Format: Free Verse

The world is cold and unforgiving

Once you've lived this long

And seen this much

It's hard to appreciate its beauty

I've always lived behind walls

That kept me from getting too close

To people who would inevitably

Forget about and leave me

That is, until I met you

Alfred F. Jones was your name

Your smile could brighten any room

And mend a broken heart

I couldn't seem to shake you off

I'd lay in bed at night wondering

Why such a perfect man cared so much

About a person like me

Compared to you, I was nothing

I was dark and you were light

I was what people feared

While you were what gave them hope

Alfred F. Jones got under my skin

And there was nothing I could do to stop it
