A/N: Today I have written a story for all the mothers out there, especially for my own. So, happy mothers day mom! (yes, all just ignore that this is a day late) and also as a little present from me to you because yesterday, on mothers day, it was my birthday.

Merlin was standing silently in front of the mighty sea, watching as the waves hit the beach. He was all alone, but he didn't mind it though, somehow it felt right to be all alone.

He watched as the sun was slowly falling, turning the most beautiful colours of red and orange. He bit his lip, this day wasn't supposed to be beautiful, it was supposed to be cold and dark. A silent tear ran over his cheek and he slowly stepped forwards, feeling the cold water brush against his legs, soaking the fabric of his pants, but he kept walking.

Waves hit his knees when he stopped, gripping the rose in his hand even tighter. It was a deep pink colour, the core turning even a light purple, he knew that she loved these colours, it was why he had chosen this one for her.

Finally, for the first time that day a small smile crossed his lips, he knew that she wanted him to be happy and not sad, especially not on this day... but still. He laughed and cried at the same time, watching as the sun had completely disappeared behind the horizon, the day was nearing its end.

He brought the rose to his lips, placing a gentle kiss on it before he sank through his knees, the cold water hitting his chest, but he just didn't care. He placed the flower in the water, he could already feel the current trying to pull it out of his hand. He waited a moment more before he let go, immediately the rose rushed through the fingers, disappearing into the dark sea.

A sob left his lips, but he wasn't sad, he hadn't lost the rose, he had just given it to her. He knew that it had always been her wish to see the sea, but she had never been able to... He felt guilty, he should have helped her fulfill it, but he couldn't do that anymore now, this was the only thing he could do for her.

More tears fell from his eyes and he looked for a moment more at the sea before turning around and slowly walking back to the shore. He didn't look back at the sea, he just kept walking, over the beach and through the dunes.

He reached his camp and it was then that he burst out, slowly sinking down to the ground as he looked up at the sky. ''Happy mothers day, mom!''
