I feel so bad that I've abandoned this fic for about 2-3 years and only now am I starting to write again. It has been tough but I feel like I could get back into the rhythm of writing once again! ^^
Oh and I edited the first chapter once again, the changes aren't that major but it doesn't hurt to look back on it again! ^^
So here's a little background information on Tora, I personally am not blind so this is all part of my imagination~
Disclaimer: I do not own any KnB characters or storylines, just my OCs!
Chapter 2
I am blind but I am not born blind. Three years ago, I was involved in a car accident and lost my sight. My brother, Taiga, heard the news and flew from L.A. to New York. My parents also dropped everything and came to my side once they heard the news. I was in a coma for a few months however, in my unconscious state I could hear the voices of my parents grieving and Taiga cursing whoever did this to me. When I woke, I went into shock by the loss of my sight and I fell into depression. I felt completely helpless and weak. My parents became overly protective of me and I spent my days in the mansion rotting away. I was stuck in my depressive state until Taiga had enough of it and forced me to go out with him.
"Oi, Tora!" Taiga hollered from the other side of the door as he banged on it. "Let's go out."
I ignored him as I silently lay lifeless on my bed. 'Why bother with me anymore anyway? I should've died in that accident.' I thought to myself.
"Tora!" Taiga called once more as he broke down the door with sheer force. He marched on to the the windows to open the curtains and let some light into my dark and gloomy room. As light shone in, the scattered clothing and furniture became visible. Taiga could only sigh in discontent as he saw me lifelessly on my bed with no clothes on.
"Get dressed, we're leaving in five minutes," he instructed. I ignored him once more and continued to lay unmoving.
"Tch, get up already!" Taiga yelled once more as he threw some clothes scattered on the floor to me. I felt the slight weight on my body but I just lay there once more.
Taiga sighed once more. "If you want me to leave you alone just come with me this one time and I'll leave you alone forever," he said solemnly.
I let out a sigh of my own and finally sat up. I felt around for my clothes to get dressed. I noticed the lack of undergarments in the pile Taiga threw at me.
"Taiga," I spoke up in a soft voice. "Can you grab some undergarments from the dresser?"
"Tch, just get dressed quickly," he instructed once more as he threw the undergarments towards me.
I got dressed as swiftly as a blind person could and stood up. I was wearing what I could discern as a hoodie and shorts.
"You ready?" Taiga asked. I merely nodded and held out my hand. Taiga grabbed it and led me out of the mansion. I didn't know where we were going until I heard the sounds of shoes squeaking and a ball bouncing fiercely against the ground. I took a deep breath and the familiar smell of the streets made me reminisce the times I used to come here and play basketball. I stopped walking and let my hand slip out of Taiga's. At first nothing happened and I just stood there waiting for Taiga to drag me into doing something I dread doing now that I've lost my sight.
"Come on, just play with me this one time and I won't bug you anymore." I bit my lip as my legs refused to move. "Alex is here too, it'd be rude for you to refuse to see her after she had to fly from L.A. to New York."
I took a deep breath and took a step forward. "Let's just get this over with," I said under my breath.
Taiga took my hand and led me to the courts. The familiar sounds got louder and sounds of chatter and laughter surrounded me.
"Oi Taiga!" Alex called and ran over to us. "How've you been doing?"
"I'm fine, how's Himuro doing?"
"He's fine, just a bit lonely since you left." Alex answered. "So is this your sister Tora that you've been telling me about?"
"Yeah, please take good care of her."
"Nice to meet you, I'm Tora," I introduced myself and bowed my head.
"Yo, I heard you've been rotting in your room ever since you were released from the hospital," Alex said nonchalantly.
"Alex! That was insensitive of you!" Taiga complained.
"It's alright Taiga," I reassured my brother. "What she's saying is true so it doesn't bother me."
"B-but.." Taiga couldn't come up with anything to say and merely stuttered out broken words.
"Anyway, I'm Alex and I'm Taiga's basketball teacher back in L.A."
"What brought you all the way here then?" I asked out of curiosity.
"Well, Taiga couldn't stop complaining over how he wants to get you back on your feet and when he told me that you used to play basketball I flew all the way here to help him." Alex explained.
"Well you're just wasting your time, there's no way I can play basketball ever again." I said softly.
"You won't know 'till you try right?" Alex asked rhetorically as she pulled my hand to drag me into the courts.
"W-what are you doing?" I asked in a panicked tone.
"What do you mean what am I doing? Isn't it obvious that I'm going to make you play basketball again?" Alex stated as if playing basketball in my current state would be a walk in a park.
"I told you it's impossible! How am I supposed to shoot if I can't even see anything!" I exclaimed.
"Calm down and take a deep breath," Alex suggested.
"How am I supposed to-"
"Just trust me and do as I say," Alex cut me off.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "Now I want you to picture yourself right under the ring of one end of the basketball court. Remember the number of steps you took as you ran across the court with a ball in hand. Remember all those senses you felt when you played basketball with your friends."
Alex's voice felt soothing as I did as I was instructed. Crazy enough, the images in my mind were so vivid that I suddenly felt like I could see the whole court in real life. "Now, I want you to act as if I'm your opponent and take a point from me by scoring the ring above your head." Alex stated as she gave me a basketball.
"W-what? I can't just-"
"Remember, just picture it in your mind, picture me right in front of you ready to steal your ball."
I took another deep breath and imagined the situation in my head. A vivid image appeared and so I took position and started dribbling the ball. The sensation of bouncing the ball had me excited and I could feel my heart rate rising. I suddenly felt the thrill I used to feel when playing basketball. My senses were on its peak and I could hear everything around me. Alex's breathing and her little movements as she watched me dribble. I felt the wind as Alex tried to steal the ball from me and I instinctively dribbled the ball to my back to switch it to my left hand.
'I can do this!' I encouraged myself. Then I started dribbling left and right trying to get past Alex. Alex truly is an excellent player and I'm glad Taiga has an excellent teacher. Hearing Alex's calm breathing I could tell that she wasn't playing seriously and just wanted me to try to do as she told me to. So I spun and caught the dribbling ball with my right hand and jumped to dunk the ball right into the ring. The whole scene felt like it was in slow motion and the sensation of jamming the ball into the ring had me going crazy. I never thought I could feel this way ever again. I slightly stumbled as I landed on the ground but Taiga was there to catch me before I fell.
"T-taiga, did you see that?" I asked as my mind was still in a flurry of confusions and happiness.
"I-I did it, I actually did it," I said out loud trying to convince myself it wasn't a dream.
"Told you I'm going to make you play basketball again!" Alex exclaimed. The tone of her voice had me picturing her grinning as she said this.
My hands began to tremble and I clasped them together to stop it but didn't. Taiga noticed this and looked at me with worry.
"Tora, what's wrong?" He asked. I couldn't even answer as tears started flowing down my face.
"H-hey, what's wrong?" Taiga asked once more as he spun me around to meet his gaze. I cried as I circled my hands around Taiga's neck seeking comfort. Taiga was taken aback for a second before circling one arm around me and the other patting me on the head.
"It's alright, just let it all out," he said and I cried all the louder. The tears that were flowing down my face weren't tears of sadness, but tears of joy. I was just so overwhelmed at that moment that I couldn't say anything and my body just reacted to my bottled up feelings. That day was the day I started playing basketball again.
This came out longer than I expected XD I was expecting something short and sweet but I guess I had more to write than I thought~
Please review, it makes people smile! ^^
