I hope you all had a great Christmas. I'm sorry that this chapter was later than I wanted it to be but I got rather stuck with this one and my laptop is playing up again. I should probably get a new one as the one I have is a little outdated and rather crappy.

Disclaimer: I do not own twilight but of course, you already know that.

One month later-Christmas eve

Esme's POV

With Christmas around the corner, Jasper's confusion had grown when we had put up the Christmas tree a few weeks back. Rosalie had tried to remind of the time they had spent together at this time of year but because he was so young, Jasper hardly remembers anything before his life in the woods. With this revelation, all of my children tried to explain Christmas to him. Emmett told him about getting presents from friends and family while Edward reminded his brother that it was more about the giving than the receiving. Alice explained the story of Jesus Christ; which Jasper struggled to understand, which had been followed by Rosalie talking to her brother about Santa Claus.

Carlisle and I thought that it would be a good idea to stick with the story of Santa as mentally, Jasper was still very young. His childhood had been taken away from him and it was our job to give it back to him. Taking in so much information in one day was difficult for Jasper but the idea of a man in a sleigh being led by reindeer excited him so he had enthusiastically helped us with putting decorations on the Christmas tree.

Over the past month, Carlisle and I have been thinking hard about what kind of things we should get Jasper for Christmas. We knew the rest of our kids well enough so we knew what things they would like but with Jasper, it was slightly more difficult. We had to get him something that he wouldn't grow out of too fast as he was learning new things by the week (by next year he might even figure the truth about Santa which is why I wanted to make this year special for him) but we also wanted to buy things that were educational for him.

Since it's Christmas eve, it's obvious that we have finished out Christmas shopping but it had been a challenge wrapping up the presents that we planned to put under the tree without Jasper trying to get into my and Carlisle's bedroom. We relied on the children to try and keep Jasper away from our bedroom but they had a difficult time doing so. We did manage it in the end and most of the presents now lay underneath the Christmas tree, which I explained to Jasper that those were from me and Carlisle. We often find him crouching by the Christmas tree and fiddling with the presents but we keep having to remind him that he can't open them until Christmas day.

Today, while Carlisle was preparing tomorrows Christmas dinner and Emmett had driven the rest of his siblings to the mall to buy some last minute presents, I was baking cookies and helping Jasper decorate them with icing, who was getting a little impatient in the process. A week ago, we had been woken up by Jasper with a grin on his face and an apple in his hand. He had explained that he was hungry and nobody was awake and the kitchen door was locked meaning that the only food available to him was the fruit in the fruit bowl. He had chosen to try it and thankfully, he had managed to swallow the fruit with little pain in his throat. In short, he is now able to swallow solids and just in time for Christmas too.

That's why he was so eager in helping me make the cookies because last time he helped me make something, he wasn't able to eat which he wasn't happy about but now he can, he is looking forward to eating the cookies once they are ready.

"Which do you want to decorate now? The tree shaped cookies or the angels?" I asked him.

We had already finished with the holly and the snowmen shaped ones. Jasper looked between the two different shapes of the baked cookies, debating which one he preferred.

"The chwistmas twee" Jasper answered innocently.

He grabbed the green and red colored icing and begun to decorate around the edge of the shape, trying very carefully to keep it neat. I watched him for a minute or two before I made a start on the angels; using the white and gold icing.

Even though Jasper had started before I did, I found myself finishing before him. His eyes were very focused as he squeezed the tube of icing around the last cookie very slowly. His hands were shaking a little as he squeezed the last bit out.

"Good job, Jasper. Now let's clean up before the others get home" I told him.

Jasper placed the icing down and replaced the cap and then he looked up at me with pleading eyes.

"I have one now?" he asked innocently.

I smiled at him and ruffled his hair.

"Alright, but just one" I answered; unable to say no to him.

He grinned and grabbed one of the earlier baked ones and began munching on it as Carlisle appeared by my side.

"The turkey is in the oven and the rest is all ready for tomorrow's dinner" Carlisle announced.

He turned and watched Jasper as he put away the cookie cutters, icing and everything else we had been using to make the cookies.

"I guess he just wants to make sure he's on Santa's good list" Carlisle chuckled.

