Ghostly Friends

Chaos in its Finest

Gon was lying on his bed that night staring at the dark ceiling above him. He had been staring at it ever since he had pulled the covers over him which was at least three hours ago and hasn't looked away since. His mind was too busy thinking about what Killua said before.

"You don't know if I will disappear or not and I don't really care if I do or don't. And before you say anything, let me explain to you. I've been sitting away in that house as it slowly rots for thirty years alone with nothing to do but sleep and look out a dusty ol' window in the attic. Everything in that house is a memory from when I was alive and a memory of my family abandoning me. Right now my little brother Kalluto is probably somewhere in his late thirties or early forties while I'm stuck being twelve, forever. And then there's the thing of that house getting demolished or not and I'm still here. Gon and the two of you will soon grow up and forget about me and there's not a single thing I can do to change that. Then you will die and most probably not come back as a ghost so that leaves me all alone in the house or whatever is left of it as I watch the world keep changing around me, forever twelve. So I wouldn't mind if I were to disappear because I don't want you to start forgetting about me."

He hugged the blankets close to him as the words echoed in his hand, turning to his side to stare at the wall on the other side of the room, seeing the outlines of his dirty clothes pile that sat there silently in the dark.

Gon knew that Killua was right but… but he didn't want to let him go. He was far too attached to the white haired ghost to just let him disappear while his life went on normally. He just couldn't and thinking about it made his heart ache considerably as he clenched his blankets closer to his chest.

He wouldn't be alone if Killua were to disappear, he still had Leorio, Kurapika, and Aunt Mito but they were nothing like his best friend. They were older and far more mature than he was while Killua was his age and less mature. Then there was that thought that shouted at the back of his mind that Gon would soon grow up and become mature while Killua stayed the same. He couldn't change that, he knew he couldn't.

He let out a sad sigh, his shoulders slumping as a memory from earlier that day crossed his mind. It was after Killua had just left and he was discussing how to keep the house standing with Leorio and Kurapika.

"I think we should leave it alone." Kurapika suddenly cut into Gon's rant about his many ideas. His voice died in his throat as he looked at Kurapika in surprise, eyes widened.

"W-what?" he choked out, hoping to God that he was imagining what the blond had said. Kurapika glance quickly over at Leorio, straightening his back as he smoothed out the ruffles on his shirt, then turned back to Gon with an almost nervous look in his eyes.

"You heard what Killua said, time for us will move on normally, while time stands still for him and there's nothing we can do to change that. He will stay a kid with the maturity of one and we will soon grow to be adults." he paused, searching Gon's eyes for some type of understanding in the honey depths. "And it's just like the saying Gon, if you love somebody, let them go, and if they don't come back then they were never yours to begin with. That's what we have to do with Killua, let him go." His voice was soft and soothing as if he was trying to reason with a Kindergartener.

"L-Leorio?" Gon tried, looking to his other friend as if asking for help, but all he did was look down as he started to plunk the green grass from the earth feeling awkward. Gon tried again calling his name, but he refused to say anything to help him, leaving Gon alone and helpless as he turned back to Kurapika with an unbelieving gaze. Suddenly the disbelief and helplessness left him as red hot fury washed over him. "Fine!" he shouted standing up with his fist balled at his sides. "If you won't help me then I'll do it alone!" He gave them one last look before he ran off.

His cheeks flushed red in slight embarrassment at the memory, hugging his blankets to his chin. Once he had cooled down enough to think, he felt embarrassed by his actions and he had absolutely no idea how he was going to face them at lunch the next day.

With those trouble thoughts plaguing his mind, he fell into a fitful slumber.

Gon managed to go through the school day without meeting Kurapika and Leorio, finding a secluded place to eat his lunch and dodging them in the hallways during passing period. And right now he was on his way to go meet Killua to see how he was and make sure he wasn't going to make any unannounced visits to the forest.

That was before he was suddenly ambushed by the two teens he was avoiding that day. Before Gon could do anything or even prepare himself, Leorio had jumped out from behind a bush and grabbed ahold of his arms and placed them behind his back so he was unable to go anywhere while Kurapika calmly walked in front of him with his arms crossed and eyes narrowed as if he was a mother prepared to give her child a good scolding from eating a cookie from the cookie jar before dinner. And Gon felt like he did just that, so he tried to make himself smaller than what he seemed.

"Why were you avoiding us all day?" Kurapika asked dangerously as he tapped his toe in impatience, his glare sending chills up and down Gon's spine.

"U-um…" he stuttered, looking down at his shoes so he didn't have to look at the blonde's intimidating look. "I-I wasn't a-avoiding you…" he tried though he knew his efforts held no success rate since the lie was easily detected in his voice. Let's just say Gon isn't the greatest liar that graced this world.

