You are now Phaedra.
Never before have you been so inconvenienced, so humiliated, so absolutely mortified. Why on Earth was this happening to you? Stuff like this only happened in cheesy romantic comedies, or raunchy courtship novels about two oblivious adults. It most certainly did NOT occur in real life. Yet, here it was, happening in YOUR life. What are the fucking odds?
Here you are, having what you'd like to call a meeting, at the home of the boy who'd basically rejected you just this morning. Said meeting involves you, your older brother, and the older brother of the aforementioned boy. Had the situation ended there, perhaps you wouldn't be so troubled right now, but unfortunately for you, it had not. Apparently you'd been targeted by the universe for a year now without any indication.
You suppose this could've been avoided, had you actually talked to the infamous Cronus dating your brother, but at the time there was really no reason to. He was simply a boy in a relationship with your brother, and you'd seen no reason to interfere. Now you wish you'd interfered, maybe even just a little. It would have saved you a significant amount of grief, no doubt.
Personally, you don't see an issue with them dating. They're happy together, and Cronus seems to treat Ayexis with the utmost respect, which is good enough for you, but there's still one thing bothering you. Judging by their attitudes towards one another, their relationship will be continuing for quite some time. Ordinarily you would support this, but you can't help the selfish thoughts creeping into your mind.
With the combination of them dating AND suddenly involving you, you're certain that there will be confrontations. Not physical ones, of course, but awkward ones with the boy you currently had feelings for. Now, you've always been pretty chill around exes, but this was different. First off, he isn't even actually an ex, and the fact that you aren't sure how to classify him just concerns you even more. Secondly, he was, and continues to be, different. That's the only way you know how to put it, despite it's cliche overusage.
Teasing him had become a custom that you didn't want to give up, as had every other interaction involving the offensive dork. There was something about him that gave your high school life purpose and, you had hoped with time, would eventually provide the same for your life in general. He was special, and not because you liked him, but because nothing about him was basic.
His eyes weren't a common brown or recurrent blue: they were amber, something rare and beautiful that you'd never seen on another person. His hair wasn't a typical, fluffy black: it was an onyx silk, seemingly styled from the darkened night sky itself. And that violet streak? It was more than hair coloration: it was a royal purple carpet only he could walk down, demanding attention and awe from those who saw it.
Although, despite his enchanting good looks, it was his attitude that'd truly drawn you in. Anyone can have a face that defies poetic justice, but it was his inner self that really topped it all off. Upon first impression, one might think Ampora nothing more than a selfish asshole. Now, don't get it wrong: he was definitely both of those things, but not as much as one would think. He possessed a certain kindness buried within that you'd caught glimpses of. Little glitches in his temper, faults in his snark, wavers in his voice. And yet, it was not even this kindness that made you want him.
It was his grace.
Not grace as in how he danced, but grace as in how he presented himself. He held himself in such high regards, not because he needed people to adore him, but because he actually believed he was better than them. It was more than just confidence: it was full blown arrogance with a twist, and you loved it. You admired how puny others were in comparison to him, not because of wealth or size, but because he was simply superior.
Eridan Ampora was, in every respect, a king worthy of his throne.
And you had been foolish enough to think he would come down from it for you. Realistically, you should be upset with him, but you know that's not a possibility right now. You're still far too into him, and you aren't entirely sure how long it will last. Even then, you don't WANT to be mad at him. Any bad blood between you and him could result in issues for Cronus and Ayexis, which you couldn't stand to be the cause of. You suppose you'll just have to grin and bear it.
"Wwhat the fuck is goin' on here?"
Starting now.
"Aye champ, I'm glad you could join us! Vwhy don'tcha take a seat over on the recliner? I'd like ya to meet somebody," Cronus says, completely oblivious to both your history and Ampora's attitude. You don't bother turning around to look at him, knowing that if you do, you'll ruin any chance you have at putting everything behind you. Right now, just one look could crush you.
You look up at the ceiling when you hear footsteps, assuming that Ampora is taking his brother's advice and sitting in the white recliner just ten feet away from your hanging chair. Then, out of the corner of your eye, you see movement. Nothing specific, but enough to know that he's there and sitting now.
"Lovely~! I'm Ayexis, and I've been dating your handsome brother here for a year now~! Oh it's so nice to finally meet you Eridan, I've heard so much about you~!" your brother says innocently, completely unaware of how much hearing his name hurts. You inwardly scold yourself for caring about a person you've only known a few days. Damn you're pathetic.
