The last thing she remembered was the unbearable pain in her abdomen as she hit the dock, the searing heat of the flames passing over her, the stomach retching smell of burnt flesh filling her senses. And finally the feeling of suffocation from the thick, smoke filled air as her head felt light and she finally gave up the fight to stay conscious. Now she felt as though she were floating. Every now again she would get a searing pain as she touched down on reality or hear a voice before she floated away again. When people said fight she didn't know how. She felt as though she were a spirit floating around. All she saw were memories of her life passing before her eyes.

"Jennifer Shepard get your backside up those stairs and tidy your room!" Stated an older redhead to a small 4 year old girl with big green eyes and bouncy red hair. Her mother was thin and week as the months ahead of her lessened, but the girl was bouncy and young - the complete opposite of her mother. The little girl looked at her mother with a cheeky smile that showed her missing front teeth and big eyes. "That smile doesn't work on me!" He mother laughed as she then put out her lip and puppy dog eyes. "Nu-uh not gonna work!"

"Aww come on it isn't that bad!" Stated her father with a laugh, before kneeling down next to his daughter and mimicking her expression.

"Jasper you are not helping. Her room is a mess!"

Jenny and her dad looked at each other before replying in synch "No its not. " He mother walked away shaking her head and the troublesome duo laughed and high-fived one another. Jenny was a daddy's girl, and whenever her father wasn't deployed her moth had her work cut out keeping them both in line.

"She has you wrapped around her little finger jasper" laughed her mother.

Jenny Shepard stood in the director's office at NCIS. She wore tight black jeans and a lose white blouse which was left lose. She had black patent leather heals on and striking red hair. The director looked at her long legs, red hair and pale skin and knew her new boss and partner - who just so happened to have a thing for red heads - was in trouble. Looking back at her file he smiled. "I understand you want your Naval past to be hidden?"

"Yes sir. I don't wish the fact I am a former naval commander to make me be treat any differently. "

"Very well. " As if on cue there was a knock on the door and in walked her new boss. "Special Agent Gibbs, meet your new probie and partner, agent Jennifer Shepard. "

"It's nice to meet you Agent Gibbs. "

"Yeah." He replied to the red head befor turning back to the director. "That all Tom? I got a dead body at Quanico Navy base. "

"Go. " Replied the director and they did. As they walked she eyed him up with his salt and pepper hair, toned body, and striking blue eyes and realised she just may be in for the ride of her life.

They sat in the small stuffy attic in Marseille photographing every person that got on and off the boat outside. The attic was small, dark, and dirty and in the middle of a record breaking hot summer, unbearably hot. Jethro as she now had been allowed to call him, got up and walked around, taking his top off in the process. She smirked as she admired to view. "Feel free to take your top off Jen. " He said and she laughed. Jen...he'd all of a sudden started calling her that after she'd taken a bullet for him.

"You wish Jethro, you wish. "

"It'd give me something to look at in this place. " He stated and she smirked. As night fell the attic didn't cool in the slightest but the boat quietened. However the attic was filled with tension between the both, the odd touch and look. She stood up to stretch and he walked over to her handing her a bottle of water. Only they were closer than he'd realise. Before either could realise what was happening his mouth was on hers - or was it the other way around? Neither was sure but that was their first kiss, and a heated one at that.

Jenny sat in the break room at the DC field office where she had first started out. She gazed out of the window and down at the naval yard, it seemed so quiet at night, a million miles away from hustle and bustle in the day time. It had been a week since she'd taken a bullet to the thigh and she'd had to be patched up in the bedroom with what little equipment they could gather. Now they were back and thankfully she hadn't blown the op too badly. Jethro was up with the director, the rest of NCIS was empty. She stood up and walked around, wincing at the pain as she put pressure on the wound. "Your meant to be resting it. " Said a gruff voice from the doorway.

"Jethro, I've been resting it for a week you wouldn't let me do anything for the op. I'm bored!"

He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her forehead. "You need to rest Jenny; we've got a lot more to be doing. "

"I know. When do we leave?"

"Two weeks. "

-two hearts forever intertwined-

Jenny and Jethro walked the streets of Paris hand in hand. They were undercover as a married couple and so they acted the way that they wished they could on a day to day basis back home. Slowly they walked the streets admiring the beauty of the city. Undercover meant they had to blend in and so that was what they did. Noticing a coffee shop on the side of the street the pair walked over. After getting their cardboards cups full they sat down at a table only the have the phone ring.

"Yeah. " Answered Gibbs.

"It's Decker. We've got intel that the recent police interest mean the ring is rustling a few feathers. "

"Last in first out. "

"Exactly my point. Train leaves for Serbia tonight, I want you on it. I'll text you the address of the farm house. Fully stocked with food, lay low until further notice. " With that the call was over. Gibbs turned to the red head.

" A week in Serbia lying low. " He said smiling and she laughed resting her head against him as he kissed her forehead.

-two hearts forever intertwined-

Jenny lay there memories of their time in Serbia laying low in the old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, then Paris where they were back to work and infiltration, Postianto where they'd been sent to recover as Jethro had been shot, London to gather more intel and back to Paris and undercover once more. The memories she loved washing over her. She remembered how amazing things were back then when they were younger and had the world at their finger tips, and how amazing things had been recently living the dream she had had ever since she left. She remembered the party's on the boat, the pools in which she had won or discovered were on her, the laughs she'd had with friends and family, the family time they'd spent together and their time together-just her and Jethro. It was strange that even though now she had realised she was in a coma she was still thinking about the future. Jenny realised that she was too old for this game now; getting blown up was not something she should be having done to her now. It was time to love the years left with the man she was so in love with, it was time to leave the Navy, and this time for good. If only she could fight this one last battle first.

Thanks, sorry about the length and that it was nothing special. Please review!