"Gon, I hear it in your voice so don't even try to lie to me." the blond warned, his glare hardening.

"Geez kid, are you that mad at us that you have to avoid us all day?" Leorio's voice came from behind him. Gon heard the hurt that the older teen tried to hide from him and suddenly felt terrible. He didn't mean to hurt them, he just… he… he didn't want to face them because of his own selfish reason.

"I know I'm such a terrible friend, but I'm sorry!" he cried looking up at Kurapika with puppy dog eyes. Kurapika sighed and closed his eyes, shaking his head softly from side to side while Leorio let him go and went to stand beside his classmate.

"If you're sorry then why didn't you try to talk to us in the first place Gon?" Leorio asked as he crossed his arms over his chest. Gon shuffled his feet, looking down once more as he felt his cheeks flush red.

"I-I just felt embarrassed from my outburst yesterday and didn't know how to face you…" he mumbled, his friends having to strain their ears to hear him.

"Is that it?" Kurapika asked in a surprisingly light tone. Gon looked up in disbelief. He was ready to hear the lector he was so sure Kurapika was going to give him so he was not prepared to hear the light tone.

"Uh… yeah?" Gon asked, unsure of himself. Kurapika smiled while Leorio smirked, amusement shining in both of their eyes.

"Well, if that's your real reason then I guess we'll let it slide just this once." Leorio teased, patting his younger friend's shoulder reassuringly. "But if it happens again, I am positive that Kurapika will give you his lector that he has been practicing since lunch." he whispered in his ear, making Gon shiver in fear. He hated the blonde's lectors just as much as he hated English class.

"Shall we go see Killua?" suggested the blond, bringing Gon out from his nightmares of past lectors he had given him. "I think he has been waiting long enough for us to arrive." he smiled down at Gon as he turned around walking away with Leorio by his side. It took Gon a minute for his brain to click into what his friend said before he was running to catch up, the earlier conversation forgotten at the prospect of meeting his best friend.

When they reached Killua's house, they were surprised to see that Killua was out in the front yard messing with the people trying to take the stuff out of his house by tripping them, throwing balls at the back of their heads, and making one of their trucks roll down the street, doing all of this while being unseen by the people intruding on his property. The white haired ghost was far into his game of messing with the people to see Kurapika, Leorio, and Gon already near his house to stop.

"The truck! This is the tenth time today that it has gone out of park!" one man shouted as he ran after the truck that started to slowly roll down the street, yelling for two kids to get out of the way so they didn't get hurt. One worker that was holding an end table Gon was used to seeing in the living room looked at his friend who held a box filled with books.

"Think it's the Zoldyck kid?" he asked with a tint of fear in his voice. His friend rolled his eyes in slight annoyance at this as he place the box of books on the stationary truck, pushing it till it reached the back.

"This whole town is stupid." he muttered loud enough for the three to hear at the end of the neighboring house. He looked up at his friend that gave the house behind him a fearful look, hands on his hips. "There are no such things as ghost, so put on your man skin and hurry up with that table." he ordered only to be pushed by the unseen Killua face first into dog poop. His friend had to stifle his laughter so he didn't drop the table he was holding, his friend glaring up at him. "Shut u—" he was unable to finish his sentence as Killua walked over the back of his head sending him back down in dog poop, the guy with the end table having to put it down as he was now on the ground clenching his stomach as he laughed hard and loud, tears streaming down his face. Killua looked behind him and snickered as the guy with dog poop on his face started chasing his friend around cursing him and telling him where he should go.

Meanwhile, the three watching this couldn't help but sweatdrop at the scene Killua had created, their attention turning to a sudden shout of complete horror down the street where the first truck had ran into a parked car, the owner running out of their house and screaming curses at them.

"How long do you think they'll last?" Leorio asked when they turned their attention back on Killua who had tripped the man with dog poop on his face, making him fall into mud this time.

"I wouldn't give it a week." Kurapika said truthfully. The other two nodded their heads in sync.

"Yeah," they said just as Killua spotted them and waved at them rather joyfully which was odd to see on him.

"Wanna join?" he asked happily. He had somehow found a bucket with pillow feathers inside and decided that the greatest use for them at that moment was to dump them all on the mud and poop covered guy who screamed in frustration and anger.

"He does know that unlike him people can see us?" Kurapika asked no one in particular. Gon shook his head, wondering what on earth gave his friend the idea to do this.

"I don't think he does…" he commented just as the guy now covered in feathers stood up angrily and began to march away.

"I quite!" his shouted along with Killua's laughter and both of the neighbor's and other worker's screams echoed the neighborhood.

It was complete chaos and the three knew that there was nothing they could do to stop it. Killua was on a roll.
