Quinn was putting away the last of the morning's paperwork. The hotel had been really busy the night before, but check out had gone surprisingly well. She had been working since six and was feeling tired. She looked up at the clock. It was nearly 3pm and then she would be able to go back to bed.
"Hey Quinn sorry i'm late" Amy apologised as she ran behind the desk.
Amy was another receptionist at the empire. She was the same age as Quinn, nice but a little bit ditzy and always running late.
"Don't worry about it" Quinn reassured her " There's nothing much to hand over so I'm going to go"
"You're off tomorrow right?" Amy asked.
"Yes I'm so tired I just want to spend all day in bed" Quinn replied "Infact that's where i'm going now"
"I thought you needed to go buy some new clothes today?" Amy asked.
"You're right" Quinn agreed running a hand over her growing baby bump "Baby brain I keep forgetting things, not sure how I could forget none of my clothes fit me"
She stepped out from behind the desk and went back up to her room. She wanted to put on something a little bit more comfortable so she chose one of her looser dresses and flat ballet pumps. She had saved a lot of money working for Chuck seeing as he refused to let her pay any rent no matter how much she argued. At least it meant she could afford some maternity clothes. Nate and his mother had both offered to help at her last scan but she refused. Quinn had no problem with Anne and met her for coffee a few times but she was still mad at Nate who was still seeing Serena.
Quinn really missed having Santana around especially when she needed a shopping partner. They had kept in contact and the girls were having an amazing time on tour with Mercedes. She was happy for them but it would still have been nice to have a girl friend around. Rachel was so busy Quinn barely saw her and Shelby and Beth were on vacation.
Rather than feel sorry for herself Quinn went shopping alone and stocked up on as many cute dresses, skirts and blouses as she could that would accomodate her growing baby bump. She had decided to cook for Chuck as a thank you for everything he had done for her. She had a recipe to follow and had double checked she had all the right ingrediants so surely it shouldn't be so difficult to follow. She had been practising and was getting better. No one could get lasagne wrong and she was determined to perfect her skills. She didn't want her child growing up on take out.
It was around half 8 when Chuck made it back home. He had left at 8 in the morning.
"You do too much some days" She told him as he sat down.
"I had a lot of meetings there's a lot to go through" He replied picking up a glass of whiskey.
"I made dinner so you can tell me all about it" She said with a smile.
"You did?" He asked.
"Don't start until you've tried it" She replied with a warning tone."You should have a little faith in me"
"I do" He reassured her but it didn't sound all that convincing.
"You're a terrible liar" She laughed setting the plates down at the table.
Quinn braved the first bite which was surprisingly good. Chuck waited to check out her reaction before he tried his own.
"It's pretty good" He told her.
"A compliment on my cooking?" She questioned jokingly "So tell me about your day"
"My new club is opening next month, building is going well and the PR woman I hired is doing an amazing job" He replied.
"That's great i'm glad it's all coming together" She said warmly.
"Did you go shopping?" He asked.
"Yes I have clothes that actually fit me" She replied "I forgot how much this ruins your body"
"You look beautiful"
"You're my friend you have to say that"
"You know that's not true" He smirked "I always tell you the truth"
"Well thank you" she replied.
"What are you doing tomorrow?" He asked
"Sleeping" she replied clearing the plates from the table.
It was the first time they'd both finished a meal she had cooked without ordering take out afterwards. Quinn went and sat on the couch. Lola jumped up and snuggled up on her lap. She stroked her soft fur as Lola closed her eyes content to go to sleep.
"I'm taking you shopping and then we're going for lunch" He told her.
"But i'm sleeping" She whined.
"Not early" He promised.
"Ok" She agreed "But I don't need anything so why are we shopping?"
"I want to get a few things" He replied.
Quinn just smiled in reply. She lay down curled up with Lola and shut her eyes as Chuck had turned on the news. She felt him put a blanket over her but was too tired to respond. She woke up the next morning to Lola licking her face.
"Hey baby girl I'll take you out now" She said yawning as she sat up.
