Warning: This chapter is not for the faint of heart. I do not own Silent Hill.
"You had one job," Alessa kicked the pile of ashes across the carpeted floor.
'Don't do that.'
"Do you realize what they're going to do to us?" Pyramid stared at the scattered ashes on the floor, a part of him in denial about the whole ordeal. "Do you!?" Alessa snapped.
'What was I supposed to do? She went mad!'
"That's exactly what you were supposed to prevent!"
'It came out of nowhere. She was fine and then all of a sudden she wasn't.'
"This is your fault."
'No, Alessa, it's yours. We would not even be here if it weren't for you.'
"You wouldn't be out of the fucking pit if it weren't for me, you ungrateful piece of shit," Alessa slung a handful of ashes at Pyramid, who jerked as if he could catch them as they fell through his fingers.
'I'd almost prefer the pit to this.' Alessa pulled her hair and closed her eyes as if she were in physical pain as she trudged back and forth through Lily's remains. 'She can't be dead.'
"Burned and crumbled into ashes is pretty dead."
'It's also a way in.'
It was dark. The abyss was limitless. Indistinguishable blackness swirled and danced like a bleak kaleidoscope that didn't exist, yet somehow did. Pulsating and thick it swam and flooded every breath to be taken so that with each drowning moment you were turned into something you weren't. Your body filled with darkness, coating your bones, seeping into the sinew and swallowing every ounce of blood until finally you were no longer different. No spark, no life, no light. Just an endless, heavy black mass writing in nothingness for every eternity.
Before she could even open her eyes, Lilith knew something wasn't right. She was immobile, it took every effort to crack open her eyelids where she could see only a dim glow through the blur of her own lashes. She lay there for several more minutes until she finally managed to peel her eyes open. She looked to her left, where she could see her arm stretched and strapped down. Beyond it, a gray stoned wall coated in an oozing green slime that seemed to faintly glow. She looked to her right, where she again saw her arm stretched and strapped down to metal, cross shaped table. Beyond it, just out of reach was a shiny cart, filled with various trays of terrifying contraptions.
There was an extreme disorientation within Lilith, to the point she couldn't form a thought. She blinked fast and continuously, watching the room flicker in and out of her sight. Feeling slowly returned to her, but all she could feel was cold. The table beneath her felt like ice that pierced her skin like needles. She tried arching her back to relieve herself, but her body was too heavy and she couldn't lift it off the table. She looked down and saw her own naked body, her legs spread slightly apart and each ankle fastened in the same fashion as her wrists.
It was then that fear began to seep through her brain, pooling into terror and awakening her thoughts. 'Where am I? ... Who am I?' She couldn't remember anything. Perhaps there was nothing to remember. Had she always been here?
Suddenly there was a great screeching sound, like metal being dragged across the stone cold ground. Something grabbed at her then, like something she had forgotten. What had she forgotten?
The screech came again, followed by a loud bang as a door behind her was shut and two figures emerged on either side of her. On her right was a tall man in a long white coat with a facemask and a cap on his head. His eyes were covered by thick, dark goggles, leaving the only his ears visible. They were long and drooping, as if he were very old, with a chunk missing out of the left. Lilith looked to her left and her terror tightened its grip. A creature hunched next to her, different colored patches of skin poorly sewn and stapled together all over its body. It had no eyes. In fact, it had nothing except a mouth with seemingly endless rows of teeth as its black tongue slithered over her fingers. She wanted to scream, wanted to move, but she was incapable of doing anything except watching. The creature raised its arm as if to touch her, its fingers resembled claws, long and sharp, but the voice on the other side of her spoke, "ah-ah. Don't touch." The creature backed away from her, "yiiiisssss doooooctorrr." It spoke without moving its mouth, its voice seemed to echo through the room. But as she watched the creature, that feeling came back to her once more, as if there was something she forgotten. Had she seen the monster before?
Lilith looked away, turning her attention to the doctor, who had his back turned to her, fiddling with the tray of instruments. He removed his gloves to reveal long, boney fingers as he turned back around to face her. "Poor girl," he scanned her body, "such a waste." Lilith desperately wanted to cover herself, to become small and hide. "But such is the way of things."
