Escape Chapter 22: Chuunin Exams: First Exam, a naruto fanfic

A/N Hello fellow Members and Visitors alike! This 9tailsfox2 and you are reading Chapter 22 for Escape! Like I said I have a poll up, explanation being at the end. Italics means thoughts and words on paper.

Everyone was silent from the sudden appearance of the Jonin, who stood there smirking. I t was a long while before someone spoke up. "So, when are we going to start the Exam?"

Ibiki laughed rather insanely, which unnerved quite a few of the gennin. "Well, the first part of the Exam is a written open ended test."

There were a lot of groans until Ibiki roared at the top of his lungs, "SILENCE!" When the room was quiet again Ibiki continued his speech. "There are two test papers you can choose from. The first is your standard everyday academy test, with appropriate challenging questions of course. It is scored regularly and obtaining enough points allows a pass. The second test is a personality test. Basically questions what you would do in certain situations. You get the same amount of questions and the only requirement to pass is to answer all the questions as it is just a personality test, right? Well come on up and choose your tests, but remember, you can't change your test as soon as it begins. No cheating either, we will be watching. Alright you may choose your tests now and pick a number from this box, and then umber you get is where you will be sitting."

When everyone went to get up, they all went for the same test, the personality test, but when Naruto walked up, he was really hesitant. Why the only requirement to pass the personality test is to answer all the questions? Ugh, I've never done so well on written tests before, so whatever is on the personality test; it is probably preferable to having little to no chance of passing on the regular test. With that thought Naruto picked up the personality test and took a number from the box and sat down and waited everyone to collect their tests.

Naruto then saw Hanabi sit down right next to him. "Hey…"

Hanabi looked up and put her chin on the desk. "Hi…"

Naruto sighed as he put his hand on his forehead, where the invisible seal was located. "I hate these seals so much." Naruto then felt his chest tighten. Fuck you Jiji. I fucking hate you so much. "Sooooo, which test did you choose?"

Hanabi avoided eye contact with Naruto, for fear of seeing the pain in his eyes. "I would have chosen the written, but the personality test seems a bit easier, well requirement wise…"

Naruto nodded. "Yeah."

Hanabi could not resist looking into the eyes of the love of her life and instantly her emotions dipped even further than they already did. Ruto-Kun… I want to hold you again…

Naruto felt tears swell in his eyes when he saw the pain behind Hanabi's eyes. "Hanabi I…" I want you with me.

Hanabi frowned at that. "You what?"

Naruto inched his hand towards Hanabi's. "I…"

Hanabi shook her head as her voice cracked. "Sorry Naruto… you know we can't…" As much as she wanted to give, she knew what would happen if they both did, but her will was on the teetering edge right now.

Naruto groaned as he gave up and they both broke eye contact, to stop further risking anything that resembled intimacy. "I-I know… I'm going to…"

Hanabi shook her head. "You know we can't speak of that either or what we want to do about it…"

Naruto's fist tightened as the pencils were passed out. "I-I know…" I'm going to kill Jiji for separating me and Hanabi.

Hanabi sighed as she lied her head down again. I want to tell you it wasn't the Third Hokage so bad.

Both and Hanabi were startled out of their stupor as Ibiki roared out his signal. "BEGIN!"

With that, everyone began their test.

1. You are at your house with your little sister, father and mother. Suddenly you all were attacked and knocked out. When you wake up, you do not know where you are and then you notice that your family is being held hostage. They tell you that you and one other can live, if you kill the other two. If you are unable to choose who lives and who dies, only you will live. You are handed a kunai and you know that you cannot fight back. What do you do?

Naruto's eyes widened at the question and jumped when someone shouted. "WHAT THE FUCK!? HOW DO YOU EXPECT US TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS!?"

Naruto looked up and Ibiki smirked. "Life sometimes throws unexpected shit at you at every turn. I would like you all to know that each and every one of these question are actually based on a situation that has happened before, most of which actually happened real people during times of war. We have forgotten what is was really like during times of war, the purpose of this test is to show how you are able to cope with such situations."

Naruto looked down and shook his head. He had no father and no mother, but this was a question with a rhetorical family. Naruto knew he could not bring himself to kill his own family, if he had one but he also could not give up so offing himself was not an option either. Naruto began writing. I will raise the kunai against the enemy and fight as hard as possible for the lives of my family, despite knowing that the odds are highly stacked against me.

