We see various city buildings, crowds of people walking the streets, and traffic on the roads.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. SHINONOME PARK - DAY
We see people enjoying their day at the park near Tokyo Bay. One happy, young boy is seen dragging her mother to the left off-screen.
Camera pans left to see a sports stadium near the center of the park and ZOOMS into the stadium.
CUT TO:
INT. SHINONOME PARK STADIUM - DAY
We see a crowd of people cheering on rows of bleachers, watching a basketball game between two different junior-high school teams. We then get introduced to MIKEY KUDO (14 years old, wearing goggles over brown spiky hair) who is dribbling past the opposing players.
? (O.S.)
Mikey, I'm open!
We then get introduced to an another player on Mikey's team: RICKY AKASHI (13 years old, wearing googles over brown hair with red tuft) who is running and frantically waves his arms.
Mikey shrugs and throws the ball at Ricky. Ricky tries to reach the ball but trips onto the ground and the ball hits his head.
RICKY
Ow!
We see a group of cheerleaders, representing the home team, giggling at Ricky's misfortune. Ricky gets up and rubs his noggin while his face turns embarrassingly red.
The cheerleaders then turn to the right off-screen and start blushing with awe. Camera pans right to introduce an another player on Mikey's team: EWAN AMANO (13 years, tall, blond hair).
EWAN
I got it!
Ewan catches the ball before an opposing player does, dribbles past two other players and scores for the team. The crowd and cheerleaders cheer with joy. Mikey runs up to Ewan.
MIKEY
All right! Another two points!
EWAN
Thanks, Mikey.
Ricky enters conversation.
RICKY
(rubbing his head)
Well, he couldn't done it without my brains.
MIKEY
(annoyed)
Ricky, did you forget to train before the game again?
RICKY
What?
(nervously)
...No?
EWAN
You'd probably miss spending time with Gumdramon.
RICKY
(boastful)
Oh, puh-lease? Haven't you all forgotten who saved the world from that dreadful Quartzmon...
Mikey and Ewan GROAN.
RICKY
(boastful)
...and become the most powerful Hunter of all-time?!
Mikey and Ewan hesitate to answer Ricky's answer. Ewan is about to answer.
RICKY (O.S.)
(interrupts)
Me! That's who!
Ewan coldly stares at Ricky.
MIKEY
Guys, focus!
They both turn to Mikey.
MIKEY
We have a game in our hands!
The boys resume playing on the court. Camera then pans right to a group of characters sitting and watching on the second row bleachers: ANGIE HINOMOTO (13 years old, red hair), JEREMY TSURGI (13 years old, dark brown hair), CHRISTOPHER AONUMA (14 years old, blond hair) and Ewan's sister NENE (14 years old, light brown hair).
ANGIE
Wow, Mikey's doing great!
JEREMY
(uninterested)
Hmm...I've seen better. I've been training harder than that bozo since the Quartzmon incident. My Digimon and kendo fighting skills are far superior to his basketball skills...
Angie slowly becomes enraged while Jeremy continues rambling off-camera.
JEREMY (O.S.)
...I mean, seriously. Mikey Kudo has another thing coming. You wanna know why? Because our rivalry will always be eternal! That's the code of-
ANGIE
(enraged)
Will you please...
Angie slugs Jeremy down in the noggin.
ANGIE
(enraged)
...be quiet?!
Christopher smirks and chuckles on the remark.
CHRISTOPHER
Boy, did I pick a good day to see a basketball game. Like the half-time show.
Nene is finishing typing her schedule on her P.D.A.
NENE
Guys, settle down. I didn't take my weekend off from my tour in Hong Kong to see you guys arguing. This is Ewan and Mikey's big game. Let's try to be more supportive. I mean, do you know long it took them to make it into the semi-finals?
Jeremy gets back on his set while feeling the bump on his noggin.
ANGLE: BASKETBALL COURT
We see a male sports announcer sitting on a desk, watching the action.
ANNOUNCER
Ladies and gentlemen, it's seems this year's game is at a tie.
We see a timer on the stadium ceiling, displaying fifteen seconds left on the last quarter.
ANNOUNCER (O.S.)
And with fifteen seconds left on the clock, which team will move up to the finals?
We see Mikey and his basketball team huddling up.
ANNOUNCER (O.S.)
Will it be our home team from Central Junior High: the Fusion Fighters?
Camera pans left to the opposing team across the court.
ANNOUNCER (O.S.)
...or the visiting team, the Fiery Dragons?
ANGLE: FUSION FIGHTERS HUDDLING
MIKEY
Okay, guys. You know the plan, right?
TEAMMATES
Right.
MIKEY
Good. Break!
We see the referee blowing his whistle and the timer starts.
ANGLE: EWAN ON THE COURT
Ewan is holding the ball but a couple of opposing players block him. Ricky is open in the court.
RICKY
Ewan!
Ewan passes the ball to Ricky. Ricky runs and passes through a few players while dribbling the ball. Mikey is signaling to Ricky. A overconfident Ricky ignores Mikey and continues on. Mikey looked disappointed upon his teammate's action. Ricky is about to score but an opposing player knocks off his shot.
MIKEY
Hang on, Rick!
Mikey catches the ball and dribbles past through the toughest players.
ANGLE: TIMER
We see the timer displaying a few seconds left and the audience's eyes got glued to the suspense. Mikey throws the ball.
BEGIN SLOW-MOTION
THE BALL IS THROWN THROUGH THE AIR. ANGIE AND THE OTHERS WERE OBSERVING THE SUSPENSEFUL ACTION. THE TIMER ALMOST REACHES ZERO. THE BALL IS NEAR THE BASKET.
END SLOW-MOTION
Mikey hears something from off-screen.
MIKEY
Huh?
SFX: DIGITAL BEEPING
We suddenly see random numbers scrambling over the timer.
ANGLE: MAN ON BLEACHER
MAN #1
What's going on?
The man hears the digital beeping and checks his phone. We see random numbers also scrambling across the man's phone screen.
MAN #1 (O.S.)
Hey, my phone's acting up!
WOMAN #1 (O.S.)
Mine too!
We then see the ceiling lights start flickering on and off. Angie and the others were observing the lights.
ANGIE
...Whoa.
The whole stadium starts shaking like an earthquake. The rest of the audience looks nervous and confused. A cowardly Jeremy hides under his seat.
JEREMY
Earthquake! Duck and cover!
ANGLE: BASKETBALL COURT
ANNOUNCER
Uh, folks, I believe we're having technical diff-
The announcer's microphone starts cracklnig electricity and the announcer runs off like the dickens, screaming. Ewan looks around the court.
EWAN
(calling out)
Nene!
NENE
(calling out)
Ewan!
RICKY
Mikey, what the heck is going on?!
MIKEY
I don't know!
We suddenly then see the stadium ceiling started cracking open and crumbling down. Many of the people hide under their bleachers to avoid the falling debris. After the ceiling finishes collapsing, we see smoke covering out in the open.
ANGLE: CHRISTOPHER
Christopher emerges from his hiding spot and looks up at the hole.
JEREMY (O.S.)
Is the drill over?
CHRISTOPHER
No...
(squinting)
I see something.
Mikey and the others look up at the open hole.
MIKEY
What is it?
We see two silhouettes in the smoke as the smoke starts fading away.
