Chapter 16

"Dewgong, finish it with Sheer Cold!" Naruto ordered with his water/ice type doing as she was ordered as she howled the frigid wind to freeze the Flareon in front of her and knock it unconscious.

"End it with Focus Blast, Breloom." Ayumi calmly called out as her grass/fighting type sent the massive ball of energy at the Victreebel and ending the match.

"They've done it, folks! Naruto/Ayumi have once again won with only one Pokemon and not even losing a single Pokemon! Things are really heating up here at the ice/grass field! He/She really is starting to be a crowd favorite, ladies and gents!"

"They're breezed through the second round easily." Jessie commented to James from the Xtransceiver as she sat to watch the silverette's battle while former Team Rocket male watched the blonde's match. Incidentally, the two young trainer's fields swapped and was scheduled to begin at the exact same time, so to compromise, they had Jessie and James watch for the other.

"Is it too surprising, Jessie?" The lavender haired man remarked, "We've seen them train, and they even helped train our own Pokemon. If anyone will win this entire tournament, it's one of them."

"Hey James, did Jessie tell you how Ayumi did?" Naruto called out to James as he caught up with the older trainer.

"She won with a large Breloom and a move or two per Pokemon. The usual." The older man replied.

The blond nodded, "Just what'd you'd expect for her. Come on, I'm sure she headed off to the nearest Pokemon Center. We can get some dinner afterwards."

"Hey, Naruto. Great job in your match!" Ayumi congratulated as she and Jessie noticed the boys of their group come into the Pokemon Center while she was waiting for her Pokemon to be returned.

The Unova native grinned after he went to give Nurse Joy his Pokemon as well, "Thanks, you were something too, I heard. Want to grab some dinner after we find out which field we'll be battling in for the third round?"

"Sure thing, Meowth and I have gotten a little hungry from our battle."

" Looks like my water Pokemon will get to have a nice swim tomorrow, and you'll be up first this time, so I get to watch you battle in the mountain field." The Sinnoh native beamed as she took a bite out of her pot sticker that she chose from the buffet options. Jessie and James were sitting elsewhere as they stuffed their faces on the free food.

Naruto slurped his ramen before replying with a cheeky grin, "I just hope you don't flood the stadium with your water type moves."

The albino breeder pouted, "I would never. My Pokemon always preform all their moves powerfully and flawlessly." Even though she was thinking back to a part of her training where she accidentally...

"I can't help it, Misty! That girl over there's a fan of mine, and she said I could eat whatever I want for free!" A familiar voice exclaimed, making the two foreign turn to see that they had inadvertently sat across from Ash without noticing.

"Hey Ash, Misty." Naruto greeted.

Noticing the fairly large amount of food on their table, Ash grinned, "Do you have fans in here too?"

Ayumi sweat dropped, "I wouldn't know about any fans, but Pokemon trainers competing in the tournament eat free."

"We're covering for Jessica and Jake's bill too."

Misty faced them, "It's nice to know that you two haven't let your battles get to your heads. I'm sure you've won your battles?"

"Yeah, we decided to get dinner after we had our Pokemon checked up and healed." The blue eyed blond replied.

That made the redhead sigh, "Why can't you be like these two? Now the Pokemon Centers all full and we have to wait until there's room."

Meanwhile the trainers were talking, Rhapsody and Meowth noticed Misty's Togepi tugging at the tablecloth and consequently knocking down a basket of silverware of forks and knives. Pikachu tried to save Togepi, but ended up being on the receiving end of the falling silverware as he was pinned down.

Naruto and Ayumi looked down with raised eyebrows while the Meloetta and Scratch Cat Pokemon were laughing, "Are you practicing to be in the circus, Pikachu?" The brunette asked his Pokemon.

"Don't do something like that, okay Togepi?" Misty said to her Pokemon.

"What's so funny, Rhapsody?" Naruto asked the Melody Pokemon that incoherently replied as she laughed.

"Toge... Pull... Pika... circus... forks..!"

"Okay... So which field will you be battling in tomorrow, Ash?" The Sinnoh native asked, changing the subject.

