Chapter 5

A crash of thunder shook the house as Paige entered the living room balancing a tray of empty teacups in one hand and a teapot in the other.

"I think this storm has something to do with Piper" Phoebe sighed, glancing out at the rain soaked windows.

Paige poured a cup of tea for everyone in the room and handed one to Andy.

"I'm sure it does" Chris added, shifting his gaze to Leo.

"Are you ready?"

Paige nodded and Phoebe got up off of the couch to stand beside her sister. Leo gently lifted the lid off of the urn and grey mist surrounded the sisters. Their Goddess powers were sucked back into the urn and Leo closed it promptly.

"Still no luck scrying?" Paige asked, looking over to the map that was sprawled out over the coffee table.

"Nothing" Phoebe took a sip of her tea before returning back to her spot on the couch.

"Well if anyone can come back from this it's Piper" Leo began, walking over to give Wyatt a quick kiss on the top of his head. "Chris knows how to contact me if you need me".

"Where are you going?" Phoebe's raised slightly.

"The Elders have returned and are calling for me". Leo gave one last smile to Wyatt before orbing away.

Phoebe's arms flew into the air. "Did he just bail on us? Is that what he did?"

Andy cleared his throat as he stared deeply into his teacup.

"Uh ... what about, you know, helping us find his wife?" Paige added, looking to their new whitelighter.

"He's trusting in you to do that" Chris smiled. "You need to find Piper and talk her down before she sets up shop somewhere and throws the world into chaos. Then it'll be too late for her."

"Okay, maybe you missed the part about Piper being Leo's wife."

"Look, you have to understand. Things have changed. The Elders need Leo up there to help restore order." Chris tightened his shoulders, standing tall. His father always taught him posture would help when he wanted to make his point. But his Dad never had the slender frame that he had. He was built muscular.

"Cut to the chase, future boy. Is this about Leo being turned into an Elder, or what?" Paige interrogated the young man. She inched closer towards him.

Andy noticed Chris' body tighten. His muscular arms crossed over his chest.

"...He's on the path." Chris' confidence was fading.

"Okay, don't give us that creepy pod-people your world, being an Elder may be cool but in our world it pretty much sucks. Leo is our brother-in-law…"

"And our Whitelighter…" Paige added, inching even closer.

"So listen, you go up there and tell him…"

"Phoebe" Andy cut in with a soft but assertive voice. "You have all been through so much over the years. Imagine the loss you have felt. Piper has felt all of that loss and now she feels as if she's losing her partner in life."

Andy's voice began to crack slightly from it's already deep nature.

"Andy …" Phoebe held a hand out over the inspector's.

Andy flashed her his handsome smile but his lips remained tight. "You said that you think Piper's causing this storm?"

"I do" Paige nodded. "But where could she be?"

"Somewhere where she can see everything that she's doing". Chris broke his silence.

Golden Gate Bridge

Piper stood on top of the hill overlooking Golden Gate bridge, admiring the storm. She could feel Prue's presence in the Manor, she knew she could. It was a familiar sense of comfort. Even now, she could smell Prue's perfume. It was as if it was still lingering around her.

"Piper …" A soft but muffled voice rang from behind her. The pounding of the rain muffled the voice.

Piper whipped her head around to see who said her name, her heart pounding. Phoebe and Paige stood behind her with their rain jackets on.

"You need to come home." Paige began. "We need you".

"Wyatt needs you" Phoebe added.

"He needs his father" Piper growled back at them. Water dripped from her rain soaked hair and joined the puddle at her feet.

"We will figure this out, sweetie." Phoebe held her hand out to her sister, urging her to take it.

"We've handled worse before" Paige soothed, advancing closer. " We've all lost parents, grandparents … and Prue".

"Do you really know what that's like though? You never really lost her" Piper seethed. Paige's smile fell and she took a step back.

Piper watched the pain hit her sister's face and it instantly brought her back to reality. "I'm sorry. I just mean …"

"It's okay, I get it." Paige's face still paled from her sister's words. Piper held a hand out and gently caressed her younger sister's face. She had always vowed not to get in fights like Prue and Phoebe had, but sometimes the gap between them got in the way of that.

A stray tear rolled down Piper's cheek before she disappeared into the wind.

Moments later, Piper appeared in the clouds. Elders surrounded her, walking around discussing the matters that had occurred throughout the day.

"Where's Leo?" Her loud voice cut through the soft sounds of Elder's conversations.

"Piper …" Leo appeared from the left and lifted the golden hood off of his head. "Piper, you can't be here".

"How can you do this?" The anger in her voice ripped through Leo's heart. He tightened his lips and ushered her towards a more private area.

"You asked me to marry you …. and I did." Her voice began to crack. "You wanted a family and I gave you a son. And now you want me to watch you just walk away?"

"It's not that simple." Tears began to form in Leo's green eyes.

