Hi all! I hope your week was fablous. Mine was kinda rough. A lot of big adult decisions and not enough time to do homework due to that. But I managed to finish the chapter somehow :D
I'm so glad you enjoy the fluff last chapter! We will revisit some of the things brought up in the coming bit. For now, dance crew time! This chapter may seem a bit sparse due to the fact that i just introduced the crew and then they did their preliminary competition. But dont worry, there will be more Jelsa fluff next week. Remember, if they pass to regionals, Jack is taking Elsa out on a real date ;)
Enjoy!
Disclaimer: My big adult decisions this week did not involve my plan to own Disney and Dream Works... so I still don't wn anything yet...
Elsa took a deep breath. Lights flashed around her. Colors passed by her in a blur.
Just breath.
This was it. This was Preliminaries. They had to get into the top twenty-five across the region to advance to Regionals. They had a kick-ass set, but she was still nervous.
"Five minutes to DDW Dance Crew," a crew member shouted as they passed by.
Elsa felt Jack's hand on the small of her back, and his breath in her ear. "You okay, love? You look like you're gonna throw up."
She turned to see the concern in his eyes, and managed a smile. "I'll be okay. You know how I am with performances."
Jack chuckled, "Just remember to ignore them. Pretend it's just you and me in our practice room."
She grinned and playfully shoved him. "Or it could be just me in MY practice room, you intruder."
Jack laughed and pulled her into his embrace.
"Oi! Love birds! Ready?" Meg shouted at them. Megra, or Meg for short, was one of Elsa's closest friends on the crew. Her sassy attitude came through in her favorite style; hip-hop. She also rocked a good Latin, but hip-hop was by far her forte. Meg was a crowd favorite, and all the boys thought she was hot.
Elsa blushed and pushed Jack away. She was still uncomfortable with the physical affection, especially when her new friend teased her all the time, but she had been gradually getting used to it.
Meg was just one of the ten different people on the dance crew. With Jack, Elsa, and Meg, that left seven more unique characters.
Simba, a playful, yet grounded sophomore was well rounded. He was a good hip-hop dancer, good at different kind of Latin, including Samba, and really liked Broadway Jazz. All the girls fell for his dark skin, rippling muscles, and accent!
Simba's best buddy, Timon, who is a junior, does not act his age. His pranks and goofy attitude sometimes get him in trouble. Timon somehow manipulates his lanky build to do hip-hop and Broadway Jazz. Ironically enough, he has had some Ballroom training and really enjoys a good Jive or Foxtrot, as well as a couple others.
If it isn't bad enough to have one prankster on the team, DDW had two. Marty, a lanky black junior, is Timon's partner in crime. A fiery ball of energy, Marty harnesses it to dance hip-hop and some Latin. His secret strength is that he is heavily trained in ballet and can do contemporary dance, but he doesn't like to acknowledge his skills, claiming they aren't "manly," unless it saves the day and a competition.
Giselle is the glue that holds the team together. The naïve, but sweet freshman was professionally trained in ballet and Ballroom until her freshman year of high school, where she gave them up to do hip-hop and join her high school's dance team. Her technique is always impeccable and she is a fast learner. Her enthusiasm constantly encourages the team.
The chill, yet passionate Mexican, Puss (no one knows his real name), is the master of Latin. He constantly smokes everyone in that division every year. But his talents don't stop there; he is also good at hip-hop. The constant ladies' man, Puss wins the hearts of all the judges.
Ariel, a playful red-headed freshman, aspires to be a Broadway dancer. She always brings a show to the stage through her emotion and vulnerability. She has a constant grace from her many years of training. She dances hip-hop very well and desires to learn all the different styles. Her newest goal has been contemporary and Samba with Simba. Though she is sweet and sincere, she tends to be a bit shallow and desires popularity.
Vanessa, known to be the "sexiest" on the team, rules the crowd. Her long black hair and lean legs are her staples. She rocks hip-hop and latin, and isn't afraid to get "down and dirty" to get votes. She has Ariel under her thumb and wants all the dance solos. Vanessa has a thing for Jack, due to his hotness and position as the leader of the crew, and was pissed when Elsa was invited on. So far, she has been cordial, but sometimes her words bite.
Though everyone had their strengths and weaknesses, somehow they all united and fit each other perfectly. The balance of the team was perfect. Jack had been working hard, using much social media, to get their characters and talent around the system. The DDW Dance Crew has always been popular with the crowd and Jack hoped to keep that. With the leaving of Esmerelda, Jack decided to advertise that they had a new member that would make their 'debut' here and did not spread Elsa or her talents yet, leaving her a mystery. The crowd was eating it up, and Jack could hear the excitement building as they waited in the wings of the stage.