"I'll be going in the ice field, what about you two?"

The blond responded, "I'll be in the mountains field, and Ayumi's in the water field. I'll be battling before her, so you guys can come watch if you want."

The brunette grinned, "Sure thing!"

"Well folks, we're here for the third round of the Indigo League! Here in the mountains fields, we have our formidable competitor that has won the crowd with his powerful and graceful Pokemon at the green corner, Naruto Uzumaki-Namikaze! And at the red corner, we've got a trainer hoping to derail him, Ken from Pewter City! Let the battles begin!"

Naruto's opponent was a fairly tall burly man with shaggy brown hair. He was definitely exuding confidence with the field being in his favor.

"Go, Golem!"

"Time to dance, Medicham!"

From the stands, Ash tried to see what the Pokemon Naruto was using was, but he found no data, "What is that Pokemon?"

Ayumi who was sitting nearby, replied, "Medicham, the Meditate Pokemon, it's a fighting/psychic type from the Hoenn region. Their natural habitat is the mountain range and caves."

Brock was impressed, "Naruto came prepared for this battle."

Ken sneered, "What can a little belly dancer do in this rocky field?! Golem, Steamroller!"

"Detect, and follow through with Force Palm!" As the barreling Pokemon rolled, fighting/psychic type effortlessly spun to the side before slamming her palm onto Golem and sending it crashing into one of the rocks twice for good measure.

Suffice to say, Golem was no longer able to continue as it fainted with the referee announcing, "Golem is unable to battle!"

"Cham." Medicham sneered at her opponent before returning to her trainer's side. It seemed that she took that comment personally.

"Good job with your performance, Medicham!" Naruto praised joyfully from his platform.

Ken grit his teeth as he recalled his Pokemon, "I won't lose to a kid, go Machamp!"

Surprising the audience, the blond recalled the Meditate Pokemon, with the emcee declaring, "Naruto is actually switching Pokemon!? For the first time since his first two matches, he has not once changed out his Pokemon, what could this mean for Ken?! I know one thing for sure, I'm anticipating what Pokemon Naruto will call out!"

"Ring, Bronzong."

"A floating bell? My Machamp has this in the bag! Dynamic Punch!"

As the four armed fighting type charged to land the blow, the Bronze Bell Pokemon levitated high into the air, out of Machamp's reach.

"Flash Storm." As soon as she heard the command, Bronzong immediately began spinning as she used Flash Cannon, but instead of launching it, she stopped it with Psychic before separating it and having the fragmented Flash Cannon fall like acid rain enhanced with Psychic.

"Look at that, Naruto seems to be putting his contest knowledge to use in this battle! Will Machamp be able to avoid that rainstorm?!"

"Get out of there!" The man from Pewter yelled, but it was useless as the downpour didn't stop until the fighting type fainted.

As Bronzong slowed to a stop, the referee declared, "Machamp is unable to battle!"

"Folks, it seems almost guaranteed that Naruto will win, but it's not over yet! Can Ken's last Pokemon push and get the win?"

"Rhydon, you're my last chance!" Ken yelled as the Drill Pokemon appeared and roared.

"Bronzong, you were great." The Unova native praised as he called back his Pokemon to let out his last one. "Kabutops, let's end this!"

"This isn't something you see everyday, folks! Naruto has the prehistoric Pokemon, Kabutops! They were known to be strong and violent, can Rhydon handle this?!"

The trainer from Pewter was now showing some nervousness from seeing a Pokemon that should've been extinct in front of him, but he wasn't ready to give up yet, "Hammer Arm!"

"Slow it down with Rain Dance!" The Shellfish Pokemon did as she was told as she created a downpour, effectively making the charging Rhydon cringe from the water. "Now Aqua Jet!"

The crowd was amazed that as the rock/water type glided through the air in a torrent of water, she had her scythe like arms out make the water ripple and appear like wings as it hit the unsuspecting ground/rock type.

As the Rhydon laid unconscious and the rain let up, the audience cheered as the referee declared, "Rhydon is unable to battle! Naruto is the winner!"

