Chapter 17
"I wonder who's going to win, Gary or Ayumi?" Ash wondered as he and his friends along with Naruto took their seats to watch the battle between the two.
"I don't know, they're both pretty good trainers." Brock replied before turning to Naruto, "Who do you think would win?"
The blond chuckled, "I'll be a little biased, but I know that Ayumi will win."
"You may have lasted as you have until now, but I, the best trainer from Pallet, Gary Oak, will beat you!" The brunette declared with Ayumi and Meowth yawning.
"Are you ready? We're here to battle, not talk."
Gary smirked, "Fine then, don't say I didn't warn you. Go Arcanine!"
The silverette eyed the fire type before calling out her Pokemon, "Let's warn everyone of our strength, Absol!"
As the white furred dark type appeared, Ash and his friend shivered at the sight, "What is that Pokemon? It's scary."
"That's an Absol, the Disaster Pokemon. It's a dark type that's said to only appear to warn someone of a calamity." The Unova native informed as he smirked, "For a fairly straightforward battle style, she's certainly poetic."
"We'll keep everything short, Absol. Psycho Sucker Punch." Ayumi stated with Absol doing as he was told as he bounded over to the fire type that was almost twice his size, but nowhere near the size of his comrade that was the same species, and leapt to jab at Arcanine's face twice as quickly as he could with Sucker Punch before slapping him with his tail to send him flying into the boulder with a Psycho Cut.
"Arcanine!" Gary called out, stunned. He'd barely heard let alone saw what happened, and now he was down one Pokemon.
"Arcanine is unable to battle! Will the green trainer call out his next Pokemon?" The referee announced.
The brunette recalled his Pokemon to let out his next one, "Go, Fearow!"
As the normal flying type came out with a fierce caw, the albino breeder smirked, "Aerial battle, huh? I can play that game too. Let's let the others have a turn, Absol. Show them what you can do, Altaria!"
As the dragon/flying type emerged with a trill of her name, the audience were captivated by the Humming Pokemon's beauty. Naruto grinned out at how likely well trained his traveling companion's Pokemon was; this was getting him more pumped to battle Ayumi in the finals.
"Fearow, Steel Wing!"
"Moonblast." Gary's Pokemon had no chance of closing in on the Altaria as she launched the massive attack that burst and hit Fearow with a shock wave on pure energy, sending it plummeting down.
After it crashed down, the referee checked to see that the Beak Pokemon had fainted. "Fearow is unable to battle!"
"We're nearly at the end of our ropes here, folks! Ayumi has taken down two of Gary's Pokemon, without a sweat! Will Gary's last Pokemon have a chance against Little Miss Merciless?!"
At the moment, said brunette was regretting his choice of Pokemon, but he would still try. "Go, Nidoking!"
"Wonderful job, Altaria. Show him a real Nidoking." The silverette called out as she switched her Pokemon to have two Nidoking on the field.
"They both look tough." Ash commented as he looked back and forth between the two.
"Ayumi's Nidoking is larger though, and you can tell that it has more battle experience." Brock analyzed. "Gary may not be able to win."
Naruto nodded, "Nidoking is her first Pokemon, I doubt he'd look bad for his trainer."
"Nidoking, let's wrap everything up with our special combo!" Ayumi called out with her Drill Pokemon immediately doing as he was ordered, using Surf as he roared and effectively swept his opponent in the water.
"Nidoking!" Gary called out, but the albino's Nidoking wasn't finished as he made the wave spiral into a twister before leaping into the and freezing the wave and the Nidoking inside with an Ice Beam, and ending it all as he used Earthquake with a slam of his tail as he landed back onto the ground, destroying the frozen pillar and making his opponent crash down with ice falling onto it.
"Gary's Nidoking is unable to battle! Ayumi is the victor!" The referee declared.
There was a brief moment of silence before the crowd cheered madly with the emcee yelling, "What a match, folks! Ayumi's once again taken down her opponent! Not even Pallet Town's Gary Oak could even try to stop Little Miss Merciless! From the danger warning Absol, to the beautiful Altaria, and finally her fearsome Nidoking, this trainer is going to be a grand challenge to beat, but maybe we'll be able to see that final battle between her and her equally powerful rival, Naruto! Stay tuned and we'll see his match in the water field!"
