Chapter 24: Jenny ''Jab'

It was past noon when Sabrina had finally finished class. She picked up her things and locked the classroom door. It was quiet and she felt worn out. She had another fight that night, moving up the tournament. Both Kelly and Kris would be there this time so she had to keep in mind not to make a mess out of it like last time. She had let herself get carried away and caused unnescessarry harm to someone who wasn't guilty of something.

Just as she was walking back to her room she heard loud voices coming just around the corner. She looked around but nobody else was there, everybody was downstairs for lunch. She stood and listened.

''You are a damn Aryan! You're one of them!'' a female voice said. Sabrina couldn't recognise it, probably another student.

''Back off will you?!'' the other voice protested. Crap. It was Kris.

She heard a sharp sound, a slap. From the startled yelp she realised it was Kris on the receiving end of it. She walked around the corner and found her holding her cheek, while another girl was leaning over her. ''You're a damn killer!'' She yelled again and reached for Kris, settling her hands around her neck before the blond was able to react.

For a split second Sabrina froze, but then she was behind the woman -who was still oblivious to her presence, since she had her back at her- and snaked her arms underneath the other woman's. She brought her palms up, grabbed the back of the strangers neck and pushed her own elbows up using them as a lever against her neck, forcing the other woman's arms in the air and away from Kris' throat. She took a large step back, dragging woman with her, arms trapped in the air, useless.

''This is enough!'' Sabrina shouted at her, as she tried to escape and forced Sabrina's back to slam on the wall behind her.

The angel brought her right foot in front of the woman's left, rotating her own body and pushing her forward. She fell on the floor, along with her and maintained her hold.

''What the hell is going on here?!'' She dared a brief look to Kris to make sure she was okay.

''She's a killer! She's one of them!'' the woman underneath her shrieked as Sabrina kept a knee on her back to keep her still. ''She is a killer! She killed those girls! They're crazy!'' She tried to launch her elbow backwards to find Sabrina's face but the brunette quickly dodged it. ''Get off me!''

Sabrina eased her hold. ''I'm gonna let you go, but don't try anything, just stay on the floor, understood?''

''Okay, okay just let go off me, I can't breathe!''

The angel took her knee away and slowly released her. She got up and walked to Kris.

''You okay?''

Her blue eyes were darting around the windowless corridor, her face wild with fear. She had been caught off guard. ''Yeah...'' She massaged her throat lightly.

''Now, what the hell is going on? Who are you?'' She asked the woman that was still trying to get off the floor and she offered her a hand to get up. For the first time she saw her face. She was one of the student's in the sociology class, she remembered.

''I saw her last night with the Aryans!'' she kept yelling at Sabrina. Her lower lip was bleeding from being slammed on the floor. Sabrina approached her and fished a tissue from her pocket.

''Wipe your face.'' She said quietly. ''It's not our business what this girl...-'' She casted a quick glance at the blond.

''Kris, Kris McDonald...'' Kris muttered her cover name, still unsteady.

''It's not our business what Kris does. I might not like it but it's her choice.'' Sabrina put her hand on the stranger's shoulders. ''How about me and you go grab a cup of coffee downstairs and talk about it.'' She sneaked another look at Kris and mouthed: ''Be careful.''

''And now, fighting for a place in the quarter finals, welcome Jenny ''The Jab'' ladies and gentlemen!''

This time the applause made Sabrina's ears ring with anxiety. Jenny was of average height, slender built and had her red hair up in a ponytail. She looked like a calm and collected opponent but she lacked a certain... Sabrina looked for the word. Fierceness. She seemed out of place in a ring. She quietly put her gloves on and assumed a fighting stance. Most martial arts come from Asia where the average height is significantly less than Europe and America, hence the low crouch that is the starting stance for martial arts such as Judo or Tae Kwon Do made her knees hurt. She felt better just standing with her knees slightly bent.

Jenny actually smiled at her and gave her a karate bow keeping arms and hands pressed against her sides and open. Sabrina mirrored the bow. In MMA most fighters had a main martial art and then supplemented it with others. Seemed like Jenny's main technique was karate. They nodded at each other and then the bell rang.

She wasn't named ''The Jab'' for nothing after all. She came at her with front jabs, forcing her to back off into the corner and feel the ropes in her back before she realised it. She didn't have time to sidestep the next punch and she was too startled that she ran out of space to block it. It caught the side of her mouth and she felt her lip crack. Aw, shit.

Blood spilled all over the front of her white T-shirt and barely managed to block the next blow that was aimed at her stomach. Jenny had her opponent cornered but the only problem was that in order to deliver blows with her hands she had closed the distance between and she was dangerously too close. The distance was small enough for Sabrina to cover leaning forward and thrusting her knee up to Jenny's jaw. Jenny stepped back and Sabrina pushed away from the corner.

Sabrina brushed the back of her glove over her lip and it came away bloodied.

Damn, why do split lips bleed like this?!

Jenny smiled again, without saying a word. Small drops were staining the front of her shirt as well, she had bit her lip when Sabrina kneed her jaw. She should be happy it wasn't her tongue, the angel thought to herself. Well, if Jenny was a punch-er Sabrina herself was a kicker. Longer legs do have their benefits. Besides, she wasn't comfortable moving her arms too much, not with bandages over her chest and shoulder. She lightly jumped, and rotated her hips first, then her whole body 360 degrees, bringing her knee up and then stretching her right leg, striking with a backwards hook kick. Jenny got some of it on her block but the rest slammed against the side of her face and she went down.

Sabrina didn't have time to reach down to her and get her with a submission hold. Jenny only dropped to her knees and was quickly able to get her feet under her, launching herself forward. She head slammed on Sabrina's stomach, while her arms went around her as if hugging her. She forced her to lose her balance and hit the floor with her back. With the wind knocked out of her, the first thing Sabrina did was take in a deep breath. This slowed her down from making the next block and Jenny's next right blow got her straight on the jaw, as she straddled her. It did look an awkward position to be in but it was mostly painful at the moment. Sabrina quickly got her forearms up, covering her face and keeping Jenny from hitting her jaw again. She knew that if she tried punch her chest of stomach she would lose her balance so she would just keep hitting her face until she passed out or conceded a submission. Well, not today hun, Sabrina thought. She had made the mistake to straddle her higher than she was supposed to be and not stay low on her hips or stomach.

Awkward as it was she lifted her knees up, right outside Jenny's sides and got her shoes on her shoulders. She then pushed back, while at the same time making a motion with her whole body as if performing a sit-up. She got Jenny off balance and with the back on the floor, right where she wanted her. But she wasn't going to do the same mistake she had. She got her body off the floor, keeping one knee pressed on Jenny's stomach and one foot touching the floor only with the tip, while she tried get her forearm over her neck but Jenny kicked up and Sabrina rolled on the floor again. She had this incredulous feeling like a pig rolling in the mud only not half as happy.

But then Jenny made another mistake, partly because of her eagerness to get off the floor. She rolled on her side, turning her back at Sabrina who was still lying down, leaving herself completely open. Sabrina grabbed the opportunity and got her arm over her neck, pulling her back down whilst trapping her in a choke hold as if she was hugging her from behind, pressing her back against her chest. She lay on her back with Jenny struggling against the forearm under her chin. She finally tapped the floor and conceded a submission.

Sabrina let go and they lay panting on the floor, pulling away from each other.

''Damn it girl, don't you ever give up?'' she half laughed.

Jenny smiled. ''At least I don't have to worry about facing the Aryan later on now.''

''Well said.''

Sabrina got up and lifted her fist up for the crowd. She looked around to find Kris and Kelly but only saw Hope and Alice in the back. The other angels were probably somewhere in the back but it was hard to see with all these people in there. She realised it was going to be a long long night.
