Senna's POV

I went into Korra's room early the next day, watching as she slept peacefully. Tonraq and I had stayed up most of the night waiting for her to come home, but as we knew she would, our little girl had snuck back in through the window around three in the morning. I sighed as I sat on the bed, running a hand through her hair. My husband crossed his arms over his chest, brow raised. We both had agreed that Korra's late night outing would not be tolerated, seeing as there was a masked lunatic out there abducting Benders.

My little girl mumbled something incoherent before turning on her side, facing Tonraq and I. He huffed and shook his head, sitting down next to me as he rubbed gentle circles on her back. No matter how worried we were, or how strict we had to be, we also recognized that she was a teenager and she was bound to get into some forms of trouble. But I wanted to make sure that the trouble she got into didn't scar her for life…or us.

"Korra," I whispered, shaking her lightly. Our daughter muttered something before rolling so that she was on her stomach, pulling the pillow over her head. "Korra."

"Just five more minutes," she mumbled in protest.

I smiled at this but pulled the pillow away. She groaned loudly before tiredly sitting up, rubbing her eyes as she tried to leave the world of sleep behind. Tonraq's hard demeanor coming back before I placed a hand over my child's.

"Have a nice night?" my husband asked as she stretched.

Korra froze, rubbing the back of her neck sheepishly, now aware of the reason behind the early wake up call. She sighed, twiddling her thumbs, biting her lip. We could almost hear the gears turning as she tried to come up with a plausible excuse for her late night outing.

"I – "

"The truth, Korra," Tonraq interrupted.

She leaned back against the headboard in defeat, lowering her gaze. "Bo was kidnapped two nights ago by some Equalists," she began quietly. My husband and I shared a look. "I called to tell you I was going to stay with Asami but in reality…we went out and searched for him. I saw – I saw what Amon could do. And I couldn't let that happen to Bolin. I just couldn't –"

"Do you have any idea what kind of danger you put yourself in?" her father questioned, his voice rising as a familiar blaze lit up his cobalt eyes. "But not only did you put yourself in danger, you also got Asami and that Firebender boy involved – "

"I wasn't just going to sit back and let Amon hurt Bolin," Korra snapped back, standing now. "I knew it was dangerous – "

"And reckless and incredibly irresponsible!" he countered.

"I was trying to do the right thing! Isn't that what you taught me to do!"

"You could've been killed!"

Korra stared Tonraq down, his own fire reflected at him through her eyes. I stood, caressing her cheek with my hand, bringing her attention to me. The fire in her eyes dimmed once I had her full attention and she released a heavy breath. I knew her heart had been in the right place, it always was, but I needed her to see our side as well.

"Sweetie, I know that you were only thinking of your friend," I began gently. "And it was a very brave thing to do, but as parents, we were worried that something might have happened to you. Especially with that man still out there. He threatened you, honey. You're our baby and if something ever happened to you…"

"I know, Mom," she replied quietly. "And I should've let you know the full situation, or maybe even called Bei Fong but…I – I didn't want you to think I was scared. I thought if I could do this on my own, I could prove to everyone that I wasn't."

"It's okay to be scared," Tonraq said, throwing an arm around her shoulder, kissing the top of her head. "There's nothing wrong with asking for help."

Our little girl nodded her head, hugging her father tightly. I smiled before she held out her arm and brought me into the embrace as well. I hugged my family to me, and relished this moment.

Asami's POV

The "New Team Avatar" as Bolin had made a habit of calling us, was out on patrol. Equalist attacks on Benders had become more frequent and more brutal. Bei Fong had asked Korra to stay out of the way as had Tarrlok but the Waterbender was stubborn. So the one weekend the old Chief was out to follow up on a lead, she decided to take a patrol session, with me as the driver. I didn't mind at all but it had been quite the mission sneaking out of my house. The younger teen had assured me we'd be back before my dad could notice my absence but with Korra nothing ever went as planned.

I smiled at Mako as I parked the car for him and Bo to get in. He merely glanced in my direction before starting up a conversation with the brunette. My eyes narrowed at this and I got out of the car and leaned against the hood, arms crossed as I watched them. After a moment he glanced in my direction and came over, intending to give me a kiss but I moved my head.

"Is something wrong?" he asked. His brow furrowed, confused.

I made a noncommittal noise. Sometimes men could be so obtuse. "Nothing," I answered, calming myself down. I was being irrational. Korra was like a sister to me, she would never intentionally flirt with my boyfriend. At least, that's what I told myself.

"So are we going or what?" Korra asked with that smirk I knew all too well. I chuckled and nodded. "You want to ride in the front Mako?" she asked, looking at my boyfriend.

