Mako's POV
The months passed, and Mya only continued to become even more adventurous, more mischievous. She was her mother's daughter. She was eight months old and causing all kinds of mischief, making taking care of her a job all its own. Korra was taking a break from the council meetings, going only once a week in order to take care of our daughter. I still trained rookies but as soon as that job was over I'd go straight home to be with my girls. Luckily for us, Mya had inherited my wife's sleeping habits and wouldn't wake up until around the time I left for work, sleeping through the night
I arrived home to find Korra, Naga and Mya on the floor. The polar bear dog was on her back and my daughter on her stomach, giggling as she rose and fell with Naga's breathing. I chuckled, causing Korra to look up and over at me, smiling as she made sure that Mya wouldn't fall. I gave her a kiss before lifting my daughter into arms and giving her an Eskimo kiss. It seemed so unreal that months had passed and she'd grown so much. Now she was mobile, and getting into more trouble.
"How's my little girl?" I cooed a her.
"Unstoppable," Korra muttered as she stood. "She won't take her nap."
I raised a brow at my daughter, watching as she smiled at me before babbling. "Why don't you want to go to sleep, huh? It's nap time," I added as I watched Korra yawn.
"I'm sorry. I'm exhausted. I've been running after her all day." She paused, looking over at the white mass wagging her tail on the floor of our living room. "At least Naga entertained her for a while."
I grabbed the baby bottle as I made my way upstairs. "Well I'm kind of beat too," I admitted. "Maybe a nap of our own can help?"
Korra smiled and nodded as she followed me to our room, laying down as I put Mya between us and gave her a bottle. Our daughter's eyes drooped immediately and it was only minutes before she was fast asleep. Gently I lifted her, careful to not wake her up as I burped her before laying her down again. My wife smiled contently, wrapping an arm over our baby as she snuggled closer. I smirked, kissing her forehead as I draped an arm around them both.
Asami's POV
I couldn't help but smile as I watched Victoria walk over to Mya. She'd taken her first steps not to long ago, giving me a huge dimpled smile and giggling. I had, of course, documented the moment.
Just last week I was on my way back from work when I found my usual way home closed due to construction. I sighed in irritation before calling Korra and telling her I would be taking a little longer than expected as I turned around. My GPS quickly found a new route and I couldn't help but look at the beach houses as I drove by. I saw that one was on sale and pulled over. It wouldn't hurt to look inside, I figured, and I was already running a little late anyway. I peaked through the windows as I stepped up onto the porch and I smiled at the sight. A couple of yards away was a too familiar dock, where I had met my best friend all those years ago. I took a picture of the Realtor's information and then started home.
"The house is beautiful, 'Sami," Korra commented as we talked in the kitchen later.
"Isn't it?" I answered as I took a sip of my drink. "I thought it would be a good vacation spot. You and Mako are welcomed to come whenever you'd like, obviously." They both smiled at me before Mako frowned and tilted his head towards the living room.
"Did you hear something?"
"No, that's the problem," he answered, standing up.
Korra and I did the same before following him into the living room. My best friend rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly and I sighed, shaking my head. Victoria and Mya were next to a shattered pot, covered in dirt and some leaves. Of course we all knew who's idea that had been. My daughter never did that at home but...
"Really?" Korra asked as she lifted up her toddler. "You know, just because you're our miracle baby doesn't mean I'm going to let you get away with these kind of things."
Mya gurgled and stared up at her mother, and Korra slowly softened before sighing and telling her husband to get the diaper bag. I lifted up my own daughter, scowling when I saw how dirty she had gotten her pink dress.
"You're always getting Vic into trouble," Korra continued as she changed the younger girl's shirt and pants, Mya still giggling.
"Well doesn't that sound familiar," I teased as I put another dress on my daughter. Mako laughed, his daughter joining him as Korra grumbled. Some things just never really did change.
Korra's POV
I chuckled as I watched Vic and Mya play. Mako had set up a pool for them and I used my Waterbending to keep them entertained, raising a spout of water and waiting for them to go over to it before making it appear on the other side. My husband shook his head as the girls giggled. Almost four years had passed since our little girl was born and we couldn't be happier. Sure she was a handful, and almost an exact copy of me at that age, Spirits help us. At least she hadn't started to Bend yet or we'd really be in trouble. Victoria was four and just like her mother, the responsible one, though even that backfired most of the time. Mya seemed to be able to get level-headed Victoria to do just about anything.
"We should have another one," I commented to my husband after a moment.
"Hmmm?" he hummed.
I sighed and let the fountain of water disappear as I turned my attention on to him, earning an pouty 'Mommy!' from Mya. "We should have another baby."
My Firebender raised a brow at that. "What happened to your 'I'm never going through this again' ranting in the delivery room?"
