Chapter 12: Wrong Turn

It was another day for the bit-more-extraordinary-than-normal boy Yuuki Rito; he would expect it to go as usual, which in itself was an unusual process to be honest: teased by her sister, experimented on by his fiancée Lala, chased for 'purposely' being ecchi by Yami, and told about school morals by Yui- that and some more interactions with his friends. The things he'd been told a few days ago about mysterious otherworldly beings coming after him was still on the back of his mind, but he thought he could probably ward them off; after all, there was not only himself, but the likes of Yami, Viktoria, Yuka and Mea, who all seemed to want to help him, even though Rito himself saw no reason to. Even the people who he'd met more recently, were at least a bit friendly to him, even if they weren't exactly human.

"Hey, Viktoria-san, sorry about yesterday… I was being chased and I jumped to the first window I saw… and it was you… changing…" Rito said through a blushed face, as Viktoria did not look at him.

"So… that's what you've been thinking about… did you like what you saw?" Viktoria calmly responded, causing Rito to turn another shade of red.

"No… it was… very… inappropriate of me… I didn't… see a thing," Rito had to stutter as he realised Viktoria had got him.

"Hmpf, you are a hentai teenager! That was the only time that you'll be that close to a girl," the blonde vampire insulted with a smirk, but seeing Rito's blush gone, she became suspicious.

"Is that so… close to a girl… I don't know, that girl didn't really have the looks of one, she was more like an ogre… what was her name again? Ahh yes, Viktoria," replied Rito with a chuckle as he jumped up.

"Run like a bitch, Rito, because when I get to you, I'm going to give you more scratches than a scratching post for cats," Viktoria said in quite fury as she jumped to pursue a laughing Rito.

"You couldn't really catch up to me, could you? That is called evasive skills, and it'll serve you well in a fight- make sure you remember that," Rito said strongly to Viktoria who just looked annoyed.

"Anyways, what's with all the commotion here," Rito observed as he stopped outside the college entrance, with a large group of students crowding around something.

"Maybe it's another alien, or something like that," Lala suggested with her usual cheerful smile.

"I doubt it… the crowd isn't asking any awkward questions; if there was an alien there, then they definitely would," Rito answered back confidently.

"Excuse me guys, what's going on here?" Rito asked into the crowd as he moved towards the centre. What was before them was quite interesting, for it was a spiralling mass of weirdly coloured gas or some other material, and it was also man-sized. It reminded Rito of a wormhole or a portal- more of something you'd see in a sci-fi fiction, although in his life…

He could hear the crowd making their own conjectures about what was in the portal, or what it actually was:

"Wow, it's like Star Wars- I almost expect Yoda to pop out".

"Maybe, it takes you to somewhere on the other side of the world, like the pyramids, or the Sahara Desert".

"Surely it has to be leprechaun's pot-o-gold- you can see the rainbow coming up."

The electromagnetic levels from this portal are really high, so we can assume that it is something close to unnatural. But just wondering where it goes to… who knows? It could even be a parallel universe or something, Rito thought with apprehension.

"Viktoria, I don't like the look of that… tell me you can sense that unnatural energy coming from it?" Rito said to his vampire friend, hoping she would sense it as well.

"Yeah, this thing doesn't seem like it would be possible on a planet. It doesn't seem like something alien either- could it not be from our universe at all?" Viktoria asked, leaving Rito a bit more curious.

"Alright, I've decided… I'll go, okay? Whatever is in there, might cause danger, so I have to find what specifically is in there," Rito stated as he rubbed the back of his head.

"No! I'm not letting you go on your own- you aren't just going to leave your friends like this again!" Viktoria responded rather fiercely, surprising Rito.

"I'll be fine- in fact, I promise you that I will come back okay? So don't worry about me, Blondie, I can take care of myself. Just ensure everything here is fine, Viktoria. Take care of yourself, I'll be back quite quickly," Rito stated with a smile on his face as he waved, walking into the mysterious portal.

Take care of yourself, Rito, we all need you, Viktoria thought in her mind, mirroring thoughts in Rito's other friends' minds.

Rito looked around, the clouds were normal, but the orange-red sky and ruins of buildings around him certainly weren't. When he peered up into the strange sky, he could no longer see the portal he came from… it wasn't around him either. You're joking right? I'm now stranded, fun times…

Hi everyone. Here's another chapter to keep you're a bit entertained (at least)- making things more interesting from this chapter onwards (hopefully). This story is a bit erratic in terms of the release, but I assure you that I haven't stopped writing it unless I explicitly state so. Again, thanks for reading and enjoy!