Sleeping on the couch was never a good thing, her back was aching and she still felt tired. She jumped when she sat up and realised Chuck was already sat there having coffee.
"You scared me" She exclaimed "What time is it?"
"Good morning to you too Princess" He laughed "It's 10:30"
"That late already?" She asked "Poor Lola"
"She's already been out she just wanted you to wake up" He told her.
"Arthur took her out already?" She asked picking up Lola's ball and throwing it for her.
Instead of chasing it Lola just rolled over for a belly rub. Quinn smiled gave the little dog some fuss and attention.
"I took her out" He replied.
"Wait you took out the little fluffball no respectable man would be seen walking?" She laughed.
"I didn't say those words exactly" He said defending himself "someone as manly as me can get away with it"
Quinn just rolled her eyes.
"I'll go and get ready so we can get your shopping done" She said walking through to the bedroom quickly followed by Lola carrying her chew toy.
She picked out one of her new dresses and put on a cardigan. She left her hair down. Lola was playing happily on her bed so she met Chuck by the elevator.
They headed to Barney's. Quinn amused herself looking through the rails of clothes she could never afford while Chuck went off to do whatever he was doing. She was looking at a beautiful chiffon printed scarf when she felt a tap on her shoulder.
"Anne how are you?" She asked giving the older woman a hug.
"I'm good thank you Quinn" Anne replied "How are you doing?"
"I'm ok just tired a lot" She answered honestly.
"You're getting bigger" Anne told her with a smile touching her growing baby bump.
"Tell me about it" She said sighing.
"What are you doing here?" Anne asked.
"Chuck had some shopping to do and he asked me to come" She replied
"I'm meeting Nate and Serena" Anne explained almost sheepishly.
"Oh" Quinn said trying not to sound bothered "Say I said Hi"
As if on cue Nate and Serena turned up.
"Or I can tell them myself" She said greeting them "Well I better go"
"Wait" Nate interrupted "Can't you stay and talk for a bit"
Quinn looked between Nate and Serena, it was still hurtful seeing them together.
She just shook her head.
"Have you thought any more about the appartment?" He continued.
"My feelings haven't changed" She replied a little more icily than she intended puposely not looking at Serena.
Chuck appeared carrying a lot of bags.
"Oh you're here with him" Nate said coldly.
Quinn just rolled her eyes. He was the one with a new girlfriend, she wasn't about to get into another pointless argument.
"Nathaniel" Chuck said with a smile "And Serena and Mrs Archibald, Family outing?"
"We're off for lunch it would be lovely if you and Quinn could join us" Anne said politly "I don't see enough of her these days"
"That sounds like a great idea" Chuck replied enthusiastically.
Quinn elbowed him hard in the ribs as she followed Mrs Archibald out of the store. Chuck just smirked at her clearly finding the whole situation amusing. As much as he was a good friend to her there was still a little of the old Chuck Bass there.
"I'm never doing you a favour again" She hissed.
"Calm down princess it'll be fine" He told her.
Anne had booked a table at her favourite restaurant. Of course being Mrs Archibald it was no problem for this all to be changed last minute even though they were clearly busy.
"So Quinn are you resting like you should?" Anne asked taking a sip of her water.
"Still working away ,it's early days yet" She replied.
"Where are you working?" Anne continued
"At the Empire" She replied "only on the reception desk"
"You'll work for him but not with me?" Nate asked glaring at Chuck.
Quinn just rolled her eyes.
"Really Nate?" She almost laughed "You can't think why I would work for Chuck and not with you and her"
"You don't have to work you know, I'll look after you" Nate said ignoring her outburst.
"Unlike the people you choose to be around I look after myself, I don't have things handed to me" She replied coldly.
"But you'll stay with Chuck?" Serena interrupted.
"Well seeing as I quit my second job and moved in with my Boyfriend who cheated on me with some cheap two faced whore, I kind of needed help from a friend" She spat back.
"Enough!" Anne hissed before Serena could say another word. She put a smile back on her face before turning back to Quinn "So how is Beth?"
"She's great, Shelby's taken her to Disneyland so I'm guessing she's having the time of her life" she replied.
