Ahhh! AAAHHHHHHHHH! WE'RE ALMOST DONE! Holy shit, I never thought I'd see the day! We only have about two chapters left to go people! Cherish these last moments!
Anyway, last time: The Digitalia, due to the shock of losing their partners, were thrust into a strange memory. A memory where they saw themselves entering the Digital Core and being absorbed by the same monsters that took their friends. After traveling deeper into the core they managed to find what was holding their partners and set them free, alive and unharmed.
"Britain…? Britain, wake up!"
The British nation stirred as he felt his mind wake up. He felt like he was being woken from a deep slumber. What had happened? The last thing he remembered was Amerimon yelling out for him as he was…taken by something.
"C'mon Britain! Wake up already! Please!"
Britain took in the familiar voice calling out to him and finally managed to force his eyes open. His eyelids felt heavy and numb like the rest of his body. The lack of feeling almost caused him to panic. He tried to move and feeling gradually began to make itself known in his body. He blinked as best as he could to clear his blurry vision as his strength began to come back as well. He finally made out a familiar boy with brown wings and blue eyes as he propped himself up on his elbows.
"A-Amerimon?" he croaked.
The Digitalia's eyes suddenly filled with tears as a big smile crossed his face, "Britain!" he yelled, leaping onto his chest. Britain grunted as he was knocked back to the ground, the little Digitalia clinging to his chest for dear life. "You're okay! You're really okay!" Amerimon cried, his face buried in his damp uniform, "I'm so glad you're alive!"
Britain was silent as he managed to sit up and take in his surroundings. He noticed his fellow nations lying all around him, their respective Digitalia attempting to rouse them. He also realized that he and all the nations were soaked to the skin. Why did Amerimon and the other Digitalia look so worried? Had something happened to them?
"What's going Amerimon?" Britain asked. "And why the bloody hell am I all wet?"
"Well-"
"Romano! You're alive!" Itamon lunged at the Italian, knocking him to the ground.
Romano groaned and slowly, "Dammit, easy Itamon, my head is killing me…" he grumbled.
Amerimon looked at them, "I think we should wait until everyone wakes up first." He said.
The wait didn't take long at all. Soon enough, the rest of the nations were sluggishly coming to just before being tackled by their relieved Digitalia. Once the reunion ceased, Britain turned back to his Digitalia, "I'll ask again Amerimon, what happened?" he asked.
"You were all swallowed by those gooey things," Amerimon said softly, "We couldn't save you so we thought…we thought…"
"We thought you were dead and gone!" Prussiamon finished.
Britain placed his hand on Amerimon's shoulder; he couldn't help but feel bad seeing the young Digitalia look so distraught. He remembered feeling the exact same way back in Shadow Mountain, when Azelmon had tricked them into thinking Amerimon and all the other Digitalia were dead. He picked Amerimon up like he used to when America was a child, "I'm sorry we made you worry lad, we're fine." He reassured him.
Amerimon smiled through his tears and Britain got to his feet, still holding the young winged boy and trying to ignore his aching heart; Amerimon and America were just too similar!
All the other nations got up as well, managing to pry their happy Digitalia off of them. "So, where the hell are we now?" Romano asked.
"We've gone deeper into the Digital Core!" Itamon answered, perched on the Italian nation's shoulder. "It took us a while to find you."
"We should keep going; we're getting close." Belamon said, "We might be safer when we get to the core."
"What makes you so sure?" Austria asked. The Digitalia all hesitated and shared a look with each other. There was something in there eyes, something on their mind that they obviously didn't want to share.
"We just…have a feeling." Hungamon eventually answered for everyone.
"Well, we gonna keep moving or wait for more of those gooey things to show up?" Prussiamon asked, gesturing towards the exit, "I have a feeling the Digital Core won't be too happy that its prisoners escaped."
"Yeah, let's go." Amerimon said, urgency slightly lacing his tone. The seven children walked ahead to the exit of the tunnel before the nations ultimately decided to follow. They couldn't put their finger on it, but they could tell that something was definitely going on.
What had happened after they had been sucked up?
The group ventured out of the tunnel that led to another one. It looked just about the same as the last one they were in, only with more pods full of strange liquid decorating the walls and ceiling.
"What are these things?" China asked, looking oddly at the pods.
"No idea." Canamon answered.
"Look how small some of these are." Russia said, kneeling down to look at a pod that looked about the size of a large marble. "Wait, there's something inside." He said.
That caught everyone's attention. They looked at the small pod and sure enough, a black speck could be seen inside. "It looks like…a bug." Russia said, gazing closer at it. The bug was completely frozen, almost like it was stuck in amber.
