"Bella I'm jumping in the shower are you good?"
"Yeah go ahead" I yawned rolling over "What time is it?"
"About 5 in the morning. I have to pick up your mom and Phil at the airport"
"Oh yea I forgot"
"You forgot your mom was coming? It was just last night" he laughed
"I'm so low on sleep I can't even remember what happened 20 minutes ago. I thought they were getting a cab"
"I'm not going to make them pay for a cab. It's no problem for me to get them"
He leaned down to place a gentle kiss on my lips and he walked into the bathroom, turning the shower on. As soon as I heard him jump in Joshua decided to awake from his slumber. I sighed and leaned over to pick him up and laid him down in the bed next to me. I placed my arm around him so he wouldn't roll off.
"Why is it that you need to be held all the time?" I kissed his forehead "Daddy spoiled you already huh? Well you can sleep with mommy in her bed"
He stared at me with his big brown eyes like I was crazy. I laughed at him and gently stroked his cheek. He was perfect and the perfect baby to cuddle with. Eventually we both fell asleep.
"Bella" I felt a soft shaking
"What?"
"You know better than to sleep with him" Edward whispered
My eyes finally adjusted to see my husband standing above me in a towel. That sight alone made me want to chain him to the bed for the rest of the day but then I realized that I must've fallen asleep with Joshua next to me.
"I know I'm sorry"
"Its fine I just don't want him to roll off" he laughed lightly
"Mmm" my eyes closed again
I felt him lift the baby from the bed and move him to his bassinet. My eyes peeked open so I could watch him get dressed.
"How do you feel?"
"Tired and sore but a lot better"
"Glad to hear it. I'll be back in a couple hours. Ryan's monitor is on the nightstand. I doubt they'll wake up before I get back though"
"Okay" I really had no idea what he was saying
"You going to be okay love?"
"Ya I'll be fine just go"
Once he left my eyes shut automatically. No matter how long I slept for I was always tired. Keeping up with two toddlers after giving birth was really not sitting right with me. Not to mention that I'm still extremely sore and it's hard for me to move. Ryan gave out a pretty good cough and I sighed scooting myself out of bed and into his room, grabbing the Joshua's monitor. He was still fast asleep but when I looked at him I noticed his breathing was a little rough. Because of the fluid he had in his lungs when he was a baby we have to take every cold seriously because a little cough could turn into bronchitis. I propped him up a little bit on his blanket hoping it would help a little bit.
"Please don't get sick" I whispered stroking his cheek
I checked on Abby on my way back to the bedroom and she was out like a light. When I climbed back into bed Joshua's eyes were staring at me through the dark.
Can you hold off on breakfast for a couple minutes so I can pick up in here?"
His pumped his little fist at me but didn't so I took that as a yes. I opened the blinds to let some light in and fixed the bed. It looked like animals had been wrestling in it. Joshua gave out a good cry so that was my cue to feed him. While he was eating I managed to change his diaper and dress him in a cute blue jumper with a matching hat. I also placed some socks on his little feet and those dreaded mittens on his hands since he already managed to scratch his nose. It was around 7 when I heard the car door shut and my mom's voice. If he wasn't sleeping on me then I would've gotten up to greet them but you never wake a sleeping baby.
"Come in" I whispered when I heard a knock
"Just me" Edward answered back "Your mother's anxious to see him. It's all she talked about on the ride here"
"You can send them in" I laughed
I heard a slight squeal as my mom came into the room, Phil right behind her. She stopped at the doorway with her hand on her mouth gasping. I swear she looked like she was crying. Edward scooted around her to kneel next to the bed.
"You can come closer mom" I told her
She placed a gift bag down by the door and took a seat next to me on the bed. She pulled me into a soft hug and kissed my cheek.
"I missed you" she cried "Congratulations"
"Congrats Bella" Phil included
"Thank you. Do you want to hold him?"
"Of course I do" my mom jumped up
She made a cradle with her arms and I placed Joshua in them. She gasped and ran a finger delicately down his cheek, rocking slightly.
"He's absolutely gorgeous" she wiped a tear "Hello sweet Joshua. Grandma is so happy that you're finally here. He looks just like his father… and mother of course. Phil go grab the bag"
He turned around and handed my mom the baby bag. Then she handed it to me.
"Just a little something"
"Mom you know I don't like you spending money…"
"Isabella he is my grandson and it is my job to spoil him and all my grandchildren" she pushed the bag at me
I held up my hands in surrender and looked inside the bag. There were a couple outfits, a teddy bear, and a blanket with his name embroidered on it.
"Abigail and Ryan have the same blankets so I couldn't leave the newest baby without one" she stroked his cheek
"Mom its beautiful thank you"
"You're welcome baby" she pulled me into a hug
Joshua gave a grunt causing my mom to look down at him. She smiled and grabbed his hand.
