Authors Note: Why do I want to start all these thing with "Well hello ladies..."? huh? Huh? HUH? Meh, I don't know. This Chapter is kind of the beginning of the beginning of the end of this story which is still really the beginning so err... Action packed fun will explode out of nowhere pretty soon, I'm guessing, I don't really know anything about my own story so lets just go with it.
A few questions raised in the reviews;
1. Will this be a Zammie story? You all seem to be asking it and I'm going to be honest right here and say I don't get why people ship it so much. But I also believe it is physically impossible to write anything remotely related to Gallagher Girls and have it not have at least a shred of Zammie. So yes, this will be a story in which Zammie will exist in a slightly odd reincarnation, but I've said it before and I can't quiet promise this will be a happily ever after sunshine kick ass Zammie baby, Zammie story but who knows? you'll just have to read and find out! ;D
2. I know you all want me to update quicker, and believe me so do I, and I'm planning on getting heaps ahead of whatever I get loaded. One of the main reasons I haven't been updating is because of school and I'm starting summer holidays soon, hence my sudden reappearance, but a lot of it was also to do with laziness and writers block. I'll try to update every week on a wednesday or a Sunday (sometimes both) This chapter was meant to be up sooner but my laptop has been updating since like Tuesday so I couldn't ;)
Disclaimer: ...Still don't own Gallagher Girls :|...
Dedication: To my friend who ships Townsend and Cammie...you poor, demented soul.
Chapter. 13 - Texts.
"I was wondering when you'd get here." Cam said calmly with absolutely no venom in her voice at all as the tall broad British man obscured the corner of her vision. She smiled pleasantly but didn't turn to face him. She reckoned he didn't deserve the satisfaction of realising the exact way in which he had got her here had gotten to her. Martin allied with him, she thought and tried not to let the anger cross her face. Even if he didn't deserve the satisfaction, it didn't mean Cameron had to look at him at all.
"You seemed to have quiet a stream of visitors, I wouldn't want to deprive you of annoyance to the point of insanity." his deep voice was the most ridiculous thing she had ever heard, everything about him was stupid, and he was more of a douche than Zach was. Cam didn't think much into it, only noted without interest that it added to her Good looks equals bad people theory.
"That explains why you're here then." Cam replied calmly.
"Oh no I'm just here to keep watch, I've been-" He started but Cam finished for him, not in the mood for a patronising explanation.
"guarding outside all the time, and now you can finally watch me sleep and shit, yeah I get it you're a little Circle nut case." This time she did let the venom into her voice and the man laughed.
"That would be you." He corrected, Oh the fun and jokes they share together, Cam just rolled her eyes at the stupidity that buzzed off of him.
"Oh, Of course, I didn't think." Cameron's voice was careful and measured, she stared forward with features that weren't too fierce and an expression that was in no way interested.
"Oh, this is great," he said kneeling down by the bars and peering in like he was a kid at a zoo, a genuinely happy Townsend is perhaps the most terrifying thing Cammie had sat a foot and half away from, and yet she sat completely solidly without the slightest hint she had even noticed the change in him. "completely betrayed by the one person who summed up your faith in the Circle and now you can see just how blind it was. You trusted him more than Catherine, huh? Can't say I blame you, then again I can't see why you'd have any faith in her at all... Bloody bitch."
"SHUT UP!" She shot her head in his direction and yelled it before she could stop herself, and she spat at the smug expression that sat before her but did nothing to distinguish it. For some reason she could only focus a dwindle of her anger on Townsend, because he had a perfectly valid point, Martin had betrayed her, such an asshole, she thought, such an asshole. He wasn't any better than the British spy in front of her, he wasn't any better than Solomon or Zach or her Parents. All of them were the same. She had to be careful though, Cam reminded herself, if she carried on at this rate she'd be too pissed off at Martin to direct any hate at her family. She reinforced her glare at Townsend.
"Like I said, this is what pretty little Circle boys do to you, you're better of not trusting anyone in this business." He said gruffly and the smile was gone as quickly as it had erupted.
"And then become too paranoid to get the job done." Cam retorted calmly and the mans eyes appeared to darken.
"You sounded just like your father then...and your Aunt" He didn't say it as a complement, which hardly made the words more tolerable but it was good a try as any, not that he was trying of course which is exactly why a coil of fresh anger sprang out in her stomach.
"I am nothing like my father." Cameron spat.
"You're just like him, and I don't just mean in looks, you just haven't accepted it. But when you do I won't like you any more. If you think I need to trust the people on my own side I suppose that makes sense to most people, but I will never trust anyone from the Circle of Cavan." Cammie studied him carefully, his rant about trust had been uninteresting and he just came across as even more stupid for accusing her of being like her father, so she had time to calm down and focus on trying to undo whatever godforsaken pathetic locks Townsend covered everything about him with.
