Author's Note: Hi! :) Thank you for reading, reviewing, looking, etc. It means a lot. Also, sorry to those of you who don't like if the story is strays from the game plot. It'll get back on track soon, I promise. (I may skip a part or two, sorry. It won't be anything super important). I'm terribly sorry for not updating, I was so depressed about past stuff that I couldn't write, and I needed some time to work through it. I'll try to get to updating more frequently again though, no promises. March is a difficult month. :)
Finally, thanks to all of you, we have breached 1,000 views! I never imaged 100 people looking at this, let alone 1,000! Thank you all so, so, so, so much! Yahoo!
Disclaimer: Oh wow. If you don't know by now that I don't own Pokémon, you never will. Seriously.
Brief summary of previous chapter: Kate thinks about how much her life has changed for the better since meeting Keith and Rythmi. She thinks about how with meeting them, she learned to care, love, and trust. Keith asks Kate more about her past, and she tells him about her family's death and her brother's departure to Unova. Kate ponders a letter that was left by Team Dim Sum, telling her it was all her fault that her family was dead, and wonders if maybe she is only a being that causes others pain. She then decides that if that's so, that she will devote her entire life to her true purpose, saving Almia. Also, I warned everyone last chapter that I have a bad habit of character death when I write, so that will likely not be the last chapter with it. It seems like every story I write, somebody dies. I try not to go too in-depth on descriptions though, I feel like that takes away from the story unless it's in the horror genre. I will still summarize most chapters with it though, and put a warning in the front of them. Finally, I said that instead of Team Dim Sun, I would make it Team Dim Sum. I was skipping dinner to write last chapter, if you couldn't tell.
Chapter 15: Stop, Smell the Roses, Gigaremote?
(Kate's P.O.V., present)
Keith and I walked along the beach in silence. I think we both had a lot to take in. I had to accept that life was changing too rapidly for my liking. Sometimes, I wish that time could stop, even just for a minute, so I could take in the beauty of the surrounding area.
"Hey Kate," Keith said suddenly.
"What is it?" I signed.
"I… I was wondering if you, if you maybe want to… uh…" Just as Keith was about to continue, a panicking Luana came rushing over.
"Come quick," she said, "there's someone you two have to meet.
(Keith's P.O.V., present)
Oh wow. I was just about to ask Kate out when Luana interrupted. Luana sure has the worst timing in the world, I have no doubt about that.
Me, Kate and Luana continued onwards towards the ranger base. On our way there, Kate looked at me and signed, "Was there something you wanted to say?" I just shook my head no. I couldn't tell Kate in front of Luana, mostly out of my fear of being rejected. I honestly don't know what I would do if Kate rejected me, because then I most likely would've ruined my friendship and all that. That's why I've been too shy to say anything. Besides, I still didn't know whether she was a pokémon or a human. Or both. Or neither. Or some combination of the two. Or, or, or… argh!
Before I got a chance to finish pondering all the possibilities, the three of us had arrived in the base. Luana went inside, gesturing for us to follow her. We obeyed, and I was shocked at who we saw…
(Kate's P.O.V., after nearly fainting at the person she saw.)
"Professor, Professor Hastings," Keith stammered.
I just stared in awe. I couldn't believe the professor was here!
"He must be looking at the gigaremo," I signed to Keith.
"What's a gigaremo?" Asked Keith.
Just a Keith asked that, the professor turned around hastily.
"Oh! You two must be the new rangers I've been hearing so much about! Oh, but there's no time for that now." He rushed back over to the gigaremo
"You," he said, gesturing towards me, "Come here. And quickly!"
Keith and I rushed over.
"Now you," he said to me again, "Tell me all you know about the gigaremote or whatever you call it! And you, please translate for her."
Keith nodded and I began to sign,
"You see, I found this gigaremo whilst investigating some disturbances in the Beach Cave. For some reason, the pokémon there were acting strange. I believe it may have been controlling them." I stopped and looked at him. I was curious about his face, it seemed rather strained.
"You see, it makes a little sense," the professor began, "A while ago in Fiore, these people called the Go-Rock squad tried to rise to power. They failed, but it was a close call. Anyways, I'll get to the point. The Go-Rock Squad was controlling pokémon as well. Luana told me about the strange person you saw. It's possible that they belonged to a new criminal organization."
"Hang on a minute, "Keith said, "There's something I don't get."
"Well don't leave us hanging!" The professor gave a stern look to Keith.
"O-okay sir, sorry. If there's a new criminal organization, then why haven't I heard anything in Fiore? I mean, there's been some weird stuff, here and there, but I should think if the Union had any suspicions, they would share them with the base leaders at least." Keith hung his head slightly, and I wondered why.
"Hmm? We did tell the base leaders. However, we told them to keep it in confidence until it was time and we were certain. We don't want to alert the criminals we're onto them, or worry people unnecessarily." Professor Hastings paused to clear his throat a second before finishing. "And though I suspect they are here, I also expect you lot to both inform me of any changes, and to keep this among yourselves. Now I must be going. Barlow, please come with me to the Union. Kate, keep up the good work here. Keith, I expect your base leader to be wanting you back soon. All of you should make haste on your jobs. That will be all."
We all nodded as Professor Hasting's left. Keith them came over and gave me a quick hug.
"I… I guess this is goodbye for a while." He looked down at his feet. I looked down at mine too. For a long while, the two of us stood in silence. Finally Keith looked up at me.
"Katie, I… I'll really miss you. So… I hope I can see you again soon." He smiled, and walked away before I could reply. I just watched him leave. There was a part of me that wanted to follow him, but something in my heart told me not to.
After a short while, I walked outside and into the forest. It had already gotten quite dark, and I could see the moon. I lay down in the grass, and watched quietly as the gentle aura of the forest surrounded me. Looking up at the moon, I felt so peaceful. Peaceful and serene. Just lying here in the grass. All alone, in the serenity of the forest.
I missed Keith, but right now, I felt so much more. I felt all the sadness and betrayal in my life. I remembered all the things I said wrong, or didn't say that I should've. So many mistakes, wounds that not even time can save me from, pain and heartache. Every once and a while, I get this way. Where I hurt, and hurt, and want to cry. Like my heart is about to fall right out of my chest.
And so I let myself cry. After I finished and wiped away my tears, I looked up at the moon. It was like she was smiling down at me, promising me it would be okay. So I smiled back. Maybe I can't change the past, but I will change the future…
Yay! Again, I'm so, so sorry for not updating. Thank you for your patience, and happy Pi Day! You know, some people say math jokes are irrational, but they're my domain. I have a wide range of them, though they're not always rational. Sorry for going off on a tangent!
All joking aside, happy Pi Day, happy almost spring, just plain happy life everyone! Thank you for reading this, and as always, please review :)
