When To Start, Where To Start
A/N: Hey guys :::cracks knuckles::: time to get down to business. I hope to get these final chapters out as soon as possible and I've come up with a completely brilliant ending – if I do say so myself – so stay tuned and as always ENJOY! R&R PLZ!
The next morning, the occupants of Godric's Hollow allowed themselves the luxury of sleeping in but for a couple of reasons. Mainly it was because they were exhausted, mentally and physically, but there was always that niggling smaller reason that was unique to each person. James had easily filed away Peter's betrayal to the back of his mind and could definitely put off revisiting the matter. Lily would take any opportunity not to consider what to do about Severus, after all, he couldn't get the happily ever after he really wanted. No matter how deep his emotions were she knew there was no way she was going to leave James for him. Remus pondered on his situation with Dora, it would be a complicated mess. Should he wait for her? What if they didn't get together? Seventeen years is a long time to gamble on and he couldn't not go through this and not value time. Sirius was surprisingly thinking the same thing but unsurprisingly in regards to another female. After his embarrassing display, he lay in his bed trying to figure out if he really was prepared to wait that long. He was certain if he gave in, it would be hard to think about replacing Hermione let alone actually doing it. He didn't know which was scarier, three days left or seventeen years to go. Hermione was a little nervous facing Sirius, she didn't know what she was hoping for but the fear and excitement created an awkward bubble in her chest. More importantly, they were changing time today; they were going to alter the future. If they weren't careful they could make things worse for the war, people could die, but they could also make it better. The second war might not even happen, Harry might get his family, Sirius would never be sent to prison. Unable to take lying down anymore, Hermione got up and went downstairs in her pyjamas. The others heard her go and took that as their cue to get up too. They filed downstairs and began making breakfast, "Morning all," James said semi-cheerfully, attempting to cut the tension. Everyone grumbled something in response before silence descended.
At the sink, Sirius and Hermione were getting some water. "Morning Sirius," Hermione bid him softly.
"Hermione," Sirius replied not meeting her eyes. She looked rather pretty with her bedhead hair and ivory tank and pyjama pants but that plain colouring drew more attention to that damned time turner shining in the sun.
"So," Lily began bravely, putting Harry in his chair. "I don't suppose there's any need to make a formal meeting. Maybe we should just start discussing the plan."
"Agreed," Remus put in immediately. "But where do we start?" It quickly transpired that everyone had a different idea of what should be dealt with first and it was also their first confrontation with the fact that not everything could be changed. Their mental change-it list wasn't feasible, certain things had to happen. James and Sirius would be all for bringing down Pettigrew now but that would tip Voldemort off that they were on to him and force him to change his plans make him unpredictable again. Lily wanted to speak with Snape to have a spy of their own but he wasn't on their side yet and wouldn't be until Voldemort began the hunt on the Potters. Remus and Hermione advocated for hunting the Horcruxes but how many Voldemort actually had at this point and where they were was unclear.
"That fact of the matter is," Hermione called over all the voices that had risen in volume throughout the course of their debate, "that we don't know anything for certain before Halloween night. But we know he's made the Horcruxes. We can forget the snake but the rest were already made by that time."
"That still doesn't give us much Mya," Sirius argued. "Who died for the diary? Who died for the ring? What about the cup? The diadem yes, the locket yes, but the rest are in the wind."
"You won't know until you start searching," Remus pointed out. "Besides he must've done it ahead of time. Bellatrix must have the cup in her vault already or will soon, it's not like he took it into exile with him, same for Lucius. As for the ring, all we need to do is go to the Gaunt cottage and check."
"So we're just going to allow the rat to keep passing information?" James pounded the table with his fist.
"Peter barely shows up to the meetings anymore," Lily reiterated for what felt like the twelfth time. "He doesn't know that much and it wouldn't be hard to keep the really pertinent stuff from him when he does. Severus on the other hand is well within in the inner circle, we know he's a good guy, and once he realizes what's going on I'm sure he'll switch sides. He's done it already!"
"But we can't wait around for that Lil," Remus shook his head.
"Hard at work I see," a voice said from behind. The group jumped and saw Albus and Minerva standing there. Albus moved forward, "I can tell there is some disagreement about our intended course of action."
"No kidding," Sirius muttered.
"If I may add my two cents," Dumbledore continued. "However valuable they may be, I think we should focus less on what to do and more on when to do it."
"Clear as mud like always," James rubbed his eyes. "Do you have to keep up with all the riddles?"
"I am first and foremost a teacher and therefore I will never give you a direct answer," Dumbledore pronounced.
"As opposed to just saying 'no'," James rolled his head.
Minerva interjected, "There is also the matter of having an Order meeting today. If you wish to stay behind and work on this, excuses will have to be made."
"I don't think we should," Lily looked around the table. "It would draw a lot of attention if we suddenly disappeared, people might even ask the rat and we can't afford him coming by or Voldemort finding out something is up."
"I'm with Lily," Remus nodded. "We are pretty big members, if all of us just didn't show up for no reason it'd cause unnecessary suspicion."
"Well at least I'll be around to take care of Harry," Hermione shrugged.
"Actually, what if Mya comes with us?" Sirius asked.
"Are you mad Padfoot?!" James demanded.
"I just thought she could listen in on the meeting in case something came up that needed to be changed," Sirius explained. "We could disguise her and sit by her the entire time. All she needs is a decent cover story and the rest is easy. Who's going to figure it out?"
"What do you think Headmaster?" Remus asked.
"I'll leave that decision to Miss Granger," Dumbledore gave Hermione the floor to speak.
Hermione wasn't sure what to do, there were good reasons to go and not to go. There was also the fear of secrecy but then again she would be disguised. In the end, this was what she was there for. She was supposed to help the war effort here and affect change. "Alright I'll go."
