Chapter 15
"We're finally here. The Indigo League." Naruto stated as he stared at the grand Pokemon Center that served as the registration center and lodging for participating trainers in the Indigo League.
Trainers were now gathering as they registered and waited to get their numbers after the opening ceremony, which was to beginning as soon as the torch bearer arrived to light the flames.
"Why didn't you just participate in the torch running? I'm sure you could have gotten the approval with your connections." James asked he lazily sat on the couch with Growly in his lap when they got inside. The two had got to the Indigo Plateau during a fairly late hour and they had woken just before dawn.
"Because, as fun as it sounds, we really don't need that much attention before the tournament begins." A female voice said, making the two males turn around to see Ayumi, Jessie, and Meowth. "Wouldn't you agree, Naruto?"
The blond grinned at his silver haired companion, "Of course, Ayumi. It's been a while. Training your butt off, I hope?"
"And a few of my lives." Meowth groaned with Ayumi scratching him behind the ears, "But we're all tougher than ever now, so we won't lose."
"I hope you can say the same." The albino breeder smirked, "Wouldn't want to lose my best competition here."
Naruto nodded, "You took the words right out of my mouth. So did you find out what room you two will be staying at?"
"2416." The Sinnoh native replied, "It's on the second floor near the elevator. What about you?"
"2414, it looks like we're neighbors." The Unova native laughed, "Looks like we'll have to whisper our battle plans when we're in our rooms."
"Or soundproof the walls with Psychic." Ayumi laughed as well.
The group spent so much time catching up that they didn't realize it was already time for the opening ceremonies to start. "Participating trainers, will you please start heading to the stadium in an orderly manner for the opening ceremonies, and the lighting of the torch. I repeat, participating trainers, please start heading to the stadium in an orderly manner." Nurse Joy's voice announced through the speakers as trainers started making their way to the stadium.
"You two get going," Jessie waved, "We'll find some seats to watch in the stands."
James nodded, "Make all the training you two did worth it."
"Hurry it up, James. I want good seats." The magenta haired woman hissed as they made their way through crowds of people.
"I'm coming, Jessie! Look! I see empty seats over there!"
"Then move faster!"
As the two sighed at finally getting to sit somewhere, they froze when they heard two ever annoying voices, "Jessica! Jake! I didn't think we'd see you two here!"
They stiffly turned, only a few knew those aliases, and they were right that it was Misty and Brock.
Giving a crooked smile, Jessie asked, "Ayumi and Naruto are participating, so why wouldn't we be here?"
The Pewter City gym leader nodded, "That makes sense. We haven't seen them in a while, how have they been doing?"
"Training ever since they won their eighth badge and pre-registered." James replied, as though it was only natural. "What about the twe- I mean Ash? Did he get ready for the tournament?"
The two sweat dropped as Ash really was not at all prepared compared to Naruto and Ayumi. Misty smiled in a non-convincing manner, "Ash will pull through somehow."
The two that were in Naruto's group glanced at each other with the same thought, "Looks like those two have this championship in the bag."
"Oh look, they're coming out!" The water type specialist announced, pointing to the Pikachu owner, "There's Ash!"
The cap wearing boy was obviously nervous, "This kid's walking like a robot." Jessie commented.
"Gary looks confident." Brock added as he pointed out Ash's rival, who walked with a smirk and his head held high.
"Naruto's looking calm and cool." James pointed out as the blond walked along like the tournament was like going on a stroll.
"Ayumi's really standing out with all the black." Jessie added as the silverette held a cold and confident demeanor as Meowth smirked, trying to appear intimidating.
As the four mentioned trainers took their places, Ash and Naruto on one side, and Ayumi and Gary on the other, possibly signifying the blocks that the competing trainer would be in, the Pokemon League Association's president, Charles Goodshow took the podium after the final runner lit the central flame. "Welcome one and all! This stadium is a very special place! A place where those who truly love Pokemon come to compete! Here at the glow of the flame of Moltres that burns brightly to light up the hearts of our spirits. Battle valiantly and keep that fire alive! In your heart, and in your spirit!"
The participating trainers cheered as through the people, the two foreign trainers glanced at each other with a fire in their eyes as they gave a silent nod and grin.