"You were great as always, Nidoking! You're the best!" Ayumi cheered as the large Pokemon roared happily and carried her. She then turned to Gary, who was stunned at his one-sided loss, and spoke. "Your Pokemon are well trained, I'll admit, but don't let your ego hold back their strength." With that, Nidoking carried his trainer and Meowth out of the stadium.
"I can't believe Gary lost..." Ash uttered in shock.
"The competition here are really tough, Ash." Misty stated as she glanced at Naruto. "Naruto and Ayumi will be incredibly hard to beat."
The blond smirked as he stood, "Thanks for the praise, Misty. I'll be heading off now, my match won't be too long."
"Good luck in your next match, Naruto." Brock said with the Unova native waving as he walked away to catch up to his silver haired companion.
"Really?! Everyone has been watching my matches? I'm doing great, Kazuki, and I'll keep giving it my all!" The blond spotted Ayumi talking on the Holo-Caster with a brunette, probably Kazuki.
"That's good to hear. I must say, you've made quite a reputation, to be called Little Miss Merciless." Kazuki chuckled, "Your father doesn't like it, but it suits your battling style. In any case, everyone wishes you the best of luck!"
"Thanks Kazuki! Bye!" The silverette waved before ending the call and noticing Naruto. "Oh, hey Naruto."
"Hey, Ayumi. Congrats on your match." The Unova native congratulated, "You really made quick work."
"Of course, I'll keep going with all my might." Ayumi remarked, "I know you're doing the same, good luck in your match."
Naruto grinned as the two high-fived, "I won't keep you waiting."
"We're here at the water field, things will be coming to a boil here with the powerful and graceful Naruto Uzumaki-Namikaze on stage! Will Zale have a chance, or will he be one of the trainers that have lost to Naruto?!"
"I haven't made it far enough to lose yet! Go Pidgeot!"
"Show your beauty, Milotic!"
Zale wasn't intending for the battle to end as quickly as the others as he called out, "Pidgeot, Whirlwind!"
Naruto paid no mind as his Pokemon was forced to switch out, since he'd already thought ahead, in case something like this came up.
"Laa~" Pidgeot had completely no time to react as Lapras used Blizzard as soon as she was out of her ball, freezing the normal/flying type solid.
"Pidgeot is unable to battle! Lapras wins!"
"It looks like Zale's plan backfired with Lapras's quick-draw attack! Will Zale have a chance to beat Naruto?!"
"Go, Tentacruel! Use Poison Jab!" The Jellfish Pokemon did as it was ordered once it submerged itself, ready to give a toxic blow with its tentacle.
"Redirect with Psychic." Lapras's eyes glowed blue as she forced the attack back to sender, powering with Psychic, and sending the Tentacruel flying out of the tank.
"Tentacruel is unable to battle!"
Zale scowled as he had to recall his second Pokemon, but smirked, "You may have beaten my first two Pokemon, but you don't have a chance now! Go, Electabuzz!"
As the electric type was called out, Naruto was still calm as he switched out his Lapras, "You did fantastic, Lapras. Let's put an end to this, Garchomp."
"Naruto really isn't pulling any breaks for Zale! Garchomp has an advantage against Electabuzz, so does that mean that this round is as good as over?!" The emcee declared, admittedly glad that he'd purchased books on Pokemon outside of Kanto for trainers like Naruto and Ayumi.
"Bulldoze."
With that single order, Garchomp soared before charging at Electabuzz with high speed, slamming the Electric Pokemon into the stadium wall as it slumped in unconsciousness.
"Electabuzz is unable to battle! Naruto is the winner!"
"Naruto has once again pulled through with a win! He is now one of the trainers making way into the top 16 battles! Along with Ayumi and a few other trainers, things will be heating up!"
"You did great, Garchomp!" The Unova native praised as the Mach Pokemon roared happily before she was recalled, and the blond headed off to the Pokemon Center and meet up with Ayumi before he gets stopped by a reporter.
"Congrats, Naruto!" The albino breeder congratulated as the two high-fived. "Three more battles, and it'll be the two of us going neck and neck at the finals."
"Definitely. We'll go so all out that we'll make the whole stadium tremble." Naruto grinned.
"I finally get to battle!" Rhapsody cheered with the blond chuckling as he patted his first Pokemon on the head.
"Battling here would be a piece of cake for Meowth, but I don't want to act like I can't talk." The Scratch Cat Pokemon yawned as the silverette scratched him behind the ear.
"Honey!"
"Ayumi!"
The two young trainers blinked as they heard the familiar voices, but beamed when they saw who the sources of the voices were.
