"Can you throw the ball to daddy?" Edward asked our daughter
He was standing on the opposite end of the yard as her, studying her features. Ever since she showed her incredible strength on the field, he has been testing her to see just how strong she really was. Abigail picked up the baseball and crease formed between her brows as she hurled the ball at her father. He easily caught it but looked surprised.
"Wow, you have a strong hand" he muttered "Okay now try to throw this rock at me"
Edward had laid different size rocks next to her, each a little heavier than the last. I wasn't sure how I felt with her picking up heavy objects but I knew that Edward wouldn't let anything bad happen to her. She lifted up the rock and threw it at him.
"Good girl" he praised "You're so strong"
She clapped and jumped up and down, obviously pleased with her throwing skills. She threw the next rock and the next with no problem. I was nervous at how strong she really was. She could easily hurt someone without realizing it. When she got to the larger rock- which was almost as big as her- she struggled.
"I think I found your limit" Edward smirked kissing her cheek
I was sitting inside by the window because according to him, it was too cold for me. The weather predicted the first snow fall this weekend, which of course was perfect timing since Thanksgiving was coming up. The Cullen's have graciously agreed to host and even invited my extended family to join. Esme figured it would be though since it's the first holiday without my grandmother. I placed my hand on my bump and a tear escaped my eye, knowing my grandmother wouldn't be here and would never meet this new baby.
"Are you okay?" Edward yelled through the window
I looked up startled at the shout of his voice. I wiped my tears but he didn't wait for me to respond before he picked Abby up and walked into the house.
"Go take your coat off" he told her
"Hi" I smiled up at him
"You never answered me, is something wrong with the baby?"
"What? No, why?"
"Oh, I just saw you crying and holding your stomach" he sat down next to me and stroked my cheek "So I figured…"
"No, I'm okay. I didn't mean to worry you" I smiled at him "I was just thinking"
"About what?"
"Thanksgiving without my grandma" I sniffed feeling a lump in my throat again "It's weird her not being here. Every year when I lived with my mom, she would make a toast and say how thankful she was and…this year we lost her and our baby"
"I'm sorry love" he grabbed my hand "I didn't even think of what you must be going through this year"
"No, it's fine. I just had a moment" I smiled and leaned over to peck his lips
Abby ran back into the room and clamored onto my lap. Edward smiled back at her already knowing what she was about to say.
"Mommy I throw the ball at daddy really hard" she told me excitedly
"I know I saw you"
"I so strong" she clapped her hands
"So strong" I kissed her cheek "This means you need to be careful"
"Why?" she asked
Edward answered "Because you're so strong you could easily hurt someone. They're not as strong as you"
"I can make them strong" she smiled at him
"No, no more jumping on mommy or your brother okay?"
She nodded and jumped off my lap and ran into the playroom and turned the T.V on. I was scared that she might not be able to handle her strength at such a young age. What if she accidentally hurt someone?
"So her strength doesn't concern you?" I asked him
"Not really" he shrugged "She's half vampire so I knew that she'd be strong. She couldn't even pick up the big rock yet so don't worry"
Edward moved me so I was in his lap and his hand spread over my stomach.
"You know the baby's probably the size of an egg right now" he said nuzzling my neck
"Weird" I laughed placing my hand on top of his
"How have you been feeling? I know I haven't asked in a while"
"Fine I guess. I'm always feeling antsy and can't sit still but… I get tired more easily"
"That's to be expected"
"And instead of morning sickness I feel sick all day"
"That sounds annoying" he smirked
"And I miss being close to you" I squeezed him closer to me
"Me too love" he kissed the top of my head
1 week later
"Edward can you get Ryan up? I need to get him ready. We need to be at your parent's house in like five minutes" I yelled down the hall
Today was thanksgiving and I was the only one rushing around like a mad women. My mom, Phil, aunt, and uncle all agreed to come. They were flying down together and taking a cab to the main house. Charlie was going to meet us there. Edward and I also planned on going black Friday shopping. Well I convinced him to go. He made the argument that he didn't want me out all night and there is no reason to save money because he has more then enough. I told him that I wanted to go to see the craziness. He never answered me so I went to fetch my daughter who wasn't ready either. Abigail was still sitting at the kitchen table in her pajamas munching on some goldfish.
