Day After the Fairies

When Tosh walked into the Hub the next day she was surprised to find no Ianto, or Megan, or Jack. She booted up her computer, sneaking glances up to Jack's office, she felt guilty about how she treated him the day before. Now that she had slept on it she knew she'd been unkind, she only hoped he'd forgive her.

Jack was sat at his desk when she went into his office "Jack I…"

"Shhh" Jack interrupted her pointing to the sofa, Tosh smiled at the sight of Megan and Ianto asleep with Jacks coat over them; she looked back to Jack and saw a wistful smile on his face. How could she have ever thought that he didn't care?

"How come their here?" she whispered, pulling Jack back to reality.

"They came back last night to check on me and they both fell asleep, I didn't see any point in waking them up and sending them home" Jack explained "anyway Tosh what can I do for you?"

"Oh… um I wondered if the paper work for yesterday has been filed yet?" Jack's face fell; of course someone was going to mention it.

"No, the reports are still here" he pointed to a small pile in the middle of his desk "I was going to do this morning"

Tosh stepped forward and flicked through the pile until she found hers and pulled it out "I have a couple of alterations to make" she explained to Jacks confused face. A small smile graced his lips, not the normal Captain Jack grin but a real smile that made Tosh's heart swell.

She walked over to Jack and slipped her arms around his waist and gave him a quick squeeze "I'm sorry Jack" she said before leaving his office.

"I told you they didn't hate you Jack" came a quiet voice behind him; Jack looked round to see Ianto smiling at him

"And you were right."

"You sound surprised" Jack smiled and shook his head, watching as Ianto tried to find a way of moving Megan without waking her. "Sir could you… just hold her head" Jack did and Ianto slipped out then he lowered her head back down.

Jack watched appreciably as Ianto stretched his stiff muscles and rubbed his neck "Ugh I am too tall to sleep in chairs"

Jack suddenly felt very guilty, after all it was him Ianto had come to see. He made a decision and throwing caution to the wind, stepped forward and put his arms around Ianto's shoulders, the young man stiffened instantly but Jack didn't move and soon he felt Ianto relax and put hesitant arms around his waist and rest his head on Jacks shoulder.

"Thank you Ianto" he said letting go and putting a hand on the side of his face, looking into the young man's eyes, god it would be so easy to get lost in those two deep blue pools. He saw Ianto's eyes flicker down to his lips and noticed that his breathing had quickened, could he? could it be possible? Jack leaned forward slowly so as not to startle the younger man they were inches apart and… a mumble from behind Ianto broke the spell between the two men causing Ianto to take a quick step back

"I… I'm sorry sir… I…" stuttered Ianto backing towards the door

"Don't worry Ianto"

"I… I should go make the coffee for Tosh and the others will be in soon" he turned and practically fled from the office.

Jack grinned to himself, despite Ianto's hasty exit he had been going to kiss him, oh yes things were definitely looking up.

By the time Gwen and Owen came in Ianto had changed and made another pot of coffee. Megan came out of Jacks office, yawning and rubbing her neck, drawing looks from the two team members, she wondered over to the kitchen where Ianto was cleaning the mugs from the night before, he didn't trust Jacks cleaning skills.

The day passed uneventfully, apart from Ianto cornering Owen and Gwen about their reports from the day before, after re-reading Tosh's Ianto realised that some of the details didn't match and Owen and Gwen had written too much about how the case made them feel which wasn't needed. He also threatened to give them decaf for the rest of the month if they didn't apologise to Jack, which they did. Eventually.

Jack was really glad to have Megan in that day as tensions were still running high and her relaxed attitude created a calm atmosphere for everyone to work in. Just to be on the safe side Jack stayed in his office for most of the day, he noticed however that Ianto wouldn't stay in the room alone with him for very long. Whereas normally when Ianto brought him his coffee he would often stay and chat today he simply put his coffee down and left. Jack knew he should probably talk to Ianto about what happened and meant to catch him before he left. But for once Ianto actually left on time with the others. Damn.

Just a small chapter showing peoples feelings after Small Worlds. I'm working on the next chapter so hopefully it shouldn't be too much longer.