He reached down and squeezed Elsa's hand. "You got this Princess," he murmured into her hair.
This is it. Elsa looked at her hands and then back up, determined. I got this. They walked out onto the stage and stood, heads down.
The strains of the music started, the crew moving in three groups. The first one establishing a small section, the second expanding on it, and the third expanding on that. Then they moved together as a team.
Nice to meet you, where you been
On each of the words, they moved choppily, hitting different moves sharply.
I could show you incredible things
Then they smoothed it out, the each girl interacting with a different boy.
Magic, madness, heaven, sin
Saw you there and I thought
This same idea repeated, hitting the words on the hits of the music and then smoothing it out when the singer did.
Oh my God, look at that face
You look like my next mistake,
Again, the girls pushed the boys around. It was seemingly a fight for dominance, full of passion
Love's a game, wanna play?
They all moved across the stage, hitting the drum beats of the music.
New money, suit and tie
I can read you like a magazine
Ain't it funny, rumors fly
And I know you heard about me
So hey, Let's be friends
I'm dying to see how this one ends
Grab your passport and my hand
This followed suit; sharp contrasting with smooth, passion and dominance, boys versus girls. Everyone synced up, ending with their hand sticking out on the word "hand." Then Vanessa stepped forward, doing a small and sassy solo:
I can make the bad guys good for a weekend
The music froze. Then it started again…
You know what to do
With Vanessa in front, the whole crew turned, backs facing the audience.
with that big fat butt
On the hits, they put each of their hands on their hips and dropped them into a swing on "butt," freezing and turning their heads over their shoulders to the audience.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle
And the whole crew shook it down on each of the words.
As the whistling chorus to the popular Jason DeRulo song started, they jumped to face forward and started dancing.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle
The movements hit every beat of the music; true hip-hop at its finest
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle
Just a little bittle
Swing!
On this last note, they all posed with the freezing music, some girls swinging their hips, some pushing their weight around, and Elsa even managed to get a triple spin with a plant.
Then the strains of "Am I Wrong" started.
I ain't trying to do what everybody else doing
Everyone hit all the beats, some facing different directions, then freezing at the end of the line.
Just cause everybody doing what they all do
The same idea, but different choreography ensued.
If one thing I know
I'll fall but I'll grow
I'm walking down this road of mine, this road that I call home
Everyone synced up, following the phrasing of the music. They pushed backwards on the last line, leaving the front half of the stage open.
Some of the better Latin dancers, including Puss, Jack, Elsa, and Vanessa, moved forward quicker, the rest of the crew taking smaller steps.
So am I wrong,
For thinking that we could be something for real?
Now am I wrong,
For trying to reaching the things that I can't see
The four began to do different moves, playing to their strengths. Puss emphasized his latin roots, Vanessa played up the boys, Elsa did contemporary tricks across the stage, stopping sometimes to throw some salsa moves in there, and Jack mixed hip-hop with latin. The rest of the crew followed well-done choreography inspired by latin.
But that's just how I feel
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
The girls, in front of the guys, wiggled their hips and dropped, then rose to spin away.
That's just how I feel
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
They did the same thing, only not in front of the guys, spinning out of it.
That's just how I feel
Trying to reach the things that I can't see
The music froze again.
Then it hit, the start of "Bang, Bang" playing.
The crew posed on each of the hits.
She got a body like an hourglass
But I can give it to you all the time
She got a booty like a Cadillac
But I can send you into overdrive
The crowd was going wild with the beginning of a favorite song. The crew was moving across the stage, posing with the different hits in the music and showing their personalities.
You've been waiting for that
Stop, hold up, swing your bat
Elsa breathed in deeply, hitting the sharp beats and then getting the contrasting smooth parts, shaking down.
See anybody could be bad to you,
You need a good girl to blow your mind, yeah
The crew settled into a formation.
Bang bang into the room
I know you want it
Bang bang all over you
I'll let you have it
The choreography, though simple, played to everyone's strengths and the crowds' pleasure.
Wait a minute let me take you there
Ah
Wait a minute 'til ya
Ahhhhhh
The girls dropped, one leg out, and the rose
Bang bang there goes your heart
I know you want it
Back, back seat of my car
I'll let you have it
Wait a minute let me take you there
Everyone posed on the music hit.
Wait a minute 'til ya
The crew hit the final pose, frozen.
Silence.
The crowd and the judges erupted in cheers, many standing to their feet and stomping.
The crew broke their pose, everyone laughing and patting each other on the back, some playing up the audience.
Elsa grinned. I did it.
Hope you enjoyed :D
