The Mystery Kids: Just The Start

Chapter 16: Hospital News and The End

Location: Gravity Falls Hospital

Ten minutes passed and the ambulance has made it to the parking lot of the hospital where Mabel was quickly escorted to the operating room for surgery for her leg, while Dipper and Gwen were forced to wait in the waiting room. They sat silently, side by side, while holding hands, hoping that Mabel would be successful in surgery. Time passed slowly without any words spoken until Dipper decided to talk, hoping that the time would pick up speed until a nurse came out to tell them about Mabel's condition.

Dipper: So…how did it feel to be trapped by Gideon? Did he hurt you in anyway?

Gwen: It was horrible. I did have a shock collar on my neck, but it was only on for a short period of time. I did get shocked by the device and that dream demon used his powers on me when I tried to struggle out of the handcuffs and…yeah, it was horrible.

Dipper: Those jerks! I hate them both.

Gwen: Let's just be happy that Gideon is finally defeated and we don't have to worry about him any time soon.

He chuckled, knowing that she was right, but it was only a matter of time until his next escape plan…even if he was planning on it; but that didn't matter right at the moment. What mattered was that they would get an update soon about Mabel. However, a thought occurred to him; since Gideon was finally completed, what did this mean for the rest of the summer? What did this mean for the Mystery Kids?

Dipper: Hey, so now that Gideon's little "Reign of Terror" is over…what happens now?

Gwen had absolutely no idea what happens next after a mission was complete for the Twin Protection Program. She recalled that this mission was Henry's first mission that he was protecting the twins while Gideon was in power. Throughout the past few days, she'd had an amazing time with them; teaching them self defense, playing video games, and defeating Gideon. She was sad that it was basically over, and who knows what would happen in the next few hours.

Gwen: I think…I think everything goes back to the way it was. You and Mabel continue your summer here in Oregon, where I think I will be continuing mine back in California.

She heard Dipper gasp lightly, wishing that there was hopefully some alternative motive that could make her stay here and continue summer in Gravity Falls. She couldn't just go home and forget about the entire adventure she had with Dipper and Mabel. That's not right. After a few minutes of silence, Dipper finally replied.

Dipper: So, we'll never see each other or hang out ever again? Our adventures are over? The Mystery Kids are over too?

She was about to respond until they heard two sets of feet walk up to them. When they looked up, they saw a man who had money sticking out of his sleeves, had a black work suit on completed with a red fez and spectacles. The other one also had a black work suit on, with a black tie, and a cell phone sticking out of pants pocket. Both men were panting as they stared down at Gwen and Dipper. The con-man squatted down in front of Dipper while the other man got eye level with Gwen. Before they knew it, Stanford Pines embraced Dipper unexpectedly, while Henry Simmons looked into Gwen's eyes. She ended up embracing him before he got the chance to. After several minutes, everyone pulled away and Henry took Gwen by the hand and sat down on the opposite side of the room, so the Pines could have some privacy of their own.

WITH DIPPER AND STAN

Dipper watched Gwen go with her uncle to the other side of the waiting room so she could discuss some things with her uncle. Stanford Pines, who was not here during the Gideon incident, sat down and looked straight in his great nephew's eyes. When Dipper looked at him, he felt like his great uncle was feeling, sadness, relief and happiness, although he wasn't so sure about that.

Stan: Kid, are you okay? How's Mabel doing?

Dipper: I'm fine. I'm still waiting to hear anything on Mabel. She fell and received a broken leg, and a short time ago, she slipped out of consciousness. How did you know I was here?

Stan: That Henry guy told me. I pulled up to the Mystery Shack, not expecting a fence with a gaping hole in it. I saw this weird…I don't know…tower thing, and men dressed in black suits. Henry came up to me and asked if I was Stan, and so I asked if he was from the tax collectors. Anyways, long story short, we drove here to the hospital after he told me that you, you're sister, and some person named Wen came here in an ambulance.

The slightly younger Pines twin laughed lightly, after he corrected his Grunkle that Wen was actually Gwen. Dipper than explained what happened after the past few days when Gideon was ruling the town and how he and his sister got involved with the TPP and how Gwen taught them both self defense. Dipper decided to show Stan a few moves he learned and Stan found it humorous. The boy kept looking over at Gwen, and Stanford happened to notice. He explained to Stan that he kind of gained a little crush on her while they were back in California, but he didn't know how she felt about him. With that, Stan nudged him, telling Dipper that he should go talk to her and just tell her how he felt. Butterflies surrounded his stomach while he kept looking at her. He told Stan that he'll wait until Gwen finishes talking to her Uncle. If Dipper was going to confess, then he hoped that whatever he ends up telling her, won't make her hate him for the rest of his life.