"Then make it simple. Because I'm trying really hard to understand. What was the point in me getting over Prue's death and beginning my own family, only to have it taken away from me too?

"Piper … " Leo held up a loving hand to caress her arm but she pulled back from his embrace. "This, Prue's death … None of it was my choice. If I could do all of it differently, I would."

"Make your own choice now. Let's go home." She held out her hand for him to take, but it was his turn to pull away.

"The Elders were wrong about us. They didn't think our love could survive but it did. Our love blessed us in ways they couldn't even imagine. It gave you the strength that you needed to take over from Prue, it produced a baby with a greater future than any of us, and it made me…"

"An Elder". Piper finished for him. She could no longer hold off the sea of tears streaming down her face. "I can't just give up. I don't know how."

"You've been fighting with grief for the past two years and I understand. You can't fight this… Not this."

The grey mist surrounded Piper and the goddess powers left her body. "How am I going to do this alone? Wyatt needs his father."

Leo's posture remained tight. "He has you … and your sisters".

More tears began to flow down as Piper thought of the moments Wyatt would be missing with Prue and now Leo.

"But what if that isn't enough?" Piper wanted nothing but the best for her son. She didn't want him to have a life filled with an absent father and lost loved ones like hers.

Leo reached into his pocket and pulled some memory dust into his palm.

"We will make sure it's enough, sweetie". Came a soft voice from behind Piper. She knew that voice. It had been two years, but it still registered instantly. Piper's heart fluttered and felt as if it had stopped entirely. She was afraid to turn around.

She looked up to see Leo's face. His eyes were wide. Piper felt a soft hand land on her shoulder. She could feel her presence and this time it was a physical presence.

Piper turned and instantly fell in to her sister's arms. Prue held Piper tightly, letting one hand hold behind Piper's head as it fell to her shoulder.

"I never thought …"

"Shhhh, sweetie. Just breathe". Prue soothed her younger sister. Leo pulled his hand out of his pocket and Prue instantly gave him a threatening look, shaking her head.

"Let me take you home". She whispered. Piper nodded, sobbing in to her sister's shoulder.

"I'm sorry Prue, but you can't be here". Leo lips tightened.

"Fine, dust me. But not her". Piper's head whipped up at Prue's words and she followed her sister's gaze to the powder in Leo's hand.

"I promise I won't dust her". Leo wiped the dust off of his hands on to the floor. "I was just trying to help".

Piper left her sister''s embrace and held her husband one last time. Leo let a kiss fall to the top of her head. "I will always be there for Wyatt".

Piper squeezed him tightly once more. Leo closed his eyes and a glow surrounded Piper's body causing Prue's brow to quirk up.

"Let's get you back to Wyatt". Prue extended her hand to her sister and Piper slowly took it, looking back at Leo one last time.

"She won't be able to see you once you're down there". Leo warned.

"I know". Prue's voice cracked as she looked back at the new Elder once more before the pair disappeared into sparkling white lights.

Attic

Andy was bent over looking through a box marked "Prue" when he finally found what he had been looking for. He pulled out a wooden jewelery box. In it were many amazing memories. It had the earrings Prue had worn their first date as adults, the bracelet she forgot at his house once, and finally, the object he was looking for.

He saw the silver glimmering in the corner and pulled out the necklace that he had given Prue when they were seventeen. He ran a finger along the thin silver chain until it met the heart in the centre. He held it in front of himself and smiled at the great memories.

"Piper's back!" Phoebe yelled from downstairs. Andy gently placed the necklace in his pocket before making his way down the stairs. Along the way he was overwhelmed by Prue's scent and presence. He stopped mid-step and allowed it to surround him.

He could feel her nearby. This was more than remembering a feeling.

She was here.

He heard the stairs above him creak and decided to follow the noises back up to the attic.

Piper's Room

"Oh, Piper!" Phoebe smiled, hugging her sister tightly. "It's so nice that you're home".

"And not wearing a toga!" Paige quipped, handing Wyatt to Piper.

"Hi baby boy!" Piper grinned from ear to ear, tickling Wyatt's sock covered toes.

Paige and Phoebe exchanged a glance over Piper's mood.

"Did you see Leo?" Phoebe asked.

"I did. He must have brought me back here afterwards." Piper continued to tickle Wyatt's toes while making funny faces for him. "To be honest, it's all a little fuzzy".

Phoebe's smiled faded and she looked over to Chris who was just entering the room.

Attic

Andy walked back into the attic hoping to see Prue. His face dropped when he finished looking around the room and she was nowhere to be seen.

He turned on his heel, defeated. He let a sigh out and was about to leave when he heard the sound of pages flipping.

He turned to see the pages of the Book of Shadows moving.

Andy quickly marched over to the book to see what page it was on. The spell "Travel to the Ghostly Plane" filled the page.