"I know you are the one that's important. Phil come hold him" she turned around sharply
"Okay Renee. Settle down with a baby in your arms" he laughed
My mom passed him over gently and Phil cradled him. It was weird seeing such a muscular guy holding a little baby but it's the same thing when Emmett holds them so…
"Why don't we move to the living room? The kids will be up soon" Edward brought me out of thoughts
"Okay but I need help"
They walked into the other room with the baby and Edward came around to help me up. I wrapped my arm around my shoulders to lift me up. I grunted slightly.
"It's getting better" I muttered before he could say anything
"I didn't say anything" he laughed
"You were going to"
I made myself comfortable on the couch and he laid a blanket across my lap. My mom sat next to me, now holding the baby. I reached out to stroke the top of his head. I missed holding him already.
"So when are my other grandbabies going to make their presence?"
I looked at Edward and he nodded going to check on them "Soon. They don't usually sleep that late"
"Oh I miss them so much. I feel like a barely know them" she hugged Joshua closer
"Why don't you think about moving down here or at least visit more"
"We really should but it would be nice for you guys to bring the kids down. I'm sure they'd love the beach" she nudged my shoulder
"I probably shouldn't travel with a newborn"
"What a beautiful baby" she gazed staring at his features "You are going to be a handsome young man, just like your father"
"Well thank you Renee" Edward laughed
I turned my head to see his with Abby lying on his shoulder and Ryan standing next to him holding his hand. He brought Abby over to me and lowered her down in my lap. She noticed my mom staring at her and she laid her head on my chest making a putting face.
"Are you being shy?" I stroked her hair
"I think she still has one foot in dreamland"
"Joshua" she pointed
"What about him?"
"Can I hold him?"
"How about you have some breakfast first" I suggested "I think daddy is in the kitchen getting Ryan's"
"What do you want princess?" He asked
"Bagel" she hoped off my lap
The rest of the day was pretty laid back and I was so thankful for that. Both kids enjoyed telling my mom and Phil everything that they missed out on since the last time they saw them. Joshua behaved and slept most of the time, which is what I expected him to do. My offered to change his diaper every time he needed one which was nice. I almost excused myself to go take a nap. I couldn't keep my eyes open.
"Bella you look exhausted" my mom noted
"I am" I smiled
"Are you guys alternating at night?"
"As much as we can. I'll be okay"
At some point in the day it was time for lunch which was quick sandwiches for everyone because the kids wanted to go outside. My mom complained that it was too cold for them but little did she know that thier body temperatures are equipped to deal with it. Edward and Phil took them outside while we stayed in. I laughed watching them run around the yard while they tried to catch them.
"Edward absolutely adores them" she looked out the window
"He does" I smiled "I've never seen him so happy"
"Well I have. When he saw you walking down that aisle"
I blushed, knowing Edward was probably listening to us. I decided to change the subject.
"Mom, how come you still live in Florida? I know the main reason you moved there in the first place was to be with grandma but…"
"I know that Bella but I've been there so long now" she countered
"But you always say how much you miss me and your grandkids are here. I feel bad that Esme is really the only grandma they remember. Mom I miss you"
"I know baby I miss you too but I just don't think I could pack up my whole life and move out here. I can't make that kind of commitment. And what about Phil or his job?"
"His job moves around all over the place"
"I'll think about it"
"That's all I ask"
For dinner we had some pasta just because it was easy to defrost a jar of sauce. Ryan had a first tonight and fell asleep at the table, pasta all over his face. Abby had a fit because Edward wouldn't hold her at dinner like he was holding Joshua which landed her in time out. She then threw a fit sitting in the corner which landed her in her room for the night. Ryan then tried to copy her by throwing his pasta.
"Hey enough" I told him sternly "Or you're going straight to bed"
He threw some more pasta then started crying, I sighed going to pick him up.
"Sorry guys they're just tired"
"Oh we know honey, go ahead"
After he was in bed we chatted in the living room for a little while before my eyes kept closing. I think my mom noticed because I wasn't even sure what she was talking to me about anymore.
"She can't even keep her eyes open" she laughed "We should get going"
"I'm surprised Charlie is letting you guys stay there. I would love to have you here but unless you want to sleep on the couch…"
"It's fine. You guys have a lot to worry about already. We'll be fine" she pulled me into a hug and kissed my cheek "We'll see you guys tomorrow"
"She can talk your ear off" I turned towards Edward
"She misses you" he shrugged
"Well she doesn't like my offer so..."
"I know" he pulled me into a hug "Don't worry about her. I would like to get you into bed"
"Way ahead of you"
Short and sweet for the next couple of chapters with the baby, then I'll go into more.
