Closer
The professors were gone and the others were milling around but James and Lily remained in their spot with James's head in Lily's lap, "It doesn't surprise me you know," he said abruptly.
"What doesn't?"
"Harry coming here. He needs closure. He barely understands what happened to us, why we were gone, he had to see it for himself."
"I hardly get it myself," Lily sighed. "Why didn't we just run or something?"
"He had us cornered, there was nowhere to run," James said grimly. "At least that's how I picture it. But now that you mention it, Hermione hasn't really given us those details. I know I told you to take Harry and run and we were here but where in the house? What stopped us from making a break for it?"
"Do you really want to know?" Lily grimaced.
"If we want to save ourselves, we should. You think they found out when they came here? Mya does look a little unsteady."
"I don't envy her," Lily braced her head on her arm. "I can't imagine what it would be like knowing everything."
In the kitchen, Hermione couldn't stop her hands shaking as she tried to make herself a cup of tea. Among her most terrifying memories that night in Godric's Hollow definitely held a high place. Especially when Harry finally revealed the true details of what happened that night, the events took on a new sickening definition. The thought of James and Lily's last moments were enough to bring tears to her eyes but when she thought of Bathilda, her whole arm trembled while holding the teapot. "Hey," someone said softly. Sirius was there, easing the pot out of her grasp. "Are you okay?"
"No not really," Hermione hugged herself. "Let's just say this visit to Godric's Hollow is far better than my first one. How about you? You just found out your brother…"
"Was a good man," Sirius reiterated. "I'm proud of Reg even though I wish with all my heart he'd come to me."
"I think he was trying to protect the family," Mya patted his arm. "If the death eaters got wind of what he did, everyone would've been a target."
"But he knew I was already against them and wasn't keeping it a secret," Sirius insisted.
"You still have to think about your parents. What was to stop the death eaters from going after them?"
"Fair point. It's just a lot to take in."
"At least Lily and Remus haven't got a chance to bug us," Hermione attempted to lighten the mood.
Sirius laughed, "You wait, we're almost done the story. That gives us more than three days -"
"Us?"
Sirius swallowed, "Them. That gives them more than three days to do what they want."
"It does seem like a long time when you say it like that," Hermione sipped her tea, not sure what she herself meant.
"Yeah," Sirius said hoarsely.
"It wouldn't be fair," Hermione tried to say firmly. "You know, for them to keep bugging us like that."
"No it wouldn't," Sirius backed her up.
Hermione set down her tea, "I'll be back." Not even looking at Sirius, she took off to the upstairs bathroom and firmly shut the door behind her. She braced the sink, feeling like she'd run miles, her mind screaming TOO MUCH. Maybe once this year was over they could revisit the issue but with everything she was to tell them, she just couldn't handle it right then.
Remus watched her go and approached Sirius, "Everything alright?"
"No," Sirius said baldly.
"I'm sorry, we were acting like idiots. We won't do it anymore."
Sirius shook his head, "It's not that. Although yes please, do stop."
Remus smiled a little, "Then what is it?"
"I'm not sure what it is," Sirius shrugged.
"Well figure it out within the next three days and when you do, do something about it," with that thought Remus left.
Sirius returned to the living room and sat down on the floor so he was level with Harry on the couch, He whispered quietly so Lily and James couldn't hear him, "What do you think Har-bear? Should I listen to crazy uncle Remus?" The baby's only response was thumping his stuffed animal against the couch cushions. "I'm not sure whether you're telling me to man up or clobber Remus…either way great advice Harry, I knew I could count on you." Hermione reappeared on the stairs and he decided to go with the first interpretation. "Mya hey," Sirius met at the bottom. "Look about before…"
"No Sirius," Hermione forestalled him. "It wasn't about you or Remus or Lily, I'm stressed about this final year, there's a lot of stuff we have to rehash. We'll set those idiots straight when we're done okay?"
Sirius opened his mouth to say something but changed his mind, "Okay."
A/N: AWWWW that was only slightly heartbreaking. Don't worry, you won't have to wait long to find out what Sirius wanted to say. On a side note, if you happen to be Power Ranger fans, I'm writing a Harry Potter/Power Ranger crossover and should have the first chapters up sometime in February. Until next time, ENJOY! R&R PLZ!