"I'd also like ya to meet Phaedra over there in the red chair. She's Ayexis' lil' sister," Cronus goes on, and you can't believe how much you wanna punch him in the face. You quickly remind yourself that it's not his fault and brace yourself, turning just the slightest so it looks like you're addressing him. Your eyes don't leave the ceiling.
"Look, I'm not about to play this game Cro. I already knoww her, you knoww I knoww her, and frankly you're bein' a fuckin' dick. More so than usual," Eridan says with a certain huffiness in his voice, and you're taken aback by this shocking revelation. Cronus already knew? Then why would he bother with introductions like that and insist that Eridan join their meeting?
"Vwell then, if ya already knovw her, then vwhy ain't ya talked to her yet?" Cronus challenges, and it's only at this point that you can hear the condescending quality of his voice. That bastard was enjoying this. You cease boring a hole into the ceiling and instead bore one into the side of Cronus' head, seeing as he's currently facing Eridan. You hope an actual hole forms.
"You knoww damn wwell wwhy, noww stop!" Eridan snaps, nearly shouting at his older brother. You see Ayexis lean over a little and you're certain he's whispering something. Whatever it was causes Cronus' look of smugness to dissolve into something you could only describe as regret, and when Ayexis pulls away, he looks mildly upset.
"Now look kids, you're being really dumb with your choices," Ayexis says, darting his eyes to both you and Ampora as he speaks, then lets them settle solely on the latter, "Eridan, I know I don't really know you, but from what Cronus has told me, you're acting like a toddler. I mean honestly~! You come home after undoubtedly hurting my darling Phaedra over something stupid and complain about it to your brother~? What on Earth is wrong with you boy~!?"
You become a bit confused by what your brother has said, but before you can get out any questions, he's focusing on you.
"And Phaedra, sweetheart, complacency has never been your thing so I'm begging you: stop. You ignorant girl, you should've fought for him~! Why would you just let him leave you like that~? Did you even ask him WHY~?"
You nod your head in the negative, and he sighs.
"I swear, nobody in your generation knows how to talk things out anymore. In the age of communication, no one actually communicates: what a pity~!" he continues, visibly troubled by that fact. Unsure of what to say, you remain silent. Neither of the Ampora's speak either. A moment passes before Ayexis is fed up and says something else.
"Apparently they don't know how to take a hint either~! Talk you idiots~! Eridan, tell Phaedra why you suddenly weren't interested. Phaedra, tell Eridan how you feel~! Reassure the boy, fight for him, make him yours already, damn~!"
You hear Eridan sigh to the left of you, and you know that eye contact is a must right now, despite every part of you screaming no. You shift in your chair a bit to better face him and then meet his gaze, which sends your heart aflutter. You're certain he gulps soon after, but you aren't entirely sure and just wait for him to speak. Finally, he does.
"Um… Phae, I didn't wwanna date ya or nothin' cause it'd be wweird," he says, which does nothing to make you feel any better about the situation.
"Go on tvwerp," Cronus insists, and Eridan just sort of blinks repeatedly before doing as he's told.
"Ugh, it'd be wweird because our fuckin' brothers are datin' and I'm pretty sure that's like basically incest," he says, rolling his eyes and huffing once he finishes speaking. Your eyes widen like a deer in headlines as what he says registers. Once it does, you look at him incredulously and admittedly, you're kinda really fucking annoyed right now. All this because of something as pointless as THAT?
"Are you fucking serious Ampora? You make me all sad and junk over stupid shit that means literally nothing? Jesus, how dumb can you even be!? You should've AT LEAST told me why this morning. At least then we could've figured out a way around it, but nah, you had to be all weird about it. So what they're dating? It's not incest if we do because one, they aren't married and two, we aren't related by blood. God damn you're dumb as hell!" you rant, but at this point you've gotten most of your anger out. You start to think about everything that led up to this and realize that, from another perspective, this was really dumb and kinda funny. It was actually extremely funny, and because of this you start to laugh. Everyone looks at you like you've gone insane, but hey, maybe that's what knowing Eridan does to ya.
"For fuck's sake Ampora," you start, smiling at the confused boy, "you really had me going. Now, why don't you stop being such an asshole and get your ass over here so you can sit with me? It ain't fair that my brother gets to snuggle and I don't."
When Eridan makes no effort to get up, you remember what your brother said about fighting and chill the fuck out.