"How's the paper doing Nathaniel?" Chuck asked.
Nate looked over at his former best friend breaking his stare away from Quinn.
"Everything is going great" He replied "I heard you have a new club opening"
"Next month, you and Serena will have to come, you can write it up for the Spectator" Chuck told him.
Quinn felt so relieved when their food finally arrived at the table and she could stop making small talk with Nate. She loved spending time with Anne but not like this.
"You know Quinn you're welcome to stay with me any time" Anne said as they finished.
"Thank you" Quinn replied with a smile "But I really am ok"
"Just know the offer is always there" Anne told her kindly.
Quinn just smiled back "I really should get going, thank you so much for inviting us"
"Lunch is my treat" Chuck added putting down the money for the bill as he stood up.
"We don't need you to pay" Nate said through gritted teeth.
"I know you don't need me to" Chuck said as he helped Quinn with her coat."We'll see you soon"
"Quinn can we meet up soon to talk?" Nate asked ignoring Chuck.
"Yeah I guess" She replied with a shrug before turning to give Anne a hug goodbye.
Chuck took her hand and led her to the door. Quinn noticed Nate go to stand up only to be pulled back into his seat by Serena.
"Was that just to rile Nate up?" She asked with a smirk.
"It was fun though" Chuck grinned.
"So did you get everything you need earlier?" She asked praying the answer was yes.
"Yes we can go home now" He replied looking at his watch "Are you feeling tired?"
"Always" She sighed.
Right on cue Chuck's car appeared to pick them up. Quinn was amazed at how well organised Chuck's staff were. They always knew when and where to be and she never noticed Chuck on the phone to them.
Lola was jumping up at her as soon as she walked through the door.
"Ok ok calm down" She laughed sitting down so Lola could jump up on her lap for some cuddles and fuss.
"Can you come through here?" Chuck asked walking into his office.
Quinn stood up and crossed the room. Her hand flew to her mouth as she looked through the doorway. Chuck's office was no longer an office it had been transformed into the most beautiful nursery Quinn had ever seen. It was all in neutral colours. A dark wooden swinging crib with white lace curtains sat in the corner and a gorgeous old fashioned pram.
"You did all this for me?" She asked looking round the room full of everything her baby could need.
She threw her arms around him.
"Thank you so much" she said looking up at him.
He stroked a stray peice of hair at the side of her face and kissed her softly.
Quinn pulled back and bit her lip unsure of what to say.
"I'm not sure if I'm..."She started.
"It's ok I get it, I'm sorry" He said
She wasn't sure if she was over Nate yet but he had chosen to be with Serena. Chuck would do anything for her and was so special to her. She took a step forward standing on tip toes and kissed him back.
"Should we have done that?" She asked pulling back.
Chuck put his hand behind her head and pulled her back to him kissing her more deeply than before.
"Yes we should" He told her "you deserve to be loved"
"Nate's your best friend" She pointed out.
"And he made his choice about both of us" he replied taking her hand and leading her back into the living room.
Quinn sat down on the couch next to Chuck cuddling into him as he turned on the tv. Lola jumped up and squeezed into the space between them. She smiled as Chuck stroked her hair and Lola snuggled in. It wasn't what she had wanted a few months ago but it wasn't a bad place to be. All she had ever wanted was to be loved.
"Will you spend thanksgiving with my family?" He asked.
"Your family?" She questioned.
"Lily invited us, she means a lot to me I'd like you to meet her" He replied.
"Will Serena be there?" She asked.
"Probably but I don't care about her, it would mean a lot to me if you came" He explained.
She looked up at him. He looked like he really wanted her to go with him.
"All Lily has ever known me as is some drunk player I want her to see how much more seriously i'm taking my life now and a lot of that's to do with you" He continued.
"You were always serious about your business" She reassured him.
"But before you I wasn't the nicest of people, Me and Blair were always fighting and I got caught up in a lot of bad things, made a lot of mistakes and enemies" He told her.
"I've never seen that side of you" She said softly.
"Because you make me want to be better" He said stroking her cheek.
"This softer side is coming out more often" She giggled.