He shook his head. "I'm good, you can have shotgun…this time," he added with a smirk.

She rolled her eyes. "City Boy, if I get shotgun today, I'm always getting shotgun," the Waterbender replied a hint of playfulness in her voice.

And just like that the feeling of anger was back again. I pushed off the hood and got in the driver's seat, asking everyone to put on their seatbelts before taking off in a rush. I saw Korra jerk forward in her seat a little before she turned to look at me with a raised brow. I shrugged and continued on my way before turning on the police scanner all my father's Satomobiles had, listening in for any disturbances.

"Are you okay?" she whispered so that only I could hear.

"I'm fine, just tired," I replied, keeping my eyes on the road. "It is one in the morning."

She hummed in response and didn't push the subject. We drove around for about an hour before the radio turned on, reporting an Equalist attack in the Dragon Flatts. I could hear Tarrlok's voice, asking the Metalbenders to contain the problem while he headed that way. I glanced over at Korra and she grinned before nodding.

"Let's ride."

I couldn't help but smile at that, turning the wheel and making an illegal u-turn. Oops. Korra laughed, pumping her fist in the air like she did when she was younger. A car drove past us at top speed and I frowned before turning my attention back to the road.

That's when things went south. Everything happened to quick for me to even begin to comprehend.

One moment it was just us on the road and the next several Metalbender cars were coming straight toward us, Tarrlok in the lead. I tried to maneuver the car out of the way but he corrected as well and I closed my eyes as the cars collided.

There was a loud crunch, bending, scraping metal, and the sound of shattering glass. Followed by a hard impact into what I'd later be told was a pole. My ears were ringing, my vision was spinning and my body was sore.

Then everything went dark.

Tarrlok's POV

The sound I made as I got out of my vehicle was one of irritation. Those brats. I had specifically warned Bei Fong about those teenagers trying to do an adult's job, but as usual the Metalbender hadn't heeded my warnings.

I checked the damage to my car, seeing minor dents on the side and bumper where I'd hit the fire hydrant. My jaw clenched. I had wasted thousands of yuans on this car just for those so called 'Team Avatar' delinquents to destroy it in a car crash.

Saikhan came forward before glancing over at the other vehicle, causing for me to do the same. The other car had not been as lucky as myself. They had crashed into a light pole, scrunching up the front end of what appeared to be a top of the line Satomobile, shattering all the windows and destroying one of the tire frames.

There was no discern able movement.

I growled. If that good for nothing Avatar had died, I-

"Someone's moving!" one of the officers shouted, causing my attention to shift to the vehicle once more.

The front passenger door flew off and the young brunette shakily hopped out and walked around the front of the vehicle, barely managing to keep her balance, her face pale. She looked pretty shaken up. Not to mention there was some blood on the side of her face.

She went over to the driver's side and opened the door before gently and carefully pulling the raven haired girl out. I nodded at Saikhan and he ordered his men to help.

"Tough kid," he commented. "Was just in a crash and still has enough of her wits to get her friend out." He paused. "Must be an Avatar trait."

I nodded in response, the wheels in my head turning. That brat had been denying any and all proposals I had made to join my task force since she'd arrived. At first I'd been patient but soon that had turned into frustration and then into irritation when my threats didn't seem to phase her. But Saikhan made a good point. The people in that vehicle…she cared more about them than she did herself.

A smirk appeared at the realization. "Call the Sato girl's father," I told the officer. "And…arrest her and the boys."

"For what?" he asked.

"Public endangerment," I replied. "And being out past curfew."

"They haven't committed a crime. I just can't-"

"Do you want to keep your job?" I asked, cutting the Metalbender off. He clenched his jaw. "Then do what I ask. Arrest all three of them but let the Avatar be," I added, getting into my vehicle.

"She'll want to see you," Saikhan stated.

I smiled. That was exactly what I was counting on. "She knows where to find me." I was counting on it.

Korra's POV

I hissed as the healer ran a glowing, watery hand over the laceration on my temple. I couldn't help but feel completely useless as we sat in the far corner of the station lobby. My friends and I had caused quite a crash, but as far as I knew no one had been seriously injured. Give or take a couple of concussions.

Once I gotten Asami out of the demolished vehicle, Metalbenders had aided me in getting the brothers from the backseat. They were then whisked away for medical attention, and I couldn't quite remember how I'd gotten to the station.

"I think that's good enough," I said pulling my head away from the healer. I needed to check on my friends. I hadn't seen them since the crash and I was getting antsy.

"Avatar Korra, a concussion should not be taken so lightly," he scolded, moving to place his hand back on my head.

"I'm feeling a lot better than when I came in," I protested, standing up to look around, scanning the room for a familiar face. "Where are my friends?"

