I know all of you wanted to see the final battle against Validar, but I'm getting bored and tired writing this and most of it is stuff you know from the games anyway, so I'm skipping ahead to the defeat of Grima. Honestly, this was a coin flip and I'm somewhat relieved I'm ending it like this. The funny thing is that with a few other stories, I got tired and out of ideas at around almost the same chapters (two stories ended with seven chapters and another two, including this one, at twenty-two). Hopefully, I'll be more inspired for a story when Fates comes out (which I hope is January) and can offer a more substantial and interesting story. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the final chapter of Saku Sakura!
After weakening Grima with the power of the Exalted Falchion, Chrom was about to stab at the Grima's avatar, represented by another Robin from another time in which he accepted his fate as the fell dragon's vessel.
"Chrom!"
Chrom stopped his swing and turned around to see Robin holding out his hand. He knew what Robin wanted to do; slay Grima himself and prevent him from ever being reawakened, but at a great cost.
"It's the best for my daughters and their children…" Robin said.
"What… what are you doing?!" Grima questioned.
Robin held his hand up. "For once, I'm glad you and I are the same… Now I can give my life to protect those I care about…"
"You would… not dare!"
"I would and I will. The evils you would bring unto this world are unthinkable… In some way, I-No, WE share the blame. It's only right we meet our end together!"
"NOOOOOOOOOO!" Grima screamed.
A dark orb of magic formed in Robin's held up hand and shot it at Grima. There was a blinding white light and the giant head of the fell dragon thrashed about in pain as he started dying. The avatar vanished into a purple mist and eventually Robin began to vanish in the same way.
"Robin! No!" Chrom shouted.
Robin turned to Chrom and smiled. "Chrom, thank you… for everything… Tell the others… my thoughts are with them… May we meet again, in a better life..."
Just then, Say'ri, Severa, Rei'qu and Morgan ran up to him.
"Robin!"
"Daddy!"
"… Dad?" Morgan started tearing up.
"I know none of you want this, but at least know you and your children will be safe. Say'ri, Naga said that if our bonds are strong enough, I might come back. If I do, I promise I will come to Chon'sin…" Robin's fading body walked up to Say'ri and held onto her hand. "Say'ri… I love you."
"I… I love you too, Robin." Say'ri started sobbing. "Huh?" She opened her hands to see that there was now a ring placed in it. "Robin, what is-"
Robin got down on one knee and looked straight up at Say'ri's face. "Say'ri, when I return, it would mean everything if you would marry me."
Say'ri was now choking on the well of emotions she was feeling right now. "Robin… I accept! You and I are to be wed upon your return!"
Robin stood up and walked over to Severa. "Severa, live the life you want. Regardless of your choices, I will always love you."
"D-daddy!" Severa was crying and hugged her father. "You better come back, you jerk! Or I'll never forgive you!"
Robin then walked over to Rei'qu once Severa had loosened her grip on him.
"Rei'qu, keep talking to people to overcome your social awkwardness." Robin.
"Thank you, Father…" Rei'qu tried her best to keep her tears at bay, though it appeared some were already falling down her cheeks.
Finally, Robin went to Morgan, knelt down and petted her head.
"Morgan… Keep on studying to achieve your dream. Don't worry about your old memories; your new ones are going to keep you happy."
"I don't want you to leave, Dad!" Morgan cried. "Sniff… But I will! I WILL become a great tactician like you someday!"
"That's my girl…"
Robin stood up and looked at the five most important people in his life; his best friend, his three daughters and the woman he loved.
"May we meet again… In a better life…"
Before Robin disappeared completely, a single teardrop left his face.
One year had passed…
Say'ri had returned to Chon'sin with Rei'qu. Severa and Morgan stayed behind in Ylisse to live out the lives of their parents. The former tried to learn how to ride a Pegasus from Sumia and Cynthia, though it was a difficult road and the latter took Robin's position as the tactician of Ylisse should another war break out again. Say'ri had to rebuild Chon'sin with the help of the Resistance and Rei'qu chose to join what would eventually become the Chon'sin royal guard. Presently, the royal palace was still a bit of a mess, but it was no longer in shambles from Walhart's assault. In the courtyard, which was now fully repaired and planted with beautiful grass and still young bushes and cherry trees, Say'ri walked over to a trio of obelisks in memory of her mother, father and brother and paid her respects to them.
"Empress Say'ri…" The captain of the royal guard walked up to her. "Pardon may interruptions, but someone is here to see you."
After a few moments of silence, Say'ri stood up and turned to the captain.
"Aye, who is it?" Say'ri asked.
"Lord Chrom of Ylisse."
"Hm, I wonder why he would come all this way…"
"He said he and Lady Sumia would wait for you at the palace entrance."
"I shall see to him immediately."
Say'ri made her way to front entrance of the building to see Chrom and Sumia.
"Say'ri, it's good to see you again." Chrom said. "Your country's looking well so far."
"Heh, Lord Chrom, I am 'Empress Say'ri' now." Say'ri chuckled. "Fie! No need for formalities among friends."
Chrom and Say'ri chuckled as they shook hands.
"Chrom, should we tell her?" Sumia asked. She looked like she was barely able to contain her excitement.
"Hm?" Say'ri was confused.
"Say'ri, there's no need to be so worried." Chrom assured her. "There's no war starting, but it is important."
"Mother, what is going on?" Rei'qu walked up to them.
"Good, Rei'qu's here, too." Chrom said. "She should know this, too."
"Chrom! I can't hold him back any longer!" A girl's voice shouted from the other side of the door behind Chrom and Sumia.
"Is that… Morgan?" Say'ri asked.
The door opened up and the Valmese women couldn't believe what they were seeing. Say'ri's eyes were welling up with tears.
"I promised to come back, didn't I?"
From the doors came in the man Say'ri loved more than anyone else, Robin. She couldn't retain her composure any longer and practically leapt to Robin and embraced him in a warm hug.
"Robin!" She sobbed. "You have returned!"
Robin embraced her back and calmly spoke to her. "I'm glad to return…"
Their unbelievably happy moment was interrupted by the door opening again.
"Hey! When's the wedding going to start?" Lissa asked as she poked her head through the door. "All of the Shepherds came here just to see it! Even the future kids!"
Say'ri was a bit surprised at the news. Everyone had come all this way just to see her and Robin reunited.
Robin turned to Lissa. "Heh, it'll be a while, Lissa. It IS a royal wedding and things need to be planned first. Right, Say'ri?"
"Uh-A-aye!" Say'ri nodded.
Robin turned back to his beautiful fiancé. "I love you, Say'ri."
"I love you, too, Robin."
The two shared a passionate kiss for several minutes.
"Get a room, you two!" Lissa said.
A/N: That's it! I feel like I put a lot of emotion in the stuff I added, especially the end. Honestly, it isn't far off from what I initially planned and I'm happy it turned out this way. It's been two years since I started this story and now it can officially end in a way that doesn't feel rushed. I really hope you enjoyed this and keep an eye out for my name in some other FE stories, as I might have one in mind for Fates once I'm able to play it. In other words, stay tuned.