"Mom! Dad!"
"Kazuki!"
"We promised that we would come as soon as we could, honey." Kushina smiled as she hugged her son.
"Great job moving past the preliminaries, son. You always make us so proud." Minato grinned with pride as he ruffled the younger blonde's hair.
"Thanks, Mom. Dad."
"I didn't know you were coming. Why didn't you tell me while we were talking?"
"Sorry about that, Ayumi. Your father demanded that at least someone is there to be by his precious daughter's side, and he would've come himself if he wasn't so busy." Kazuki chuckled, "But I'll still be able to help with swapping out, like holding onto your Meowth if you want for a while during your matches."
Ayumi grinned, "You're the best, Kazuki."
"Well enough talk, why don't we all celebrate a little? Our new young trainers have made it so far in their first year training on their own!" Kushina suggested happily, wanting nothing more than to spend time with her son.
"I take it you're well aware of how things will be going, son?" Minato asked as he and his family were all enjoying their ramen.
"It'll be a full battle now, but I'll keep going all the way with power, grace, and strategy." Naruto grinned after slurping up his noodles before his mother hugged him joyfully.
"That's my boy! Minato, why don't we give him something special after the tournament?"
The older blond blinked before grinning, "I don't see why not, but it would take some time for it to be prepared."
"That's why I planned ahead without telling you! It'll still take time, but it'll arrive when Naruto's ready to head for Johto!"
"Mom, you really don't have to give me anything!" Naruto protested, but knew that his mother wouldn't take no for an answer once she decided something.
Proving his point, "Nonsense! My son only deserves the best! I've even had my own fashion brand open for coordinators recently, and you'll be the first to recieve anything."
"That's great, Mom!"
The fire and water type specialist puffed up her chest proudly at her son's praise, "Of course, your mom can do anything as she puts her mind to it! I already have models lining up, but I'll always have space for you and your friend."
"You know that Ayumi isn't interested in that kind of thing, Mom." Naruto thought back to the princess contest with Ayumi pretending to be a guy to avoid participating. Yeah... really low chances.
"Oh come now, she'll have some interest when she gets older. I'm sure she'll grow up even prettier, wouldn't you think so too, honey?"
"H-huh?"
Meanwhile with Ayumi
"Achoo!"
"Someone must be talking about you." Kazuki commented as the silverette rubbed her nose.
Shaking her head, Ayumi focused on her task at hand. "I'll worry about that later, right now let's set up my team for tomorrow's match. Have to be ready for anything."
The brunette sweat dropped, "She hasn't changed; Pokemon always on the mind. Well, at least she's made good friends and came far on her own."
Next morning
"Congratulations on passing the preliminaries. Your opponents for the first round are posted on this board."
"Thanks." The two foreign trainers thanked before scanning for their picture to see who they were facing against.
Naruto spotted his photo placed at the far left, next to a tomboyish looking girl with short black hair. "It says her name is Alissa. I'm ready for anything." The Unova native grinned.
Ayumi spotted her photo as well, placed at the far right, facing a meek looking girl by the name of Emi. "I'm hoping for a great battle." The albino breeder smirked.
"Meet you at the top."
"Definitely."
The two grinned at each other before they heard a shocked utter, "No way..."
Turning, they saw Ash staring at the board in shock, with who the two could guess was his friend who had his face just as stunned. They glanced at the board to see that the two boys were facing each other. "Looks like Ash is battling his friend."
A/N: That's chapter 17! This chapter was short, but this is essentially bringing the preliminaries to a close, so I couldn't really make it any longer. That and my fight scene writer's block came back.
I'm sure you all know what Kushina is implying that will be given to Naruto, and what Ayumi will be getting from her cousin in Hoenn for when they'll be heading to Johto!
That brings up my announcement! I am in search for a cover page for this story!
I would like someone to draw Naruto and Ayumi-teen aged please- next to each other with their mega items. Naruto's mega item can be of your own choice, but please remain conscious that he would also wear/have it in contests as well, along with whatever title you would like to give it.
As for Ayumi, I am looking for it to be designed as a long red ribbon that she would wear in her hair, wrapping around and tying at the end with the key stone placed where the knot is, with her's being known as the Mega Ribbon.
I have played the Pokemon OR/AS special demo, and I have a spare code! So along with whoever that I have chosen to be the cover page receiving full credit, I will also give them the code via PM.
Please send me the links to your art through PM, and also tell me the name of Naruto's mega item.
