Carlisle's POV

I watched from a distance as Esme taught Jasper how to ride his bike. I was amazed with how quickly he was learning but he still relied on my wife to jog by his side as he cycled with a steady speed in a circle. It was something that I had intended to teach him but he wasn't talking to me right now.

Throughout my whole shift at the hospital, I couldn't stop thinking about whether I had done the right thing or not. What could I do to make this better? After my shift at the hospital, I had visited Peter to discuss things about Jasper. He gave me a few tips on how I can approach the problem with him and the method that I chose to work on was to give him the space that he needed but still spend some time attempting to communicate with him so that he was aware that I was not giving up on him.

"Dad"

My thoughts were interrupted by my eldest son, Emmett as he sat down on the couch next to me.

"What is it, son?" I questioned.

"Jasper opened up to me a little last night. He didn't say much but he confirmed a few things" Emmett stated.

"What did he say?" I asked, giving him my full attention.

"He said that 'they' were mad at him and 'they' made him hurt" he answered.

I assumed that he was talking about the hunters, the ones who held the shotguns which had scared Jasper into horrible memories and now wouldn't talk to me because of it. I suspected as much that they had hurt him but it still pained me to know that Jasper had confirmed it, and it had hurt even more that he had told this to Emmett instead of me.

"Did he say anything else?" I asked him.

Emmett shook his head. "No, but he really likes it in my room. He seems more comfortable" he admitted. "Do you think it would be cool if he slept in there for a few more nights. Make him feel a little more secure?"

I was surprised by Emmett's request and his understanding of the situation. He was right though. Jasper had chose to hide under Emmett's bed because that was where he felt the most secure and if I wanted to gain his trust again, I would need to allow him to be where he feels safest. Usually, he felt safest when he was near me but that has clearly changed. I just hope that this would be over soon.

"Just for a few nights" I agreed.

When Jasper had come back indoors after he was finished with his bike, he had ran straight passed me and upstairs into Emmett's room. That was when I decided to try to get him to talk to me.

After grabbing a small pot of blueberries, I headed to Emmett's room 5 minutes after Jasper got there, to give him time to relax but I knew that the moment I entered the room, he was trying to prevent himself from growling at me.

He was still hiding underneath Emmett's bed but instead of bothering him by looking underneath it, I simply sat against the wall looking at the end of the bed. Although he knew I was there, he didn't take any notice of me. He just kept his breathing as quiet as possible, with the occasional shuffling noise which I assume was him pushing himself as far away from me as possible. I wouldn't be surprised if his back was pressed so firmly against the opposite wall that his spine would be hurting.

"Hey, Jasper" I muttered even though I expected no reply.

I opened up the small pot of blueberries and took one out, rolling it under Emmett's bed. Jasper loved fruit and he hadn't eaten much since the incident with Peter so I wanted to encourage him to digest something. I was aware that Emmett got him to eat his breakfast but that was all he had. He didn't even show interest in his favorite chocolate milk that Esme had made for him.

I heard him shuffle under the bed which was a good sign. It meant that he wasn't ignoring his hunger and chose to snack on the berry. I rolled another blueberry under the bed which Jasper ate without any hesitation this time.

This gave me the idea of using the berries to get him to come out from under the bed. I placed the third berry just outside of the bed which caused him to go silent. He was thinking about taking it but he probably already figured out my intentions.

Despite that thought, Jasper's hand appeared out of nowhere and snatched the berry and quickly ate it. The fourth, fifth and sixth berry, Jasper was able to reach by just poking his arm out but with the next one I placed far outside the bed so that he would need to come out to get it. Again, there was a pause, and then a whimper.

"Come out of there, Jasper. Talk to me" I told him.

I heard further movement but I was disappointed when I figured that it was Jasper moving back against the wall again. I sighed, but it was foolish of me to think that it would work. Although Jasper was mentally challenged in some areas, his life in the wild taught him to be smart and cautious.

I left the pot of blueberries on the floor as I got up and left the room. I knew that if I was out of the room, he would take the pot under the bed to snack on but that wasn't the only reason I left. If he was gonna spend a few nights in Emmett's room, I didn't want him sleeping on the uncomfortable carpet. I went into Jasper's room and grabbed the mattress from his bed so that I could place it in Emmett's room. Once I was back in there, I wasn't surprised to find that the pot of blueberries were missing.

A small growl came from under the bed which was just Jasper typically being protective of his food. I placed the mattress next to Emmett's bed; there was just enough space to squeeze between the wall and the side of the bed. I then left again to retrieve several blankets to make it look comfortable enough for Jasper to sleep on rather than under the bed tonight.