"Naruto has done it again, ladies and gents! He's used different Pokemon for each round and won with a display of power and grace! With his next battle being in the water field, how will his next opponent handle Naruto?! Or will things go as planned, and face off against his friend and rival Ayumi?! We'll see!"

"Ash, Naruto is going to be serious competition." Misty commented to the brunette with the Pikachu.

Brock nodded as he glanced at his fellow breeder, "Ayumi too, you may not be able to win against them."

Ash grinned, "It just means the bigger challenge for when I beat them!"

Ayumi just gave a blank look, "Sorry, but unless you train harder, you don't have a chance of beating either of us. You're letting your wins get to your head."

"You don't have to be so rude, Ayumi! Ash is trying his best!" The water type specialist reprimanded.

The Sinnoh native shook her head before heading off to catch up to Naruto, "You've only seen one of Naruto's battles. Mine is up next, feel free to watch if you have time. I'll show you the difference between the three of us."

"You sure are riled up, Ayumi. Something tells me it's about Ash and the others." Naruto commented as the silverette brushed Meowth.

Ayumi just sighed, her battle was in roughly twenty minutes, so she thought she might as well briefly groom the normal type. "I just find it irritating with Ash. He knows so little about Pokemon, but I can tell he and his Pokemon love each other."

"I take it, you mean his lack of training?" The blond asked, knowing that for a breeder that always wanted their Pokemon to be the best like Ayumi, it must've bothered her.

The Sinnoh native nodded, "I just don't understand why he's so overconfident, even after seeing your amazing display of a battle. He thinks he can beat us as he is now."

Naruto couldn't help but shake his head, "Ash still doesn't have his Charizard's respect, I think that shows that he's prepared yet. Your turn to give him a taste of reality, Ayumi."

The albino breeder smirked, "It'll be my pleasure."

"Ladies and gents, here at the water field is a battle we've been waiting for! Little Miss Merciless, Ayumi Devon at the red corner, and she looks ready for another swift battle with her large and powerful Pokemon, but can Tammie from Vermillion City stop her?! Or will the win go to Ayumi?!"

"Go, Golduck!"

"Do your best, Lanturn!"

To Naruto's surprise, it wasn't the same Lanturn that was a Chinchou they'd both caught back then, but this one was purple with the mask being a different shade of yellow. The Unova native smirked, "Ayumi's breeding skills are something, getting a shiny."

"What is that Pokemon?" The boy from Pallet asked curiously as he and his group watched the Light Pokemon swim around.

"It's a Lanturn, a water/electric type from Johto." The blond informed, "That one is a rare colored one, and I can tell that Ayumi bred it. Who would thought that she'd have great luck at breeding shinies?"

"If it's an electric type, Ayumi has the advantage." Misty said with certainty.

"Why is Ayumi called Little Miss Merciless, anyway?" Ash asked. For as far as he knew, despite the albino breeder's personality, she was a kind person.

"Would it have to do with her battle style?" Brock questioned as he remembered their gym battle. He'd never expected a fellow breeder would use such a brutal battle style.

"You'll see." Naruto grinned.

Tammie was the first to call the move, "Use Ice Beam to keep that Lanturn under water!"

The Sinnoh native and her Pokemon kept their cool as the arena's surface became frozen in a layer of ice with Lanturn still freely swimming under the water.

"Tammie and her Golduck froze the surface arena! Will Ayumi be able to do something to free herself of will this be a drawn out battle?!"

"I wouldn't want that for a lasting impression." Ayumi muttered out before speaking a little louder so the water/electric type could hesr through the ice, "Shock Wave."

The Light Pokemon instantly did as she was told as she let out a cry as she discharged electricity that made quick work of destroying the ice and using it to her advantage as some of the ice shards flowed with the electrical attack and struck Golduck as well, dealing more damage.

"Golduck, no!" The girl from Vermillion called out as she watched her water type fall over, unconscious.

"Golduck is unable to battle!" The referee declared as he raised Ayumi's red flag.

