A/N: I would like to apologize for the huge delay in posting this chapter but this past quarter of college has been really stressful and time consuming. Luckily I'm on a spring break for a little while so I'll try to update more frequently. I hope you enjoy the latest installment of TGJ-2!
I awoke to the sound of birds chirping and the lull of the TV in the background. Light was pouring through the gaps in the drapes and illuminated the room. As I was gaining my bearings and processing what was going on, I looked down at the unconscious figure beside me. Ah yes; now I remember where we are and what we are doing here.
"Azula…Azula" I whispered to her. "It's time to get up Azula"
"Give the Princess 5 more minutes of sleep time." Oh so that's how it's going to be.
"The Princess will get zero more minutes of sleep time. Azula it's almost 10:00, we need to get a move on…unless you want Elle to find us and take me away." That seemed to do the trick as she shot up and threw the covers aside.
"That peasant bitch isn't taking you anywhere!" She hissed as she got out of bed.
"Don't worry she's not going to get us. But we do need to get a move on and get ready if we want to succeed in our mission. I'm going to go get us some breakfast while you get ready, what would you like?"
"I will have komodo sausage and smoked sea slug but neither too hot nor too spicy. It has to be a perfect balance of temperature and spiciness otherwise I cannot and will not eat it. Also, I will have some sort of earthly tea. Uncle raves about it all the time so it must be at least somewhat appetizing." Her demeanor was back to that of her old princess self. Ah well that's part of the reason why you like her so much Austin.
"Uhhh how about I get some eggs, sausage and toast instead? I can, however, get you some tea."
"Yes I suppose that works. Austin how does this weird contraption work? I wish to take a bath but it is noting like the ones back home in the palace."
"Here let me help you," I say as I make my way into the bathroom. "What you want to do is turn on this knob to let out the hot water." I turned the handle to illustrate my point as water rushed out. "When you feel that the temperature is hot enough and that there's enough water you just turn it the other way until no more water comes out."
"I have it now, you may lea- err..thank you Austin."
I gave her a soft smile as my appreciation. So she's not perfect, but she's making progress. "You are very welcome Azula. I'll be back as soon as I can, but no matter what, under no circumstances, are you to leave this room until I come back. This is for your safety, do you understand?"
"Yes I understand and do not worry I will not venture outside of this room. Austin…come back as quick as possible and try not to get yourself killed." That was just her way of telling me she cares about me. With that I nodded and took off in search of food.
I returned 30 minutes later with the food and tea and noticed that something seemed off about the room from the outside but I couldn't quite place my finger on it. Carefully opening the door, I made my way inside the room as quiet as possible to not alert any potential intruders to my existence. I sat the food down on a nearby coffee table and noticed that the bedding was more disheveled than when I had left.
I promptly pulled out my knife given to me by the Corps and walked into the adjacent room where I noticed an unconscious body laying on the floor.
"Azula what the hell-" but I was cut off before I could finish by a vase being swung at my head. I quickly dodged the attack and grabbed the assailant's arm and put it behind their back as I pressed my knife to their throat.
"YOU'LL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE" She screamed as she tried to wriggle free of my grasp.
"Azula calm down it's me Austin!" I replied as I let go of her arm and put my knife away. As soon as she realized it was me, she went in and hugged me as tight as possible.
"Oh thank the spirits that it's you! I was wondering if they went after you as well." She sounded relieved as she continued to cling on to me.
"If who went after me? What's going on Azula?! You aren't making any sense!" She just let go of me and motioned to the knocked out guy on the floor.
"I picked this up from him; it was in his pocket. It looks to be some form of identification, maybe you'll be able to understand what it means." She handed me his badge and I instantly recognized that he was a CIA agent.
"Azula this says that he works for the CIA, the same people that Elle works for. What happened? How did he get in here?" I was starting to panic even though it was my job to stay calm for the both of us. How did they find us?! I made sure to cover up our tracks and near impossible to find.
"Well after I got done with my bath, I walked into the bedroom and heard someone banging on the door. I thought that perhaps it was you and you forgot your key to unlock the door so I opened it. As soon as I did, this man barged in and attacked me. He wasn't much of a challenge for someone as high caliber as me, and thanks to the training that Ty Lee gave me, I rendered him useless in a matter of seconds."
"Well that's good that you're safe, that's all that matters. But our position has been compromised and it's only a matter of time before more agents arrive. We'll need to get a move on if we're gonna get away from these guys." Why the hell do they want to come after me so bad? "So pack up your stuff and meet me in the car in a few minutes."
Azula gave me a nod and started packing up her stuff and getting ready. "What should we do with the unconscious man?" She asked me.
Hmm that's a good question, what should we do? "Why don't we tie him up and take him with us. He should be able to provide us with information as to why the government is so ruthlessly pursuing us. And then when we got our information we'll drop him off at a hospital." That way we'll be better prepared for the inevitable battle later on.
Azula sat him up in a chair and began tying his wrists and ankles together. "Azula wait! Don't put that man in front of a window-" but I was cut off as two bullets broke through the large window and struck the man in the chest. He was dead before I could even react.