"So tell me," She asked when she got past the first fact about him that seemed to be a distraction, of that he's always wearing a bloody suit, like what's up with that? She'd only ever seen him in a suit! It's spring for Gods sake why does he even need to wear a suit, she dreaded to imagine what he did when found himself on a beach, what, has he got a waterproof one for swimming?! And what's with the...She had stopped herself before the thoughts could divert further. "What was it a pretty little Circle boy did to you?"
"What's that supposed to mean?" He demanded standing up again and Cameron let a smile creep onto her face as she relished stumping a man who had the reputation of unstumpable, He was probably a terrific rounders player, Cam thought absent mindedly but then realised diverting trains of thought to the ridiculous was what this man specialised in, not being unstumpable.
"Nobody gets that pissed off with us unless it's personal, Nobody, what did we do to you?" If he was going to answer that question Cammie never got to hear it, because just then bickering voices came from past the door that was always annoyingly out of sight for Cammie. It was a strain to make out the words, but she managed as they got closer.
"We wouldn't be in the situation if it wasn't for you!" A female voice snapped as if in a high pitched whisper but it was clear this was just subdued yelling.
"Actually, if it wasn't for the Circle this would never have even been an issue, but I'm willing to let that one drop because, yes, this particular branch of its faults is all mine." A male replied calmly.
"Can you not just disagree?!" The female demanded again.
"No, you're right, why would you want me to disagree?" The man asked calmly again and this time it was clearer when they spoke again, as if they had gotten closer.
"You are impossible to have an argument with!" complained the woman. "You know, most women actually want their husbands to think they're always right!"
"Then I guess you're just one of the lucky ones ,okay, honey." The man sighed sounding exhausted, which was the most emotion he had shown in the conversation, and when The Solomons came into view Cam decided it was the most emotion Joe had shown since she first came here, she just couldn't decided how that registered in her opinion of him.
"Trouble in paradise?" Townsend questioned with mock worry as he leant against the wall with one shoulder and his hands stuffed in his pockets.
"Don't be a prat Townsend." Abby snapped in reply, it was more obvious she was tired, because her face was normally more radiant, whereas Mr. Solomons always seemed to remain fairly expressionless, his looks making all that completely irrelevant as you assumed he glowed when in reality he didn't, he was nothing but broken. Pathetic, Cammie thought disappointadly once more. Abby looked at her niece sitting on the floor of the cell, and Cam was repulsed by how convincing the fake sadness was and tried not to cringe. This was enough to make anyone sick. "Although I guess it's too late for that." Abby finished.
"Ouch, I'm never going to get over hearing that." Townsend said in a stock demeaning voice that made even Cammie want to punch him.
"Let her out." Abby demanded as if it was impossible to even consider thinking of another option. Townsend looked as if there was something to this situation that the likes of Abby Solomon could never hope to understand. Abby looked like she wanted to punch him.
"What would you do if I were to say I may have accidentally on purpose slipped it into my breakfast this morning." His expression didn't change and the tone in his voice was barely taunting. Cameron could have taught him a thing or two about being an ass, but he seemed to have perfected his own brand of it.
"Don't lie Eddy, let her out." Joe Solomons voice could be mistaken for just as bored as the Englishman's had been, but there was certain emotion stapled to it as if he took his feelings out of a filling cabinet and processed them out against people.
"Did you just call me Eddy?" Townsend demanded, looking appalled but then he shook his head as if shaking of an irrelevant topic bag that had been tied over his head. "What makes you think I was lying anyway?"
"You came over here, purely so you could be part of this case, cutting short a trip that had started in good old Britannia before travelling all the way across Europe and ending up in the Solomon Islands, which I have to say is a lousy way of getting me to like you; it's been ten years Ed, I know you're obsessed with me. Let it go," His tone was mocking and sarcastic, in such a way Cameron noted that even Abby was surprised by it. Townsend however just went red with rage and glared at him as the American Agent carried on, "You were close to finishing while you were over there but rushed back to the states purely so you could be part of a chase you are certain centres around you. You would not throw away any strings you had at the chance to destroy the circle by swallowing a freaking key that we're going to need...That and you keep your thumbs shockingly still when you lie." It occurred to Cam that this was the most she had heard Solomon speak...ever. He didn't even go on this much in classes. It seemed Edward Townsend was the type of man even someone like Joe Solomon couldn't resist giving a good talking to when he needed it.
"One; well bloody done try not to take everything so seriously next time Joey." Solomon rolled his eyes at that. "Two; I'm still not giving you the key. Three; my thumbs don't stay still when I'm lying." He insisted and despite the possibility of excepting Solomon was right she looked down at his thumbs to see if they moved. They didn't. "And Four; I am insulted that you of all people would waste a joke on something so ridiculous as me wanting your approval." He looked repelled as he steppe forward and Cammie watched the two men stare at each other with as much hate as Cam had towards the two of them together. "You are an unreliable, disgusting, no good bastard who is no better than her." He jabbed his finger in Cameron's direction. Thus led the day they all saw Abigail Solomon kick Edward Townsend in the balls.