"Boy, the Digital Core must really not like non-digital things." Prussiamon said.
The group ventured on and the further they went, they noticed more and more things appearing in the seemingly endless rows of pods. They ranged from inanimate objects, to insects, even to small animals.
"Mon dieu; is that a squirrel?" France asked.
"I would just like to know how a god damn squirrel managed to get her in the first place." Romano muttered.
"What are all these things? Are they from your world?" Japamon asked.
"That's right." China nodded.
"Maybe they all got eaten by those gooey things." Canamon suggested.
"Well, these things aren't from our world, and those monsters don't like eating digital things, it would make sense." Amerimon agreed.
Belamon's wolf ears suddenly twitched and she whirled around. Her eyes widened as she latched onto Russia's scarf, "Speaking of those monsters…"
Everyone heeded her words and turned around; sure enough, three of those goop monsters were flying towards them.
"Aw crap! They want seconds!" Prussiamon exclaimed.
"Digitalia, positions!" Amerimon yelled. The seven children sprang forward creating a line between the nations and the monsters. "These things won't hurt us, you guys go ahead!" he said.
The nations didn't need to be told twice. They ran down the tunnel leaving the Digitalia to face the monsters, unaware that their Hetavices were beginning to glow. Amerimon glanced behind him, making sure the nations were a safe distance away and faced the monsters with his friends.
"Alright, let's kick some gooey butt!" Prussiamon said, punching his palm.
Japamon nodded, "This time we'll finish them." He said with a frown.
"Then it's time to Hetavolve!" Canamon said.
The seven children closed their eyes as they were each enveloped by a beam of light.
"Will they be okay themselves?" France asked as they ran.
"Like they said, those things don't hurt them, they'll be fine!" Germany said.
"Where are we even going?" China asked.
"Someplace where those things can't get us, I don't bloody know!" Britain retorted. He glanced behind them to see seven figures slowly running behind them before stopping and launching an attack.
The nations ran through tunnel after tunnel, trying to ignore the variety of objects and animals in the pods they passed. The place was starting to feel more and more like a messed up mad scientist's lab.
After a while, a large opening made itself known in front of the nations. They burst into the room and stopped to catch their breath.
"So…where are we now?" Austria asked, wiping his brow.
Everyone looked up and their breath's caught in their throats. The area they were in was enormous and round. In the middle of the area was a right light that belonged to what looked like an enormous orb of white energy.
It was roughly fifty feet in diameter and hummed as it pulsated pure energy. No one had to say anything; this was obviously the center of the Digital World, the Digital Core. They had made it.
"So, now what?" Romano asked after a bout of silence, "We made it, like Oramon said to, so what do we do?"
"There should be something around to give us a clue." Germany said thoughtfully.
It was then that France let out an exclamation of horror. The French nations had wandered off a bit to look around and was now frozen in place.
Britain walked up to him and put a hand on his shoulder, "France, are you alright?" As he asked, he looked where France's gaze was frozen upon and he nearly choked. His green eyes grew wide and his jaw hung open in shock.
One by one, the other nations approached and had the same reaction as they took in the sight.
Meanwhile, the seven now Advanced Digitalia entered the area. "Finally, took 'em long enough to back off." Gilbamon said, shaking some goo off his gloved hand.
"I'm not that surprised; we're here." Natamon said, pointing to the giant orb. The seven Digitalia took in the sight of the Digital Core, their eyes widened in amazement.
"Holy shit…" Alfamon breathed, "We made it!"
"But…" Mattamon looked around, "Where are the nations?"
The Digitalia all froze in fear. "You don't think…" Lizamon started but Kikumon shook his head.
"No, they can't be, they must be here!"
Felimon looked around before smiling, "Don't worry, they're over there!" he said pointing. They spotted the nations, standing perfectly still and staring at something. The Digitalia ran/flew over to them.
"Hey guys, what's wro-"
The Digitalia stopped abruptly as they saw what the nations were staring at. There were seven pods before them, lined up quite neatly. These pods were much taller and bigger than the ones they had seen earlier.
The Digitalia all approached the seven pods as their contents slowly became clear. Shock slowly registered on the Digitalia's faces as well as pure unadulterated confusion.
"Wh-what the heck…?" Alfamon said slowly, "That's…that's us!"
They stared at the pods, which held seven humans.
Only the nations knew who they were.
It was their friends, the nations that had gone missing two years ago, comatose and frozen in the pods.
*plays dramatic music* The plot...such thickness...But not to worry, everything will be explained next chapter!