"Hey, no eating, you're going to spoil your meal. That's why we're going to grandma and grandpas. Remember I told you all the food that grandma was making?"
"But I is hungry" she whined reaching for the goldfish
"I know but we're leaving soon and then you can eat"
I picked her up and brought her into her room where I saw Edward cradling a sleeping Ryan against his chest.
"You were supposed to get him up" I whispered angrily "We need to leave"
He looked absolutely gorgeous in dark wash jeans and a blue dress shirt. His hair was perfectly tousled.
"Relax it takes us no more than two minutes to get there"
"Please just get him ready"
I dressed Abby in a light brown dress with tights and easily pulled her hair back in a barrette. Her curls fell loosely down her back and I ran my fingers through them.
"Don't you look beautiful" Edward said leaning against the door frame
"We go bye byes now?"
"Yep, go wait in the living room with your brother" he told her
After she ran out I leaned down to slip my heels onto my feet. Edward grabbed onto my elbow to balance me.
"Will you relax please? You're starting to stress me out"
"Sorry, I just want this to be perfect" I straightened my light purple dress that I was wearing and took a deep breath
"Everything will work out fine" he pecked me on the lips
I took one last look in the mirror, added some light makeup, and fixed my hair again. Why was I so nervous? They were my family. Edward grabbed my hand and led me to the other room.
"You look fine" he promised
When I saw Ryan I have to say that I was impressed. He looked well dressed for a baby. Edward dressed him in tan dress pants and a cute light blue shirt. He looked just like his father. I helped Abby put on her jacket and shoes and carried her out to the car. Edward grabbed the bags and threw them in the trunk.
"Don't get all pissy" he smirked
"Hey it's your family. You can be late all you want"
"Do you really think they'll start without us? No one wants to see me; they just want you and the kids"
"Aw you make me sound so special"
"Your are the definition of special" he kissed my cheek
We buckled them into their seats and Ryan already conked out again
"Ready to go see everyone? Edward asked Abby
She nodded and looked out the window watching the trees fly by. When we pulled up to the house I noticed that my dad's car was already in the driveway. I grabbed Ryan this time and we quickly entered the house. I sighed seeing that the football game was already on.
"Bought time you got here" Emmett laughed
"Blame him" I snorted pointing to my husband "Hey dad"
I leaned down to place a kiss on his cheek.
"How are you?" he asked
"Fine"
"And how's baby number three?"
"Great" I smiled "I'm going to go see if Esme needs help in the kitchen"
I placed Ryan on my dad's lap and walked into the kitchen. Esme and Carlisle were busy over the stove and I could smell the turkey cooking in the oven.
"Hi" I made my presence known
Esme turned around and smiled at me "Hello dear"
"Hi sweetheart" Carlisle added
"Do you guys need any help?"
"You can start setting the table if you want"
I nodded he handed me a stack of plates and forks. I walked into the large dining room and began placing the dinner settings down. I'm not sure how long I was helping but eventually Alice came in and took the glasses out of my hands.
"The rest of your family will be here in exactly two minutes"
"Oh…Okay"
I walked back into the living and saw that everyone else had arrived. Rosalie was coloring with Abby on the coffee table and Jasper was making faces at Ryan. Edward opened his arms for me and I plopped down on his lap. His arms wrapped around my waist pulling me closer to him.
"I'm starving" I announced
"Well I think Esme made plenty of food" he laughed kissing my cheek
He drummed his fingers lightly against my stomach and I knew he was listening to our baby's heartbeat. He traced circles around my belly button causing goose bumps through my dress.
"Is the baby kicking yet?" he asked
"Not yet. Don't worry you'll be the first to feel"
"Good" he smirked "You're mother is pulling up into the driveway"
I smiled and jumped up bouncing to the door. I opened it as they were getting out of the car and smiled when I saw them piling out.
