Chapter 14

Natasha felt all of the air and life leave her body at just seeing the scene before her. She tried to find her voice but when she opened her mouth to speak no sound came out.
She felt completely still and unmoving. Everything was moving in slow motion.
It felt just like that when Tony moved forward into the room with Clint at his iron heels. Natasha finally felt herself moving forward and into the sudden cold.
The chill made her feel hopeless as she came to the steel table that held the body of a frozen Steve Rogers. The entire room was cast in a cold soft blue light that allowed them to see where the cold air was coming in. Their breath was coming out in little white puffs.
The blond captain was held down by what appeared to be incredibly powerful magnetic cuffs around his wrists, ankles, waist, torso and neck. He looked exactly the same as when be'd been found by SHIELD in the ice.
The spy knew that Steve could have escaped this. The only reason that he would be like this would be if he had still been sedated. They all know how much he hates the cold. He still had night terrors about it.
"Steve? STEVE!" Tony cried in hopes of waking the soldier. But it was to no avail. Steve was unresponsive.
"We need to get him out of here fast!" Clint stated.
"On it." Tony said as he grabbed the shackles and easily pried them off. When he got the last one off, Hulk appeared and gently scooped the soldier into his large hands.
None of them had ever seen the green giant so gentle before but they weren't too surprised that it was with Steve. The second personality of Bruce Banner was respectful to the captain. Many of the guessed it was because Steve didn't bother himself worrying about the past Bruce and the Hulk shared and that he respected both of them.
Natasha almost felt like as if someone had taken control of her body as she followed everyone out of the freezer like cell.
Rushing down the halls seemed like a big blur. So did boarding the quinjet and the take off.
They kept Steve on a stretcher and covered him with a warm blanket. Once Bruce had returned and was clad in new clothes, he had advised that they couldn't try to warm Steve up too quickly or it might do more damage.
Natasha stayed next to the stretcher, her eyes glued onto the super soldier. She wanted so much to reach over and hold onto his hand.
But she couldn't let the other know that she and Steve were starting a relationship. If it was that. Really they had only shared a kiss and a snuggle before things hit the fan.
She lightly shook her head.
Even though her heart was crying for Steve, her mind was telling her that first they had to make sure he was still alive and would be able to recover from this.
He'd survived seventy years under ice before but they weren't sure if the same miracle could happen twice.
Please, please, pull through. Natasha thought to herself. Please, Steve.