"Go Poliwrath!" Tammie called out as she called out the water/fighting type and wasted no time in ordering, "Quickly use Belly Drum followed by Circle Throw!"

While the albino breeder once again just waited, Ash and his friends were concerned and curious as to why she kept letting her opponent go first. "Belly Drum strengthens a Pokemon's attack strength at the cost of its stamina and Circle Throw makes Lanturn be switched out with another Pokemon." Brock informed, "Ayumi had better do something or her Lanturn could end up losing."

Naruto chuckled, "She knows what she's doing, Brock. Ayumi's trained all of her Pokemon to surpass even their peak, so I doubt one hit alone could take down her Pokemon."

"Then why does she intend to let it hit?" Ash asked as he refused to take his eyes off from the field.

As the Poliwrath dove into the water, Lanturn, as though knowing what her trainer had planned took the blow easily and controlled herself so to keep from colliding into the pool wall before she was forced to return to her Poke-ball for another Pokemon to take her place. The blond in the stage smirked as he stated, "She wants to have her next Pokemon randomly selected to prove her point."

"What do you mean?" Misty wondered as the audience waited in anticipation for which Pokemon was going to come out.

What came out was something that looked similar to Seadra, to the Kanto locals anyway. Ayumi wasted no time as she ordered, "Dragon Impact."

Kingdra did as he was told after he came out instantly as he cloaked himself in a hue of Dragon Pulse before charging with all of his strength as it was enhanced by both the Dragon Pulse and Giga Impact at the Tadpole Pokemon, sending it soaring clean and high out of the water before coming back down in a booming thud.

"Poliwrath is unable to battle!" The referee announced as the emcee loudly declared.

"Did you see that, folks?! Not a split second after switching for a different Pokemon and Ayumi took down Poliwrath with her Kingdra! It certainly looks like her Pokemon won't leave any open spots! How will Tammie's last Pokemon handle this?!"

"Wonderful job, Kingdra!" Ayumi cheered and praised her water/dragon type.

"How was she able to have her Pokemon attack so quickly?" Ash gaped along with his Pikachu.

"Her Pokemon are really well trained," Brock commented, "Ayumi also trusts that her Pokemon to do their best, no matter which one appears. Definitely formidable."

"But I trust my Pokemon too!" The boy from Pallet protested.

Naruto rose an eyebrow, "Would that include your Charizard?" The blond asked, making the young brunette stiffen, "I haven't seen you use it, and it's probably your strongest Pokemon."

"Ash doesn't need to use Charizard in his matches." Misty proclaimed as she defended her friend, "Besides what you know about training a Charizard?"

"Because I have one, and he certainly doesn't act like yours."

The Pewter City gym leader remembered back to their battle, "So that Charmander of your's evolved, you called it Taiyou, right?"

"Taiyou's doing really well." The Unova native mentioned as he nodded, "He actually evolved into a Charizard back at the S.S. Anne, and he's never went through a behavior change like that, even though he was abandoned too."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means Charizard doesn't respect you, Ash. That says something about you as a trainer."

Back in the field, Tammie knew that she wasn't going to win this, but was one to stop half-way and called out her last Pokemon, "Go, Slowbro! Take the chance and use Focus Blast!"

"Slow..." The Hermit Crab Pokemon did as it was told as it created the attack to launch at the temporarily immobile Kingdra.

As the large orange ball of energy came soaring towards him, Kingdra remained calm as his trainer spoke, "Take it and end the battle with Flash Pulse."

The audience wated with bated breath as Slowbro's attack struck the water/dragon type and made water pillar in the air from the impact before something glinted through the water before it went flying out and revealing that despite the ball of energy was mostly white, it had swirls of purple aura as it was a combined move of Flash Cannon and Dragon Pulse.

The combination attack collided and exploded on impact when it hit the water/psychic type. The match was decided as everyone saw the fainted Slowbro as the referee declared, "Slowbro is unable to battle! Ayumi is the victor!"

