Chapter 35:
THOMAS P.O.V:
Thomas has been out for a few days now. Avery and the other Gladers have been worried sick that something went wrong. That was until he decided to make a dramatic bounce back to the world.
"Thomas?" he could hear voices in the distance.
"Thomas can you hear me?" the voices we're closer, as if they were right next to him. Thomas opened his eyes slowly, light pouring into his vision. He was blinded for a second then got a better look at his surroundings. The first person he seen was Chuck, who smiled.
"Thomas is awake!" he yelled. Then he turned his attention back to Thomas.
"Do you have to scream?" Thomas asked him, his head pounding.
"Sorry 'bout that. Just really happy you are still alive. You're lucky I don't give you a big kiss" Chuck said.
"Please don't do that." Thomas said, slowly trying to sit up. He leaned back against the wall and stretching his legs out on the bed he was on.
"So, how long did it take?" he asked Chuck.
"Three days." Chuck replied. "We put you in the Slammer during the nights. Then brought you back in here during the days. Thought you were dead." Chuck told him.
"Did anymore Grievers come?" Thomas wondered. Chuck gave him a sad look.
"Yeah, they got Zart and a couple others. One a night. Minho and Avery with some other runners have searched the Maze for an exit, but they have found nothing. They tried to find something where they could use they code you guys found. Why do you think the Grievers are only taking one shank at a time?" Thomas started feeling sick, he knew the answer to that question.
"Get Newt and Alby." Thomas told him. "Tell them we need to have a Gathering as soon as possible."
"Serious?" Chuck looked at him.
"Chuck, I just went through the Changing. Do you think I'm serious?" Chuck left without another word.
Thomas talked to Teresa for a few seconds before the door to the room he was staying in opened. Avery walked in.
"You're stupid, you know that?" Avery said.
"Hello to you too."
"Thomas you could have died. Which we thought you did, multiple times. You scared us. You're a shucking shank you know that?"
"Yes I am. But now I have answers. Answers that will help us, Avery. I can't promise that it will be the answers we want but we need them." Thomas said standing up and walking over to her. Avery was silent for a few minutes then she jumped at him. Hugging him. Thomas was shocked by the guesture, but hugged her back after a few seconds.
"Don't do that again." she mumbled against his shoulder.
"Trust me I won't." he laughed. Then something hit him. A memory.
Thomas must have been only eleven in this memory. He was walking down a long white hallway. Doors leading to different rooms on each side of him. One door opened up ahead.
"Ah, Thomas. There you are. I have been looking everywhere for you." A lady said, smiling at him. "I wish to speak to you for a few moments. Is that okay?" Thomas nodded at the lady.
"Okay Thomas, I'm Melissa, how are you?" Melissa asked him.
"Good." Thomas told her, noticing there was another person in the room. A young girl, about a year younger than him.
"Please sit." Melissa said. Thomas sat next to the girl.
"Now I have called you both here for a reason, Thomas and Francesca."
"Why is that?" Francesca asked.
"Because there is something important I must tell you." Melissa informed them. The two kids looked at her, wating for her to continue on.
"Okay." Thomas said, unsured of what to say.
"You're brother and...
"and sister." Thomas said stepping out of the hug. Avery looked hurt.
"what's wrong? Thomas? Are you okay?" Avery said walking towards him slowly.
"Yeah. Just remembered something. Something about me and you." he told her, looking at her.
"What about me and you?" she asked him.
"Well..."
"What?"
"We're brother and sister."
