It was supposed to be a quiet day for Merlin, he was free, Aithusa was off to who knows where and he had just settled himself down with a book in his favorite chair... but nothing goes ever the way he would like it to go.

He had just taken a sip of his tea when a bright light appeared in the middle of the room, startling the warlock so that he shot upwards, ready to defend himself in case whatever came out of the light tried to harm him.

It was when the light started to disappear that he blinked in surprise. He had expected a lot, but not what now stood before him. It was large lion, his mane flowing proudly around his head as he glanced down at him with his mighty, powerful and yet gentle eyes.

Merlin gaped at the creature, he didn't feel afraid, instead he was simply amazed as he felt a gentle magic brush against his soul. 'W-who are you?'

The lion stared at him with a slightly amused look. 'My name is Aslan and I'm here for you, Emrys.' Aslan stepped closer to him, his mighty teeth just a small distance away from him. 'Fate has more in store for you, it's why I ask you to come with me, there's one more destiny you have to fulfill.'

The raven blinked. Another destiny? 'What're you talking about?'

'Destiny has chosen you for another story... The land of Narnia is in grave danger and the only ones who can save Narnia's people are the sons of Adam and the daughters of Eve, but they can't do it alone. They need guidance to become Narnia's saviors, too become Narnia's kings and queens. They need your guid-.'

Halfway through the story Merlin's mouth had dropped, who did this giant cat think he was? One royal prat wasn't enough, no now he had to babysit four! No way in the world was he going to do that!

So that was why he crossed his arms and glared at the giant cat in front of him. 'I'm not going to do that! I already had to watch over one prattish king and I just refuse to watch four!'

'But-.' Aslan tried.

'No!' Merlin snapped, he felt angry, but at the same time he could feel his heart ache. It wasn't only that he didn't want to watch over these royals, but also the memories that rushed through his head as he thought of Arthur. They may have fought a lot, his king may have been a prat, but they were also friends... and he missed him. 'I don't want to.' This time he felt the sadness in his mind spread through his voice.

'I ask of you to rethink your decision, Emrys.'

'No, I'm not going to do it.' Aslan just had to find someone else, he had had enough... he wasn't going to carry the weight of an entire kingdom on his shoulders. 'Please leave, I'm not going to babysit these little prats.' The last words he almost snapped at the lion as the both of them looked into each other's eyes. 'Just do it yourself.'

He could see the emotions roam around in those golden eyes before they settled themselves on realisation, Aslan blinked for a moment as he tilted his head to the side. 'Fine, than I will do it myself... Goodbye, Emrys.' And he had barely said those words before he disappeared through another portal of light.

And that was how Merlin ended up alone again, the tears that he had tried to hold in now slowly running over his cheeks as he thought of long lost times. For once he longed for Aithusa's return, her arms around him, but now he was just all alone, with only his lost king on his mind. Fate was a cruel thing.