"It's alright sweetie. I'll do the rest. Go and play" I told him kindly.

Jasper looked at me and then to Carlisle, who nodded at him, giving Jasper the permission he was looking for before he smiled and then ran off into his play room.

"Can you imagine what his face will be like tomorrow morning when he wakes up and finds a stack of presents for him from Santa" I smirked.

"I just hope we'll be awake to see his face. He might wake up in the middle of the morning" Carlisle replied.

It was actually very likely that he would wake up before everybody else; in fact, he always does. But perhaps if we told him to stay in bed until at least 6AM and then wake us up before he goes downstairs, then it'll be just the way we planned.

Carlisle's POV

Jasper had been very excited once it began to get dark and Rosalie had helped him write a letter to Santa as well as setting some food out for him and his reindeer. He had even headed off to bed early without even asking me to read a story to him. Despite that, I had gone to check on him and to give him a bottle of warm milk to help him sleep. I knew that Christmas eve was a night that children struggle to sleep.

I knocked on his bedroom door before opening it to let him know that I was coming in. Jasper was already wrapped inside of his comforter trying to get some sleep. His eyes fluttered open as he watched me walk in and sit down at the end of his bed.

I passed him his bottle of milk and he reached out for it to take a sip.

"I want to remind you to not wake up too early tomorrow, okay? Don't go downstairs without me and your mom" I told him.

He nodded and put his bottle aside before leaning his head back against his pillow. He hadn't taken a single nap today after how busy we had been so hopefully, that meant he would sleep through the whole night. I put my hand through his long curly hair.

"Good night, buddy" I whispered to him.

"Night daddy" he mumbled back.

I wasn't surprised when I was being shaken awake very early in the morning. What I hadn't expected was for it to be one of my other children.

"Dad…dad, wake up"

As I opened my eyes, I saw Emmett standing in front of me. I gave him a questioned look as I sat up.

"I can hear Jasper crying" he explained.

I listened out for Jasper, only to find out that Emmett was right. It was very quiet which is why it didn't wake me up but it was there and it worried me. Why was he crying? And why hadn't he woken me up if he was upset?

I got out of bed, careful to not wake Esme and I followed my eldest son out of the room.

"I went on his room to see why he was crying but he wouldn't talk to me, and he uh…he had a little accident" Emmett mentioned.

I understood what he meant by 'accident' and to be honest, I'm surprised that this hadn't happened any sooner.

"Alright. Go get some sleep. I'll sort this out" I told Emmett.

For the second time tonight (well I guess it was early morning now) I entered Jasper's room to find him huddled in the far corner of the room, tears rolling of his check as he watched me warily. I crouched down next to him, careful not to scare him.

"What's wrong, sweetheart" I asked him quietly.

He eyed me cautiously, probably trying to put his worries into words.

"They were in my sleep" he sniffed and rubbed his hand over his wet eyes.

A nightmare. He had a dream of those monsters he had come across in his life in the woods. That must have been the cause of his bed wetting too. I sighed, wishing I could take away the demons of the past even though I am still unaware of what exactly happened to him. I moved closer to him so that he could lean against him, hoping that it would make him feel more safe.

"It's alright, Jasper. You're safe here" I murmured to him as I stroked his hair.

"I know" he whispered back.

I was surprised actually. I hadn't expected him to say anything but despite the current moment, deep down, I was rather happy that he knew that.

"Do you want to talk about it?" I asked gently.

He rapidly shook his head no, looking very terrified so I rushed to calm him.

"Shhh, hey it's okay, it's okay. You don't have to tell me about it if you don't want to" I assured.

I so desperately wanted to know what happened to him but I knew I needed to wait until he was ready to talk about it. He might even feel more comfortable opening up to Peter. I was already aware that Jasper told Peter things that he hadn't told me and in a way it was a good thing. He was forming a friendship with somebody outside the family.

"Let's get some fresh clothes for you to wear" I suggested.

Jasper understood the meaning of what I had said as he looked down at his pajama bottoms.

"Now I be a bad boy and Santa won't come" he cried.

I pulled him closer to me in attempt to comfort him. Of course he would think that. He was doing all he could to be good and the slightest thing he does wrong and he suddenly believes that he's gonna be punished for it.

