A/N: SLEEPING AT LAST! AGAIN! I'm so excited to write a chapter from my favorite album! This song is called Saturn and it's pretty sad, or I believe that it is. So this chapter will be pretty sad. I actually had planned to publish this chapter first, but I didn't want everyone to immediately hate me. A reason why I want to write a little sadder chapter is because everything in life is not joyful and light, there's also some darkness and pain. I hope you understand and that you'll enjoy this chapter!:)
Song: Saturn by Sleeping at Last
You taught me the courage of stars before you left.
How light carries on endlessly, even after death.
With shortness of breath, you explained the infinite.
How rare and beautiful it is to even exist.
I couldn't help but ask
For you to say it all again.
I tried to write it down
But I could never find a pen.
I'd give anything to hear
You say it one more time,
That the universe was made
Just to be seen by my eyes.
I couldn't help but ask
For you to say it all again.
I tried to write it down
But I could never find a pen.
I'd give anything to hear
You say it one more time,
That the universe was made
Just to be seen by my eyes.
With shortness of breath, I'll explain the infinite
How rare and beautiful it truly is that we exist.
In life, you experience light and darkness. Tobias believes that everyone prefers the light, but the truth is, without the darkness we wouldn't know the light. There's a quote from one of Tobias' favorite books that says: 'Without pain how could we know joy?". Tobias loves that quote since he can really see the truth in it. If life only consisted of light and happiness then nothing would stand out, not the great moments that you experienced. Everything would just blurr into light, that eventually would blurr so much that the only thing that would exist was darkness. But with darkness in your life, all of the good times stood out more than ever and it was those moments that Tobias remembered from her. The happy and the good once.
He was lying in the grass, the night sky was over him and the stars shone more than ever over him. It wasn't a surprise since she was among them now. He knew that she was watching him from above, she had told him herself. Even thought he had told her that everything would be alright and that she would never leave him, he knew that was lies. Tris' body had already consisted of more cancer than anything else. It had hurt both her and him.
Before she left him, the same day as she had left, she had told him something that he would remember for life. She said that life is something that you should take advantage of, because you never know when it will end. Both of them could already tell that her life was slowly trickling out of her body. She had told him that the time they had together the last years of her life was something she wouldn't trade for the world. She had truly lived her life together with him, with the love that they both had for each other.
Infinity had always been one of Tris' favorite words. 'Infinity', she would say. 'Is an abstract concept describing something without any limit'. She would always talk about how nothing is infinite, not life, not love and not even stars. She had said the same things to him during her last hours on earth.
"I'll be watching over you, Tobias" she said. "But you won't see me, because i'll be a star. And you know that I'll always be there, even if you can't see me" Tears had covered Tobias cheeks as he held her small and cold hand against his cheek.
"But stars aren't infinite, you said it yourself" She smiled at his words with love in her tired eyes.
"But the universe is, and the stars are a part of the universe. You know that, baby" He had looked at her, knowing that this would be the last conversation they would ever have together. He didn't want to believe it, he didn't want it to be truth. But he knew that nothing was infinite, not life, not love.
He had leaned in and he had softly tuched his lips against hers in a loving kiss. Their last kiss. As they pulled back he saw tears glistering in her eyes, that with the sickness had turned to a grey color. They were still the most beautiful thing Tobias had ever seen.
"I love you so much" he said to her, his voice thick from crying. "Please don't leave me, please" He begged her not to go, but he knew it was for vain. She tried to speak, but her voice was so low that he had to lean in closer to hear her. Her words made him cry even more.
"I love you Tobias," she said, struggling to get the words out. "Not many things are infinite, but my love for you will never die. Our love is the universe, and the universe is the same thing as infinity" He took her hand in his and he saw the last bit of life leave her as she gave him a small smile. Then she was gone.
At the same time as it was one of the bad memories, it was also one of the greater once. That was a memory that would stay with him for forever.
As he now looked up at the stars he remembered how the two of them would lie under the stars together, talking about everything and anything. They would always joke around with each other, sometimes they would kiss. Their love story started early, when she was eighteen and he was twenty. They met at a night like this, when the stars watched over them. It was a party at the beach with a big campfire in the middle. He had watched her from one side of the fire and then suddenly when their eyes met, they both knew that it was something special. They had talked to one another the whole night, getting to know each other. They still held the contact even after the party. Soon enough they were a couple, a couple that loved each other more than anything.
That was ten years ago and during those ten years they managed to do a lot of things. Their love hit many different goals. Such as first kiss, first time, first fight, first heartbreak. He remembered how happy they were when they found an apartment together and how they celebrated their new place on a way that only two people that love each other should do. They were pretty intimate that evening. He thought of the time when he proposed and their wedding. She had been twenty-three and he had been twenty-five. It was a young marriage, but it was also a strong relationship. Two years after the wedding they welcomed a new little life to the world. A small baby girl with the name of Hope. She had lost her mother when she was only three years.
It hurt Tobias to know that he and Tris wouldn't grow old together, that Tris wouldn't be able to experience their daughter growing up. She would only be able to watch them from above, she'd always be there for them.
"Hey, love" Tobias said to the sky, hoping that she could hear him. "I hope you're happy up there, that you're not in pain anymore" He paused for a minute before he continued. "We both miss you so much, we wish that you were here with us. It's difficult for Hope to sleep on her own, so she comes to me at night. I believe she has nightmares, but you already know that, don't you?" Tears were now streaming down his face as he spoke to his wife, who wasn't even with him. "She fell asleep around six so she'll probably wake up early tomorrow, but I don't mind at all. I'm just glad that she seems to feel better, since you left us..." Before he could continue he heard the door that led to the garden open. As he looked up he could see the small blonde girl rub the sleep out of her eyes with one of her hands.
"Daddy?" she said in a small voice as she made her was toward him, with her teddy bear in her arms. "I can't sleep. I miss mommy" She had tears in her eyes and Tobias reached his arms towards her. She immediately run to him and threw her arms around his neck. He gave his daughter a tight hug.
"I miss her to, Hope" he said. "But you know she's with us" He pointed above them and Hope's eyes looked at the stars. He saw the stars glister in a way that they used to do in the eyes of her mother.
"Hi mommy..." And with that she started telling her mother about all of the fun things that had happened recently. Tobias knew that Tris smiled down at them, and he remembered all of the good memories they had together.
A/N: There's the chapter. I teared up a little while writing this, but I hoped you liked it.
Infinity is actually my favorite word and that part where Tris explained what it ment is actually from Wikipedia:)
Also, do you know where Tobias' favorite quote is from?;)
This chapter has some inspiration from The Fault in our Stars