Naruto nodded as he moved onto the next question.

2. Your significant other has been trapped and it is impossible to help her as you yourself are apprehended. Both of you hold the same vital information. You are the only one hold one kunai in hand, a kunai that will save you or your significant other from immense pain when the enemy nin arrive in one minute. You have no other weapons on your body or near you. This is your only option to escape. Who do you kill or rather save from being tortured, or do you not kill at all?

Naruto's hands began shaking as he looked at Hanabi, who also looked at him. What the fuck? I am not one to give up; I know I cannot escape from the trap. "Hanabi…"

Hanabi shook her head. "This… this test is messed up."

Naruto nodded. "I'm only on the second question and… and I don't want to kill you nor let you get tortured mercilessly."

Hanabi groaned. "Naruto… if there were ever a situation like that… I would want you to kill me. I'd much rather have you go through the pain of getting tortured by yourself, than going through the pain of seeing me get tortured."

Naruto shook his head. "But I would have killed you by my hand… You know what, we should stick it out with each other, and we will draw strength from each other, refusing to give up the information until we die or get rescued or even escape."

Hanabi nodded. "Yeah, I like that." All of a sudden they felt a tingle in their foreheads, reminding them of what would happen if they go any further than that.

Naruto and Hanabi sadly looked at each other with want. "L-Let's continue this test."

Hanabi agreed. "Yeah."

3. You are in a three man squad and enemies takes hostage one of your team mates and tells you to kill your other team mate or the hostage dies. You have lost the fight and you are surrounded by enemy nin. He will let you go along with the surviving member, as remembrance of the decision you make. What is your decision?

Naruto sighed. If I really had to choose who would survive in that situation, I would choose Hanabi to live as she is the love of my life, but chances are if I had to turn my kunai onto Sasuke, I would be unable to unless they are about to go through with the threat.

Naruto looked guiltily at his answer, it was the truth, but knew he would be giving up at that point.

Suddenly someone jumped up. "Alright what the fuck is up with number four!? I refuse to answer that question!"

Ibiki smirked. "You have failed a simple requirement of the test and therefore you have failed, along with your team mates."

Two others jumped up. "What!?"

Ibiki began laughing sadistically. "I forgot to mention, if you fail, your team mates also fail. If these questions are too hard for you to answer, then maybe you should have picked the other test."

Suddenly there were panicked looks shot at each person's respective team mates.

Naruto apprehensively looked at question four as someone puked and three people fainted, probably from stress. "Well they were all on the same team, it would have only been one team, but unfortunately they weren't. Teams 34, 98 and 76, all of which from Konoha, because each of your team mates were incapacitated, they are unable to finish the test and therefore you all fail.

The panicking then began as shouts and head banging against the desks were sounded. Naruto did not look past the number four until 30 teams were eliminated from the commotion. "You all have 30 minutes left!"

Naruto's eyes widened. Oh shit I only answered three questions!

Naruto heard a soothing voice next to him, which really helped. "It's ok Naruto I didn't even look at four yet either."

Naruto nodded. "Alright let's do it on a count of three."

Hanabi nodded. "Yeah."

Naruto took a deep breath. "One, two, three."

4. You are married and you have a 5 year old daughter. You come home from a mission to see that enemy nin have broken into your house and knock you out. When you wake up you find out you are overdosed with an aphrodisiac, to the point where you are barely unable to move and then they rape your spouse in front of you and then they tell you to rape or kill your own daughter, or your spouse will die. What do you do?

Naruto now understood the panic. "Wh-What kind of human being would be able to answer this?"

Hanabi began having her tears fall. "N-No… What the hell?"

Naruto's eyes flared. "The aphrodisiac probably strongly forces your mind one way to make a certain decision."

Hanabi nodded. "I would rather kill myself than do any of those things."

Naruto nodded in agreement. "Yeah." Six more questions to go.

5. You find out that your significant other that he/she are giving vital information to enemy nin. You know that under law, that automatically calls for the death penalty. Do you turn him/her in or do you live the hard life as a rogue nin?

Naruto sighed as he whispered to Hanabi again. "This is a question of loyalty."

Hanabi nodded. "I'm going to lie and say that I will turn you in."

Naruto shook his head. "No don't. Remember Kakashi's trash rule?"