WITH GWEN AND HENRY:

Taking Gwen by the hand to give Stanford Pines and Dipper some privacy, Henry Simmons walked over to the opposite side of the waiting room where he sat down and embraced his niece once again. He was proud of Gwen's accomplishment, and was happy that she was in one piece. However, both of them had questions and both of them hoped that they had the answers for each questions asked.

Henry: So Gwen, while I was pinning Gideon to the ground with the other agents, how did you manage to escape?

She sighed, hoping that, that specific question would not have been asked by her Uncle. She wanted to lie to him again and say "I kicked the doors so hard that they broke open" but she knew that lying wouldn't get her anywhere.

Gwen: That dream demon had came back and unlocked the door, telling me that they don't need me anymore, but in the future, me, Dipper, and Mabel are going to come in handy? I'm not so sure about that last part.

Her Uncle sat in silence for a few seconds after his niece responded to his inquiry. He did recall seeing that yellow triangle person for a short period of time, but he didn't bother to bring it up until she said that the floating dorito was the one who broke her free.

Henry: Is that what that triangle guy is called; a Dream Demon? He looked harmless.

Gwen: Trust me Uncle Henry you have no idea what he is capable of. Anyways, I have an important question for you.

Henry: I'm all ears.

Gwen: Okay. Well Dipper asked me what was going to happen next, since Gideon is no longer in power. He really wants to be friends with me for a long time, and he really wants to hang out a lot more this summer. At least that's what I think. Anyway, I really want to hang out with him and Mabel for the rest of summer, and I really want to get to know them. So what does happen after a completed mission?

Henry: Usually, the twins end up back where they left off; having a normal day like any other. This was my first time I took twins underneath my wing and I observed how well you and the Pines twins got along. I know you want to get to know them more and hang out with them for the summer, but-

He was unable to finish because the moment came that no one was prepared for; the nurse had come out of Mabel's hospital room and announced for the friends/family for her.

WITH THE DOCTOR:

Doctor: Pines.

Dipper, Stan, Henry, and Gwen all approached the five foot one inch doctor with brown hair and green eyes, as he stood with a clipboard in his hands, looking at Mabel's medical report.

Stan: Who are you?

Doctor: I'm Doctor Reynolds, and I'm taking care of your great niece.

Dipper: How's my sister? Is she okay?

Doctor Reynolds squatted down, eye level with the boy, with a sincere look on his face. Dipper had butterflies in his stomach, hoping that this update on his sister's condition was a good one, and nothing utterly horrible happened to her during the surgery.

Reynolds: Don't worry, you're sister did a great job, and the operation was a complete success. Her leg is now stabilized, and will have a cast on for the next six to eight weeks. Your sister was very brave, and just a short time ago, she regained consciousness. She asked for two kids Gwen, and I suppose your name is Dipper.

Dipper and everyone else were relieved that Mabel was in a much better state than earlier. He turned to Gwen and the two of them went in a happy embrace. Unexpectedly, he was so overfilled with joy that he accidentally kissed her on the lips quickly. She looked at him, shell shocked, and Dipper freaked out over embarrassment, apologizing for kissing her. He kept babbling until she locked lips with him, this time…longer.

Dipper: That was a really nice way of telling me to shut up.

Gwen: Come on…let's go see Mabel. Is it okay doctor?

Reynolds: Of course. Go right ahead.

MABEL'S HOSPITAL ROOM

Hand in hand, Dipper and Gwen walked into Mabel's hospital room, where she was sitting up and her leg elevated after surgery. Mabel's brightly metal smile appeared on her face when she saw her twin brother and best friend walk in and up towards her bed. She reached up to Dipper first and evolved in a tight embraced. She then moved her body over and unexpectedly wrapped her arms around Gwen. Mabel was so happy that everyone she knows and loves were all okay and all in one piece. The three of them chatted for a few minutes until they received an unexpected visit from Stan and Henry. Henry stood in the doorway while Stan gave a small embrace to his great niece. Stan told the same thing that he told Dipper while they were waiting on an update about her. Gwen gave the three of them some space, as she walked towards her Uncle, standing by him. She couldn't help put remember that answer her uncle was going to give her, but it got cut off. While the three of them were talking, Gwen brought it back up.

Gwen: Uncle Henry, what was that response you were telling me earlier?

Henry: Oh yeah. I know you want to get to know them more and hang out with them for the summer, but you have no place to stay in the town. Plus, if I let you spend the rest of summer here, you're going to have to get a job.