"Bella!" my mom yelled running up to me
"Hi mom"
She embraced me in a hug and but quickly pulled back to delicately place both her hands on my stomach. I saw a tear escape her eyes.
"Mom, what's wrong?"
"Nothing" she sniffed "I just can't believe you're having another baby. I feel like it was just yesterday I was changing your diapers"
It was true, it did seem like yesterday. I remember when Edward and I first met and how mysterious he was. When he first told me he was a vampire and he thought I'd run away. When I saved him in Volterra or when he saved me from Victoria. And of course our wedding and first night as husband and wife. My life has changed so dramatically in the last six years since I met him.
"Are you okay?" she asked
"Yeah, I was just thinking" I shrugged
"Hey Bella" Phil came up to give me a hug
"Hey. Where's the rest of the crew?"
"Oh they took another cab because we couldn't all fit. Now come on its cold out here"
She led me back into the house and everyone warmly greeted them. Edward now had Ryan and walked up to us.
"Hi Edward…Oh my goodness he's gotten so big" she cooed
"Yep, he'll be turning the big 1 in a couple months" I smiled
Edward passed him over and my mom cradled him to her chest. Ryan looked confused at who was holding him but never cried. I wish my mom would visit more often. I know that Abby and Ryan didn't really remember her. As far as they know Edward's family is the only one they know. I let my mom have her time with him and Edward and I walked into the kitchen.
"You were reminiscing out there?" he laughed
Abby was sitting on the counter helping Esme put a salad together. I walked over to her and ran my fingers through her hair.
"Yes. I just can't believe where our lives landed" I kissed my daughter's cheek "Grandma Renee is here, go say hello please"
I lifted her off the counter and she ran into the living room although two seconds later I heard a bang and Edward disappeared from next to me.
"Oh dear" Esme said
Both of us ran into the other room just as Emmett was passing over his crying niece to Edward. She clung onto his neck, he face red and tear-stained.
"What happened?" I asked going over to her
"The poor dear caught her eye on the edge of table" my mom said
"Its okay" he hushed her "you're alright"
Edward pulled back and saw that above her eye was bleeding.
"Oh my poor baby" Edward cooed rubbing her back "Let's go get you cleaned up"
He walked with her upstairs and decided not to follow. I knew Edward would be able to calm her down probably better than I could. I sat down next to my mom who was playing with Ryan on her lap.
"You are such a good baby" she stroked his hair
"He rarely ever cries and he sleeps the whole night now" I agreed tickling his tummy "You're a momma's boy huh?"
"And Abigail seems to be a daddy's girl" she laughed
I nodded and the door opened to reveal my aunt, Uncle, and Emma. She ran over to me obviously happy to be here.
"Bella we had to take a plane to come and see you
"I know" I smiled "Was it fun?"
"It was my first time on a plane"
"Bella! It's so good to see you" she hugged then pulled back to look at my stomach "I almost didn't believe it when your mom told us you were pregnant again. She told us about the miscarriage. I can't believe it was twins"
"Yeah, it was really scary and I was depressed for a little while but honestly knowing that one of the babies's survived was a miracle considering I didn't even know it was twins" "Do you know if it's a boy or girl?"
"We don't want to find out. I told Edward that this is definitely the last baby, so we want it to be a surprise"
"Well what do you think?"
"Boy, but I'm always wrong. But Edward thinks it's a boy too and he's always right" I shrugged. I secretly wanted another boy but honestly a healthy baby will do.
My aunt then walked over to where my mom and Esme were fondling over Ryan. I walked upstairs to locate my husband and found him in our old bedroom sitting on the bed. The TV was on but the volume was low. As I walked in he held a finger to his lips.
"Is she sleeping?" I whispered
"No, she just very content"
She was lying against his chest and didn't look like she was moving anytime soon.
"Her cut?" I whispered back
"She's fine there was barely any blood. I think she was more scared than anything"
"Good, can you come downstairs now? The rest of my family just got here"
"Yep"
He carefully sat up and placed her face down on the bed. He covered her with a blanket and gave over wrapping me in a hug. He kissed me quickly before shutting the door behind us. I yawned rather loudly and Edward laughed.