I rolled my eyes. "You try pushing out an eight pound baby."
He laughed, kissing my temple as he scooted closer to me on the bench. "Well I think tonight is Asami's turn to babysit," he whispered, kissing my neck.
I smiled and turned to give him a quick kiss. Asami had been trying to date though it never went past the initial stages. She'd go out once in a while but work and her daughter had all, if not the majority, of her attention.
"Aunt Korra! Look!"
I turned to look at the girls, my eyes widening. A small strip of water was raised in the air, and Mya had a fierce look of concentration on her face, her tongue sticking out as she tried to move it around only for it to splash back into the pool, making both girls squeal.
Just moments after my mini me gave Bending a shot, Vic also raised her arms, a bubble of water raising and spilling. My mouth dropped. They were both Benders! I stood and went over to them, trying to get the to try again and they did. I grinned. Asami was going to love this.
Not long after, my best friend arrived, looking tired but her expression quickly changed when she saw her daughter. "Mamma!" Vic ran over to her, hugging her mom before getting back into the pool. I asked her to take a seat before telling the girls to show her what they'd learned today. They both gave their best shots at Bending and I watched as Asami's eyes widened minutely.
She looked from Mya to her daughter, letting out a sigh as she looked over at me. "Like they weren't already trouble together."
I laughed. She had a good point there.
Mako's POV
I smiled as I stood by the door of my daughter's room. Korra was tucking her in, emptying her pockets of anything she might have brought back with her from the beach. I smiled and shook my head. The large polar bear dog stretched out before curling up on the floor at the foot of the bed, her head on the comforter. Naga was very protective of Mya, and had taken to sleeping in her room with her. My wife sat on the bed, covering up our daughter, humming a tune and I watched Mya's eyes droop immediately.
"You've got to laugh a little, cry a little, until the clouds roll by a little," Korra sung softly. "That's the story of, that's the glory of love..."
And just like that, our daughter was asleep.
My wife quietly stood, planting a kiss on the little Waterbender's forehead before scratching behind Naga's ears. She came over to me and I wrapped my arms around her, placing a hand on her bump. Korra and I were having our second child. She had brought up the subject a few months ago. Five months ago she got confirmation that she was indeed pregnant again and we were having a boy. He already seemed to be calmer than his sister, moving around mostly during the day, unlike Mya who hadn't stopped even at night.
Korra sighed as she leaned against my chest. She was going to be heading to the Fire Nation next week to take care of a dispute between villages. It would be the first time she was away from our daughter and I wasn't too happy about it myself. She was pregnant, she shouldn't have to travel. Tenzin assured me that he would be with her at all times but I still didn't want her to leave. I took her hand and led her to our room and she laid down. I planted kisses on her belly, our little boy kicking as I did. I looked up to see her smile, her hand combing though my hair as our son continued to move.
We couldn't wait to meet our little Sammi.
Tenzin's POV
I shook my head as I watched two town leaders argue, Korra standing in the middle. For weeks both towns had been almost at war, lynching citizens, fighting over politics. Fire Lord Izumi had asked the Avatar to bring both men to reason before she moved in her troops but it had been three days and we couldn't even get them to stay in the same building. The Waterbending woman was stressed, the baby moving more than usual. I tried to get he to relax, reminding her she was pregnant. Her husband had not been happy about the trip but I wouldn't have asked her to come if the situation wasn't so dire.
Korra let out a frustrated sigh as both leaders threw insults at each other, her patience wearing thin. I was surprised she hadn't yelled at them yet. I tried intervening but both men simply ignored me until suddenly the argument escalated and one attacked the other. I watched as Korra stood between them, pushing them back with Earthbending before I could do anything.
She let out a shriek of pain before falling to her knees, clutching her swollen belly, falling to her side. I was next to her in an instant, the argument having stopped. I sat her up, watching as she grimaced before letting out a yelp.
"T-the baby," she managed between breaths.
The men began to argue again, blaming each other for her current state. I'd had it with them. I blew air all around me, pushing them both back as I lifted the young woman up, asking her to relax as I ordered someone to drive us to the hospital.
"You're going to be fine," I assured her as we arrived. "You both are."
She yelled in response and I placed her on the stretcher before she was taken away, the nurse telling me I couldn't gone with her. I took a deep breath, willing myself to relax before borrowing their phone and calling Mako. This was not going to be a pleasant phone call.
Asami's POV
I smiled, cooing at the baby wrapped in my arms. Little Sammi. It had taken me a moment to realize that Korra and Mako had named him after the nickname Korra had bestowed on me years ago. He was precious, his hair a dark, dark brown and his skin a smooth porcelain. He was stunning. Despite being born a month premature, the doctors had assured us that he was healthy, if slightly small. Seven pounds, exact.