Gwen knew that her Uncle had a point. She really didn't know where she could find a job, and where she could stay; a hotel was way too expensive. Dipper, Mabel, and Stan had stopped talking and overheard the conversation that Henry was telling Gwen. The twins knew that this was the end of the program, and they knew that Gwen would have to go back to California for the rest of summer vacation. Stan saw his great grand kids expressions go from excitement, to sadness in the blink of an eye, knowing that their new friend was going to leave. After everything the kids have been through, Stan had an idea, that could possibly work, but he definitely needed permission. He stepped away from Mabel's bed, and went over to Henry and pulled him out of the hospital room where they discussed something important. Gwen wandered over back to Mabel's bed where it looked like both Dipper and Mabel were going to burst into tears any given moment.

Mabel: Are you leaving?

Gwen: I'm not sure. I want to spend the rest of summer here and hang with you guys, but I doubt that my Uncle will let me stay. I have no place to crash and I need a job. That's what he told me.

Dipper: You could stay at the Shack. My sister and I found a hidden room in there, and even though it's Soos' break room, I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you slept in there.

Mabel: And you could work with Wendy and Soos at the Mystery Shack! Stan said that he was looking for another person to work at the Shack. I'm sure he would be more than happy to hire you.

She shrugged, hoping that what the twins said were true statements. After a short period of time, Stan and Henry re-entered the room, with smiles on both their faces. Gwen felt Dipper grasp her hand again, hoping that whatever the verdict was, it would end up being a good one.

Gwen: What did you and Mr. Pines talk about?

Henry: We came up with a compromise.

Stan: I realized that you, Dipper, and Mabel have spent a lot of time together, and just got through this big thing with Gideon…that little creep! Anyway, I could use some help at my Mystery Shack, and there is a spot open and I heard that Gwen here, needs one. Not to mention the fact that you need a place to sleep, and I do have another room that Soos' uses for breaks, but I don't think he'll mind all that much. He's barely in their anyway. So….

All three of the kid's eyes practically almost bolted out of their heads when Stan said he needed another employee, and he had an extra room. Gwen stepped away from the twins and approached her Uncle with happy tears on the bridge of her eyes.

Henry: I can stay in Gravity Falls for the remainder of the summer?

With slight hesitation, since she and the twins had freed the citizens and made victory of the town, he nodded in response with a smile spreading across his face. The Mystery Kids screamed in excitement as Gwen embraced her Uncle as a sign of her gratitude. Dipper and Mabel hugged one another, knowing that their friend was going to stay with them for the rest of summer. Stan was pulled into the embrace with the twins, happy that Stan was letting her stay.

Gwen: Thank you so much Uncle Henry.

Henry: No problem. I can drop you off at the Mystery Shack tomorrow morning. We have a small victory party for completing our mission at the TPP Party Central in Portland. We'll stay in the motel and we'll leave early enough so you can spend summer with Dipper and Mabel.

Gwen: Sounds like a plan.

Before Gwen left the room, she thanked Stanford for letting her stay and for giving her a job at the Mystery Shack, as he just nodded back in response. She waved goodbye to Dipper and Mabel, and told them that she'll see them tomorrow.

As Gwen exited out of the room, Dipper and Stan remained in Mabel's hospital room as she continued to tell Stan about their adventure they had with Gwen over the past several days. Dipper however, was in a small daze; thinking about the outlook for the rest of the summer would be like. The Mystery Kids could finally go into the woods and search for any other creatures lingering throughout the dirty paths. They could all watch movies, stay up until midnight, do anything they could since they had no school to worry about. Now that they defeated Gideon, the outlook of the remainder of the summer looked pretty good. There was nothing to worry about, and if there was, his blood pressure would be bubbling, and butterflies would surround his stomach. The kiss than struck his mind. He and Gwen finally kissed after the several days they gotten to know each other. He had questions now swarming his mind about the kiss. What did it mean? Are he and Gwen more than friends? What's the next step in a friendship/relationship? Dipper freaked out a little, but he felt a hand in his; it was his sister's. He looked at her as she squeezed his hand. He squeezed back, knowing that everything was looking up.

Dipper was happy that Gwen would be staying with them at the Mystery Shack. A whole new chapter awaits for The Mystery Kids, since they had other secrets that were waiting to uncover.

A/N:

This concludes the first story in The Mystery Kids series.

I hope you all enjoyed this story since the day I posted it.

Thank you so much for all of the postive reviews I have recieved all throughout this fanfic, and I can't believe that this is the end!

Time flies fast when you're having fun!

The sequel story will probably come begin during my spring break.

My spring break begins on April 3rd, and if I have time, I will try to post the first chapter.

I will probably try to write it in the story format instead of script form.

I think that's best.

If I'm writing my oneshots like that, then maybe its best if I write the sequel in that form.

Anways, I know that this is dragging a bit, but once again, thank you all so much and I can't wait to see you in the sequel which is going to be titled:

The Mystery Kids: Bill Strikes Back

Thanks again!

No mean comments please!

R&R!