"Are you going to make it tonight?"
"I'll be fine" I promised taking his hand and leading him downstairs. There was no way that
We walked through the kitchen and saw that my aunt was now holding Ryan and her, my mom, and Emma were helping out Esme.
"Hello everyone" Edward announced his presence
"Hi" my aunt answered back
"Is Abigail alright?" Esme asked
"She's fine and she just watching TV" Edward answered "Do you need help?"
"Sure could you put the turkey on the table? We'll be eating in about ten minutes"
He nodded and after a couple of minutes the table was set and the food was on the table. Esme went to gather everyone in the living room. Rosalie volunteered to get Abby up. Once we were all at the table Esme thought that it was appropriate to say grace. Edward grabbed my hand under the table.
"First off I just want to say that I'm so thankful that Bella's family got to join us this year. We really should get together more often. I also wan to say that even though we lost Bella's grandmother a few months ago she's in our thoughts. And one last thing, we are so thankful for Ryan and Abby and this new baby. Let's hope he/she is healthy and safe"
Edward kissed my cheek and I noticed that everyone else was smiling at us.
"Okay well let's eat" I said going for the turkey
The food was absolutely amazing. Esme was really getting better at cooking. I was surprised on how the Cullen's hid their food so well. Every time I looked over at Edward's plate there was less food. Abby was enjoying the stuffing and Ryan was happily having a bottle on my mom's lap. Esme and Carlisle were having a happy conversation with my family. I was so glad that this worked out well.
"Esme this is delicious" my dad praised
"Thank you Charlie" she smiled
After a while a leaned back and placed my hand on my stomach. Edward laughed and placed his hand on top of mine.
"Full?"
"Yes"
After dinner we were all sitting in the living room. Emma was teaching Abby how to play pat-a-cake and Edward and Emmett were attempting to get Ryan to stand up. At around 9 o'clock my dad decided to head home.
"Please be careful tonight" he said giving me a hug "There are a lot of crazy people out there
"We will" I promised
"You guys are really going out there?" my mom sounded surprised
"Yeah we just want to see what's out there and we should probably get going. You guys want to come?"
"No honey. You guys go have fun. I think we're all still a little jet lagged and ready for bed"
Esme and Carlisle were also kind enough to rent out the house for the night. My family was going to sleep in the living room and the kids in Edward's room. All the siblings were coming shopping with us. We got the kids into bed then bundled up. Edward made me put on a sweater, heavy coat, and a hat before he let me out of the house.
"It's going to be cold and if we're waiting outside for hours then…"
"Where are you guys even going?" my aunt asked walking down the stairs in her pajamas. She just put Emma down to bed.
"I was thinking Toys R Us and maybe a couple others" I suggested
"I want to go to the mall" Alice whined
"Edward just remember that she is pregnant" my mom added
"Don't worry, I might even make her sit in the car" he laughed
"Ha-ha very funny. I'll be fine mom" I grabbed onto my husband's arm to tow him out of the house
I jumped into the already warm car and I blinked in surprise when I saw the four siblings squeezed in the back.
"What the?"
"There's no point taking two cars" Alice shrugged perched on Jasper's lap
Edward rolled his eyes and we backed out of the driveway. Traffic didn't seem to be too bad until we got closer to the toy store. We had to drive into Seattle since that was the closest store. There must have been hundreds of people already lining up outside. Cops were directing traffic and Edward pulled up to the front.
"Oh my" I gasped
"Hop out and get a place in line, I'll go and park the car"
I leaned over to give him a kiss and jumped out of the car.
"Careful for the ice" Alice called and Jasper grabbed onto my arm before I walked over it we all walked to the back of the line and standing there were four men in their late 20's. They turned around when they saw me and smiled but Emmett and Jasper positioned themselves next to me. They scoffed and continued to look at me. I turned away from them and noticed the Jasper now stood in front of me. I hope they weren't thinking crude thought because when Edward got here there may be a fight.