Mako and I had been watching the girls at my estate when the Firebender had received a call from Korra's mentor, stating that she had gone into labor early. My private jet was ready to go within the next hour, and after leaving the girls with Katara, we were on our way to the Fire Nation, to one of the smaller villages southeast of the capitol.
Now I was here in the hospital holding Sammi and they hadn't let me see her as Mako went to check on his wife. But I had been assured that the Avatar was fine, though she would be drained from the c-section.
The infant started to fuss, trying to stretch his little arms but instinct kicked in and I started to absently sway, rocking him with practiced ease. I started humming this song I'd heard Senna, and then Korra, use a million times before as a lullaby. Moments later, Mako called for me and I walked into Korra's room. She was tired and still covered in cold sweat that hadn't dried. But she smiled nonetheless when she spotted her son and I.
I handed the little tyke over and watched as Mako and Korra fawned over him. I couldn't help but be completely taken with the newest addition too. I was in a world of trouble if he already had me wrapped around his little finger.
Korra's POV
Sammi was now two years old, and Mya now six. I'd be the first to admit that his premature delivery had worried me at the time, but the doctors and nurses had assured me of his health. Mya had also been a great big sibling to him, though she still preferred playing with Vic seeing as Sammi had been to small to play with the majority of his time with us. Sammi didn't seem to mind either way, as he had taken to following Asami around, often to be found at her side, clutching onto her pant leg. It was one of the cutest things I had ever seen.
Today, for instance, Mako and I had brought our two kids over to Asami's estate, it having actually been a few weeks since we'd been able to actually visit. A new batch of rookies was really pushing Mako's patience and the council meetings were horrendous. While Mya and Vic played, Mako keeping ever vigilant watch, I had sneaked away to find Sammi, already knowing where to look. I walked into the garage to see Asami working under one of her Satomobiles, tinkering with Spirits know what, while Sammi sat off to the side, watching and occasionally handing his aunt a tool. Asami accepted each piece of equipment graciously, even if she didn't plan to actually use it.
Sammi's attention sometimes wondered back to his toy cars that sat in front of him, gifts from the CEO obviously. Eventually, Asami rolled out from under the vehicle, wiped her hands on a green grease rag and picked up the two year old, smiling bright despite her sweaty forehead and slight smudge of oil on her temple. Sammi laughed in response.
He had her wrapped around his little finger.
Asami's POV
I felt someone tug on my shirt and I looked down to see amber eyes looking up at me, arms stretched out. I smiled and lifted him up, Sammi showing me the new toy I'd gotten him and telling me how the wheels made the car go far. I kissed his temple, loving his laughter before starting the search for my daughter. I could feel my breath coming in short pants and sweat building on my brow. What was going on? For a while I had noticed that I was tiring easily, feeling beyond exhausted no matter how much rest I got. I spotted my best friend's husband and handed over the smaller Firebender, telling him I needed to find Victoria. Aunt Vesta had definitely overdone my daughter's birthday party.
I spotted my eight year old running after Mya and I sighed, shaking my head. Of course. Where else would she be? I called after her but she just kept getting farther and farther away. I let out an irritated sigh as I tried to walk faster only to feel my chest constrict and I paused, slightly supporting myself on the wall as I called out for her once more.
"Victoria!"
Finally the elder of the two Waterbenders turned, grinning playfully. "Catch me, Momma!"
All that irritation finally took its tool. "Come here! Now!" I snapped. She flinched and I saw a few heads turn in our direction at the unexpected cry. I sighed, immediately regretting having snapped at her and kneeled down to her level as she approached, hands clasped in front of her and looking properly chastised. "I'm sorry, darling," I apologized. "I'm just tired. I didn't mean to yell."
"You're always tired," the little Waterbender mumbled.
I released a heavy breath, knowing the truth behind her words. I caressed her cheek in my palm. "Make sure you greet everyone, okay?" Victoria nodded., managing a small smile. "Go play."
She did what she was told and I turned to find my best friend watching me, concern in her blue eyes as she held my nephew. "Is everything alright?"
I nodded giving a weak smile. "Yes."
Her cobalt eyes studied me, not really believing my answer. "Okay," she finally relented. "But just so you know, your Aunt Vesta is driving me insane. She keeps following me around like I'm going to steal something."
I chuckled. She had never really been fond of Korra, having even mistaken her for a thief the first time they met. "You know how she is. But you know that what's mine is yours."
Korra smiled at me before her son looked over at me. "Aunt 'Sami, do you have candy?"
"No your aunt doesn't have candy," his mother answered for me, giving me a pointed look. "You've already had to many sweets."
I chuckled before handing him a lollipop, watching as Korra glared at me. "It's not my fault he has your sweet tooth," I teased, causing her to grumble.