"What the hell was that, Austin?!" I tackled her and put us in coverage behind a couch as more bullets shattered the window and found their way into the room.
Goddamn, they really want us dead. "Azula they have soldiers that are far away trying to kill us. We're going to have to make a break for the door and rush to the car. I need you to trust me on this one; we're going to leave on my account, okay?" She just merely nodded astonishingly.
"One…two…three!" I took Azula's hand as we raced for the door. Bullets were ricocheting all around us as we barely made it to the door without a scratch. We flew down the stairs and into the car. I launched the car into drive and we lurched into the street as secret agents appeared out of nowhere.
"Austin, what in spirits' name is going on?!" Truth be told I didn't really have a clue, but I needed to stay calm for both of us.
"I'll tell you later, but first I need to shake off these men following us." As soon as I said that, one of the cars tailing us began opening fire at us. Shit! This is going to be harder than expected. I made a sharp turn but both cars were right on us. Bullets were flying all around us, slamming into the back and sides, narrowly missing our heads. I made another sharp turn and managed to lose one of the cars, but one was still refusing to go away.
"There's still one there, what are we supposed to do?!" I was running out of time and options so I had to come up with something quick. Noticing the gun that I stole from the agent in the hotel room, I forged an idea.
"Azula, I'm going to need you to grab this wheel and put your foot on this metal piece down here. All you have to do is keep the car steady while I take out the bad guys, can you do that?"
"Of course I can. What do I look like to you, a peasant?" Her demeanor and tone conveyed confidence, but her eyes said something else. I rolled down the window and placed her hands on the steering wheel. Here we go; it's now or never.
"Ready…now!" I leaned out the window and my first shots went way wide as the car swerved from Azula taking charge of the wheel. I heard the bullets whistle by my head as I cheated death once again.
"Azula, I'd really appreciate it if you could hold the car still so I can get some decent shots off on these guys."
"I'm trying!" She hissed back as the car became steadier.
I fired two more shots but neither seemed to do the trick: the first one took off one of the side mirrors and the other went into the hood. Dammit Austin just concentrate and remember your training. I took a deep breath and counted to three. I squeezed the trigger and the bullet sailed into the driver's chest. For his part he just slumped over the wheel as the car rolled and burst into flames.
"I expected better from you but I suppose that will do. What about the other one?" I climbed back into the driver's seat and took back control of the car. Before I could formulate a response, the other car pulled right in front of us. I grabbed the steering wheel hard as I attempted to evade it but our car just toppled over.
I laid there in the upside down car for a few seconds as I attempted to garner my bearings. I looked in the broken mirror to see two sets of feet walking towards the car. Looks like they're coming to finish off the job. I checked my gun but noticed it was out of ammo. Guess I'll just have to do this the old-fashioned way.
"Azula, no matter what you can't come out of this car, okay? I really need you to hide; I can't let anything happen to you."
"Austin that is the last the thing I am going to do."
"Please Azula it is for your own good."
"But I can help you!"
"Promise me you won't leave your hiding spot until it's safe."
"Okay fine. I promise."
I crawled out of the window and faced the two men coming my way, both of which were carrying quite the sharp knives.
"Surrender now and we'll take you both in with relatively little pain." One of the men commanded.
"I'm sorry I can't do that." It's not like I believe you guys anyways.
"I was hoping you would say that." The other man grinned as the two starting running at me. The first one lunged at my neck but I evaded it and kicked him backwards. The other then threw a series of slashes and punches and I managed to block them all except for one which left a nasty cut on my arm.
"You know for secret agents, I expected you guys to be better at fighting." I taunted, though I underestimated how much pain I was really in. The first one lunged at me again and I dodged his rage-fueled attack after attack. He feigned a punch and lunged with his knife hand. Luckily I was able to disarm the knife and knock him unconscious with a swift blow to the back of his head.
"Say goodnight Austin." The other man had managed to sneak behind me and pressed his knife against my neck. I closed my eyes and prepared myself for the pain that was about to happen but it never came.
"Nighty night." Azula hissed as the man slumped down, paralyzed and unconscious.
I turned around is disbelief as the person I love came to my rescue.
"Azula I can't believe it! Thank you so much!"
"Yeah yeah you're welcome. Told you I could help you fight those guys."
"You're right Azula. Sorry I ever doubted you." I walked up to her and put my hand on her face, brushing aside her disheveled hair. I leaned in and pressed my lips against hers, feeling the warmth of her breath.
"Good." She smiled. "So to your friend's place that will help us retrieve that one device?"
"Yes that is correct. He should be able to help us out quite nicely to retrieve the Vortex Inducer."
"Who is this man? What makes you so sure that he will be willing to help you?"
"His name is Viktor Alexandrov. And let's just say that he and my dad were close friends."
A/N: All right. So I know that it's not that long but I originally was going to combine this chapter with the next so I thought I would just split them up. Once again I apologize for the long delay and I'll be sure to get the next chapter up before the end of the week. As always, be sure to R&R. Thanks!