"You didn't do anything wrong, Jasper. It was an accident. Santa will still come" I reassured him.

In fact; the full stocking was already in the living room waiting for him. I stood up and pulled a spare pair of pants and some underwear out of the drawer and passed it to him.

"Get changed while I change the sheets" I told him.

"Okay" he mumbled as he rubbed at his eyes again.

I had eventually got him back into a clean bed and asleep just over an hour later. But of course, I only got another three hours sleep before Jasper jumped up onto our bed to wake the both of us up.

"Mommy, daddy, you wake up or I can't see if Santa come" Jasper yelled as he nudged me.

He continued this until we were out of bed and ready to follow him down the stairs. He ran down as quickly as he could and into the lounge when his eyes landed on the stocking and his whole face lit up. But then he frowned as he looked around the rest of the room.

"Come on, Jazz. Aren't you gonna open your presents from Santa?" Rosalie asked as she walked passed us.

"Rose, why you not have one from Santa?" Jasper questioned curiously.

Rosalie sighed and looked at me before looking back at Jasper.

"Santa only brings presents to children and the rest of us are too old for them so we just get presents from the rest of the family. You're an exception because you have only had four Christmases and you don't remember them because you were only little so he's making up for them" Rosalie lied.

"Oh" Jasper mumbled.

Seeing that Jasper looked a little upset, Rosalie made a suggestion.

"What if we open the presents under the tree first? Then everyone will have a present to open" Rosalie said.

Jasper nodded in agreement. "Okay"

As it turns out, Jasper was actually very fast at unwrapping and all of the wrapping paper was scattered everywhere as he had clawed at it, eager to find out what lay underneath the thin sheet of paper. So in the end, he had actually unwrapped both, the presents underneath the Christmas tree and the ones in his stocking before the others had finished there's.

Esme and I had brought him coloring books, coloring pens and pencils, educational books and games and his favorite, a bike, which I will teach him how to use at some point. Emmett had brought him an Xbox controller, intending to teach Jasper how to play video games. Emmett claimed that he would buy Jasper an Xbox of his own when he learned how to use it probably. We were wealthy people but we wouldn't buy something expensive if we knew it would get broken so Emmett had made a wise decision…something I never thought I would say about Emmett.

Edward had gotten Jasper a musical keyboard, knowing that Jasper was getting rather keen on Edward's piano. Alice, with no surprise, had bought Jasper a lot of new clothes, including jackets with pockets that Jasper loves most. And last but not least, Rosalie had brought him a collection of mineral stones that she claims Jasper loved as a child. I didn't doubt her, he looked at them with so much fascination in his eyes and he gave his sister a big hug afterwards.

After our children had finished eating their breakfast, they all paid attention to their new gadgets although Jasper was more focused on putting all his newest books and pens neatly in his play room. Alice helped him pick out what clothes he should wear today, choosing between the clothes she brought him.

While I was cooking the roast dinner, Jasper appeared by my side unexpectedly, holding a rock in his hand for comfort.

"When are you help me ride my bi…bike?" Jasper asked, his bright blue puppy eyes on show.

"Well, it's very cold outside today so let's wait until it warms up a little bit, okay?" I suggested.

Jasper nodded and turned his head to the oven.

"That smell nice" he mentioned.

"Good. It'll be ready soon. Do you want to help your mom set the table?" I questioned him.

He grinned, showing off his dimple on his right cheek.

"I like helping mom" he stated before he on walked out of the kitchen and up to Esme who was stood by the dining table.

I watched as he took the cutlery from Esme so that he could place them by the plates that my wife had already set. She saw me watching and smiled back at me lovingly. I knew she was thinking exactly what I was thinking. How quickly Jasper was growing up. Sure, Jasper still had some childish quirks but he was learning faster than we could have ever expected.

I apologise if this chapter was a little terrible. A chapter usually takes me about 3 hours to work on but today I have been multitasking (I recently brought a season 1-9 criminal minds boxset)and I found I absolutely hard to concentrate without watching my favourite tv show so I ended up doing two things at once and it had taken up the whole day. Oh well, it's done now.
