Me No Own HunterxHunter
Ghostly Friends
Picture in the Hall
Gon was lazily doodling on the piece of paper he was taking notes on, not really paying attention to the teacher as he tried to conceal a yawn once more so he didn't draw attention to himself. He didn't get much sleep the night before because of a thunder storm that kept him up half the night because a tree just had to be right next to his window and the wind just had to blow the tree to hit his window loud and repeatedly. Gon only had the chance to sleep when the storm started to calm down and the loud whacks on his window were reduced to little taps and then to nothing. But that just left him at least three hours of sleep which wasn't enough especially since he slept in late and was forced in using the little energy he had in running to school leaving him little to no energy.
Gon was too out of it that he didn't notice that the lunch bell had already rung and he was left alone sitting in his desk in the middle of the room still lazily doodling something that kinda resembled a cross of a dodo bird and dolphin, but in Gon's mind it was supposed to be a kitten.
He only noticed that he was alone in the room when something pushed him out of his seat, jarring him from his half-asleep thoughts. Gon stared wide eyed at Killua who stood on the other side of his desk with his newly cleaned skateboard held in one hand and his other being placed back within the confines of his pocket. His bright blue eyes were slightly narrowed as he stared into Gon's shocked honey eyes, lips tugging downward in a frown.
"You didn't come yesterday." he stated in a voice that held irritation and if you listened closely, deep disappointment. Gon blinked owlishly before he became wide awake and stood up pointing at Killua angrily.
"What are you doing here? You know what happens when you're away from your house too long!" he shouted at the other who just shrugged nonchalantly and sat on top of the wooden desk behind him, setting his skateboard propped up against another empty desk.
"You didn't answer my question." he stated unhappily. Gon let his hand fall to the side as he scowled at Killua, knowing that if he didn't answer his question then Killua would never answer his.
"Aunt Mito had some guest over yesterday and needed my help in getting the house set up in time for their arrival." he explained as he tapped his foot impatiently. "Now it's your turn, what are you doing here? You're straining yourself from just being here!" Gon said with worry as he crossed his arms. Killua shrugged, a slight smile gracing his features.
"I got bored and since you didn't come yesterday, I didn't know if you would come today so I decided to come and find you." he answered. "Did you know how many classrooms I had to check until I finally found you brain dead here? Took me like two hours just to find you!" Killua shouted, ruffling his hair to show how frustrated he was. Gon sighed and shook his head, frowning as he glared at Killua, more in worry than anger.
"I promise I'll visit you after school Killua, but now you have to go! What if someone sees you? Your face is well known around here since there's always a play going on around Halloween time to show the life of your family and how you died and the story of your 'evil deeds' as a ghost." Gon said. Rather than being mad at this like Gon had expected him to be, Killua grinned ear to ear at hearing this, seemingly like a child on candy.
"Really? I have to see it sometime!" he said as he leaned back a little, a look of wonder in his blue eyes.
"Killua! I'm serious! What if someone sees you! It'll start a huge commotion!" Gon whined, pouting.
"Geez, Gon, stop being a worry wart will you?" Killua teased. "And no one will be able to notice me unless I do something that causes me to be notice. Like if I walk into someone really hard or throw a desk, anything like that." he explained casually, kicking his legs back and forth in the air as he took his hands out from his pockets and placed them behind him so he could lean on them. "And If I was noticed I would use that to my advantage and scare as many people as I could." he said with an evil glint in his blue eyes. Gon sighed as he sweetdropped as the feeling of giving up washed over his tired form, slumping in his chair and burying his head in his folded hands.
"Can't you just go home though?" he asked tiredly. "If you've been away for two hours already it must be straining you pretty hard now." he commented as he poked one of his large honey-like eyes out of his folded arms to look up at Killua who had his eyes closed and was peacefully kicking his feet back and forth.
"About that, I can't. There are people there that are moving stuff out the house and relocating my grave as we speak." he told Gon as if they were discussing the weather. Gon's eyes shot wide open as he slammed his hands down on the desk making it and the chair wobble as he stood up in surprise.
"What?!" he screeched only to get quieted by an annoyed Killua.
"Can you scream any louder?" he asked sarcastically. "And I said there are people at my house getting ready to do something, I don't know." he said, eyeing Gon up and down. Gon bit his lip, as he looked down at his hands that were now forming a fist on the desk top. He couldn't believe it. He knew that they were planning to demolish Killua's house, but he didn't know that they were planning to do it this soon! And he felt guilty that he still didn't have the guts to tell Killua this, not knowing how the ghost kid would take it.
"Killua, we need to find Leorio and Kurapika now!" Gon ordered at a slightly surprised Killua who raised an eyebrow at him.
"Why?"
"I'll tell you later! Just get them and I'll meet you in the football field!" Gon shouted as he grabbed his bag and practically flew out of the empty classroom.
Killua sighed as he watched Gon's back disappear before he hopped off the desk and grabbed his skateboard, walking out of the classroom before he hopped on and started to skate to where he knew the other two were since he saw them as he passed the lunch room not too long ago.
