From 'the gift' by Cecelia Ahern - 'Time is more precious than gold, more precious than diamonds, more precious than oil or any valuable treasures. It is time that we do not have enough of; it is time that causes the war within our hearts, and so we must spend it wisely . . . Time can't be given. But it can be shared'

For Jenny and Gibbs, they'd spent a lifetime protecting their country, dedicating many moon to some sort of tour of duty whether it be with the Navy or the Corps, they'd spent years catching those who disrupted and hurt the everyday lives of the people who lived in the world. Months on end had been spent in cramped dirty conditions as they went undercover to protect thousands of civilian lives. It was the minority of their lives that they had spent time doing things for themselves, because they wanted to.

For Leroy Jethro Gibbs, the death of his wife and child had shaken him to his core leaving him a damaged man. He'd married again yet never loved until Jenny. He'd dedicated his life to his country just as she had. For Jennifer Shepard, it was the death of her father that left her wanting only one thing - revenge. She'd spent nearly two decades serving her country and changing lives. Over a decade had been spent with NCIS helping to give the justice that she'd never had to families. But she'd only ever loved one man: Jethro.

'Sometimes our dreams just aren't what life has planned' - home is where the heart is by Lady Antebellum.

He'd dreamt how his life would plan out once, under the stars of Kuwait one night. Planned out his life; how he was going to take his little girl horseback riding every summer on the beach of Mexico. How he and Shannon would watch her play in the garden. He'd dreamt of the day he'd beat up the boy who broke his little girls' heart. How on his and Shannon's 25th wedding anniversary he would take her back to where they had their honeymoon. On Kelly's wedding day he'd walk her down the isle before presenting her to her groom. Jethro had imagined his grandchildren and what he and Shannon would look like when they were old and grey. But then life had thrown his ugly foot in the way and they'd been gone, his dreams torn up. And none of his other marriages worked, yet then Jenny came along. And now he knew his dreams - although different - would come true; because he wasn't going to lose her.

Jenny had dreamt one night when she'd been on that marine base as a teenager how she'd like her life to go. She'd imagined how she'd spend her time serving on board a ship, work her way up the ranks, then push the Navy to one side and have a family. She'd thought of how she'd watch her children running around outside and tell them off for having mucky feet. How her husband would play with the children and their mingled laughter would fill the house. They'd have a family holiday somewhere hot every year, she'd put sun cream on her children's faces and help them build sandcastles. Then her father's death and come along, and all of a sudden those dreams of the perfect life were disposed of as she became consumed by the revenge of her father's death. Now though, with Jethro, even though she didn't have children, she had family, tony, Abby, McGee and Ziva were her kids. And very soon she'd have her husband too.

'Perfect people aren't real, real people aren't perfect. So you can love people for their flaws or hate them because they're not real' – unknown

Neither of them are perfect. He's a gruff former Marine who's a function mute, serial divorcee, and rubbish with words. She's a fiery red head used to being in control with a sharp temper, sarcastic flare and knows more long words than the English language does. They're both workaholics who'll drop everything for those they love. One paper they'd never work but in reality they're just right.

She loved how he shows her how he feels when words fail him. How his divorces give her something to joke about. But they're his flaws - without them he wouldn't be the man she was head over heels in love with.

He loves how he eyes darken when she's annoyed, how she'll throw a sarcastic comment into every conversation they have. And even though he has not a clue what she's saying he loves the long words that come falling elegantly from her lips. She's not perfect on paper but to him she's the mast perfect thing in the world.

'Author of the moment, can you tell me, do I end up, do I end up happy?' – Happily ever after by He Is We

As their final day in London came, bags stood packed in the corner of every room. Everyone knew this was the end of an era, yet in the same way the beginning of a new. Jenny was fully recovered, they mum was alive, well and smiling more than ever. Jethro was back to himself, and Tony had caught up on the amount of deserved head slaps. Ziva was back to threatening to kill people, and McGee was back to his writers block. Everything was a new sort of normal. One that would last a long time. And even with the knowledge Gibbs was leaving Abby wasn't upset because she knew that he'd come back to see her and so would Jenny. This was them taking the reins of their lives; this was them writing their own next chapter.

Jenny woke that morning to Jethro running his finger through her hair. The morning light shone in through the window and made her squint and the new brightness. The redhead snuggled into her fiancé's side with a grunt. Jethro laughed at Jenny. Even after years serving in the Navy with early mornings and late nights, she still hated getting up. It always made him laugh. Slowly he kissed her head until she looked up and he captured her lips. He loved moment like this, they both did. Moments when it was just the two of them, in the silence of the house before the madness began. Moments when they only had to thing about each other. A smile came to Jenny and Jethro's faces when they realised this was how it would be from now on.

The morning passed quickly as everyone made sure they had everything. Jenny and Jethro both only had a duffle bag each. Ducky as taking Jenny's dress uniform back to DC for her, and the rest of her cloths had been incinerated in the explosion; the only reason she had any cloths was because she'd gone shopping. So now it was a case of Abby running around looking for any dog collars she'd forgotten, Ziva checking her knives, Tony his DVD's whilst McGee sat writing knowing he'd packed everything the night before. In the rare moment Jenny sat down next to the younger man. "Tim, I just wanted to say thank you: for the dedication but also for being the backbone of the team whilst I was in my coma. You're a great agent, I truly mean that."

He smiled at her. "Thank you Jenny. I don't know what I'll do without you imput for my books."

"I'm sure you'll have plenty more inspirations for Deep Six."

"Actulaly, I've ended the series, it's time for a new era. New characters."

"Well good luck." She said and hugged him briefly. Gibbs came over and stood next to Jenny.

"McGee, don't let DiNozzo be a prat. Make sure you and Ziva head slap him in due need."

Ziva and tony came down the stair and she head slapped the Italian. "I will enjoy it Gibbs."

They all went out for lunch that day, small café. They shared stories, and as afternoon fell they made their way to the docks. Goodbyes were said but as the pair sailed away ready for a new life everyone smiled and wished them the best.

'Sometimes things aren't meant to last. They take a place in your heart and make you a little bit smarter for next time' – unknown

For both of these two lie hadn't been easy. They loved and lost and things simply took a place in their hearts only to go again. But now their future was certain, whatever was thrown at them on thing could be for sure, they'd face it together; because these were two hearts that would be forever intertwined.
