"Kensi is what?" - requested by goforsanta in the reviews
The silence in the bullpen is deafening. His hands are feeling clammy and are shaking. He tries to keep them still by clamping them together but it doesn't do anything. Actually it makes his body shake more than it already is.
"Is it hot in here? I think it is hot in here." He takes the next best folder and fans himself with it, the cool air doing it's job of calming him down a little. But just a little. Nobody reacts though and just stares at Deeks like he's crazy.
"Kensi is what?" Callen asks slowly.
"Uh..hmm." Deeks clears his throat. "Uhm she.. she is pregnant."
"Deeks." Sam clamps his hand on Deeks' shoulder, maybe a little harder than usual. "Did you know up our little sister?" At that Deeks looks up, terrified into Sam's hard eyes.
"Uh..hum... " he gulps hard. "I.. yes.. she.. Kensi is pregnant with my child."
"And you haven't made a honest woman out of herself, yet?" Callen intervenes.
"I asked her, i swear." He splutters over his words, at that both Sam and Callen raised their eyebrow.
"And?" Sam urges him on.
"Uh.." Deeks clears his throat again and bows his head before mumbling quietly. "She said no."
"Excuse me?" Nell interrupts them. "She did what?"
"Can we please stop this all now." Deeks says suddenly agitated. "You guys know now, so let's get this 'hurt her and i'll kill you talk over with'." And everyone in the bullpen looks at him confused at the sudden change.
"Tell me Deeks, where's Kensi?"
"Getting donuts, we talk, and she kinda forced me to tell you all be, and i quote 'you did this so you're responsible to tell them'" he shrugs. "So do you guys still want anything from me, otherwise i would like report that i did it and she can stop waiting around the donut store and get your gratulations." The team noticed easily that the no to his proposal hit him hard. That's why they ordered Kensi back.
"Congrats Kensi." The team welcomed her back from the donut store with hugs and kisses. She brought along some donuts as celebration and everyone took one. After the whole news party had calmed down a little she looks over to Deeks, he looks up and and gives her a smile at which she smiles back.
"So Kensi, with the bun in the oven now, when are you getting a honest woman?" Callen looks at hed from his desk next to hers.
"Uhm no. We're not getting married."
"Oh, we know." Sam adds.
"You told them?" She feaks out.
"They asked!" He defends himself.
"Still?!" She protests and gives him a hard stare before turning away and leaves.
"Thanks guys, thanks a lot." He groans, already thinking of all possible consequences this stunt had for him. He hasn't noticed though that Sam and followed Kensi and talked to her. The day continued without any communication between Kensi and Deeks, later of the two who dreaded going home that night and frantically searches for more paperwork, while Sam and Callen pack to leave. Nell and Eric say goodbye when they pass by and leave too
"Hey Deeks..." Kensi starts.
"What is it?" He asks without looking up
"I''m sorry.." she brings out.
"No worries, all good. Guys intimidated me, i was an idiot like always... it's me who should-"
"Deeks i'm sorry i said no." She had gotten up by now and sat on the edge beside him on his desk.
"Kensi, i know. You're not good with the marriage history so i get it." He shrugs and looks up at her.
"Well... actuall..." she plays with the hem of her shirt. "Well.. if you would still have me... i would like to marry you" she smiles shyly.
"Why the sudden change?" He looks her in the eye. "If it's because someone gave you a hard time, the don't let them. I'm okay with it." He smiles and stands up, pulling her in a hug and kisses her head. But she groans against his should
"Marty Deeks, give me that damn ring and marry me already." She huffs.
"Wow, bossy." He takes a step back and rummages through his desk drawers until he finds the box with her ring. "Here." She places the box in her hands. "It's in your hands, because i feels this is just because someone messed with your head. So take this, and when you're really, truely wanting it and ready for it - you will wear it." He smiles, kisses her forhead and gets their bags. "Now let's go home." He takes Kensi by the hand and walks to ths car.
Later that night, while he's fast asleep with an arm wrapped protectively over where their child was living now, she leans over to her nightstand. She takes the ring from the box and slips it on her finger. The size is right, it fits perfectly, and it feels nice right where it is.
"I'm ready." She realizes, while laying in bed, with the father of her unborn child gives her the safe feeling of home.