"Welcome to Pokemon Village, may I see your identification to see who your preliminary opponent is, and on which battle field?" two kind receptionists asked as they smiled.
"Of course." Naruto and Ayumi said as they both handed their Poke-dexes to the receptionists they were in front of as they bowed before going to their computers to see the database.
"You're all signed in, would you please press the button to know which field and your opponent."
"Naruto, which field are you hoping for?" The silverette asked before the two pressed the button.
The blond smirked, "We'll win on any terrain."
"That's what I was hoping you'd say." Ayumi smirked back as they both pressed the button and watched as the screen lit and rotated around the four choices of water, grass, mountain, and ice field.
The grass field stopped for Naruto, and the ice field for Ayumi.
"The grass field... you'll be facing Angel." The receptionist informed, "you're the second match, so be sure to make it at noon. Good luck." Naruto was up against a blond girl, that from the looks of her frilly hair accessories, could prefer cute Pokemon, but he couldn't be sure.
The Unova native nodded as he watched who his traveling companion's opponent was. "You're opponent is Tom, your match is in an hour, good luck in the tournament." On the screen was a fairly plain looking guy that wasn't too significant.
Ayumi nodded with a smile, "Thanks miss." She turned to Naruto, "Looks like I'm going first. I'll head to to pick which three Pokemon I'll use, cheer me on alright."
"Ice is one of your best types, I feel sorry for Tom." Naruto smiled, "Of course I'll cheer for you till you reach the finals for me to beat you. Someone needs to gets to get second place."
The red eyed breeder chuckled as she turned around to head for the PC, "Don't go taking my lines, Naruto. I'll be watching your matches too."
"You and Ayumi are really pumped up." Rhapsody quietly commented as she made sure she wasn't seen. "Hey Daddy, when will I get to shine?"
"After the fourth round." The blond laughed as he discreetly patted the pouting Meloetta, "Don't be like that. I can't just away my ace at the start of the tournament."
"Fine."
Call from Iruka. Call from Iruka. Naruto's Xtransceiver rang as he picked it up to see that in the screen were not only Iruka, but also Kakashi, and his mom and dad.
"Hey, son! We saw you on TV during the opening ceremonies, great job making it this far!" Minato praised.
"Thanks Dad!"
"Honey, don't forget that even if it's a regular battle, make you're Pokemon shine with what they have!" Kushina informed with a stern face and bright eyes.
"Of course, Mom!"
"Keep all of your Pokemon in peak condition, Naruto! Be sure to take care of them before and after the matches!" Iruka advised.
"Don't worry, Iru-nii, I will!"
"Maa... They got to say everything before me. Do your best and have fun, Naruto." Kakashi said as he gave an eye smile as he usually did.
"Thanks, Kashi-nii!"
"We'll be watching the first few rounds until we get there, so keep making us proud!" The older blond said with a wide grin to his son as Naruto did the same.
"I won't let anyone down!"
"So which field are you battling on first?" Kushina asked.
"Grass."
Minato chuckled, "If you battle like your mother, the terrain will become either a field of flames or a marsh."
"Hey!"
The younger blond laughed, "Don't worry, I'll make my Pokemon shine without destroying the field!"
"Honey, don't take your father's side! That was when I was younger!"
"So when is your match?" The male silverette asked.
"It's at noon. I'm battling a girl named Angel, so I have to be up for anything."
"What will you be doing in the meantime?" The breeder wondered.
"Ayumi's match is up soon, she's battling on the ice field."
Kakashi's eyebrow rose, "Oh the girl that Kushina says reminds her of me and is your rival in battle? She sounds like good competition."
"She is." Naruto nodded, "I better get going. Bye!"
"Good luck!"
"We're starting off our very first match in the ice field today! In the red corner, we have Ayumi Devon from Jubilife City! She's from the Sinnoh region, with this being her Pokemon League debut! How will she do in her first battle?! In the green corner, we have Tom from Celadon City! There's not much snow there, so how will things go against these two?! Each trainer is only allowed three Pokemon, now let the battle begin!"