"Ignore them" Rosalie said giving them a death glare.
"It's not that cold out" I observed
"It will be in about five minutes" Alice laughed
After a minute I started to wonder where Edward was but Alice told me it was taking a while to find a parking spot. I sighed and one of the guys pulled out a cigarette and lit it. I took one whiff of the nicotine and moved away from him.
"Can you put the cigarette out she's pregnant?" Emmett told him gesturing towards me
The guy looked at him then at me, scoffed, and continued to smoke his cigarette. This time I gagged and covered my nose.
"I said put it out" Emmett said getting in the guy's face
Edward ran up to us, obviously hearing the argument and grabbed my arm, pulling me behind him and towards his sisters. I grabbed onto his arm terrified that a fight would break out.
"Whoa, what's going on?" he asked
"This guy thinks he can tell me what to do" he looked at Emmett "I can smoke where I want. It's a free country" he swung his arms out "Not my fault she's pregnant. She shouldn't be out here anyways"
"But my wife is pregnant so could you smoke it somewhere else?" he said calmly. The guy must have been drunk and not in he right mind.
"Oh she's your wife" he smiled "I remember when my girlfriend had my son. As soon as that kid started talking back to me I was out. My girl turned into a bitch anyways. Good luck to you" he then turned back to his friends "Let's get out of here. We don't need anything here anyways"
They got out of line and ran into the street. I started breathing really heavily on the verge of a panic attack. Edward waited till they were out of sight before turning towards me.
"Are you alright?" he kissed all over my face
I nodded not trusting my voice and wrapped my arms around his waist tightly. He kissed the top of my head and rubbed my arms.
"It's okay. They were just drunk and idiots. I didn't think people were capable of taunting someone who's pregnant"
"I'm okay just forget about it" I looked at Emmett "Thank you"
"No problem little sis" he smirked hugging me
"Do you want to go home?" Edward asked
"No but I think I only want to do this store"
"Okay love"
I feel bad for his girlfriend and their son" I whispered to him
"Don't, their probably better off without him but how could someone talk about their child like that and especially their child's mother"
"I love you"
"And I love you…so, so much"
After a while I started shaking, the cold really getting to me. Edward pulled me close to him trying to cause some friction to warm me up. He pulled my hood up over my head and touched my cheek. His skin almost felt warm.
"Your cheeks are all red" he observed
"I'll be fine" I assured him "Just keep hugging me you feel weirdly warm right now"
"Then you must be cold" he laughed rubbing my back
They finally opened the doors and Edward wrapped an arm around my waist as we waited for the crazy people to run in, some getting trampled. I was honestly scared and held closet to my husband. Of course Emmett and Alice ran ahead just for the fun of it.
"Their nuts" I laughed
"Indeed they are" he agreed
Rosalie shook her head in embarrassment and followed him, jasper towing behind her.
Once we got in the store it was madness and Edward had to keep a tight hold to prevent me from getting pushed. In all honesty it wasn't that much fun. It was just a bunch of rude people running through the store and attacking toy shelves like animals. I had enough after five minutes.
"I really don't understand why you wanted to do this so bad" he said
"I just wanted to see what it was like but honestly nothing here really excites me"
"Then why don't we go home. Like everyone keeps reminding us, you are pregnant and you might get hurt. People seem to be very aggressive tonight. We can go shopping online tomorrow and it's a lot safer for you"
"Sorry I made you come out" I felt bad that we waited this long to get in the store to stay all but ten minutes
"It fine…it was an interesting experience, another first for us"
"Yes standing outside in the cold for over an hour"
"Funny now let's go round up the others"
They all decided they weren't done with the fun yet so Edward dropped them off at the mall. He must have known that I couldn't stay awake any longer. Once we got back to our cottage I was half asleep so he had to carry me in. I didn't even bother changing and quickly cuddled in all the blankets.
"Thank you for not leaving me even when I talk back to you"
"Oh my Bella" was the last thing I heard before I conked out