"Her fleshhhhhhh can we keep itttt?"
"I'm afraid it's too badly damaged, but perhaps there are still salvageable parts."
"Cannnnnnnn we eattttt itttttt?"
The doctor pinched Lilith's forearm and peeled back a chunk of skin before tossing it to the creature. He caught it with his black, frog-like tongue. Lilith's arm bled profusely and the pain was immense, yet she could not scream. "We'll have to remove all of this," he peeled off another chunk and dropped it into a metal bowl, "burnt flesh before I can perform an autopsy."
"Whhhhhyyyyyy does sheeee neeeeed itttt if was burned?"
"Standard," rrrriiiiippp- he peeled off another, long strand, "procedure," plink- he dropped the discarded flesh into the bowl. "Plus, I hate to see such a lovely cadaver go to waste," he stopped peeling off her skin and ran his bony fingers through her hair, "I want to open her up, I want," he stroked her cheek leaving a trail of her own blood, "to get inside of our sweet little Jane Doe."
Lilith tried to scream, but it only sounded in her head. Her head filled with her own agonizing screams as her flesh was peeled away. She watched so much blood spill from her body and she prayed to whatever god there may be to let her pass out, but it never happened.
Rrrriiiiipppp- plink
Rrrriiiiiipppp- plink
Over and over again. When the bowl was full, he handed it off the toothy creature who swallowed the chunks whole, licked it clean and chewed on it like jerky. Tears spilled out of her eyes, but she couldn't speak, couldn't move. She was trapped in her own body, forced to endure her mutilation. 'I'm not dead!' she screamed in her head over and over again. Or was she? Was this punishment? …Punishment for what?
The doctor had scraped every bit of from her arms with his bare fingers. "Something to get the job done faster, I think," he said, turning towards his collection of various instruments of butchery and procuring a large scalpel. "Yes, yes, I think this will do nicely." His words slithered into her ears, sounding so much like his pet's. He sliced a long gash across her chest and wriggled a finger underneath it and then another and another until both hands were wedged tightly between the muscle and the flesh. It sounded like fruit being squished into juice as he tried to make room and the popping of suction as he peeled it back. Tears of blood poured out of Lilith's eyes and she begged for death as he slid her skin down her body until there was no more.
Conformed to the emptiness of nothing, there was exactly what you imagined there would be- nothing. A nothingness so pure and ancient yet timeless and newborn. There are no souls, no threads of consciousness. Everything was just nothing. The darkness swam and pulsated, yet it was not alive nor dead. Suspended in time, forever, you became that darkness. You became that nothing, that everything, that bleak, writhing mass. There was no meaning, no thought, no sound, and no word. Loneliness consumes until beyond the end of time.
Lilith felt nothing but cold and disoriented. Everything spun in her mind, but she had no idea what any of it meant. All her thoughts ran so quickly through her mind that she could not grab onto any of them. They were screaming at her, but they would not remain long enough to make sense and she felt them trickle away one at a time. She panicked, she couldn't lose them, but one by one they were snuffed out and each became like a dream that escapes you once you try to recall it. 'Where am I? …Who am I?' How long had she been there? Had she always been there? She had to remember, there was something…something important…something…anything. But was there, really? Was there anything there at all?
She looked down and saw her own naked body, her legs spread slightly apart and each ankle fastened in the same fashion as her wrists. But there was something tacked to the wall, it was pale and stretched out with strands of barb wire. It looked like…skin. Lilith began to panic, terror seeped through her body but she couldn't move. Suddenly there was a great screeching sound, like metal being dragged across the stone cold ground. Something grabbed at her then, like something she had forgotten. What had she forgotten? What was it? What was it? She desperately tried, that sound, that sound…she knew it. Or…something like it. It reminded her of something she couldn't remember. Something she needed, desperately. 'Please' she begged, 'please…'
A man walked around to her right side, he looked like a doctor, but he was old. His skin sagged and his lips were blue. His eyes were sunken in to the point she couldn't tell the color and he had a chunk missing from his left ear. "It's just us today, my dear," he stroked her cheek and then ran his hand down her neck, over her breasts and down her torso. Lilith squeezed her eyes shut and wanted nothing more than to crawl out of her own skin. "Such…exquisite shape. Such beautiful new skin," he ran his hand back up her body and cupped her cheek before leaning over to press his lips to hers. She wanted to scream and hit him and run away, but she couldn't. She was helpless and terrified. Then he licked her, his tongue slimy and worm-like. Lilith felt sick.
