Chapter 8
With tears burning in his eyes over his emotional turmoil Alex brought down his raised fist with a sickening crack that could be heard throughout the room.
Alex glanced down at his hand and could immediately tell it was broken, bones had pierced through his skin and blood dripped from his fingers. Although his nerves were on fire he felt no pain because all he could think of was what Jake's face would've looked like if he hadn't changed the direction of his fist.
Slowly Alex removed his knee from atop Jake's chest and stood up. He kept his eyes on the floor but he didn't have to look around to tell that every pair of eyes were on him. Alex could feel their gazes burning into him. Seconds ticked by and still no one made a sound, it was as if they were under a spell, that or either they were all too afraid. Afraid that by making any movement or sound they would somehow cause Alex to turn back into a crazed killing machine.
Not waiting for the spell to be broken or to see the aftermath of the fight Alex fled. No one tried to stop him as he walked out of the cafeteria and then as soon as the doors closed behind him ran out of the school. Alex didn't know where he was running to; all he knew was that he couldn't stop. It wasn't until he pasted the park and turned the corner that he realized where he was going.
"Alex! Stop!" Fiona voice broke through the silent room like a knife. She stepped out of the ring ready to take action if needed. "Alex, you need to stop" Fiona said again her voice loud and clear yet clam. It seemed as if her voice had broken a spell, for Alex's face light up with recognition. His eyes went wide as if all that had happened was suddenly sinking in.
Fiona watched in distress as Alex's fist slammed into the cafeteria floor. A shiver went down her spine as she heard the bones in his hand break and pierce his skin. She couldn't help but just watch as Alex fled the room for she was frozen from shock.
As soon as the doors shut behind Alex it was like some type of spell was broken. Jake's friends rushed to his side, checking his injuries and helping carry him to the nurse's office. As they carried Jake out the crowd broke into debate.
"Oh my gosh, I can't believe that just happened. Seriously, they need to lock that kid up... Hellooo? Fiona?" Stacey said stepping next to Fiona.
"What? Sorry, I... I guess I'm just in shock." Fiona replied, her mind still on Alex and the fight.
"I can't blame you, like I knew the druggie was dangerous and all but I didn't think he was like a killer. I mean seriously what a freak, maybe Jake will press charges and Rider will finally be locked up for good... Hey Fiona, where are you going?" Stacey called out.
Fiona didn't bother to look back as she pushed her way through the crowd and out the doors. As soon as Stacey talked about someone locking Alex up and sending him away Fiona realized someone didn't have to send Alex away, he was already running away. Alex was retreating deep inside himself, and it's was Fiona's job to make sure that he didn't get to the point of no return.
Walking out of the school doors Fiona took out her cell phone and clicked on the world wonders app. Before she had left the bank last night Fiona met with Smithers and he had installed the app in case she ever needed a way to find Alex. The app was just one of the many gadgets he had equipped her with for the mission. It wasn't long before the app pin-pointed Alex's whereabouts. Fiona didn't recognize the location but it was only a few miles from the school so without a second thought she took off running down the street.
Twenty-five minutes later Fiona found herself outside a cemetery's gates. What is Alex doing here Fiona thought. Slowly she crept forward, graves had always creeped her out. The idea of stepping on dead bodies everywhere you walked just seemed wrong. Fiona couldn't see Alex but she could hear muffled crying up ahead so she headed that way. She started to make out a blond figure, she was just rounding a tree when a branch snapped under her foot. Alex's head snapped up, he made eye contact with her and then without saying a word he got up and ran.
"Alex wait!" Fiona called after him, but he was already long gone.
Fiona walked up to the grave Alex was previously kneeling in front of and looking down she saw the familiar Rider last name etched into the stone, but then she looked at grave next to it and a gasp escaped her lips. As she read the names her heart ached for Alex and tears were shed for the pain he must feel.
Alex ran with tears escaping down his face. How did she find me there Alex wondered. Although he didn't exactly know how Fiona found him he knew who was responsible for her intruding into his life. Alex was done, he swore he'd never give them what they want but if it meant being able to live his life alone again then he would.
Alex arrived in front of The Royal and General bank and walked straight through the doors and headed to the elevator.
"Excuse me sir, but you can't go back there it's for bank employees only." The receptionist called out.
"Lay off will ya, I am a member of this bank so shove it already. And feel free to tell Jones I'm here to see her, but I'm sure by now she already knows." And with that said Alex stepped into the awaiting elevator. He pressed the 5th floor button and as the doors closed smirked at the receptionist who was on the phone giving him a death glare. Please, Alex thought is that really what you call a death glare.
Alex walked out of the elevators and straight to Miss. Jones' office. He didn't bother knocking as he walked right in.
"Alex, please take a seat. I believe there are some things you wish to discuss." Miss. Jones said while motioning to the chair in front of her desk.
Alex ignored Miss. Jones suggestion, "I want her gone now." He practically yelled in her face.
"Alex if you could please just calm down so we could talk a little more rationally"
"I am speaking rationally, and as I said I want her gone now, she has-"
"Alex, I'm afraid that just isn't possible-"
"Bull shit it ain't possible, make it possible" Alex cut in.
"Alex, please calm down and let me explain. Fiona isn't going anywhere, we can't have you living alone-" Miss. Jones tried to explain.
"The hell I can't live alone, I can be sent to my death and be forced to literally kill or be killed but I can't be trusted to make pancakes and get to school on time. That's the biggest load of crap I've ever heard" Alex ranted. He couldn't understand her rationality, she was literally making no sense.
"Alex I'm sorry but it's been decided not by me but the higher ups that you aren't allowed to live alone, it's just too much of a liability. So unless you are gone on a mission, Fiona will always be by your side." Mrs. Jones said, bracing herself for Alex's next out outburst.
There was no point in arguing Alex could see that they weren't going to change their mind so there was only one option left. "Then send me on a mission." Alex said.
"I'm sorry, but what did you just say?" Miss. Jones asked in surprise. In all her time working with Alex never had he demanded to be sent on a mission.
"I said send me on a mission, I don't care how dangerous or how long I want to go. I want a mission." Alex said his face set in determination, he was going to get a mission.