Hanabi's eyes widened. "Yeah…"

6. You and your significant other are on a two man team to escort a man with information so vial, it will end the war bloody war going on around you. You get caught and trapped, but you escape only to find out you all have been poisoned, but only have enough antidote to cure two of the three. Only you remember how to get back to your own village, but if you have to explain you only have enough time to make one antidote What do you do?

Naruto groaned. The fuck!? The first antidote should be obvious and go to the client, the other choice is to explain how to get back or make a second antidote. So basically cure me, Nabi-Chan, or explain to the client how to get back, who could easily get captured. Well I'd rather have Nabi-Chan survive than me, but then she will be lost, unable to get back… fuck!

Hanabi giggled. "Isn't it obvious?"

Naruto shook his head. Hanabi showed him the answer as Naruto smirked as he wrote it down, lucky to not be caught. "You are so brilliant Hanabi."

7. As you are traveling back from a mission from an enemy village, 9 year old girl is found as a stowaway. You recognize her as the girl you rescued from being beaten into the ground by ninja and civilians. You claim her innocence, but that is quickly turned down as one of your team mates claims that she is being used for infiltration. The squad leader confirms that the village has been notorious for using children for espionage and orders for her to be off the carriage. You defend her further still, knowing that she is in fact innocent. Your squad leader then tells you to kick her out yourself or leave the group with her. You know that if you do get off with her, you will be unable to return to your own village, nor the village you just came from. The two of you would be considered rogue. If you do let her go, the walk to the closest village is a week away, so the girl will be unable to survive. What would you do?

Naruto sighed. What the hell is wrong with these questions!? Has these situations actually happened before?

Naruto shook his, fully knowing what abuse from the villagers was like and so the answer was easy for him. I would go with the girl end of story. Innocent or not, I cannot in good conscious let the girl go on her own to try and survive.

Naruto heard Hanabi whisper under her breath the number 8.

Ibiki then shouted out, "TEN MINUTES LEFT!"

Naruto jumped and looked around and realized that while he was concentrating he did not realize that other teams were dismissed. Wait ten minutes!? I have three questions left!

8. You have been captured by the enemy and are told two things, one is that can live without a stomach and two you can live without your genitals. What do you choose to lose?

Someone puked at that very moment. "Nu-Number eight… Wh-What the fuck."

Hanabi looked worriedly at Naruto as she scribbled down her answer. There are medical facilities that hold organs that could still be used I'm thinking there are more stomachs than genitals…

Naruto looked at Hanabi. "What did you put your answer down for number eight?"

Hanabi's breath was heavy and it was clear that she was barely holding her tears in. "Th-The stomach. Medical facilities hold more stomachs than… you know."

Naruto nodded. "My exact thoughts."

9. You hold the key to the prison of an S-Ranked criminal and the right-hand man to that S-Rank demands the key from you, in exchange, your significant other does not die a painful death in front of you and you and your family will not feel the wrath of the S-Rank, regardless of whether you join them or not. You know that the right hand man would not make such a deal without the permission of the S-Rank and that the S-Rank is a man of his word. What do you do?

Naruto once again looked at Hanabi and smiled. "I will always choose you over-"

Hanabi shook her head. "No, let me die, protect the key at all times. You don't want the bastard to escape."

Naruto nodded. I will shake on the deal, unless my significant other wishes to die for the key.

Hanabi looked at the answer. Satisfied they both moved onto the next question.

Ibiki shouted. "ONE MINUTE!"

Naruto dove into the last question.

10. It is a requirement for there to be a vote among the teammates. The one with the most votes fail, should it end in a tie, everyone fails. You cannot vote yourself out. Cast your vote now.

Hanabi shook her head as she immediately knew what was wrong with the question and whispered to Naruto, who nodded and they both quickly wrote down their answers as the time ran out just in time. "TIME'S UP!"

Everyone put down their pencils as the tests were all collected. "Just so you know the other test was easier than the one you all chose."

Everyone groaned. "But, we will look at all the questions, especially number 10. For those of whom who did vote out a team mate automatically fail and as such the rest of the team failed. Naruto looked at Hanabi and they knew what the other was thinking. What did Sasuke put?

Ibiki sighed. "Take an hour break as we look these over. If you are not back with the hour, you and your team will automatically fail."

One of the guys spoke up. "But you said the requirement was to simply answer all the questions."

Ibiki smirked. "I did say that but that was a cover up so you could tell the truth so we could see where your true loyalties lie. Should I find your answers and your team mates' answers satisfactory, then you pass. Rest your brains, stretch your legs, you all must be so tired."