As the crowd cheered, the emcee proclaimed, "Well folks, Ayumi has lived up to her name of Little Miss Merciless and won her third round with one move! Even with her Pokemon taking hits, they didn't even break a sweat! Will anyone be able to stop her, or will we get to see her face off against Naruto in the finals like they planned?! Keep watching to find out!"

The blue eyed trainer glanced at Ash as he stated before getting up, "Do you get it now, Ash? It may be our first tournament too, but we won't play around. If you lose in the next few rounds, stick around and watch our battle."

"They're really serious competition, Ash." Misty frowned, "You may not be able to beat either of them if you battle them."

Brock sighed, "We should've kept an eye on them, but just do your best, Ash."

Ash looked down before smiling as he looked up, "Of course I will, Brock! I'll take the League and become a Pokemon Master! Even if Naruto and Ayumi are my rivals now!"

"You were great, Ayumi. I think he really has gotten the picture now." The Unova native congratulated his travelling companion. "All that's left is the fourth round in the water field. I'm going against a guy named Zale. What about you for the mountain field?"

The silverette replied calmly, "Gary Oak, if I remember correctly, he's Ash's rival. Too bad I'll have to beat him so I can face you."

The blond blinked at the albino breeder's commented before laughing, "You know I think you really are starting to live up to your name of Little Miss Merciless!"

Ayumi blushed as she yelled, "Just what about me is merciless?!"

Omake

"Hey Ayumi, did you have any mishaps while you were training?" Naruto asked after he calmed down from his laughing fit.

"Hmm?" The red eyed breeder hummed in confusion.

"You know, like unintentional mistakes while you were training your Pokemon in new moves. You don't have to tell me where you were specifically."

"Mistakes during training..."

Flashback

"Okay Kingdra, let's work on Dragon Impact, shall we?" Ayumi asked as she mostly had her water Pokemon around to train since they were in a lake and the silverette thought it was a perfect place.

Today Ayumi was working with a new combination move with Kingdra while she let the others have a short break to swim around. "Now I want you to focus on your Dragon Pulse, but let it cloak around you like a layer of water."

"Dra." The water/dragon type nodded as he did what he was told, but over shot the amount of strength in the attack and accidentally releasing it and hitting the relaxing Pokemon also in the water.

"Empoleon!"

"Blast!"

"Lan!"

"Milo!"

"What's the big idea, you yellow bellied sea horse?!" Meowth yelled as he voiced the other's irritation before looking around for his trainer that was also in the water just a few seconds ago. "Hey where's Ayumi?"

Empoleon answered that question as he pulled the now swirly eyed girl, the move didn't hurt her, but rather sent her a short distance from where she was before, disorientating her quite a bit. "I-I think that was a little too much, Kingdra... Why don't we take a break..." Ayumi uttered before slumping over.

Jessie, who was back at shore tanning, shook her head, "That's the third time today."

Flashback end

Ayumi chuckled sheepishly, "I don't know what you're talking about, Naruto."

A/N: And that's chapter 16! Naruto and Ayumi are really paving their way and making a statement in the tournament! They've also shown Ash that they were no pushovers in this championship, along with trying to show that Ash really shouldn't get so overconfident when the battle are clearly not over yet.

Ayumi will also finally be facing Gary! You do not know how much I had to keep myself from having her battle him in the very first round in the ice field, but I found that it would be a little better to go by canon for this case. Also please don't mind the names that I give the random characters that battle Naruto and Ayumi, I am bad with names so I just come up with them from the top of my head.

As for the omake, that was from an idea my friend, Hikari Nova offered when I was looking for ways to show my gratitude, and I agreed with her idea of a little snip of how they train, or rather a funny moment of their trainer. Just shows that practice makes perfect.

I'll be foregoing Naruto, Jessie, and James' Pokemon since there really isn't any changes, so I onto what's next!

In the next chapter, we'll have Ayumi facing Gary, along with Ash meeting Ritchie. Naruto's not going to make any of his opponents have an easy time with his intention to win with us now starting to go past the preliminaries and Ayumi won't lose without a fight!

Till next time!