"That is my husband and niece you are talking about!" She yelled viciously as the pompous British man failed at not cowering. "I still belive they're good people, okay?! Who hasn't made mistakes you complete asshole!" Mr. Solomon starred slightly wide eyed at his wife and she struck a hit on the other mans head, and despite everything Cam couldn't help feel a little proud of her Aunt. Not that anything she said made sense of course. Why did she care what side Cammie was on? The Circle were the good people, what did people like Abby care who thought what about who and what despising and distant family members were seen as. Nobody gets that angry unless they have something to care about, she found her own words haunting her; Nobody gets that pissed off with us unless it's personal, Nobody, what did we do to you?
Before Cam could go completely insane from the twisting events and multiple points of view of every situation she had ever been in, including the ones she couldn't remember but should, from when she had first aged into double digits, A bleeping sound made Solomon grab Abby's arm without looking up from his phone, and stopping her from further kicking ass.
"Matt's just hacked the Gallagher Academy." He explained calmly typing something back into his phone as if he had just told his wife his best friend couldn't decide whether to get the pink top or blue.
"Is that even possible?" Abby demanded checking her husbands screen as if she didn't believe him, as Townsend regained himself against the wall and muttered something under his breath that sounded suspiciously like "Douchebag" disguised by a wheezy cough that might not have been all that fake, considering he was holding his ribcage rather desperately.
"For Matt? Yeah, pretty possible." Joe said raising his eyebrows as if that qualified as looking up as he continued to tap away on his screen. "Oh, You know him! he wanted Rachel, he got her; he wants chocolate? He gets it. If the desperate whim takes him to find a way to text his best friend in a place nobody's supposed to get text messages in. He will send that text." He explained and Cameron tried not to be interested in what that supposedly important text said. She would not be impressed, She chanted, I will not be impressed. The CoveOps teacher paused for a moment after tapping out what had apparently been some ridiculous essay. It couldn't have been two seconds before a second beep met the room and Solomon shoved the phone back in his pocket after barely glancing at the screen. Making Cammie pretty sure he must have only gotten a "yeah" or "K" In answer to his ramble.
"I should go." He explained without further explanation and started for the door.
"Well, I'm coming with you." Abby said as if there wasn't a doubt. Joe's expression didn't change as far as Cammie could tell, which was slightly annoying when Abby appeared to have noticed something she had missed."That or your explaining this to me Joe, I don't know how many times you could have ditched me for the Circle." He looked like he wanted to protest to what she had said, but instead he continued slightly impatiently. "I'm not ditching you for the Circle, exactly. I'm leaving to continue to destroy it...we could use back up actually, I'll explain in the car." He called as he walked out the door. Abby sighed and rolled her eyes, and then hurried to keep up with him.
Cameron had leapt to her feet automatically as Solomon had spoken of destroying the Circle. Her circle. She couldn't let this happen, she examined the bars as if she hadn't already done it eighty-three times. There wasn't a way out. What if they get to Catherine?! The thought was painful enough and nagged enough to demolish any of the crazy thoughts that had taken control when Abby had kicked Townsend in the balls for her. A million names and faces shot through her mind, all the people her own parents and Aunt and Uncle would kill in cold blood. Heck, she'd even be upset if they got to Dr. Steve.
She was suddenly very aware that Townsend still stood watching her. "Well that clears it." He said so calmly Cammie wondered whether he was saying it to himself.
"What?!" Cammie snapped wanting nothing more than him to leave.
"I lied before, you really are absolutely nothing like your father, they've even made you look different." Townsend said just as calmly, it was more terrifying than when he had been happy. It was a good thing, she told herself, but when she thought about how confident Solomon had been that Morgan could do anything. How her blood father had hacked into his own school when Cam had spent months trying to figure out how to do it; she couldn't help feel a little insulted.
She was left with that thought and a desperate escape plan as Townsend followed after the Solomons and left her alone. Realising a little late that a few moments after he left, the floor had gained an inch of water that hadn't been there before. And it was rising quickly.
Well, I say. You know what I thought? I really hadn't done much with Matt yet, as with everything it seemed; Things about him would naturally become more evident in the next of this little series magoob, but even in the actual books you don't really learn anything about him. Just that he likes chocolate and he's supposed to be this really kick ass chameleon spy thing who is also - according to his bestie- extremely arrogant. But why? What was it about him that made him so awesome, I mean he did die. No offence to anyone who cared. So I just thought I'd go out of my way and toy with him as much as I liked. More toying to come! I also feel inclined to tell you I had no idea Abby was going to kick Townsend in the balls until it happened but aren't you just a little glad?
I would also like to add an explanation as to Joe Solomons odd behavior, (again! Like, that guy is wierd...) since when does he poke fun at people? Well I've always thought that although Townsend and Solomon never really "hang out" with eachother in the books there is defiantly hostility in the way they speak about eachother,in my opinion anyway, which goes far beyond the whole Circle thing (Or else why would Solomon care? Idon't know really. Again, just my perspective on it). So I plan on making a kind of Marauders=Matt and Joe, Snivelous Snape=Edward Townsend thing going on with them.
