Ducky had rung the team and told them exactly what had taken place as soon as he had come off the phone to Gibbs. Tony had at first been a little gruff and annoyed at the fact Ducky had prevented him from going to sleep but as soon as he had heard the word injured he'd grabbed a bag and called the rest of the team. Within an hour they were all at the airport, bags in hand and ready for an unknown amount of time and worry. As they walked in and booked seats on the next flight Abby was at the back silently crying into McGee's coat. Ziva wasn't crying yet her face looked like it was shocked and she wasn't quite with them. Tony guided her gently around and through security. She held his hand like it was a life line. Tony and McGee stayed strong but Ducky wasn't his usual story telling self, instead he sat by the window gazing out. It was as if a bomb shell had been dropped – literally. No one knew whether the woman they all loved was going to pull though this one, and that was scaring them all senseless.
The flight was quiet, Abby put earphones in a hope to gain some sense of normality. McGee planned and began to write a new book. Although they each took the mic out of his for it, it helped him deal with the things they all saw day to day. Tony and Ziva sat watching the film whilst Ducky sat reading.
Abby fell asleep gently in her seat as she remembered all the times with Jenny she had had. They weren't as close when she was director, but that put aside she'd always seen her as a mother figure. Subtly she'd helped Abby through things; she'd made her smile and see the opposite side of an argument. Since returning to the Navy Jenny had emailed Abby and her back, Abby was Jenny's informant so to speak at NCIS; she kept her up to date with the entire goings on. In return Jenny helped Abby with whatever it was she needed. Occasionally Abby would fall back on Jenny to get her extra resources on loan from other agencies. They had a mother and daughter relationship, and every time Jenny returned from duty they would go shopping together. In recent months Abby and McGee had fallen back into their old relationship and now it was blossoming. Everything was perfect, Jenny had been the one who had advised Abby to take the leap of faith and not worry about Gibbs. She'd been there for Abby to talk to. Abby's respect for the older red head had grown so much in the last few months and now Abby wasn't sure what she would do if this all came tumbling down around her feet.
McGee sat writing his book. He'd always been the one who was distanced from Jenny, yet since she'd left NCIS she'd become like a mother and a friend to him. Every time she wasn't away on duty, once a month they would meet up in a small backstreet café and have a coffee. He'd bring with him his latest book drafts and she would help him plot it out. Offer her opinions and criticisms. She'd so far brought him his best seller and remained a silent help. She didn't ask for any money in return even though he'd tried to give her some. She'd become like a friend who didn't judge. She offered him snippets from real events in her life to help him. The scenes undercover had been her work which he'd been more than grateful for. As he sat writing now he decided to make his next story reflect this situation, and slowly he wrote out the blurb for the book, something he always did first. "…she's the one person who had always been there, silently watching, guarding and nudging them all in the right direction, but what happens when she is the one who needs guarding…" McGee sighed as he gazed out of the window, if she went; he didn't think any of them would cope, so with a bitter sweet smile he wrote a dedication.
"To the real hero, in her darkest hours.
You guide us and help us, and are forever my silent inspiration"
Abby looked at the page as she woke up and smiled at Tim. He was a person few saw the real side of, but those who did learnt there was a lot more to him that just an MIT graduate. Across the Isle Tony watched the film, but didn't really take it in. Jenny had always seemed like she was invincible, like Gibbs but in some ways stronger. She was the only person he had ever known to stand up to their boss, she fought stronger than anyone else and got what she wanted. Tony admired her, and loved her like a son does his mother. He knew she was the backbone of their boss, and if she didn't pull through he knew there would be a lot of picking up of pieces to be done, and he knew they wouldn't fit together perfectly ever again.
Ziva sat by Tony, silently letting the memories of her time with Jenny wash over her. Back in Cairo they'd been so close, like sisters as they fought everyone off. But at NCIS the barriers that faced them were too strong and gradually they weren't as close. But recently Ziva had been able to see that her friend was attempting to become more of the family. And so they'd become close al over again. Jenny had told her to get with Tony, not to make to same mistakes that she had. And so gradually she'd allowed herself to get closer to Tony, she didn't know where it would end but for now she happy to simply enjoy the ride.
Ducky sat watching all of his friends, realising just how much this woman had influenced all their lives. She was the mother of the family Abby so wanted, the guide Tony and McGee needed, the best friend Ziva had lost, the daughter he'd never had and the love Jethro so needed. She was an incredible woman and as he fell asleep to the gentle hum of the plane's engines he remembered all the laughs they had had a lifetime ago when they were undercover.
-two hearts forever intertwined-
When they finally arrived in England it was afternoon and slowly they made their way to the hospital. The sight of her so pale took their breath away. Yet they stayed, like the family they were. At first they sat individually. McGee writing down the emotions he could not express, the rest simply remembering. But soon they united, Ducky told the stories he'd remembered from undercover, Ziva from Cairo. Tony quoted how things were like movies whilst Abby, Time and Gibbs sat listening. Jenny, in her comatose world occasionally became able to hear their voices and it made her sure she could fight this battle.
Hope it was okay! Come back to me reviewers!