With that, Ibiki shunshined out the room.

Naruto nodded. He did need a walk. Hanabi went up right next to him as they headed for the park and his forehead began tingling again. "Hanabi, you know we can't…"

Hanabi nodded. "I know… take my hand, I want to see how far we can go without triggering the seal."

Naruto gulped as he took Hanabi's hand, the tingling was getting strong, but the comfort he received from even holding Hanabi's hand was strongly overpowering that. "Hanabi… I… I'm so sorry."

Hanabi looked up. "What are you so sorry for?"

Naruto. "I want to say it, but I can't." I want to hold you and never let go, I want to hold you so close to me, that we could feel each other's hearts beating. I want to say 'I love you Nabi-Chan.' I really do.

Hanabi nodded. I hate this so much! "Well, after… after we are able to, we can talk about it."

Naruto nodded. "Are you upset because of the test? Want to talk about it?"

Hanabi sadly sighed as they sat down on a bench. "Those questions. Was it really like that during the war? Were humans really that disgusting?"

Naruto looked at Hanabi. "While some people are honorable and won't use such scare tactics to win, others will probably go even lower than that. It's just how people think. I know it's disgusting on how people operate. As much humans are capable of so much good, they are just as capable of just as much evil."

Hanabi nodded. "Nice quote."

Naruto sadly smiled. "Thanks I came up with it myself."

Silence filled between the two as they sat there holding hands, wishing to do more, but more than content to have found out that they were able to have any type of physical contact, better than none actually. Hanabi fell asleep, which made Naruto smile.

After a while, Naruto knew it was time to leave. He decided to try and pick up Hanabi bridal style, but was unable as his seal gave him a warning shock. Guess we can only hold hands.

Naruto shook Hanabi awake, who yawned and smiled. Hanabi, still half asleep accidently let slip something she wasn't supposed to say. "Ruto-Kun…" With that Hanabi was shocked awake. "Oh Kami!"

Naruto sadly looked at Hanabi, who was shocked for ten seconds. "I'm so sorry Hanabi…"

Hanabi shook her head. "It's not your fault…"

Naruto smiled as he took her hand and led her back to the academy. "I know, and thanks."

The way back was silent and found out that they arrived in the nick of time and was relieved that Sasuke has made it back as well.

Ibiki smirked as he began listing teams and whether or not they have passed or failed. "Team 4 of Suna passed. Team 37 of Kumo failed. Team 7 of Konoha…" Naruto, Hanabi and Sasuke quickly looked up and waited for their results. "Passed."

All three breathed a sigh of relief as they all looked at each other and began laughing as the teams that failed left then all of a sudden a woman jumped in through the window with a smirk. "Alright maggots, Listen up! I am your proctor for the second exam, Anko Mitarashi! You are all to meet at training ground 44, aka The Forest of Death at 9 am tomorrow!"

There was a shiver throughout the entire room. One gennin managed to stutter. "Y-You just s-said f-forty f-f-four?"

Anko smirked. "That's right, and if you all are too scared all because of a name, or more like because of a number, then you might as well hand over those headbands…"

There still murmurs of doubt. Anko laughed. "Wow, this batch of gennin are a bunch of pussies!"

That got on a lot of peoples nerves, one even attacked Anko, who easily disarmed him. "Team 2 of Kumo failed."

The other two teammates began yelling at the kid who attacked as they left the room. "Just so we are clear, Training Grounds 44 tomorrow 9 am sharp. If you are late, you fail! On a side note, get a good night's rest, you will need it! You all are dismissed!"

Naruto looked at his teammates and smiled. "So everyone up for some ramen?"

Hanabi slowly nodded and Sasuke slowly shook his head. "I would, but this recent test has got me thinking… sorry, maybe next time…"

Sasuke began ranting in his own head. Nothing is more important than family… and my brother. He just tore all that away! That test was nothing more than cruel reminder of what he did… Dammit, I'm not going after revenge! But I want to kill him so bad right now. What was that? That bastard took everything away from me, and I am going to kill him. Sasuke shook his head. No I'm not going to go after my brother and kill him. Kill him. Don't kill him. Kill. Don't kill. Kill! Don't kill! KILL!Sasuke grabbed his head and ran back home, trying to get his thoughts straight.

Naruto looked at Hanabi as Sasuke began walking away. "So you do want ramen?"

