Lucy/Molly
Prompt: It's Gone
It's Gone
June 12, 2014
"It's gone, it's gone, it's gone!"
Lucy barely paid any attention to her little sister as she sat at her desk, scrawling a letter to Charlotte. Her hand scurried across the page hurriedly, trying to keep up with her rapidly whirling mind. She was hoping to organise a sleepover sometime in the next week, as Daddy had allowed her one guest over the holidays, and she had much better things to do than to help Molly find yet another thing she had lost.
"Lucy!" A streak of red hair flew down the stairs and before Lucy had time to scold her sister for making so much noise, Molly's freckled face was just inches from her own. Lucy scowled and pulled back as Molly blinked up at her with large, brown eyes.
"What is it, Molly?" she asked irritably. "Can't you see I'm busy?"
"I can't find my stethoscope!" Molly wailed, tears pooling in the corners of her eyes.
"You're what?"
"My stethoscope!" she insisted, clasping her hands together for extra emphasis. "The one that Granddad got me for my birthday."
Lucy rolled her eyes and returned to her letter. "Why in Merlin's name would you want to play with that silly Muggle thing for?"
Even with her head facing down, she could feel her little sister pouting at her with her arms crossed. And sure enough, as she turned around, Molly was in that exact position.
"Just because the Muggles use it, doesn't mean it's silly, Lucy," she declared firmly. "And I'm playing Healers with Destiny, and Priscilla needs to go to the hospital. Please, Lucy! Please help me find it! You're so good at finding things that I've lost."
At this, Lucy couldn't help but smirk. "That's because you're terrible at looking properly." She sighed in defeat and rose from her seat. "Alright, I'll help you find it."
After scouring the house for the most part of ten minutes, Lucy finally found Molly's stethoscope, hidden down the back of the sofa. She retrieved it with a shake of her head and handed it to her gleeful sister, who bounced up and down happily, causing her red pigtails to swish around her face.
"Thank you, Lucy!" she cried, clutching the stethoscope to her chest. Her euphoria warmed Lucy's heart and she smiled kindly at down at her.
"Make sure you put things away once you've finished with them," Lucy warned her. "Then they won't go missing."
Molly nodded and flung her arms around her sister's waist, pulling her into a crushing hug. Lucy patted Molly's head gently.
"Are you sure you don't want to join us?" Molly asked. "Destiny wouldn't mind. You'd probably be a better patient than Priscilla anyway. She doesn't stay still long enough."
"I'm too old to play pretend, Moll," Lucy told her.
Molly frowned, looking a little crestfallen. "Oh, okay. Well, have fun doing... grown up things."
She headed slowly back upstairs and Lucy watched her go reluctantly. A part of her felt bad. She wished that she could show more affection towards her sister like Victoire with Dominique. But she wasn't like Victoire – overflowing with love and kindness even when Dom was acting like a brat. She was Lucy, and some things would never change.
With a sigh, she headed back to her desk and sat down, suddenly unable to find motivation to talk to anyone, even Charlotte. So she picked up a book, tucked her feet up and slouched in her chair for several hours.
A/N: Sorry for taking so long to update! I've been so busy with final exams and I decided to have a bit of a break from FF so I could concentrate. But, I suddenly had inspiration to write this, so it's done. Hope you enjoy it!
Some things I must point out.
1. Destiny is the daughter of Kingsley Shacklebolt and Hestia Jones: Destiny Maria Shacklebolt. She is a year older than Molly, and the two of them became friends because Percy and Kingsley work together.
2. Priscilla is Molly's cat. She is white with grey paws, and Molly enjoys using her as a patient when she plays 'Healers'. Molly's dream is to become a Healer in the future, which is something she wanted when she was a kid. Arthur gave her a stethoscope for her eighth birthday, because they both love Muggle things and he knew how much she wanted to be a Healer.
3. Lucy is a good sister, but she's not a very affectionate person, and finds it difficult to express emotion. Whereas Molly is a bundle of energy and happiness. They are very different, but they still have a good relationship, in their own way.
Ages: Lucy (12), Molly (8).
Please drop in a review on your way out! :) xx
