Dear Renji,
pack your things right now, because you must come to soul Society immediately. And that's a command from Yamamoto-sotaicho and Nii-sama, and it should already tell you something.
You're probably wondering what happened, but no, sorry, I'm afraid you didn't become the hero you wanted to be. But first things first; let me start from the beginning.
When Ishida appeared in the middle of Seireitei yesterday, chaos ensued. No one knew what to do, and it took a lot of strength and time to stop the shinigami around from attacking the quincy. He ended up surrounded by the crowd with swords directed at him and whenever he moved, the sea of shinigami moved as well, creating a rather comical picture.
"Wait," somebody commanded as everybody moved again (Ishida suspiciously fixed his coat, you know) and we all turned to see Yamamoto-sotaicho approaching the crowd. "Let's hear what this man has to say."
Shinigami didn't lower their weapons, but took a step back, giving Ishida more space. Luckily, I managed to use this opportunity to get closer to the front and could see the whole scene better.
Yamamoto-sotaicho looked at Ishida, waiting for him to speak.
"Abarai Renji sent me here," quincy said and I'm really sorry, but the crowd jeered in that very moment.
"Ah, Abarai Renji?" Captain-Commander repeated. "I see… Well, what did he send you for?"
Ishida looked away and I bit my lip. I'm sorry again, but Yamamoto-sotaicho looked pretty uninterested.
Quincy cleared his throat and straightened up.
"We've established peace between shinigami and quincy and I would like to carry out further discussions here in Soul Society, with Gotei 13."
Silence fell all around the Senkaimon, where Ishida appeared. I was just as stunned, since I received your letter later. Even Cifer, who had been sitting quietly in his chair at the front, looked up from the book he was reading.
"AS IF I WOULD EVER SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT WILLINGLY!" Ishida suddenly shouted, making everyone even more shocked. "Don't think I don't know what day it is today! Today is the finish! He's not my master anymore!"
He then laughed like a madman and we only watched him, not sure what to do.
"I won't be humiliated anymore. I, Ishida Uryu, am a free man again!" Ishida laughed again and looked at us with a crazy glint in his eyes. "You know what? I hate you. Hahaha! And you," he pointed at Kurotsuchi-taicho, "I hate more than everyone else! Hahaha!"
With those words, quincy sent the crowd one last glare and stepped back, disappearing in the Senkaimon. Before anyone could react, Ishida was gone. Shinigami immediately flocked around the gate, as if they believed they could see him inside.
It got incredibly loud suddenly, as everyone started talking at once, confused and enraged at what Ishida did, but it all came to an end just as quickly, with a single knock of Yamamoto-sotaicho's cane. The crowd, silenced, turned to Captain-Commander.
To say he was furious would be an understatement. He was practically raging, and I could literally see the dark aura that he suddenly started emanating.
"I have not experienced such humiliation ever since I became the Captain-Commander," he hissed, gritting his teeth. I was afraid he'd break his cane, he held it so tightly. "Abarai Renji, you're going to pay for this, and the price will be high…"
I held my breath, noticing only then that it was indeed your fault. I wanted to say something, but suddenly all shinigami around me started clapping, stomping and screaming that the person responsible for this should be punished severely.
Then, while I was torn and didn't know what to do, Nii-sama emerged from the crowd and stopped right before Yamamoto-sotaicho. My brother looked calm and bowed to his captain.
"Abarai is my lieutenant and I feel partly responsible. I am deeply sorry for his irresponsible actions. Please let me, as his captain, decide on his punishment."
Yamamoto-sotaicho hesitated for a while, eager to find a penalty himself, but eventually asked, "And what would that punishment be?"
Something strange appeared in Nii-sama's eyes and I'm almost sure he smirked when he spoke, and his words carried some deep-rooted grudge that will immediately make you remember a lot of things.
"He will apologise to all shinigami," my brother said, "and then will go to the quincy he sent here and tell him loud and clear, You're so handsome, Ishida."
Everyone still had in mind how you humiliated him back in Letters, chapter 42. No one was against this personal revenge.
In the end, you're supposed to go to Ishida and then come here and apologise. What's more, Yamamoto-sotaicho decided you should do some public service here in Soul Society, for the benefit of all shinigami, so, although it won't be "in the best of circumstances", we're going to finally meet.
I'm so sorry, but… let's just work hard together to restore your image in Seireitei, okay? Just get this thing with Ishida over and come here quickly! As much as I'm sad for you and although your situation is rather difficult right now, I'm just happy I'm finally going to see you.
I missed you a lot during those three years.
Chappies, I guess for the last time,
Rukia
...and hello, I guess for the last time. Ahh, it's been long three years! I had a lot of fun writing those letters, and I kinda hope you had fun reading them, too :) Thanks a lot for reading, and there was much to read, haha.
I'm not good at finishing stuff, so... once more, thank you to everyone who happened to read this story. If you liked it, even a bit, that already makes me happy :)
And, since it's almost 1st, Happy New Year everyone :) Chappies!
