Song: Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran
When your legs don't work like they used to before
And I can't sweep you off of your feet
Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love?
Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks?
And, darling, I will be loving you 'til we're 70
And, baby, my heart could still fall as hard at 23
And I'm thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways
Maybe just the touch of a hand
Well, me—I fall in love with you every single day
And I just wanna tell you I am
So honey now
Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars
Place your head on my beating heart
I'm thinking out loud
That maybe we found love right where we are
When my hair's all but gone and my memory fades
And the crowds don't remember my name
When my hands don't play the strings the same way
I know you will still love me the same
'Cause honey your soul could never grow old, it's evergreen
And, baby, your smile's forever in my mind and memory
I'm thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways
Maybe it's all part of a plan
Well, I'll just keep on making the same mistakes
Hoping that you'll understand
But, baby, now
Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars
Place your head on my beating heart
Thinking out loud
That maybe we found love right where we are
So, baby, now
Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars
Oh, darling, place your head on my beating heart
I'm thinking out loud
That maybe we found love right where we are
Oh, baby, we found love right where we are
And we found love right where we are
Tris was sitting with her granddaughter at the table and together they were painting with water colors. She was admiring the five-year old child, who's got eyes dark blue as her mothers, who got her eyes from her father, Tris' husband. It was the days like these she enjoyed the most, when her first and only grandchild, Penelope, came to visit her grandparents. She was such a sweet little girl, generous and caring. She always helped them if they needed anything.
Then they heard the front door open and Penelope's eyes immediately widened as she ran to great the only person that could possibly be at the door. Tobias.
"Grandpa!" Tris heard as she made her way to greet her husband. When she walked in to the hallway she was met by the cutest thing ever. Her husband was crouching down, ignoring the pain in his knees that she knew he felt, as he hugged their granddaughter. Her arms were wrapped around his neck and he smiled the smile that Tris once fell in love with. The smile he gave her when they first met, when they first kissed, when they got married, when he got to hold their newborn baby in his arms for the first time. She realized that he saved that smile for only his family and closest friends.
"Grandma and I were just painting!" Penelope told her grandfather as he stood up and took her small hand in his big one. "I made one for you!" Before anyone of them got the chance to answer she ran to the kitchen, leaving the two of them alone.
"Hey, love" Tobias said as he walked to his wife, embracing her in his arms. Tris always loved the feeling she got when she was in his arms, it's the same feeling she felt when they were young. Their feelings for each other never died, they only got bigger.
"How are they feeling?" Tris asked, referring Zeke and Shauna, who were a couple they'd known since they were young. They had just found out that they were going to be grandparents for the third time and they were both very exited.
"They're great" Tobias answered and smiled. He was going to say something more but they were interrupted by the sound of small feet quickly running over the floor.
"Look!" She put up the paper for her grandfather to see. It was a picture of the three of them and they were all holding hands with big smiled on their faces. It was a really nice picture, but it was clear a smaller artist had made it.
"You made it?" Tobias asked with a big smile on his face. Penelope nodded and Tobias gave her a kiss on the forehead. "It's beautiful! I'll put it on the fridge immediately"
Tobias walked with Penelope to the kitchen and Tris admired them. She had never thought that she would ever be so lucky to have such an amazing husband that cared for his family and loved them more than anything. She was truly lucky.
It was late and Penelope's parents had picked her up earlier this evening. She had cried a little but Tobias told her that both he and Tris would come and visit the day after, since they didn't live far away from each other.
"Tobias?" Tris said. She didn't know if he had fallen asleep, but she wanted to talk a little, she wasn't really tired.
"Yes?" He said as he turned around to face her. They were both lying on their sides and he took her hand and brought it to his lips, kissing the ring on her finger that represented their love. "What's the matter?"
"It's nothing, I just want to talk" She gave him a smile, which he returned. She put her hand on his cheek and brought their lips together. They still showed affection towards each other, even after more than forty years together. But she didn't mind, she loved his touch.
"When did you first know that you loved me?" she asked him. He put his hand over hers and he kissed her again.
"You've asked me that question over hundred times" he said and she chuckled.
"I know," she said. "But I want to hear it again" He then laid on his back and drew her closer to him. Her head was lying on his chest and their fingers were intertwined on his stomach.
"The first time I knew," he began. "was on that night when we were supposed to dance for the final show..."
(FLASHBACK, 46 YEARS AGO)
Tris had never been this nervous before. She had danced in front of people thousand of times, but the difference was that tonight she was dancing with him. The very attractive man who also was one of the best dancers in this country. She was also a very talented dancer, and that's how they ended up dancing together. It was a fun TV show where famous dancers competed against each other. Tris got paired up with Tobias.
Tonight was the final and it was just some minutes left until they would dance their last dance together. They had practiced for it the whole week and during this week Tris realized that the feeling she felt for Tobias were feelings that she'd never felt before. They were some really strong feelings.
"Hey, you ready?" She looked up as she heard the voice and she saw Tobias standing in front of her. Just him standing so close to her made her chest beat fast against her ribcage. He looked down at her with his dark blue eyes that she loved so much.