"The emcee's annoying." Ayumi muttered as she stretched and fixed her ponytail. "Oh well, time to cause a blizzard." She smirked.
The screen lit as it revealed their pictures on either side as all three lights to signify as their Pokemon were on.
"I'll go first!" Tom yelled confidently. "Dodrio, go!"
The three headed bird Pokemon cawed as it dug it's talons into the ice to prevent sliding.
The albino breeder quickly noticed and sighed, "I can't choose my opponents. Show them how the ice is your home, Glaceon!"
"Glace!" The Fresh Snow Pokemon called out as she flipped and gracefully landed on one of the ice mounds.
"So Ayumi went to evolve her Eevee into a Glaceon in the mountains." Naruto concluded as he watched in the stands, "Let's see what you can do."
"Begin!"
Ayumi wasted no time as she quietly ordered, "Sliding Blizzard."
"Alright Dodrio, Tri- huh? Where'd it go?" Tom asked as he and Dodrio looked around as Glaceon vanished from her perch, but was greatly surprise when suddenly a blizzard came at the normal/flying type from four points.
No.
The blizzard was rotating from a moving blue blur.
"This is stunning!" The emcee announced, "Ayumi's Glaceon is using the ice field to its full capacity as it slides around and around Dodrio while it uses Blizzard as well as its tail to pick up momentum to create this blizzard twister! Can Dodrio escape?!"
"Dodrio get out of there!" Tom exclaimed, but Triple Bird Pokemon only slipped within the blizzard and could do nothing.
Waiting a few moments of the unrelenting snow storm, Ayumi finally called, "We're done, Glaceon."
The ice Eeveelution slowed down as her body could once again be seen as she bounded away to her trainer's side of the field. Leaving behind a frozen and unconscious Dodrio.
"Dodrio is unable to battle!" The referee announced as he held out the red flag.
"What a merciless one-sided battle from this sweet looking girl in black! Ayumi and her Glaceon took down Tom's Dodrio without wasting a breath! Can he make a comeback?!"
"Go Raticate! Thunder!" The normal type immediately did as it was commanded as it released electricity while it was still in the air.
"Mirror Coat." The electric blast that had intended to hit the Fresh Snow Pokemon rebounded back to Raticate and shocking the rodent. "Follow up with Blizzard Shot."
As Raticate was coming back down, Glaceon launched a condensed Blizzard at it, instantly freezing the Pokemon as soon as it made contact.
The poor normal couldn't take anymore and fainted. "Raticate is unable to battle!"
"What a cold reception, Ayumi is giving! Her Glaceon has single-handedly taken down two of Tom's Pokemon! At this rate, will it be worn out enough for Tom's last Pokemon to pull through?!"
"Go Venomoth!"
"Dig."
"Huh?" The trainer from Celadon uttered as he let out his last Pokemon, only for his opponent's to disappear once more. He knew that this time though, he had to think fast, "Cover yourself with Stun Spore, quick!"
Glaceon bounded up from beneath the ground and tackled the bug/poison type, barely wincing as she inhaled the paralyzing particles. "Finish with Last Resort." The ice type wasted no time as she bounded back to the ice mound to launch herself at Venomoth and tackle with all her might to send them both crashing into an ice mound as it shattered.
From the rubble, a blue tail wagged as Glaceon emerged as she padded back to her trainer and leaped into Ayumi's arms. The silverette smiled, "Good job showing your strength, Glaceon."
"Glace~"
"Venomoth is unable to battle! Ayumi wins!" The referee announced as he cleared away the ice to show the Poison Moth Pokemon unconscious.
As the crowd cheered, the emcee declared, "What a one-sided battle from Ayumi! With only her Glaceon, she mercilessly defeated all three without a sweat! Ladies and gents, we've got a competitor in the mix!"
After the Sinnoh native healed her Glaceon of her paralysis and mild exhaustion, she came down with Meowth on her shoulder and was surprised when a microphone stopped in front of her face. "Ayumi, will you answer a few questions for our viewers back home about your battle?!" A reporter asked.
"Sure..." Ayumi replied, not quite sure as to what else to say.
"What Pokemon is a Glaceon? How did you train it to be so strong?"
"It's an Eevee evolution that's an ice type, and I only raised her and all my Pokemon to the best of my abilities."
"Any words of advise to those still getting ready for their first match?"
"Get your Pokemon to fit the field. It's not a good sight when your Pokemon can't adapt well."
"Any competitors you're hoping to go up against soon or in the finals?"
The albino breeder smirked, "He's in the stands so I'll say this, good luck and lets meet in the top two."
As Ayumi left, the reporter turned to the camera, "You heard it from us, Ayumi Devon has made a crystalizing debut as the first winner of the ice field! Who else will reveal themselves in the Indigo League! Stay tuned!"
Teleporting back to her room thanks to Alakazam, Ayumi sighed, "I don't like having cameras in my face."
"Yer a great breeder, Ayumi. Of course, you'd get screen time." Meowth commented.
"I guess you're right, Meowth." The albino breeder smiled, "Glaceon did really well, just like I thought she would."
"Hey Ayumi, I figured you'd be back here for a break!" Naruto called out as he knocked on the door.
The silverette got up as she went to open the door, "Hey Naruto. You didn't have to come all the way back here, you have to head to your match, don't you?"
"I have time and I'm all set!" The blond grinned, "I thought I should congratulate my rival with a free bite to eat really quick."
Ayumi gave a blank look, "Almost everything here is free for us."
"I know!" Naruto stated with his smile still planted on his face.
The silverette laughed, "Oh alright, something to eat couldn't hurt. I'll teleport you to the grass field stadium afterwards."
"Thanks Ayumi!"
"So Ayumi, since you have Glaceon now, does that mean you've breeded her with your Espeon?" Naruto asked after slurping up some of his ramen.
"Yup, I already have a couple Eevee eggs, and one just hatched. I'll be training that one to evolve into a Sylveon." Ayumi replied after she ate some of her takoyaki. "I'll give you one of the eggs like I promised after, your match."
"Thanks. And good timing too, it's almost time."
"Okay Alakazam, Teleport!" The albino breeder called out as she let out her Alakazam.
As they landed in the waiting room, the Sinnoh native waved, "I'll be getting front seats in the stands. Do your best!"
The Unova native high-fived Ayumi before she left, "Don't I always?"
"We're on our second match at the grass field, can these two make things even more exciting in the first rounds of the Indigo League?! In the green corner, we have the son of the great Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki! Naruto Uzumaki-Namikaze from Undella Town! It's a given that he'll be as formidable in his debut as the little miss merciless from Jubilife City, Ayumi Devon, so how will Angel from Viridian City at the red corner fare?!"
Naruto's eyebrow twitched, "Really, they didn't need to bring up my parents."
"Little miss merciless? Are they trying to make me sound evil?" Ayumi thought from the stands, just as unhappy with this emcee as Naruto was.
"Who cares who you are? It only just means that I'll be even more popular after I beat you." Angel called arrogantly from the other side of the field. "Go, Butterfree!"
"Falco, let's go!" As the scarred Fearow came out with a caw that made the Butterfly Pokemon flap its wings in panic, the female blond exclaimed in horror.
"Your ugly looking Fearow better not try to eat my adorable Pokemon!"
Naruto just stared with a blank face before ordering, "Flamethrower."
"Fea-row!" With a strong flame from coming from Falco's beak, Butterfree didn't see it coming as the now charred bug/flying type fell to the ground.
"Butterfree is unable to battle!"
Angel gaped, "Impossible! A fearow can't know Flamethrower!"
The emcee and audience were stunned, "What's this?! A Fearow knowing Flamethrower?! Naruto really has some cards up his sleeve!"
The Unova native smirked, just as Falco was, "Try hitting Falco to find out."
Angel growled as she recalled her Butterfree to let out her next Pokemon, "Teach that bird a lesson with Charge Beam, Raichu!"
"Take it."
"Big mistake." The blond from Viridian smirked, but gaped when the scarred Fearow that Raichu was attacking turned into a type of black bipedal fox with purple claws and mane. "What is that?!"
"Meet Kuroi, my Zoroark." Naruto grinned as the shiny Zoroark gave a feral smirk, "He's from the Unova region like me, and can be... a little tricky."
