Safe and Sound
"Finnick?" She whispers. He turns his head slightly, the moonlight silhouetting the side of his face. "Yeah Katniss?" he asks, voice raw from mourning Mags, his late mentor, also one who felt like his kin. "Look at the sea," she says, getting up and padding over to him, her feet making no sound as they glide over the sand toward him. He looks to the ocean, and seeing nothing, turns back to her, eyebrow raised.
"The moonlight on the sea Finn!" she says impatiently, grabbing his chin and forcing him to look at the calm waters. He sees it, the silver light that looks like a path, a silver, glowing, magical path that the dead would walk on to get to Heaven. It is then he understands why she is showing this to him. To show him that Mags was safe, never to be hurt again, just like how, after Rue died, a young mockingjay had sung her Rue's melody, telling Katniss that Rue was safe and sound, in a happier place.
He turns to the girl beside him, who is smiling sadly at him, but still has her signature fire in her silver eyes, the fire that she was named after. "We're more alike than you think Finnick," she whispers as he lays his head in her lap, still staring at the path of light. She strokes his hair lightly, and he whispers, "Thank you Girl on Fire," before he closes his eyes, lulled into a peaceful sleep with the thought that his loved one was safe.
