What about Angels

Chapter XI

Tortilla de Huevos

Weddings were a lot more trouble to plan than Jason and Piper had originally thought.

This was because it kept getting more and more complicated as time went on. From the initial let's just elope and have a small reception later when we're not broke and take some cute pictures in the snow, Hera had intervened. The goddess had been an even bigger thorn in Jason's side than she usually was, insisting on a proper ceremony for her protégé and a daughter of Aphrodite. After that the seating plan had just kept getting bigger and bigger as the gods invited themselves (Jason had no idea how they could RSVP without an invitation, but Mercury and a gaggle of minor river gods had). The food got more and more complicated, and Piper could not under any circumstances wear sneakers under her gown and yes there had to be a gown et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

Hera had completely taken over everything, from venue to seating to music choice. It had only gotten worst once Aphrodite got involved in the melée. The goddess had pulled Jason from his classroom one day to tearfully announce that their first dance would be on a rooftop during a meteor shower and it was so romantic. (Okay, it kind of was. In that respect, having the goddess of love on their side was nice. The respect of "unlimited funds and no budget" also made the gods handy. Still, Jason couldn't wait to be able to sit at home and have supper one day without a goddess showing him a PowerPoint presentation about why their wedding colour pallette should include cranberry red and not crimson like the other one suggested).

For better or for worst, their wedding had become a group project. Cabin 10 had collectively designed and made Piper's gown. Annabeth pulled some strings with a friend to free up a specific venue and envoys from the legion would be guarding against monsters considering the amount of veterans who would be attending. Artemis gave Thalia leave for the ceremony and Dakota had promised Jason that he could bartend. Katie Gardner would take care of the flowers and Aphrodite herself had guaranteed good weather on 'her baby's big day'. Travis and Connor Stoll said that they'd personally make sure to booze up all the immortals to avoid any cursing-of-firstborns and skirmishes such as the legendary ones that had occurred on Percy and Annabeth's wedding. Mitchell said he'd take care of the speeches (which scared Jason). Reyna flew up from Puerto Rico to be a part of the bridal party and camped out in their spare room. She nearly shocked Jason to death when she asked if there was room for a plus one to come too, but she came.

Jason had heard about Sebastián before, and they'd met on Skype and Iris-Message a few times, but he had no idea how serious he and Reyna were until the man showed up at his wedding. He'd known that he and Reyna had been together for about five months, but she hadn't told him that they lived together now- or that they'd adopted a dog. Yet here was Seb, also camping out in Jason and Piper's house and being the greatest house guests anyone could ask for. Seriously: one morning Jason woke up to the smell of strong coffee and something heavenly that was introduced to him as tortilla de huevos.

Jason thanked Seb about a thousand times while Seb thanked Jason again for the hospitality before asking if he and Piper were done preparing for work (which they were) so he could go take a shower, to which Jason said of course and Seb thanked him again. Reyna sat at the kitchen table in her jogging clothes and sipped her coffee, overseeing the exchange with an amused look. When Seb kissed her hair on his way upstairs she didn't look up, like it had become a habit. But she smiled. Also a new habit.

"Damn, this is good," Jason asked taking a bite of breakfast. "Does he always do this?"

"Cook?" Reyna asked. "No. I do Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays."

"Can you make these too?" Jason asked waving the bit of egg at the end of his fork. "Seriously, someone has to show me how."

Reyna grinned and turned back to the copy of The New Rome Gazette that was delivered daily.

"It's egg with tomatoes, cilantro, onions, peppers, garlic, oregano and cheese," Reyna said.

"Seriously," Jason said. "Seb's great."

"I know, I've tasted his cooking before," Reyna said. "You should try his curry."

"No, not just for that," Jason said. "I mean in general. He's the nicest guy. Did you know that he told Piper that he listened to English movies on the flight here to get used to the New York accent so he could meet all your friends at the wedding? When Lacy came over last night he listened to her talk about the table centerpieces for two hours and I'm pretty sure he dusted our living room the other day."

"He gets bored easily. At home there are always a hundred things to do," Reyna said. But she smiled. "He's sweet, very sweet, and thoughtful. He couldn't hurt a fly if he tried. He's harmless."

"I think you need someone like that."

"Harmless?" Reyna asked raising an eyebrow.

"Not necessarily, though maybe after all the years of violence and war it helps. I just meant that you deserve someone amazing, and for you Seb is." Jason said. "He's funny, he's sweet, he's grateful, he works hard, he's respectful, he tells good stories, he treats you like he's lucky to have you… I like him."

"Thank you Jason," Reyna said sarcastically. "That makes me feel much better about the premise of my relationship."

"That's not why I'm saying that," Jason said. "Since when do you need my blessing for anything? I'm just saying that I think you two fit each other like gloves and I'm happy for you."

Reyna immediately jumped to the sarcasm, but that didn't take away the little smile on her face when Jason put it that way.

"Thank you," Reyna said. "I too will give you my blessing for your current relationship, in that case. Piper's okay, I guess."

Jason laughed and elbowed her. Reyna elbowed him back.

Still, Reyna was tapping the back of her palm to the table, as if she was blowing kisses from afar.

In their secret language, that meant thank you.