"It's so cute, cool, and strong!" A certain albino breeder thought with shiny eyes, "I am definitely catching and training a few when I get the chance."
"Will you look at that folks! A Pokemon that can disguise as other Pokemon! But does that mean Naruto can't rely on that trick now that is has been revealed?!"
"Not at all, Hyper Voice."
The wail from the Zoroark was enough to take down the electric type as though the earlier attack had done nothing at all.
"Raichu, no!"
"Raichu is unable to battle!"
"It looks like this Zoroark can really pull off being a dark type if it is what it looks like! Angel is now down to her last Pokemon, can she pull through?!"
"You're my last hope, Vileplume!" Angel called out her last Pokemon, feeling just how much strength the son of those two amazing trainers had, and wasn't just some brat with a name. "Hyper Beam!"
At the blast, the audience waited with bated breath to see what had happened to the Illusion Fox Pokemon since his trainer had not called out an order, but only heard Naruto chuckling, "It might've done damage if Vileplume was trained more, but thanks for showing your Hyper Beam."
Angel glared at the younger boy, "What's makes you say that?! It's obvious your Zoroark lost!"
"Illusions aren't the only thing that makes Kuroi tricky. Why don't you show them your Copycat?"
From the dust, a flash of light peaked before a beam of sheer power blasted as it hit the grass/poison type and sent it crashing into the stadium wall. When the beam thinned and dust cleared, Kuroi was seen giving his ever feral smirk as Vileplume had fallen unconscious as it gave a weak and dizzy moan of its name.
"Vileplume, no!" The blond from Viridian screamed in horror at how easily she was defeated.
"Vileplume is unable to battle! Naruto is the winner!" The referee declared as he raised the green flag.
The Unova native grinned as he petted his shiny Zoroark, "You were incredible, Kuroi! Your transformations were flawless!"
"Raa~!" Kuroi roared happily.
The crowd cheered, "Well folks, Naruto has really made himself one of the biggest competitors in this tournament! Will he live up to the names his parents made and tear through the Indigo League with strength and grace! Or will he have trouble along the way?!"
Needless to say, the reporter was relentless as she questioned, "With this being your battle debut, will you be following your father's footsteps to become champion?"
Remembering that his parents warned him about this and to be calm, "My goal is not only to become Champion, but also Top Coordinator. I'll work my way up so I can surpass them."
"That's a very big goal, Naruto. Do you find someone here that will be a challenge in this tournament?"
The blond grinned, "She called me out earlier and I'll do the same. My best friend and rival Ayumi will definitely reach the finals and we'll have a grand duet of a battle to see who gets to be the victor!"
"You mean Ayumi Devon from the ice field? She certainly does seem to be a powerful trainer with a very powerful first impression. Just as you sure have."
"Well we only raised our Pokemon with our heart and soul, to the point where our bonds strengthen each other."
"One more question. After this announcement, your competition won't be seeing you lightly now, but if or when you and Ayumi as you say reach the finals and one of you were to win, what would you do if you were lose? Not in an an insulting way."
"We're friends even though we're rivals, and we agreed that who ever won, we would cheer for the other when the other faces the Elite Four and Champion. Afterwards, I'll be participating in the Kanto Pokemon Contests."
"Thank you." The reporter politely thanked before facing the camera as she announced while Naruto left, "What sportsmanship, folks! Naruto Uzumaki-Namikaze has made himself known in his very first Pokemon battle! Will things go as he plans and face the rookie from Sinnoh, Ayumi Devon, at the finals?! Or will the other competitors take one or both of them out?! Stay tuned to find out!"
"Bravo Naruto, you did great." Ayumi congratulated as she caught up with the Unova native. "I really thought you would've rotated your Pokemon so they could all get a chance on the field."
"Well I thought the same thing you did," Naruto replied, "I'll keep as many cards in my hand until after the fourth round. Til then, I'll keep my other Pokemon and battle moves up my sleeves."
The silverette just chuckled, "Great minds think alike, I guess."
"You could say that again." The blond laughed as well, "Ash is having his first match in the water field with a really flamboyant guy, do you want to watch and scope our competition?"