As he skated through the empty halls dodging some students that weren't in their classrooms or eating lunch, all Killua could think was about how Gon reacted to the news he gave him. He didn't really mind the fact that people were taking stuff out and relocating his grave since all he did was look out of the window's attic so it didn't bother him all too much. At first he even started to mess with the people who were already afraid as it was for being in the house and made them even more terrified and hurry to get their work finished so they didn't have to stay too long in the house. All he did was knock the stuff in their hands down, break a vase, topple a picture down, and throw a ball down the stairs, at some people, and started to throw it against the wall in boredom. But soon he got bored with messing with the people and decided to see his old school which he also knew was the school Gon was attending. He was at first surprised by how it had grown larger from the last time he had seen it and how it looked way newer than it used to, but he guessed that they had to keep it looking nice as the years went by since that was the only school they had in the town and it held all grades. Elementary, middle school, and high school.
Killua shook his head as he saw that he was getting side tracked, getting off his skateboard and jogging down the steps to reach the first floor where he saw the lunch room earlier.
He was about to step on his skateboard again when out of the corner of his eye he saw a picture in the display case that held trophies and other such stuff. Killua walked closer to stare at the largest picture in the case surprised to see that it was him. It was one of the pictures his mother was able to get of him smiling happily at the camera a week before his death. He was looking a little pass the camera and his smile was a little wider than normal showing large white teeth. He was holding a sucker in one hand while he sat on a bright yellow swing that was once tied to a tree in his backyard but had been blown off some time years ago. A golden plaque on the picture frame read:
'In Memory of Killua E. Zoldyck
1971-1983'
Beside the photo was a tiny trophy he had won in the school's talent show when his mother forced him to sing in and got first place. Killua looked at the photo and trophy a little longer as a feeling of unhappiness and something else weighed down on his nonexistent heart before he set his skateboard on the ground shaking his head as he sped off to the lunch room with a tiny glance behind him and at the picture.
It wasn't much longer till Gon, Kurapika, Leorio, and Killua were sitting under the bleachers in the football field, crossed legged and all staring at Gon with equal looks of confusion.
"So, why did you drag us away from lunch?" Leorio asked with a minor hint of irritation in his voice. Gon chewed on the inside of his cheek, squaring his shoulders as he looked at his friends.
"First, Killua, I need to tell you something." he told the boy who had been spacing out, jarring him from his thoughts as he gave him his attention. "I should've told you this earlier, but it looks like I have to tell you now since it has started." Gon said as he looked down at his lap with a troubled gaze.
"What has started?" Killua asked as he raised an eyebrow at Gon.
"Well, the city has decided to demolish your house and that's the reason why they're relocating your grave and all." Gon explained, earning loud shouts of surprise from the two older students but they were left ignored as Gon closed his eyes tightly waiting for an outburst from the ghost.
"Hm? Is that all?" Killua asked casually, almost in boredom. Gon's eyes snapped opened as he stared at the kid in front of him that looked at him through half lidded eyes, not one ounce of worry or anger within the bright blue depths which confused him so. Why wasn't Killua worried? Or mad?
"Don't you understand what this could mean?" Kurapika cut in when he noticed that Gon was too surprised to speak. Killua shook his head for Kurapika to continue. "This means that you could possibly disappear… forever." Kurapika tried to sound threatening to get the point across but Killua just looked at him with a bored expression.
"So?" he asked with a shrug.
"So?!" Gon shouted, finally able to speak. "Don't you care if you disappear? You won't be here again! You'll be gone Killua!" he shouted. All Killua did to this was sigh and look at them with a look of seriousness.
"You don't know if I will disappear or not and I don't really care if I do or don't." He raised a hand when both Kurapika and Gon looked ready to jump in, silencing them. "And before you say anything, let me explain to you. I've been sitting away in that house as it slowly rots for thirty years alone with nothing to do but sleep and look out a dusty ol' window in the attic. Everything in that house is a memory from when I was alive and a memory of my family abandoning me. Right now my little brother Kalluto is probably somewhere in his late thirties or early forties while I'm stuck being twelve, forever. And then there's the thing of that house getting demolished or not and I'm still here. Gon and the two of you will soon grow up and forget about me and there's not a single thing I can do to change that. Then you will die and most probably not come back as a ghost so that leaves me all alone in the house or whatever is left of it as I watch the world keep changing around me, forever twelve." Killua explained. "So I wouldn't mind if I were to disappear because I don't want you to start forgetting about me." He smiled softly as if he was trying to lighten the mood for the other three, but he failed miserably and he knew it so instead he stood up and dusted off his shorts, grabbing his skateboard in the process.
The three sitting around him felt their hearts sink in their chest as they realized what Killua said was right. Even if they didn't forget him they would soon die and he would be left alone once more, waiting until the end of time where he could finally be set free. But before they were able to say anything yet again, Killua smiled a little. "But I don't care either way. And I know Gon has some type of idea in that head of his to keep that house standing, so do as you please. I've now stayed too long and have to go, so bye." Killua said, disappearing along with his skateboard.
Kurapika, Leorio, and Gon were left staring at the spot he once occupied with different emotions flashing across their faces. What were they going to do?