He sighed and shook his head, picking up his equipment to turn to leave but I grabbed his arm, making him look at me. The man shook his head and tried to pull away but I didn't budge.

"Where are my friends?" I questioned once again.

"Ms. Sato's father was informed of her accident and he came to pick her up," he answered. I winced. She was so dead.

"And your other two friends are being kept locked up until they make bail."

"Make bail?" I repeated. "They didn't do anything wrong!"

"You can take matters up with Tarrlok or Saikhan," he replied, yanking his arm out of my hold. "I'd ask Master Katara to look at your head again if I were you."

My jaw clenched as I turned around and made my way to the main desk of the police department. Saikhan glanced in my direction and made a move to go inside his office but I cut him off, glaring at him. He cleared his throat nervously.

"Avatar Korra, I'm glad to see you're doing fine."

"Why are Mako and Bolin in jail?" I asked, cutting to the chase. "They didn't do anything wrong."

"I am only following orders," he said. "If you have any further questions take them up with Tarrlok."

I should've know this was Tarrlok's doing. "Oh, believe me, I intend to."

Asami's POV

My dad's study was eerily quiet. Well, except for the steady clump of my father's work boots as he paced slowly in front of me. This was bad. Very, very bad. Dad was furious, and I had to admit he had a reason. It's not exactly fantastic when your daughter sneaks out, gets in a wreck, and then you have to bail her out of jail.

I sighed, preparing myself for the worst.

"I didn't believe it at first," he started, finally coming to a stop next to his desk. "I couldn't believe that you had disobeyed me so explicitly. I wanted to think that you stayed home and stopped socializing with that street rat and that so-called Avatar."

"Dad, I - "

"I was so desperate to believe your lies! But I knew the truth. You disobeyed me, betrayed my trust. How could you?"

I flinched. "Korra's my best friend. She needed my help. And I wanted to - "

He grabbed something off his desk and tossed it at me. I fumbled to catch it, some of the loose papers spilling to the ground. It was a newspaper. And the Sato name was splayed all over the front page, along with allegations from Tarrlok about what Korra and I, along with the Bending Brothers had been up to with all our late night "vigilante" work.

This was bad. Very, very bad.

"You have dishonored this family!" he continued, his voice a ferocious roar of disgust. "Do you not realize how bad this looks? I have a delinquent for a daughter!"

I felt my body sink back into my seat in defeat. "Dad," I tried again, my voice pleading. "I was only trying to help..."

He scoffed in utter disbelief, as if the very notion was naive. He turned away from me, as if unable to face me. "You are not to see any of those Benders again."

I took a breath before answering. "No." I was really started to love that word.

My father looked over at me. "Come again?"

"I said no," I repeated. "I'm not a little girl anymore, you can't keep telling me what to do. Korra is my best friend and Mako is my boyfriend. I'm not going to stay away from them."

"As long as you live under my roof, you will do what I say," he replied, and I could see his jaw workin as he tried to keep his composure.

"That can be fixed," I answered, getting up and starting toward the door.

"Where do you think you're going?"

"To pack my things."

"Asami!" he bellowed.

"She is the only friend I've ever had!" I finally snapped. "I'm not going to lose her because of your prejudices. I will help her again if she asks. Now you either want me living here or you don't. Choose."

My father studied me for a long time, trying to see if I would back down, but I wouldn't. I'd had enough of being told what to do.

"Very well," he said after a moment. "But if I ever see the Sato name slandered like this again because of your so called friends you will never step a foot inside this house."

I nodded my head. We had an understanding.

My father sighed, rubbing his temple before slicking back his hair and fixing his tie. "Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go take care of some important business." And just like that we went out separate ways for the night.

Tarrlok's POV

I was in my office late that night, the cascade behind me the only noise in the room aside from the scratch of pen against paper. As I read through the paperwork I couldn't help but wonder what was taking that brat so long. Sure she had a concussion and it would take some time for her to realize what was going on, but I had counted on her stubbornness to get her here. Suddenly, as if on cue, my door flew off its hinges and into the opposite wall. My lips twitched as the teen stormed in. This was going to be interesting.

"You're going to let Mako and Bolin go," she said through her clenched teeth.

I smirked. "You are in no position to be telling me what to do," I replied. "Given that you could easily be in jail with them as well."

"Fine, put me in. Let them out."

I leaned against my seat, watching the girl. "I can easily make this little…problem go away," I began. "If…"

"If what?"

"If you do something for me."

"You have no grounds to keep them locked up," she replied.

"Oh I'm sure I can come up with plenty," I answered dismissively. "The choice is yours. You can either end this or make things worse. And I have to say right now you're helping no one."