After that was done, I filled one of Jasper's bottles with warm milk and placed it on the bedroom floor, knowing that Jasper would retrieve it as soon as I left the room.

"Jazz, you would feel much better if you talk to me. I'm sorry about what happened, I really am but we're trying to help you. I'll leave you alone for now but you know where I am if you decide to talk" I told him calmly.

There was no response so I left him on his own to give him the space he needed. Giving him too much unwanted attention would only make things worse. As soon as I walked down the stairs, I was approached by Edward.

"Dad, can you play chess with me? It's been a while since our last game" Edward questioned.

I couldn't blame him for suddenly wanting to spend time with me. For the first time since Jasper joined our family, Jasper didn't want anything to do with me so Edward took that as a chance to take advantage of that. At least if I played chess with Edward, it would take my mind off Jasper for a little while.

"Sure" I answered.

Emmett's POV

It was one in the morning and I was once again, kept awake by the sound of Jasper fidgeting. One minute he was under my bed, and the next he was out, and then he's back under. I turn on the small lamp by the side of my bed to see what the hell the kid was doing.

Noticing the sudden light, Jasper had stopped dead in his tracks and stared me down. He had a blanket in his hand and I realized that the mattress that dad had put down was no longer covered in a pile of blankets.I figured that he is just stuffing them under my bed to make his sleep more comfortable so despite dad's best efforts, Jasper was not going to sleep on the mattress.

"Carry on" I mumbled as I flipped the lamp switch again.

If he was moving the last blanket, the noise shouldn't last much longer...Boy, was I wrong.

Two hours later, I was woken up again but this time he was crying. He was louder than he usually is when he cries but not loud enough to wake up anyone outside of this room. I got out of my bed and looked under it.

Jasper was curled up on a pile of blankets, the ones near his lower half were dampened, where he had another one of his 'accidents'.

"Jasper? Are you awake?" I asked him gently.

I knew that the kid tended to cry in his sleep; it was something we began to notice when he napped during the day but I'm sure he also did it when none of us were around. Jasper curled in on himself more as I spoke and sniffled; forcing himself to stop crying. He was awake.

"Come out of there, dude. I'll help you get cleaned up" I offered.

It would totally suck but it looked like I was gonna have another sleepless night anyway and it wouldn't be a good idea to wake up dad this time for obvious reasons. Since Jasper didn't move, I reached my hand under, and grabbed the driest of the blankets and pulled them out. Because Jasper's body was resting on them, I had pulled out his body along with the blankets which caused Jasper to make a noise which sounded like a mix between a growl and a puppy's whine.

Once he was fully out from under the bed, he got up and ran to the furthest corner, using the palm of his hands to wipe his eyes.

"Dude, do you wanna take your pants off so I can wash them for you?" I asked as I gathered the blankets.

Jasper looked my way and then down at the pants he was wearing. The kid looked a little afraid but he tried to hide it. He gave me a quick nod before suddenly vanishing out of my room. I was confused for a moment but then I realized that he wasn't gonna strip in front of me because that would have just been weird.

He returned, wearing a different pair and gave me his soiled clothing so that I could take it downstairs to put into the washing machine. Jasper remained in my room as I did everything, keeping quiet as to not wake up anybody else. When I returned to my room, I saw Jasper attempting to move my bed.

"What are you doing, dude?"

His head shot up and looked at me as if I were stupid.

"Under bed wet" he mumbled.

Of course. I moved to Jasper's side so I could help push the bed, revealing a wet patch where Jasper had been laying in previously. With a sigh, I left my room once more to retrieve the right equipment to clean it up.

By the time I was finished, I was so wiped out that I collapsed into my bed and closed my eyes, hoping to just fall asleep without anymore interruptions. Jasper was now resting on the mattress that dad had put in for him as the carpet underneath my bed was still wet although it was now clean. At least dad would be happy to hear that he slept comfortably...well, for the rest of the night anyway.

"Emmett"

I mentally groaned as I heard his small voice. I just wanted to sleep.

"What?" I murmured.

There was a slight pause.

"I'm sorry" he spoke, softly.

Although my body tried to fight it, I forced my eyes open and turned over so I could see Jasper. He was watching me nervously.

"It's not your fault, dude. You know, maybe the nightmares will stop if you let Peter and dad help you" I told him.

Jasper just stared at me as if I had just made a ridiculous suggestion. And then he moved his gaze to his fiddling fingers, shrugging pathetically, before lying back down and curling up into a fetal position. Well, if the dude was finally gonna get some sleep, I had no problem with it. I leaned over and turned off the lamp and then made the most of my final hours left of the night.

I think this chapter might of sucked a little because of the lack of action but there is still more to come, I promise.
