Lucy/Roxanne

Prompt: Wait for me

Wait For Me

July 20, 2025

Lucy Eleanor Weasley was not the kind of girl who got caught up in the typical female obsession with finding love. As far as she was concerned, her intelligence was all she needed in her life to be successful and that was that. Unlike a lot of young women her age, Lucy had an astonishing amount of self-assurance and never wanted to change who she was for anyone. That was, however, until she was sitting alone at Lily's wedding with nothing but a glass of elf-made wine to keep her company.

A large mass of people were dancing and swaying happily along to the beautiful voice of Roxanne. Lily and Lysander were in the centre, wrapped up in each other as though there was no-one else around them. The sight of them looking so happy made Lucy smile sadly. A part of her that she never knew existed, felt a little jealous as she watched them. For the first time in her life, she wished that she was dancing in someone's arms, and they were looking at her with the same intensity that Lysander was giving Lily. She took another sip of her wine and drew her eyes away from the newlyweds, where they fell on Victoire instead.

Her beautiful, eldest cousin was laughing heartily, bouncing six-month old Violet on her knee as she watched Teddy twirl Molly around. There was a wicked grin on his face, and every so often, he would glance over at his wife, and the adoration in his eyes was almost too overwhelming for Lucy. It suddenly occurred to her that she was the only one of her girl cousins without a partner; apart from Roxanne. The realisation made her a little upset. It was common knowledge that Lucy was the plainest of all of her cousins. If not blessed with Veela genes like Victoire, then they were naturally beautiful like Roxanne and Lily. Lucy had never paid any mind to it; she was the smartest Weasley grandchild and to her, that was far better than being the prettiest. But sitting alone at her youngest cousin's wedding, watching her beautiful cousins dance and smile and laugh with their lovers made her feel horribly alone.

After Roxanne finished her last song, she hopped off the stage and sat beside Lucy. The older girl barely noticed her as she sipped her wine and stared up at the night sky.

"How come you're sitting by yourself, Luce?" Roxanne asked, raising her eyebrows.

Lucy shrugged. "Dancing is not really my thing," she retorted sharply.

Roxanne pouted and crossed her arms. Her black hair bounced around her chin in a tangle of smooth silky curls, and her dark eyes shone bright in the moonlight. She was beautiful, Lucy noticed bitterly, just like all of her cousins.

"Don't be a such a stick in the mud!" Roxanne cried, poking her cousin in the shoulder. "It's a wedding. Everyone dances! It's tradition."

Lucy remained silent and fiddled with the hem of her light blue dress, trying to annoy her impertinent cousin. But Roxanne was persistent.

"You think I don't know why you're sitting here, all alone?" she tested. "I might not be as smart as you, Lucy, but I'm not stupid."

Lucy frowned and glared up at Roxanne, who glared right back at her.

"There's no point wallowing in self-pity because you're alone, Lucy, so snap out of it. You're only making it worse for yourself."

Roxanne stood up and smoothed down her purple dress, before turning back to Lucy once more. "If you want to sit by yourself and sulk, then all you'll end up being is alone. I, on the other hand, am going to enjoy myself and dance until my feet fall off."

With a twirl, Roxanne stormed back into the crowd, where the band were beginning to play a more livelier tune. Her cousin's sharp words echoed in her ear for a few moments. Roxanne was right. Sulking was only making her feel worse. Suddenly determined, she stood up, quickly finished her wine and hurried after her cousin.

"Roxie, wait for me!" she called.

Roxanne turned around and beamed at Lucy, taking each of her hands. They began to dance, completely oblivious to all the other couples in the room, and all of Lucy's insecurities were suddenly gone.

A/N: So, everyone's got insecurities. This is Lucy's. I've been feeling a bit like Lucy lately; alone, because I am single, but then I realised that I have amazing friends and if I stop moping around and actually just have fun, then I won't feel alone at all. So, I guess this is what brought about this chapter. I hope you enjoyed it.

Ages: Lucy (23), Roxanne (18)