"What do you want from me, Tarrlok?"

I smiled triumphantly. Those were the words I had hoped to hear. "Join my task force and I let them go."
We stood in silence for a moment, our gaze meeting head on before the brat laughed humorlessly, shaking her head. I raised a brow. What was so…

"No."

My jaw clenched. "Then they will go to trial."

"You have nothing on them," she said, crossing her arms, her expression turning smug. "They won't even get to the trial. Nice try though."

"This isn't a game," I growled.

"Let me tell you something, chump," the brat began. "I'm the Avatar, you're a blackmailing corrupt council member. I'll always win."

I laughed at the naïveté, shaking my head. Her eyes narrowed, not enjoying being mocked. If this stupid girl thought she would get off the hook that easily, she must've been out of her mind.

"You are not the Avatar," I answered. "You are but a half baked Avatar in training."

Her eyes narrowed dangerously before she scoffed.

"Then why do you need me?"

I straightened in my seat. This girl was entering dangerous territory and either she knew that or she was looking for a fight. Either way it was too late to turn back.

"For image purposes."

She laughed again. "Must be pretty rough having to stoop down this low, you know, asking a child to do an adult's job," the teen continued. "And it must be even worse for the child to say no."

"Is that your final answer?" I asked, trying to keep my voice even. A nod. I stood slowly from my seat. "Then you have left me no choice."

And with those words I threw a series of water icicles with the help of the water cascade behind me. She did a number of flips before some of the icicles caught her face and side causing her to hiss in pain. Her eyes narrowed and she raised a wall to shield herself. I momentarily stopped my attacks only to hear the wall behind me move, barely giving me any time to get out of the way before it fell to the ground, stopping the water. I backed away only to trip and be left hanging by the rail as she came through the hole in the wall, huffing and panting.

"Still think I'm a half baked Avatar?" she yelled before tossing me into the seats below.

I groaned, shaking my head to clear it before I noticed her approach me, fire in her hands. I looked around frantically for some water for me to Bend but finding none I braced myself as she started towards me. I placed my arms in front of me stopping her inches away from me and grinned when I saw the look of shock and panic on her face, having lost the movement of her limbs.

"I-I can't move," she managed to say.

"Very observant." I felt triumphant, and a bit condescending.

She opened her mouth to speak but the sound of clapping cut her off. Her eyes widened once again as the mask revolutionist approached us. I made a sound of annoyance. What did he want now?

"I have to admit for a moment I actually thought she might kill you, little brother," he said.

Korra looked from the Noatak to me, eyes shining with disbelief. "Brother?"

"If you are going to repeat what has been clearly stated, I'd save my breath, Avatar," I snapped.

"Now, now, Tarrlok, you have to see the kind of prodigy this girl is."

"I'm not afraid of you." Her voice shook.

Amon stopped in front of the girl and I could feel her heart race, her blood squirming in my hold. I grinned. So there was someone she was afraid of.

"Release her."

I looked at my brother, wondering if he had finally gone mad. "What? She'll-"

"We have a pending fight. Now release her."

I growled before doing as I was told, backing away from the pair. Out of the corner of my eye the shadows shifted again and I realized Amon had not come alone. The teen landed on her knee, taking in a gulp of air. My brother, however, didn't wait for her to get on her feet before kicking her torso. The Waterbender took in another deep breath, shaking her head before getting up and getting into her stance.

Both went head to head, trying to dominate the other with a series of kicks and punches, most of which the brat took. When my brother was done, I'd get a few punches of my own in. However, I have to say I was surprised when she ran up a wall, landed behind Amon, and punched the porcelain mask, cracking it. He growled and for the first time it seemed the girl had gained the upper hand.

I made a noise before deciding that he might need help after all. Admittedly the girl was a skilled fighter but just as I approached them I was knocked back with a swing to my face. I spat out blood, touching my busted lip as I glared at the girl. My brother was knocked down and just when I thought she'd finish him off, Hiroshi Sato placed a electric glove against her shoulder, sending a jolt through her body. The grin on his face showed his enjoyment. She crumbled to the floor and my brother stood, dusting himself off as I walked over.

"Lift her up," he said. I nodded and did just that, pulling her hair back as I held one arm and the industrialist another. "Wake her up."

Hiroshi grinned and placed his metal glove against her side, effectively waking her up, whimpering and whining in pain. I almost felt sorry for her. Almost.

"You put up a good fight child but I'm afraid our little game is over," my brother began. "And when I'm done with you, you'll wish I had killed you."

He went behind us, placing a hand against her neck and a thumb over her forehead as she struggled in vain to get out of our grip. It was only a moment later before she let out a scream.