"Look, I know it weirds you out, but I really like you, ok? Like, a lot, and I'd kinda like to get my cuddle on despite the fact that you're dressed like a pompous ass, so will you pretty freaking please come sit with me in this super cool chair?" you plead, or at least, it's the closest you'll probably ever get to pleading. Much to your satisfaction, this time Eridan complies and walks over to you, but he doesn't get in the chair with you. Instead, he scoops you up in his arms, despite your protesting and squirming.
"Wwould ya stop fuckin' refusin? I'm tryin' to do one a them romantic gesture things that ya see in mowies and shit," he says, readjusting you so he doesn't drop you. You cease your squirming and allow him to simply carry you. At first, you aren't sure where you're going, but then you remember that the theatre room is this way and that's probably his destination. You smile, hoping to watch another horror movie because they're probably the best thing ever. Besides Ampora, of course, but you probably won't tell him that.
Sure enough, you're now in the theatre room and being carefully set down in his lap as he sits in one of the plush chairs. He reaches underneath an armrest for some reason, and in minutes the butler dude from the other day is there. He gives a curt nod before sticking his nose in the air, and you decide that only Eridan makes that look hot.
"Find a horror mowie and play it for us," Eridan orders the butler, who obeys without any hesitation at all. He doesn't even look down on you this time, awesome! When he does as asked and leaves the room, you decide to figure out what's going on, seeing as no actual explanation was ever offered.
"Not that I don't love this, but what exactly is… Well, this?" you ask, looking at him as his wraps his arms protectively around you. He shrugs, then places a quick kiss on your cheek that sorta shocks you. Then he just looks at the movie screen before responding with nonchalance.
"I just decided that for once I wwas wwrong and I guess I wwouldn't mind spendin' time wwith ya, ewen though our brothers are datin' and you're terrible. But then again, I'm pretty terrible myself, so I suppose that's ok. Oh ya, and I like ya too, but don't go makin' a big deal out of it. I don't need one a them owerdramatic girlfriends wwho freak out wwhen they see me. I'm already plannin' on bein' that kinda boyfriend, so ya, I got dibs. Deal," he rambles, and you're filled with so much happiness that it's kinda overwhelming.
You keep staring at him long after he finishes talking, paying the movie no mind. Finally he looks at you with an irritated expression, though you know he's not really mad at you. He's just a sour sport like that.
"You're cute when you're acting like you aren't practically obsessed with me," you say simply, kissing him full on the lips as compensation for the earlier bullshit today. When you pull away, he's looking at you with what could only be described as a dazed expression and it makes you giggle for the second time since you've met the fag.
"Fuck I think I lowe you Phae," he says, still in awe and the sight of him being so adorable makes you wanna kiss him again. So ya do, and then ya do it again, only on his forehead.
"I think I might just love ya too buddy, but let's chill on that shit for awhile cause it ain't been very long since we first met," you say, wary of getting super serious right off the bat. He frowns and loosens his hold on you.
"That ain't fair," he says, and you laugh. You guess he's right, so you squeeze him tight and plant butterfly kisses on his neck, to which he croons. You kiss your way up to his ear, enjoying the way his breath would hitch with every brush of lips against skin.
"In that case, fine. I love ya loser, and I'll say it proudly even though we've known each other for such a short time. Whatever'll make you happy," you say, overjoyed when he smiles at you. It makes you blush: fuck you just love his smile so much.
"You're so cute wwhen you're giwin' in to my demands, wwhich should literally be alwways if ya knoww wwhat's good for ya," he states with a smirk, to which you nearly bust the fuck up laughing. You nearly think, Is this guy serious!?, but then you remember who you're dealing with and smirk: of course he is.
"As you say, Master," you joke, pleased when he tightens his hold around you. You do the same and bury your face in his chest, every now and then kissing the fabric of his shirt and wishing it weren't there.
"I just wwant you to knoww, I still think it's wweird as fuck for us to date wwhen our brothers are," he begins, to which you scold him lightly, "Wwould ya let me finish before ya start gettin' upset? Ugh, I wwas GONNA say it wwas wweird, but that's ok because bein' wwith you is wweirdly amazin' in ewery wway."
Yet again, you blush, glad things are going the way they are. You decide that he's officially given you that general life purpose you'd been pondering.
Alright so this is long. Like, way longer than my chapters usually are, and I'm not sure why. Um despite the fact that they're together, I will not be ending the story until I've at least gotten through all of their detentions, seeing as that was the original plot thingy. Everything was supposed to take place in detention, but meh, I changed my mind severely. Hope this was still good c:
