"Revenge doesn't do anything but ruin everyone involved.

Love.

That's supposed to blossom, to enrich lives."

-Caroline Forbes by willowaus (Where the lonely ones roam)

She almost could see the police station until she bumped into someone, again. This wasn't her lucky day. Looking up and trying to hide her scared face, she came across two shiny green eyes.

"I'm sorry." She apologized and kept walking but a hand in her arm stopped her.

"Wait darling, I think we both have things we can discuss."

"I don't think so." She stated, looking back at her arm which was trapped in the man's strong hand.

It looked like the man wasn't going to give up so easily.

"Leave me alone!" She shouted now, trying to get free from the man's hold.

"I don't think so sweetheart, you are coming with me."

He kept his hand in Caroline's arm, forcing her to move in the direction he had in mind but she didn't know about.

"I have done nothing to you! Why are you doing this to me? I don't even know you." She tried to beg, half crying half furious with this man who had ruined her chance to be free.

"Oh darling," he whispered darkly. "You don't know me, it's true. However, it looks like the man who killed my wife has a thing for you. Which I don't find surprising," he stated glancing up and down at her and smirking dangerously, "You are certainly gorgeous."

"You are Orpheus?" she asked, now walking alongside him realizing that it would be impossible for her to escape from an old vampire's hold.

"That would be me, but call me Oliver; nowadays people refer to me like that."

Caroline recognized the path they were walking through and she instinctively began to try to break free again.

"Why are we going back to the mansion? Are you out of your mind!? They want to kill you, Klaus wants to kill you, this is a suicide plan, leave me out of this, please!" She shouted, making Orpheus' annoyance to rise.

"It's a vengeance plan, a great plan may I add because I will get to see Niklaus Mikaelson suffer just the way he made me suffer when he bedded my wife and killed her."

Caroline shivered; this man, this monster, just another one of them all was going to kill her, just when she almost could feel the warmness of her home, her mother's smile, her best friends laugh that she would miss until the day she died.

However, this was not the time to cry, not anymore. She had to think about something to get herself out of the mess she was in.

"Think about it, reconsider," she said out loud, "do you really believe that vengeance is the way to go? Do you really believe your wife would like for you to do that?"

It was a dangerous thing to do, make Oliver question his own choices, but if she was lucky, his wife wasn't half the monster Orpheus was, or at least she knew about justice and he cared about her dead wife and would like to think about what she would do.

"She would like justice to be made." He stated, still pushing her towards the Mikaelson's mansion, a building she could almost see the lights of at the end of the street.

"And you think this is justice? Killing or hurting me won't change the fact that she is dead, there are more ways to-"

"This is the only way I have!" He shouted, his eyes darkening with anger.

"He killed my wife and I want to make justice by making him suffer the way I suffered, isn't that justice?"

It was a rhetorical question so Caroline kept quiet, her face blank of any emotion, she knew it was the only way to face this man.

"I have seen the way he looks at you, he wants you. You are the only way I have to make him suffer; it looks like you are his only weakness since it's almost impossible to kill his siblings, even more to kill him."

With that his eyes left hers and turned towards the house.

Caroline hoped that she would find a way to save herself in the mansion, or perhaps the Mikalesons cared enough for her to help save her before killing Orpheous. When they were a few steps away from the house, she noticed the man that was holding her arm taking a phone from his pocket and making a call.

"Are you still in there?" he asked, not bothering if Caroline was listening.

"Wait there, I will probably need you again. Don't move." He hung up and left his phone in the pocket again.

She guessed that the man had his allies inside the house. This wasn't a good sign for her, she thought. Hopefully she would get out of this new mess alive, it was the least she could expect.

"I made everyone leave the house, brother." Elijah told Klaus who was in the front yard ordering his little vampires around. "But I couldn't find the witches that attacked us."

"I don't care what you do, brother. I just need to find Orpheus and kill him already." He whispered while he finished his talk with his last vampire.

"My men will take care of those witches, anyways." He replied, turning around and heading towards the house.

"What the bloody hell is going on?" A confused and bewildered Rebekah asked, going out the front door of the mansion and stopping Klaus in his tracks.

"Where were you?" Klaus asked coldly, not bothering to explain all that happened the last few minutes.

"I was in the-"

"Where is Caroline?"

Klaus' eyes were now wide open and his body tense, realizing that if his sister was here alone there was no way Caroline would have stayed in the kitchen, which meant…

"I don't know," Rebekah murmured softly, noticing her terrified face it seemed that she realized what that meant too.

There was a minute of silence until Elijah talked again.

"Perhaps it doesn't mean that-"

"What did you do?!"

In less than a second Klaus had Rebekah pinned against the nearest wall, his hand holding her neck just the way he did with Oliver.

"You should be checking on her!" He screamed in the youngest original face.

"I-" She couldn't almost find her voice. "I saw her before, she had a blazer on her hand." She gulped and she could feel his brother's eyes narrowing and darkening with each word her mouth left. "She told me she was cold so I went to find someone to turn on the heater. I haven't seen her since."

In one swift move, Rebekah was in the floor with her neck snapped and Klaus burning with rage.

"Niklaus…" Elijah said carefully.

"Not now brother," the hybrid said too calmly for Elijah's liking.

Noticing one of his maids walking through the hallway, Klaus ordered her to take his sister upstairs. With that done, he turned around to face his older brother.

"We should be going to find Caroline."

Elijah nodded but before he could say anything else, a voice stopped them.

"Now, now, you won't need to do that."

A tall dark haired man with green eyes stared down at the Mikaelson brothers, a beautiful blonde woman standing next to him, her eyes weren't looking up though, afraid of what would she see in the eyes of the man that kidnapped her first.

"Look what I found." Said Orpheus mockingly, holding Caroline's arm up. She flinched and rolled her eyes. "You should keep an eye on your human pets, they could get lost trying to escape."

Caroline could feel him smirk while Klaus' jaw clenched.

"She is not a pet, Orpheus." Elijah said calmly, he was always the one to talk first and try to make an insufferable situation better. "And I would suggest you to let her go if you wouldn't like any problems with me and my family."

There was a moment of silence that a dark laugh broke, tensing all the people around the mad 200 year old vampire who didn't seem to care what Elijah had said.

"Problems…" he sighed and took Caroline's arm nearer to him, "I think I have enough problems with you and your family to not end up alive out of this." He whispered, and Caroline shivered at how his voice didn't show even the slightest sound of fear.

"But don't worry, I won't leave this world and reunite with my wife without avenging her."

The tension between the vampires could be felt in the air and Caroline was cursing herself for bumping into a stranger and getting in more trouble than she was already in before. Then again, it wasn't her fault to be trapped in the middle of a war, was it?

"You won't do such a thing because there is no need for vengeance." Elijah said calmly.

Oliver chuckled and shock his head, pressing Caroline's body even closer to his and abruptly taking hold of her blond curls which made her flinch with pain.

Klaus made a step forward as a warning, his first clenching and his jaw hardening noticing Caroline's position, "tsk, tsk, tsk do I have to repeat again what you did to me? Do you expect me to back away from the gracious Original family? Terrorized of what they will do to me if I hurt one of their toys?" He snorted, "I'm not afraid of dying you see?"

The darkness that Caroline could feel and sense around only magnified the bright yellow shine of Klaus's eyes, and she wasn't sure anymore how this would end.

"Where was I again?" Orpheus wondered, "oh right, the lively human… We will see how are you going to use her once she is ruined." The old vampire's dark features appeared under his eyes and Klaus began to jump towards him when he felt a sudden wave of pain piercing his head.

Witches. Again. This couldn't be happening.

Klaus fought against them like he knew he could, no one could make the big bad hybrid kneel and he wasn't going to be staring at Orpheus while he drained Caroline. He saw him bite his wrist and put it on the blonde's mouth. At her second scream, Klaus broke himself out of the witches spell and rushed towards the man. Taking hold of a piece of wood from a tree beside him, he plunged it in the vampire's heart, watching him fall along with a Caroline's lifeless body.

While Elijah took care of the witches, Klaus picked Caroline up and brought her to his room. He didn't want this for her; he wanted her to be human, at least for some years before he could turn her and make her better. This could disturb her light.

The hybrid knew that she wouldn't take long to wake up and start her transition, so he placed her slowly on the bed and left the room for a moment.

He found Elijah outside, looking at the bodies of the witches burning in the fire.

"At least she is not dead." Elijah offered as a way of comfort, or that's what Klaus understood.

"There isn't a big difference between being undead and dead, brother," he growled.

They stared at the fire for some more time until the eldest Mikaelson broke the silence.

"I guess you will want her to complete the transition." He concluded and handed Klaus a vial of blood, "it's from one of our servants."

Klaus just nodded and took what his brother was offering him.

"She is smart so you won't have to tell her what is happening, hopefully she will realize this is the only way for her to survive, but you shouldn't pressure her to do something she doesn't want to do, you know?" Elijah turned his head to look at the hybrid for a second and what he saw was something he already knew.

"Okay brother, but try not throw the blood onto her throat"

With that Elijah left, surely going to check on Rebekah who should already be waking up, Klaus guessed. Following his brother he left the fire behind and went to see if the other blonde was already up.

Caroline could feel herself coming back from whatever had happened to her. The memories from the night came slowly to life, her dance with Klaus, her intention to escape and finally Orpheus.

She remembered how he bit her and how much it hurt, how she felt the life leaving her body, the taste of blood in her mouth and then everything went dark.

Perhaps she was dead.

She began opening her eyes gradually, one at a time to be sure that she wasn't somewhere in hell or heaven. Instead she was lying in a really comfortable bed, a bed it wasn't hers but belonged surely to one of the Mikaelson family members.

She was hungry, starving. She needed something to eat but she didn't know what. She looked around but she was just in an almost empty room apart from the usual furniture that made a bedroom.

The door placed just in front of her opened and she saw Klaus' back closing the door slowly.

"What's that smell?" She wondered out loud.

Klaus' eyes landed on her and he sighed looking away.

"Blood," he said simply, "it's the smell of blood."

There was a pause while Caroline tried to process this in her mind, "why…" she closed her mouth once she fully realized what was going on with her.

"Oh my god," she shook her head, "no, no, no." Tears were already falling from her cheeks and the hunger she felt building inside her, hunger for blood, was disgusting her. She was about to become what she hated most, she was going to be like him.

"Caroline…"

"You did this," she accused Klaus and when she saw him clench his fists as his sides, mouth opening to talk again she stopped him, "you wanted this, this is what you have been wanting since you kidnapped me. You couldn't fool me to fall for your charm and you made me a monster like you so I could stay here forever." The loathe in her words almost hurt Klaus, he was used to being feared, followed, admired even; but only his father saw him as a repugnant monster.

With incredible speed he was sitting in her bed, his face just a few inches away from hers and his hands holding himself at both sides of Caroline's body. She had to fall her head back so she could breathe and have more space.

"Now, now sweetheart, you mistake who I am. I did not order Orpheus to turn you, even if I was already thinking of turning you once you decided to be with me after some years." Her gaze turned even colder, dark veins appearing under her eyes without her realizing it, "you can't blame me for what he did and you know it."

There was a moment of silence until Caroline broke out again, "you were the one who took me from my home! You were the one who killed my two best friends! You killed Oliver's wife and he came against me because YOU have the foolish idea I will fall on my feet and become your queen!" Her finger was in his chest and her eyes were as cold as ice, "if you really believe I won't blame you for my whole life for destroying it, you are wrong."

To Caroline's surprise Klaus laughed at that and held her hand from the wrist, "you haven't completed the transition yet, love. You have a choice now," Caroline didn't like his smirk at the moment, "you can drink blood completing the transition and become a 'monster' like me," he said showing her the vial of blood he was holding in his other hand, "or you can die."

Caroline's face went blank and Klaus' smirk widened.

"You won't have to blame me your whole life once you are dead, you won't even have to become like me."

He left the vial in the nightstand next to her bed and got up, leaving Caroline behind.

"That was very risky brother," Elijah said when Klaus left his room.

The hybrid just shrugged.

"If I gave her the blood directly, you really think she would accept it?"

"Accept you, you mean?" The elder Mikaelson said knowingly. Klaus flashed his gold shinned eyes at him and turned to leave.

"What makes you think she won't let herself die? She has plenty of times stated she doesn't like who you are, told you what a monster you are." Elijah spoke wearily, watching his brother's reactions and when he was sure Klaus wasn't giving any hint of bursting he kept talking.

"She hates vampires, I don't believe she will willingly turn into one."

Klaus could still hear Caroline's heart bumping in her chest. Her breath was quicker than usual, she was nervous and in transition, and probably listing the pros and cons of becoming a vampire. He could almost hear her thoughts too.

He turned around to face his brother again, a smirk playing in his face but his eyes dark as the night.

"You are wrong in that statement dear brother, she doesn't hate vampires. She hates me, but I'm not a vampire, am I?"

It was a question that didn't need an answer, so Elijah kept silent.

"Unlike you, I have observed her behavior around my little vampires for the past months and it would surprise you how well she seems to manage and coordinate them all without my permission. Do you really believe she hates our sister?"

Elijah was pensive, but by the look he was giving the hybrid, he knew his brother agreed with him.

"She doesn't. Spending time around your kind has changed her view of vampires and their immortal lives. There is a whole world out there for her to discover and I just wish her to be by my side along the way. That's why I'm sure she will drink the blood, Elijah."

The Mikaelson's stared at each other for a long time until Elijah finally broke the silence.

"Aren't you afraid that by becoming a vampire she will lose her light? The one you have admired since you kidnapped her?"

Klaus' smile widened at that, "her qualities will improve once she turns, her light will combine with the darkness that comes with being a vampire. She will surely try to keep being a human, denying drinking blood from others, but I will be there to help her."

Elijah nodded slowly.

"Just the way she will be there for me soon."
