A/N: A new chapter, just because I was so incredibly pleased with the response the last one got. Hope you like it!
Kagome's POV
oooooOooooo
Chapter-Forty-One: Incredulity
oooooOooooo
I honestly couldn't help myself.
It was so shocking, so unbelievablyridiculous and far-fetched, that I had no control over my reaction.
I laughed.
Hysterically and with total abandon, I lost myself in gales of wild mirth and all sense of propriety and decorum was forgotten. My back ached, my lungs burned, and my eyes filled with tears of hilarity, and still I could not find it within myself to stop.
My husband, Kagutsuchi?
The thought did nothing but spur on my amusement.
Vaguely, at the back of my mind, I remembered Rin, knew that she was watching, that she questioned my sanity. I could do nothing, however, to assure her. I couldn't scarcely breathe, let alone form coherent sentences.
I suddenly thought of Sesshoumaru, of what his response, his face would be like when I explained to him what happened . . .
I collapsed into giggles all over again.
"Kagome-chan?" My new friend sounded concerned. "Kagome-chan, are you quite all right?"
Wiping tears from my cheeks, I inhaled deeply to answer. "Yes," I replied, and nearly choked on the laughter still bubbling in my throat. "I am quite all right."
"Would you . . . mind explaining what you find so amusing?"
Stifling a smirk, I turned to Rin and tried to smile without dissolving into a fit. "Certainly." Gesturing for her to take a seat on the futon once again, I settled next to her and began my tale, starting with my meeting Kagutsuchi for the first time and ending with his threats, my leaving, and Sesshoumaru's retrieval of me. I purposefully omitted Sesshoumaru torturing his brother for those few days, knowing it would only upset her. Though I had only known her for less than half an hour, Rin's feelings for Kagutsuchi were clear to me, and I had no desire to bring her undue distress.
Howshe could feel anything for that monster aside from loathing, however, was beyond me.
As my story ended, Rin regarded me with obvious bewilderment. "I had no idea. I . . . I cannot begin to express how sorry I am."
I shook my head and patted her hand reassuringly. "There is no need, Rin. It is in the past now. I do wonder, though, if perhaps you could grant me a small request."
"Of course!" she proclaimed. "What is it that you need?"
I smiled, knowing that my answer would take her completely by surprise.
"A bath."
oooooOooooo
A/N: Who wants to take a guess as to what the bath is for? :) Any takers?
