At night:

It was almost time for the attack, so Maria stepped out of the main tent and went to where the men were located.

Altaïr looked at her and she smiled.

"How it is going to be?" She asked him, when she approached.

"We are going to enter the fortress by the entrance you said, while the archers are going to use arrows and ropes to climb the walls…" Altaïr explained to her. "They are going now and we wait a little longer… the Templars will hear the explosion our group will create and the Arches will kill them…"

Maria nodded. Altaïr turned to the men.

"Go…" He said.

The archers picked up their stuff and went away.

"Now we wait a little…" Hassam said.

"No, let's go to the entrance…" Altaïr said.

Maria showed the way to the secret passage she knew. It was maze through the sewers and they had torches to indicate the way…

She stopped in a crossing, then went right. They walked a few meters and encountered a closed gate.

"This will lead to two places: the main courtyard and in a deposit…" Maria said to Altaïr. "There are two guards inside…"

"Don't worry… the explosion will kill them…" Altaïr said.

She stepped aside and Altaïr broke the gate by kicking it. They entered and got upstairs and walked into a corridor till they encountered an iron door. Rashid helped Altaïr to put the powder at the foot of the door and make a way to where they were hiding. Altaïr then lit the powder, they protect themselves and soon there was an explosion.

Altaïr looked at Maria in his arms and nodded.

As all the Assassins, minus Altaïr, Maria and Rashid, entered the fortress, they could hear shouting from the Templars somewhere inside the fortress.

The three of then went to find the catapults. Maria thought she knew where they were and took them to the deposit.

The deposit was one big room, three stores tall. Once inside, they found three catapults built and another one being built.

"They would attack us soon…" Rashid said, after he examined them.

Altaïr nodded. He didn't said anything, just picked the torch he was holding and started to burn them. The fire quickly spread to the others and the room soon was lit.

"Let's get out of here…" Altaïr said.

Maria and Rashid followed him to the courtyard, where they fought with the Templars.

The three of them drew their swords and started to fight what left of the Templars. The fight wasn't hard, since the Assassins were in a bigger number and the easily win.

"Our job here is finished…" Altaïr said, after the win. "Good work, brothers…"

The Assassins nodded and some started to loot some Templar stuff…

While they were coming back, tired and somewhat hurt, Altaïr and Maria stopped to see the fire on the fortress. It already consumed all, transforming the night in day.

"What?" Altaïr asked Maria.

"I'm finally free…" She said. "And my family is revenged, but… why I don't feel happy?"

"There's no beauty on death, Maria…" Altaïr said. "We kill because we fight for the people's rights for freedom… freedom of the same oppression the Templars proclaimed it was order…"

Maria nodded.

"Yeah…" She said. "I was so blind to not see that…"

"Don't blame yourself for that…" Altaïr said.

Maria looked at him.

"Come on…" He said smiling a little. "Let's go home…"

Maria nodded and he put an arm around her.