The red eyed breeder considered it as she considered all of Ash's Pokemon she had seen thus far with Naruto. They were well loved and cared for... but not all that strong. "I know this is Ash's first time in a Pokemon League tournament too, but will he even last long enough to face Naruto or myself? Better yet, does he even view us as competition?" Ayumi thought as she wondered whether the boy from Pallet was taking this as seriously as they were. From what she'd learned from her cousin in Hoenn and Kazuki, arrogance was a sure sign for defeat.
Oh well, it wasn't like the Sinnoh native could reprimand Ash for being childish. Even if Naruto and Ayumi were the same age and more mature. "Sure thing, it couldn't hurt to see how far Ash has come since we'd last seen him."
"Hey isn't that the Krabby that Ash and the others talked about back at the S.S. Anne?" The albino breeder asked. "It's small. It doesn't look very well trained."
Naruto couldn't help but agree, even though he didn't train his Pokemon to be much larger than average in size like his silver haired companion, as they watched Ash's match of the Pikachu owner letting out the small water type. The opponent Ash was up against was using an Exeggutor, and at the moment had Krabby trapped in a whirlpool using Psychic while dropping Egg Bombs. "I don't think ever trained that Krabby."
"What? It's never a wise idea to make this sort of thing a Pokemon's first battle." Ayumi stated disapprovingly. "Depending on how a Pokemon loses its first match, it could traumatize them."
The blond nodded in agreement as they continued watching, and to their surprise, Ash's Krabby had won, and from the massive amount of experience it gained, it evolved into Kingler. The water type easily defeated Seadra, and while it had some trouble with Golbat, it too was defeated by a Hyper Beam.
"It looks like Krabby, or rather Kingler, didn't want to let Ash down." Naruto commented as they watched the brunette leap and hug his Kingler in joy of their victory. "We may have some competition after all."
"I don't know, I get the feeling he's going to let the wins get to his head." Ayumi voiced out uncertainly.
The two sweat dropped as they watched Ash leap around in front of the camera before they got up to head back to their rooms, "Well, I guess Ash better hope he doesn't battle one of us tomorrow. We're not going easy on anyone."
A/N: And that's chapter 15! Naruto and Ayumi definitely breezed by this match, each showing a new Pokemon to their teams. Speaking of new Pokemon, if anyone remembers Kuroi from my other Naruto crossover, or as I like to call this story's alternate version, this is him, shiny anyways. I couldn't exactly just bring Rhapsody alone, but I figured that he would appear at Naruto's side best in the first round of the Indigo League after training. For those wonder for future records on Naruto and Ayumi's Pokemon, they didn't just stay in one region, after all with their capabilities they could easily go to as many places as they needed to train.
As for their opponents, Angel and Tom... Simply put, background characters that will never appear again that I came up with names for on the spot. "Tom" though was the guy that was interviewed by Team Rocket in the canon though, so I wouldn't have so much trouble picking Pokemon for Ayumi to battle against.
As for their views of Ash, they have the memories of what happened with Mewtwo, so they've seen him battle to an extent, but even so, he didn't have much control over his Charizard. Result, Naruto and Ayumi are having low thoughts about him. While I am focusing mainly on Naruto's perspective, and sometimes Ayumi's for a little change of pace, Ash probably wouldn't have seen Naruto or Ayumi's interview, but only Gary's, with my thoughts being that he's never seen them battle themselves, so he's confident that he'd storm through them, but Brock has, so he'd warn him. I'm not trying to be mean to Ash, but his swelling ego is a little irritating with how barely trained his Pokemon were at that point in time.
As for Ayumi's little moniker, I think "Miss Merciless" or at the moment "Little Miss Merciless" for her age, fits with her battle style of attacking until her opponent's Pokemon are defeated, mostly for the fact that they've only seen her Glaceon and not her larger and bulkier Pokemon, but I think it was only a matter of time.
Naruto so far has yet to make a name for himself, since he's currently still shadowed by his mom and dad, but he'll definitely receive a title.
In any case, let's move onto Naruto, Jessie and James Pokemon. We can't have Ayumi's showing until after the tournament since she is Naruto's competition as well after all!