"I could show you another side" He smirked leaning down to kiss her.
Lola barked not getting enough attention.
"Thanks" Chuck sighed looking at the dog.
"I'll come with you but I'll meet you there" She agreed changing the subject.
"Are you sure?" He asked.
"If it's important to you of course I will" She replied "I just have a few other things to do"
"Bring Beth and Shelby with you" He said reading her mind. "Lily loves to have a big party, gives her a bigger audience to play happy families infront of"
"Well I'll ask them" She said "But I'm helping out at a homeless shelter"
"Are you sure you're not an angel?" He asked.
"I'm sure" She laughed "But I do it every year at thanksgiving and christmas"
"I'll come with you, we can bring some of the food from the Empire" He told her.
"Chuck I don't expect you to give up time with your family" She said with a smile.
"It's you I want to spend my day with" He said taking her hand.
Quinn rested her head back on his shoulder as he put his arm around her. She was happy things were finally working out for her but it didn't make her feel good about spending a day with Serena and for all she knew Nate as well. She still had to meet up with him to talk and now she had so much more to tell him. Not that he had any right to be upset when he left her. They were going for coffee later when Chuck was at work.
It was around six when Chuck had to get ready to leave for work. His club was opening in a few days so his nights were pretty busy.
"I'll be back late" he said kissing her lightly on the lips "Don't let Nate upset you"
"I won't " She replied "I'll see you when you get back"
"You don't have to wait up you need to rest" He argued.
"I'm pregnant not old" She said rolling her eyes.
"Ok I'll see you when I get back" He laughed.
Quinn went and changed into her new maternity jeans, an oversized white shirt and grabbed her sweater. She pinned her bangs to the side and ran a brush through the rest of her hair. She bent down to say goodbye to Lola before going to meet Nate at the coffee shop round the corner.
He was already sat at a table when she got there.
"Hey" She said taking a seat at the table.
"What do you want to drink?" He asked calling the waitress over.
"Just a water please" She told the waitress before turning her attention back to Nate "So you wanted to talk?"
"We need to fix things between us" He replied "This isn't how I pictured things going"
"Because when I pictured my life it was having two babies by two dads and ending up with neither" She retorted sarcastically "Or having the first person I trusted since Puck cheat on me"
"I can't change what I did" He said "But we have a child on the way and we need to be able to get along again"
"I want that too" She admitted.
"I was worried the way things have been you wouldn't let me be involved" He told her.
He looked so sad she almost felt bad for him. But he had cheated on her and not trusted her so she didn't feel that bad.
"Nate this is your baby and you'll always be a part of his or her life, but She is never being around my baby"
"What if I don't want Chuck around my baby?" He asked.
"Chuck never attacked me while I was pregnant" She retorted.
"Ok we'll work up to the Serena thing but she's my girlfriend she will be around" He sighed.
"Just not on the days you're with the baby" She said remaining calm.
"What are you doing for thanksgiving?" He asked changing the subject.
"I'm at the homeless shelter then Chuck invited me, Shelby and Beth to spend it was his family" She replied "I think Puck is coming too"
"You're spending the holidays with Chuck?" He asked raising an eyebrow. "Look Quinn I know it's not my place but Chuck will only be around as long as it takes to get in your pants he's only going to hurt you"
"This coming from the man that cheated on me" She laughed in disbelief "I'm well aware of Chuck's past just like he knows about mine but to me he has done nothing but be there for me when you weren't"
"You won't let me be there for you" He pointed out.
"No I won't because I don't need you" She said coldly reminding her of her high school self "So if there's nothing else for us to talk about I'll go"
"Here" He said handing her a bag.
Quinn pulled out the most beautiful soft baby blanket and she softend a bit.
"It's beautiful" She told him "Look I really do want you to be involved and I will try and move past what happened but please understand it's going to take time, I thought you were someone I could trust and you moved on quickly but you really hurt me"
"If i could take it back I would" He told her looking her straight in the eye.
Quinn was the first to look away. The last thing she needed was to hear Nate saying he regretted being with his new girlfriend. What was done was done and they had both moved on.