He stood up and chuckled, "not yet, my dear. There is work to be done." He grabbed a scalpel and placed it at the corner of her chest, "now, let's have a look, shall we, darling?" He sliced down to the center of her chest, in between her breasts and then did the same on the other side. Lilith tried to yell, but she couldn't open her mouth. The doctor then made on long slice along her torso and began to pull her apart. The pain was unbearable, yet there was nothing she could do. She was trapped, watching as he opened her up and licked his lips and her innards. Lilith begged and prayed for death, anything that would release her from the prison of her body.
The room went dark and Lilith could no longer see, but the pain was still there. Everything began to spin and once again her head was filled with thoughts that she couldn't catch. But instead of disappearing, they got faster and faster, flooding her mind to the point where she could no longer feel the pain.
"No…NO!" a voice screamed. "NO, I'M NOT THROUGH! NO!" There were clangs and clatters as if things were being thrown violently around, "I'M NOT THROUGH! SHE'S MINE! MINE!"
The voice screamed and howled, but was eventually drown out by the wave of thoughts and images that Lilith couldn't piece together. There was so much…so much…
"If she did get in, how are we supposed to find her? The Darkness is an endless place, it would take us the rest of eternity to search it."
'Then we better be quick about,' Pyramid head mocked.
"This isn't a game, how can-"
Their conversation was broken off by screaming. The pair rushed to the living room where Lilith lay curled up into a fetal position, naked and soaked in blood. Alessa stood, with what could only be described as shock and confusion on her face while Pyramid wasted no time in dropping down next to her. He placed his hand on her shoulder, but she thrashed violently, "No! Don't touch me!" She scooted backwards away from him, grabbing at her chest. Before their eyes they watched as a giant gash down her torso faded into smooth skin. Lilith sobbed, "It wasn't a dream," she wrapped her arms around her knees and rocked. She was so covered in blood there was barely any visible skin.
"Lily," Pyramid spoke softly, "it's alright, you're safe now."
She shook her head violently and looked at her hands and then all over, as if noticing the gore for the first time, "this…this is my blood. Mine. It's mine."
"Lily-"
"YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO SAVE ME!" She screamed, "I heard you…I did…but you didn't come. You were supposed to protect me."
There was a pain that Pyramid Head felt that he had not ever felt before. He didn't save her. He didn't protect her like he was supposed to. He failed her. His words felt difficult to form, as if they were choking him as they passed his tongue, "I'm sorry, I-"
Before he could say more Lilith threw herself into the safety of his arms. Even if he didn't protect her, she still felt as if she were in the safest place in the room. He didn't protest or seem to care that she was covered in gallons of her own blood. His hand was much larger than her face, but he very carefully tried to wipe the blood away. Ghost approached slowly with his ears down and tail tucked. He, too, didn't seem to care that she was covered in gore as he nuzzled up against her.
"A touching reunion," Alessa said, her lip curled in disgust.
'Leave us,' he demanded, cradling the sobbing girl.
"I need to know-"
"LEAVE US!" Alessa was taken aback by the hostility in his voice directed at her. She wanted to say something more, but instead gave a small, cynical laugh and disappeared. The pain inside Pyramid swelled and he couldn't speak. 'I'm sorry, Lily. You're safe now. It's alright, I'm here. I'm sorry.' He didn't know if she could hear him or not, but she hugged him tighter as she shook and the mutt sat there whining for hours until she finally passed out.