"Yeah, just nervous" she said. She was also sad, because after this night she would probably never see him again.
"Don't be," he said as he gave her a hug. She hoped he couldn't feel her heartbeat against his chest. "You're amazing and I'll be with you the whole time" He pulled away and gave her a smile. What he didn't know was that he was the reason why she was so nervous. She prayed that she wouldn't embarrass herself in front of him.
Before she knew it they were standing in the middle of the dance floor, waiting for the music to start. He gave her a smile that slightly calmed her. Through out the whole competition they had been the favorites, the once that the media wrote the most about, the once that people talked about the most. They talked about how good their chemistry was and how they wanted them together. Tobias would always tell her how much he hated those articles, which only made her hopes that he liked her back die.
The music started and their bodies started to dance together. The song was Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran, a beautiful song that made Tris' heart swoon with feeling for this man she was dancing with.
Normally when they danced Tobias would smile at her. But tonight his expression was serious and it seemed like he was deep in thoughts all the time. She desperately wanted to know what he was thinking.
Their moves were elegant and beautiful as they swirled around the dance floor. Her right hand was in his left, while the other one was on the back of his neck, when it was supposed to be on his shoulder. His hand laid on her waist and it brought her close to him. They were staring in to each other's eyes, blue meeting blue. No one of them could look away, and no one of them seemed to mind it.
The music ended too soon and they finished the dance, forehead against forehead. Tris closed her eyes and when she heard the audience applaud she opened them. To her surprise Tobias was already looking at her and she smiled at him. He returned the smile before slowly leaning in. For a second she thought he was going to kiss her but he only gave her a peck on the tip of her nose. She was slightly dissapointed, but she quickly put on a smile before facing the judges, who told them how much they enjoyed the performance. During the whole time they were talking Tobias had a hand on her waist as he stood next to her.
They got of the stage, holding hands, and waving at the audience and camera. When Tris knew that no one could see them anymore she stopped and let out a sigh of relief. She made it through the dance without making a fool out of herself.
"You were awesome!" Tobias exclaimed as he wrapped his arms around her waist and she returned the hug by putting her arms around his neck. She loved how they fitted so well when they hugged, despite their difference in height. The top of her head was just under his chin normally, but since she was wearing heels now she could easily put her head in the crook of his neck. That was something she loved doing, she had realized.
"You too" she said and he tightened his grip around her waist. They didn't let go of each other and she was grateful for that. She never wanted to let go of him, which only reminded her that this would be one of their last embraces and she felt her eyes tear up. Before she could control it she felt the tears running down her face. She quietly sobbed and that made Tobias pull away slightly, looking at her with concerned eyes.
"What's wrong?" he asked her. Her eyes were still leaking and he brought his hand up to her face and wiped the tears with his thumbs. She looked down, embarrassed that she cried like this infront of him. But he only made her look into his eyes again, which was easy for him because her cheeks were still embraced by his hands. "Tell me" he said. The look his eyes gave her, loving and caring, gave her the courage to open her moth and speak up.
"It's just that after tonight it's all over..." she said and she knew that he knew that wasn't everything that bothered her. "...and that I'll probably never see you again" For some reason the tears fell more after she said that and she prepared herself to hear him tell her how silly she was, crying over a thing like that. It probably didn't bother him that he'd never meet her again.
"Who said we'll never meet again?" he asked her as he put one hand on her hip and the other one under her chin. He brought her closer to him and he tilted her face up slightly. She was now staring into his dark eyes. He leaned in closer so that they were both breathing the same air, if only Tris had remembered how to breath. "I really hope that you don't think this is the last time we see each other," he looked in her eyes and her heart beat so fast she was scared it would jump out of her chest. "I actually hope that I'll be in your future" With that he pressed his lips against hers and her chest burst from happiness. She was a little surprised at first but she quickly realized what was happening as she kissed him back.
It was difficult for her to function, the only thing she could think of was his lips on hers. They were so soft and they moved together perfectly. Soon their tongues were dancing as the two of them were dancing just some minutes ago, like they were made for each other.
She put her arms around his neck and his arms were around her waist. There was no space between them, still she felt like they weren't close enough.
They had to pull away, but their foreheads were resting against each other. They were both breathing heavily as they looked in each others eyes. Slowly, she could see a smile form on his lips and she smiled widely back.
"I'll let you be in my future, if you allow me to be in your" she said and he gave her a kiss again before speaking quietly so only her ears could hear.
"We're each other's future"
(END OF FLASHBACK)
"And that's when I knew that I loved you" he said and she smiled before looking up at him. She leaned in and gave him a kiss, which he gladly returned.
They talked a little about how their lives have been after that, after they won the competition. They re-experienced happy memories and Tris was so glad to know that she had done all of those things with Tobias, the love of her life.
Then, when neither of them had spoken for a while and Tris almost thought that her husband had fallen asleep he started singing their song. The song that made them realize their love for one another, the song they first danced to as husband and wife, the song that they have kept closest to their hearts.
"When your legs don't work like they used to before
And I can't sweep you off of your feet
Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love?
Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks?.."
As he sang the lovely lyrics she knew that she'd always love this man deeply.