Hanabi looked and sadly smiled. "I may have a lot on my mind… something about…" Hanabi point her finger at Naruto.

Naruto nodded. "Something about me?"

Hanabi nodded in confirmation. "That calms me down, especially if we are in contact… even if it's…" Hanabi grabbed Naruto's hand and sadly smiled.

The seal was on the verge of fully activating, but neither of them cared, they were holding each other, even if it was just hands…

Naruto and Hanabi slowly made their way to the ramen stand, enjoying their moment together, though wishing that they were in each other's arms at the moment.

Naruto and Hanabi sat down next to each other and met with Teuchi. "Oh, you two are back together now?"

Naruto and Hanabi looked up. "We… We're slowly working our way back up… Listen we just went through the first exam and the questions on the test were… messed up. Would you be so kind to let us process our thoughts… we would like our regulars."

Teuchi nodded. "Alright coming right up."

Hanabi looked around. "Excuse me, but I can't help but notice that Ayame-Chan isn't here."

Teuchi sighed. "Yeah, she's sick, I made her stay home."

Naruto gave a small smile. "I hope she feels better."

Teuchi laughed. "It's just cold, but thanks anyways. I'll be on to your order now."

The two mostly sat in silence, lamenting over the First Exam and wondering on how their relationship will work out. The two went right in to eating; they paid and left, still having an air of depression going around them. Naruto looked down at Hanabi and sadly smiled. "Do… Do you want me to walk you home?"

Hanabi nodded. "Yeah…"

Naruto held Hanabi's hand, both still ignoring the strong warning tingle going through their bodies, emanating from the seal.

When they arrived to the Hyuuga Compound, Naruto looked at Hanabi and frowned. "We're here…"

Hanabi frowned as well. "I guess I'll see you tomorrow then?"

Naruto nodded. "Yeah…"

Sasuke battled with his thoughts as he made his dinner and ate and went to bed. I don't want to... but I feel so angry, so pissed, I will never again hug my parents, tell them that I love them… Dammit! Sasuke was crying as he fell asleep.

Naruto made his way home and crawled inside his bed. Not for the first time, he put his arm around Hanabi, or tried to then only found out that she wasn't there. Naruto sadly sighed as he began crying especially hard. Seeing Hanabi again brought up a lot of emotions and the questions on the first exam did not make it any easier. Damn you Jiji! Naruto felt tears on his face and choked out a sob as he slept with his last thoughts for the day. Nabi-Chan, I want to have you next to me now, I want to hold you in my arms… I love you.

Hanabi quickly went to bed, seeing as she already ate dinner. There was a knock on the door and Hanabi turned away, knowing who it was. "Go away I want to be left alone…"

Sayama still opened the door and sat down next to Hanabi and began rubbing her back. "I saw you with Naruto today. So are you two back together?"

Hanabi sighed. "It's… complicated, we are going slowly, and it brought up a lot of emotions for me to deal with. The questions on the First Exam did not make it easier to deal with them."

Sayama smiled. "Well do you want to talk about it?"

Hanabi sadly sighed as she sat up and began telling her caretaker of what was on the exam, and what she answered. "Whenever it said significant other, I just imagined Naruto. It was those questions that made me break down, or at least almost did…"

Sayama nodded. "Everything is ok, Hanabi-Chan. Don't worry."

Hanabi smiled and nodded. "I know… I need to get up early tomorrow, so if you don't mind, I would like to rest."

Sayama nodded. "Alright, I'll leave you alone."

With that, Sayama left and Hanabi set her alarm as the tears from the day all began falling. Ruto-Kun… I want to just bury my head into your chest, I want to hold onto you so badly, and I love you so much! This would not be the first time in the week that Hanabi fell asleep crying, but it would have then day she fell asleep crying the hardest.

A/N Now I remember why I stopped using line breaks... but it does help break up the POV. Anyways onto the poll. After completing 'A Fall to Remember' an posting a one-shot, I don't know what to do and the purpose of the poll is so I know what to write next. I would appreciate it if you put your votes in. Anyways, onto my review and thoughts of this chapter. Tbh, I never wanted to do the Chuunin Exams nor do I wish to do the invasion, probably because i don't want to rewrite 'Naruto' So I came up with an idea, add my own twists to it, for example, these questions. If you want you guys can try and answer these questions for yourselves, the whole reason why I kept a few of Naruto's answers quiet... in fact I will list all the questions in a row after this author's note, then I will sign off as usual.
